The Garden Kitchen in Newport

First time there and really impressed. The staff were attentive but not pushy. There was a large variety of vegetarian breakfast options that I was very impressed by, and the garden breakfast I chose was delicious. Lovely selection of gifts and items in the attached shop, with helpful staff there too. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely gorgeous place. Amazing atmosphere and fabulous food. Good selection of fresh food and deserts to purchase as well as frozen and pre packed food from well known brands. Gorgeous Katie Loxton bags and purses and lovely spa products,jewellery and clothing. I've recommended it to a few people as its different from the run of the mill coffee shops.

Really lovely find in Rogerstone. Beautiful decoration, great atmosphere and lovely food and coffee. Carpark was quite full as it's also used for the Co-op next door, but there are disabled bays and electric charging.

Lovely place for food,very busy,lovely shop upon entry,food available for takeaway,reasonably priced. Car park beside or there's the road in front,wheelchair accessible,kid friendly.

Shame about the cakes, but the teas and coffees were fine. Strange that you can't eat any of the deli offering in the cafe. It looked tastier than the cakes.

Slow service, too much syrup on my pancakes

Arrived with my husband and two children around 9.45am. Ordered avocado eggs for myself, the eggs were hard so I spoke with the waiter, Dylan, who promptly sorted it out and got me a new one. The eggs were perfect this time. The reason I’m writing this review is to give credit to Dylan. Not only was he incredibly polite and friendly, he was managing the entire place by himself. I didn’t see another waiter and the place was rammed busy with a big queue too. He kept his cool and took it in his stride, such a lovely lad. He is an absolute credit to the Garden Kitchen. X

Lunch/brunch food at Pugh’s is fantastic! Everything was delicious. The service was quick and the staff very helpful, looking after us and offering to bring water for our dogs too. I will definitely return!

Came here for a girlie day and was so impressed. What a treat! The dishes are so beautiful and I was really impressed with the hash I had for brunch. Great atmosphere and lovely, attentive staff. Would definitely return. Great deal on the bottomless brunch too. Not too pricey and seems a great deal for the quality of the food.

My favourite brunch spot with a great range of food on the menu, always beautifully presented, and the coffee never disappoints. Love the decor in the restaurant too - the team at Pugh’s have made a real effort to make this a lovely and unique place to eat, drink and shop.

Worse cafe in Newport. Most of the waiting staff are the laziest and so careless. They will leave you queue when there are available tables, not take your order and blatantly ignore you. The food is over priced too. Definitely one to avoid, the place is just living on its hype.

Plates smell of egg. Sourdough toast was too hard. Expensive.

Had a delicious brunch called 'hash brown breakfast' a different breakfast/brunch dish that I don't normally see on a menu. Tasty combination of hash brown, egg, bacon, hollandaise sauce, chorizo, chive and spring onions. Quality of food excellent. Service very good with friendly staff and the restaurant setting and atmosphere is lovely.

Well what a delightful experience that was! I had no idea The Garden Kitchen existed until a friend suggested we meet there for lunch. The brucey bonus is it's only 10 minutes away from my house. Welcomed with a smile, we were seated immediately. The place had a lovely buzz for a Thursday lunchtime. The menu was great and catered for all, lovely to see some different dishes available. The Shakshuka was delicious, plentiful and came with a garlic flat bread accompaniment. The coffee was long and hot. Staff were attentive, polite and they came to check if everything was alright with our meal. The decor is fabulous, anywhere with fairy lights and I'm sold! Lovely little deli counter offering sweet and savoury treats and a gorgeous little gift/card area. Will definitely be back. Pugh's strikes again!✨️🫶👌😋

I understand I am in the minority here but I live not far from Pughs and go in there fairly regularly as a coffee fanatic. I have bought from the shop also. However, the staff need training on customer service. I counted 12 members of staff in there yesterday, most doing very little, I also heard one of the staff swearing. Service is consistently slow and I have decided to stick to The Nook for my coffees in future! Such a shame as the food in Pughs is nice and the coffee is good too. However, for the prices they charge, service is horrendous. Today I went in to get coffees and pies 🥧 for my dinner, but after being ignored and standing round like a lemon, I fail to see why this place is so popular.

Food was really good, but service extremely slow. It wasn’t busy there and all staff just hanging around the till chatting. We had to call someone to serve us and then the drinks were very slow. Nobody seemed to be supervising the youngsters. Such a shame as the food was lovely when it came

Very nice food. The breakfast in particular. Everything just north of where it should be priced including coffee and alcohol. Service is variable and often slow. Take your own spoon and sugar. If you know what you want then go up to the counter and order. Seem to have quite a turnover of staff and feels a little chaotic at times. Coffee is very good. Nice atmosphere at the times when it's not been turned into a creche. Despite the speeding vans and lorries going past, the outside tables are a mellow place to chill when the sun decides to come out. They sell Laithwaites wines in the shop. Now that was a good idea.

Arrived just before 3pm..not busy as no que. Shown to a table. 20 mins later not even asked what drink we would like. Staff chatting to each other for quite some time. One member then took the order from the ladt couple who came in. ( check your cameras..you will see us waiting..others too) We have been attending since it opened and have been used to good food and service. Hope this was a one off.. Miserable rainy day made worse by a lack of customer service.

My special breakfast was decent. A it spicy, it I'm a bit of a wimp with spice. The full breakfast was more like a 3/5 as didnt look great for the price

Fantastic experience at the Garden Kitchen yesterday, food and service was incredible and I couldn’t fault it. The staff were happy to accommodate any request and our meals were delicious (so big we had to take them home!) Cocktails were amazing, I personally recommend the Apple and Rose Gin Fizz as it was a perfect blend of all the flavours. Again, fantastic experience and will be returning very soon!

