We’ve been in the restaurant a couple of times now. We especially liked the helpful young man who takes you to your seat. The food has been consistently good and would definitely recommend. The jacket potato with mushroom, bacon and Stilton is a winner with me!

We loved the venue and the shops and the farm shop . Had fish cakes which were lovely but tiny and not good value for money . Waitress and other staff were rude and unhelpful and ruined our experience . Could be a fantastic place for lunch if they had a decent workforce .

Brought my 86yr old mother for lunch and requested a window seat as we have done many times over the years. The young woman who seated us removed a chair to make way for my mother's wheelchair and as I was manoeuvring the chair into the space she immediately said "we need to keep the area clear". I let her know that I was irritated by this remark as we had literally just arrived and I had almost 'parked' the wheelchair - the alternative being to leave my mother half stuck out in the aisle. We patiently waited for our order to be taken due to the sign stating they were very short-staffed. After 25 minutes (by which time my mother was becoming dehydrated) we discovered that we had been 'left off the list'. When I spoke to the Manager he said that 'mistakes happen' and sometimes staff forget to put customers on the list to be served. I said I suspected the reason was in fact due to our earlier encounter with the young woman and he said "yes, it was". He also told us that wheelchairs are not supposed to be placed in the window area - not really sure what to do with that insight, but not an issue for customers or justification for the treatment we received.

Odd table service in this cafe - have to wait for a waitress to walk you to a table, (why when there are loads free ?) she then goes away, brings you menus, goes away, back to take your order and payment goes away, brings your food, goes away.... but then you have to get up and get your own cutlery !!! Very odd. Waitresses must be so tired 😩 Self service would be much more efficient and much quicker. You could then see what you are ordering before you pay for it !!! And all just for cheap quality food, deep fried fish cakes filled with wet slush, salad leaves had seen better days, some were brown. Not much else on menu, certainly not for vegetarian unless you want a jacket potato. Not worth bothering with.

We've always enjoyed our meals here but not this time. We expected a wait because it was Bank Holiday, but this was a long queue. It was frustrating to see so many tables available but clearly too few servers. To top that we could see food arriving at tables who arrived after us. When the food arrived it was fine although no teabag in the teapot. It was better when you could choose between a snack and waiter service for a larger meal.

Long wait to be seated in a half empty room. Lots of staff wandering around in pairs doing nothing. Took ages for staff to come and take our order and surprise surprise ages for the food to arrive. Far too pricey for such a terrible place to eat. Avoid at all costs, I will never be back.

On visiting the restaurant with our grandchildren we ordered 4 meals two being american pancakes with fruit , which we had previously had! This day they came drowned with a mixed sloppy compot, which looked absolutely disgusting. My grandchild being only 8 took one look at it and cried, we asked the server if there was anything she could do,like possibly just bring a pancake on a clean plate with nothing on, she returned from the kitchen and said no. So we took him up to the cake stand to choose something for his breakfast, I stood for possibly 10 minutes every one totally ignoring me. There was a man standing behind the counter I asked if I could speak to the manager. He said I am the manager!! Yeah !!!On sharing my experience I was told he was very busy and also the kitchen. He said I could order 3 more with maple syrup but would cost me another £8 50p. By this time two breakfast on our table had been eaten. So we just got up and walked out.Certainly will not be visiting again.

I've been a loyal visitor to Chepstow Garden Centre for years, particularly enjoying the moments of respite at The Garden Restaurant. Initially, when the restaurant unveiled its revamp, it was a revelation – reasonable prices, generous portions, and delectable quality that made every visit a pleasure. However, months down the line, I'm disheartened to report a stark decline in every aspect that initially won me over. The cost of dining here has steadily climbed, a change I could perhaps stomach if the quality and portions had remained consistent. Regrettably, this is far from the case. The quality of the food has taken a nosedive into the realm of the barely palatable, a sentiment echoed by both family and friends who've accompanied me on these visits. Most of the staff at The Garden Restaurant continue to be the lovely and welcoming faces we've come to know, making it all the more disappointing to encounter service that detracted so significantly from our experience. On our last visit, we were served by an older waitress who, alarmingly, was coughing openly as she greeted us and continued to do so while serving our table, without so much as an attempt to cover her mouth. In these health-conscious times, such oversight is not only concerning but unacceptable, contributing to our decision to avoid this establishment in the future. It genuinely saddens me to write this review, as The Garden Restaurant once held a special place in our hearts as a beacon of quality and comfort. I can only hope this feedback serves as a constructive call to action, urging a return to the high standards that once defined your establishment. Until then, we regrettably must take our leave and look elsewhere for our garden centre delights.