Really pretty cafe and plant shop, and the food we had was tasty. However the service was very slow, we waited in the queue for 30 minutes hoping to get breakfast. It was a busy Sunday but we watched multiple tables leave and could have been sat earlier, however it was so slow that we ended up being sat after breakfast had finished being served. There seemed to be a lot of staff but some were just wandering around not seeming to do anything which was annoying seeing how busy it was. We would come back for lunch again but it was a shame about the service. Portions are big which is good, we had duck flatbread and the chilaquiles (I think they're just based on proper chilaquiles as they were different to what our Mexican friend has before but they did taste good). Would recommend but be prepared to wait around for a while!

The service was extremely slow and the manager had a horrible attitude (and was rude to his staff) and made us all feel uncomfortable. There was also no consistency in the flavour/strength of the cocktails. We had a few of the same on our table and they all tasted different, one of which was so bad we requested another. There was also some confusion with the bill at the end where we asked to pay a balance but we’d actually over paid. All in all very disappointing exper

A new find! A shop of two halves! A very nice but densely packed home shop and a nicely appointed cafe with indoor and a small outdoor table area. Very pleasant staff and excellent menu - breakfast/brunch and lunch menus. Excellent cake range. Small car park and on street parking.

Disappointed with our visit, service shocking and ignored on table service and decided to grab a take away. Been 2/3 times before and absolutely fine seems their trying to be upmarket but failing on this visit

What a lovely place to visit, plants, deli, and large kitchen. The space is nicely designed making full use of the high ceiling height and plants. Good choice of Welsh food and drink in the deli including choose your own portion size of frozen foods to take away. Breakfast in the cafe was great, good selection well cooked and presented. Plenty of attentive staff on hand. Definitely recommend the Shakshuka.

First visit for coffee + cake. Must say it was the best cappuccino I've tasted. My wife was very complimentary about her vanilla latte and we shared a slice of coffee cake which was very tasty.

I have just visited this place for a bit of lunch the Service was absolutely appauling after waiting a substantial amount to be asked if we wanted a drink the waiter came Iver with a filthy glass then said hebwould get another. We the had to wait again before being asked if we were wanted something to eat I then sat and watched several people come in after me be served their food and drinks. I certainly will not be going to this establishment ever again.

Lovely lunch at this unique restaurant / deli. Really enjoyed the look of the place and the choice of food was excellent. Unfortunately, i arrived in the middle of the lunchtime rush and ended up queuing for about ten minutes before being seated and my order being taken. That said, the food that arrived was very good and well worth the wait. The choice of food in the deli too was excellent - pies, cheeses, chutneys, gins - all looked to good to be true. I will certainly return to try these wares too.

Having passed this place on numerous occasion it was always busy with people dining so I knew I had to try. I’ve been here several times for food now and I can honestly recommend to anyone. Have had breakfast on one occasion and lunch on another. Breakfast I tried the Hash Brown stack, a must if your stopping for breakfast. For lunch I had the Reuben Sandwich, again a must try. Honestly if you haven’t stopped in and tried the food then please do as it was fantastic, the staff are all very pleasant and helpful. Also they have a great deli to take some great snacks home.

Really poor experience today. Took my ninety year old friend for a supposed treat. Area was very noisy, service was appalling (asked for sugar to go with coffee and female waitress threw 3 sachets across the table on her way past back to the serving area)…. Shameful….Two customers lost today 👎🏼 👎🏼 👎🏼

Theme idea is lovely, but the 'natural' look felt depressingly fake when you realise the extent of the plastic foliage. Staff were very pleasant but inattentive and it was difficult to get their attention. Food and drink was good

Lovely place for a catch-up. Loaded breakfast roll was delicious. Staff very pleasant and helpful, but as the venue was very busy service today was a little slower than I've known it previously.

Had the Rendang curry, which was OK, the chicken burger was awful and the sharing platter of desserts was atrocious and extortionate at £8 for 3 slivers of cakes The only saving grace was the coffee. Will not be going again.

Visited a number of times, it's a beautiful place. Food is generally pretty good. Went on Saturday for the tasting menu and was quite disappointed. Service is never great, usually a bit slow but we waited 35 min for drinks ( even tap water!) . First course we served and cleared and still no drinks despite asking multiple times - friends we were with had exactly the same issue at previous tasting session. The food was ok, sadly a lot of breaded/battered courses which felt quite heavy and a few courses felt a bit similar which was such a shame. Nice touch having live music, and the 🎷 sax guy was talented but it was loud and made some conversation difficult. I'd go back for brunch, but not a taster evening.

Very cozy atmosphere in The Garden Kitchen. I had the special beef rib burger and it was too for for and should definitely become a permanent edition. The kids portions were very good too, and they thoroughly enjoyed them. Only negative I could call out would be that the was only one waitress on a pretty busy Sunday.

I always come back as it’s so cute and the food is delicious. However, expect TERRIBLE service 😂 every time I come back it’s the same. Staff tried to push in front of me for the queue for the toilets, stand doing nothing when I’m waiting for service, give consistently mixed messages about which menu they’re using, I could go on!

Lovely place to catch up with friends nice food

Went Saturday evening with my friend Lisa to their Chinese New Year tasting menu. A fantastic evening and the food was delicious. We have also been to their wine tasting event and had a great time . Lovely music to accompany the evening A great ambiance, the staff are friendly and only happy to help . You must go if you have a chance to one of their Saturday night themed events or their tasting evening . Can't wait for what's to come . Amanda Compton