Been here plenty of times before and the food has always been great value even though the staff are typically young and very slow. This time was awful. Went for Sunday lunch (have been previously). There were plenty of staff around but they were all wandering aimlessly. Chit chatting and clearing a table here and there. We arrived at 2:15pm. A normal sized queue (you’re not allowed to book if you’re less than 5 people as apparently ‘there’s no need’) - people were being seated at a snails pace. Lots of empty tables. Lots of people leaving after finishing their meals but nobody being seated. A huge queue developed behind us. After waiting for 30 minutes in the queue to be seated, a server decided to come and shout that they had ‘ran out of Sunday lunches’. What a load of rubbish. How can you run out of Sunday lunch? It was obvious that the staff did not want to take any more Sunday lunch orders even though you are supposed to be able to order up until 3pm - by now, it was 2:45pm. No apologies. Total waste of our time. If you are looking for a quick and efficient service, this is not the place. We Will not be returning.

Such a disappointment! We queued to be sealed. No real greeting - they merely asked how many there were to seat. Without any ado, the menus were slapped on to the table and the person disappeared. We were not asked if the table was ok for us, nor given any further instruction. We had no idea whether we had to choose from the menu and go to the service area to order or whether someone would come to take our order. 'Sonny Jim' eventually arrived with a tablet. He had very little idea of what was gluten free and kept disappearing to inform himself. The menu was quite limited as we only wanted a snack. After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with Sonny we ended up with a bowl of soup each and a slice of white bread straight out of the packet ; not a roll in sight, either gluten free or otherwise. The soup was tepid and tasteless We needed to ask and were expected to fetch our own cutlery and napkins despite being pensioners. There was a complete lack of atmosphere and nobody popped back to see if things were ok - just as well really. They might have received more than they bargained for! This was a second visit in the last few months to this place. We'll give it a miss in future . Not sure what they're trying to achieve here. Whatever it is, it's not working!!

Since our last visit the restaurant has been refurbished and has changed from queuing for your food and drink to table service. We visited around 2.45pm on a Sunday afternoon thinking we'd have a coffee and maybe a slice of cake each. We waited at the "please wait here to be seated" sign for nearly 5 minutes. One of the younger serving staff came twice to collect menus but ignored us on both occasions. I would have preferred it if she'd said "someone will be with you shortly " rather than blanking us and the growing queue behind us. We were eventually shown to our seats and given menus. With cake at around £3.45 a slice we decided to just have coffees. We tried to order via the app however couldn't get onto the centre's wifi. We waited another 15 minutes or so for someone to take our order however nobody came so we left. Having been shown to our seats by one (possibly senior) lady, I'm not sure how the waiting staff know who they have to serve and in what order and if you're going to offer table service at least employ enough staff to cover the number of tables. Having travelled over the Severn Bridge, in future we will turn right towards Chepstow and instead visit Hanley Farm Shop just past Tidenham. Queue to order (delicious) food and drinks and get service with a smile... instead of being ignored.

Had late lunch here today, service was terrible, both persons who attended to us lacked charm and were surly! In fact, the “waiter” who brought us extra hot water for the very strong tea, virtually threw the pot on the table without a word and walked off! No coleslaw came with the toasted sandwich which was included on the Menu. The service for the cooked food was very slow and we had finished our scones before the sandwich, minus the coleslaw, arrived! The onion rings ordered arrived ten minutes after the sandwich! The menu prices were extortionate and the experience will not be repeated! The Staff were in no way overworked and at one stage, eight of them were to be seen standing around and chatting to each other at the counter! Some Staff training needs to be undertake quickly, otherwise you will loose all your customers!

Had Sunday lunch yesterday and though the roast beef had a good flavour the veg were all well undercooked and hard and we paid £2.50 each extra for cauliflower cheese that was inedible, the cauli was raw, all we could do was pick at the top of the florets and try and slice them off and spoon up the cheese sauce. I know the trend is for veg to be cooked less but ours really were not acceptable. On the positive side the staff and service were very good and the new restaurant is so much better but sadly we will not return for Sunday lunch or recommend it to anyone

This Garden Centre is located just outside Chepstow and has much to offer. We dined on an excellent roast turkey dinner - good portion size with plenty of sprouts ! Surprised Christmas pudding was not on offer though ! However, the main focus of our visit was to see Father Christmas and that was brilliant - be warned you need to book in advance online to avoid disappointment ! The whole experience is really well structured and carefully thought out to keep children’s interest and attention. There is a letter writing room with post box and children can then choose a tree decoration, you then board “the train” to the North Pole and meet the reindeer as you go. In the next room you get to hear Rudolph’s story from Nutmeg, the reindeer and Nutmeg will chat to the children . Finally, you get to meet the man himself and that is lovely - plenty of space and our Father Christmas took time to talk and listen to the children and help them pose for photographs - there was no sensation of rush . He was gentle and humorous and tried to involve not only parents but grandparents too ! After a suitable amount of time you are then escorted by the elves to a present room - the shelves are laden with really interesting toys and games- not cheap plastic tat to be found in some other grottoes! Great experience and great value for money !

There's a aquatic shop attached which also sell rabbits, guineas, birds and reptiles and there is a nice little farm shop opposite to buy meat, bread, cheese ect. My daughter and I had a snack in the garden centres restaurant, just a bowl of chips and a cake to share, all the menu is reasonably priced and the chocolate cake was very yummy. The cafe was busy, the queue to be served was long, it was like eating in a OAP’s home (with no atmosphere) and once again it was overpriced. I had an early grey and it was so weak that it was undrinkable. A tea and cake cost over £5 and both were horrible. We find that most Garden Centres have most acceptable places to eat and this one at Chepstow is up with the very best. Superb breakfast choice and wonderful coffee and cakes throughout the day. Lunches also served.

Always come here and my mum visits most days but noticed lately the staff serving on the garden room need a lesson in customer service

I agree with previous review about customer attitude, might have been late afternoon, but no need to take it out on staff. Coffee was nice,

Second time we have had lunch here, jacket potato again excellent. Not the cheapest but you do get a good portion of well made fresh food for the money. Would recommended and the garden centre is one of the best about. The farm shop is super, however what was a very good aquatic shop and pet shop is now awful

Attached to the garden centre, this cafe is pleasantly appointed, with the area outdoors especially restful, with the sounds of running water and a number of attractive pools. The food and beverages are freshly prepared and tasty, though rather expensive - as is normal in garden centres. Worth a visit when shopping in the garden centre, or for meat and fish in the excellent farm shop across the car park.

Hi , we visit this place quite often but recently we chose to have lunch there . We chose from the set lunch menu a quiche ( home made ) and my wife had a scampi meal . The service was very good friendly and welcoming the food was fine . It was what you get in most of the garden centres we have visited . Its ok , nothing especially wrong but I beleive that it could be improved on . Also the prices not only here but in general tend not to be cheap . But there you are it is what it is . I wouldn't not eat here again or not suggest you try it . I would just like a bit more input to the food to raise it from ok to mmmm that was very good . Try it yourself , I dont think you will come away very disappointed . We will eat again here . The garden Centre is also worth a visit with a good selection of plants clothes etc . Also on site is a Farm shop and butcher although we haven't tried it yet

Came here for a quick bite of lunch. We both had bacon, cheese and onion marmalade toasties. These were delicious and not the normal processed bread, cheese etc. The bread was a nice fresh premium loaf. We had bottled water and were offered a glass with ice which was good. Only negative was that they were relatively slow in clearing tables and didn't wipe them. It was very busy being a Sunday lunchtime. Lovely setting. Would definitely go back.

Fabulous ploughman’s for lunch today. The place is spotless, most of the food seems to be locally sourced, and really friendly and helpful staff. Prices not too bad either. No complaints at all

Ended up waiting 45 minutes for our food before we realised it wasn’t coming. Turns out there was a “computer glitch” that meant the kitchen never got the order, which apparently happens every now and again. Would’ve been nice if the lad that took our order actually came to find out why no food had shown up instead of just plodding about miserably.

Stopped for a snack when visiting the garden centre. Had paninis. They were OK but poor value for money @ £5.50. Cakes etc looked very nice so tried a couple of tartlets. Very nice but definitely pricey.

as i go to the garden centre with my family we always stop for a quick drink or some grub in there. recently i notice how much i was paying for a tiny bowl of chips 3.00 is a bit to much for a few chips if i must say. the other problem i also have with the food is that they dont offer a range of crisps which is very annoy

Went to have lunch there today. After paying extortionate prices the food arrived cold and not cooked. Worst part is the lady serving was stroppy that I said something. Won't eat there again.

How can you charge £5.50 for a cheese and ham toasty with barely any cheese or ham in it? My partner paid £8 for a beef bap, which is majorly disappointing. Yeah, wouldn’t recommend the toasties or sandwiches.

Great staff and great food. Very good with my odd allergy.Would highly recommend it as it's the best Chinese in the area, I moved a little further away from abergavenny but still travel for this chinese takeaway as I have not found better! Thank you to the staff for their patients and professionalism, and the food is 👍

My friend booked a table for six a good six weeks in advance, only to find on turning up there was no record of our booking. It was only by luck that as the customer foot print was low that we were able to get a table. When we asked what went wrong reference our booking, no explanation was given. This would never have happened under the previous ownership.

The chips wasnt all that bad. But the fish was a throw away - far too oily. It was topped by a total lack of a smile or some resemblance of wanting to be there. I was served by a young lady who was dressed all in black which was well aligned to a Halloween theme of doom and gloom.
