The Galley Cafe in Lewes

Like the new light and open layout. Good to have it back open. Lovely spot for tea and cake on a sunny day.

I was served the WORST parkrun breakfast I’ve ever had today, I ordered eggs Benedict at the sailing club, the bacon and egg was served on a uncooked bap, the egg wasn’t cooked properly, and it was drenched in sauce. I tried a couple of mouth fulls but I knew I’d be sick and had to give it back to them and I requested a refund. Absolutely awful! 😢

Met my friend there, they ordered me a mocha, they asked for a ham and cheese toastie and cup of tea. When my mocha came, the server apologised for the fact it was slopped in the saucer and brought me over 2 serviettes, there was a lot in the saucer, including the only bit of chocolate from the sprinkles. It tasted weak, milky so a 'mock'a really and was probably a latte. My friend's toastie was a small baguette that hadn't been near a toaster, it was served on its side so it fell open, there was a bit of ham, 2 pieces of sliced cheese, salad bits at the side served on a piece of oversized greaseproof paper, in a plastic basket effect bowl. I haven't rated the food as I didn't have any, just observed what my friend ordered and how it arrived. The views are spectacular; the company of my friend superb and the renovations of the Yacht club itself lovely. It isn't that the staff aren't nice or polite - I was brought 2 napkins for my slopped coffee and apologies were made. It didn't ruin my day, was just a moment and everything in my review can be improved, I will definitely go again and try other things.

Went for lunch with a friend, I had quiche & Salad my friend had ham salad. It came in a basket with paper inside got to say never had salad in a basket the salad was awful bagged salad with half a tomato and a piece of quiche the size you would give a child, my friends was all salad again with half a tomato with horrible ham cut up on top. Trying to eat salad on.paper is difficult I kept getting bits of paper in the salad ridiculous. I was so disappointed won't be returning which is a shame as such lovely views

Expensive paid £22 for a bottle of HARDYS wine. £5 in tescos! At least put on something people wouldn't know, the kids meal burger was a frozen icelands!!!!! He didnt eat it and to be honest I wouldn't feed it to my dog obviously was open to everyone having the opportunity of business but it shouldn't of gone to someone that can't run a business luckily the views speak for themselves! Will be the only reason this business will thrive but I believe the Council should have given to someone new who wanted to do tapas and nice foods or something!!! Also very inattentive waited a while and person wasn't interested when asked a question won't return or recommend

Lovely venue overlooking the bay. Walked in to meet my colleagues for a catch up and breakfast. No one inside at the tables. One table occupied outside. I stood at the bar inside and waited for the person behind the bar to acknowledge my presence. Waited still. Waited some more. Nothing! My colleague chose the venue so when the rest of them turn up I will inevitably join them. But I am fuming inside. I need to be here to catch up on some important details regarding work. Otherwise I would of just turned on my heel and walked out. Really disappointed. The venue is lovely the view is great. I'm sure the food will be delicious. But it will leave a bitter taste. Ignorant people are the worst. Unless it was willfully (obtuse). That would be even worse. Don't be out off by my review. It may if been a bad day (we all have them). Just being honest.

Great spot on the beach. Lovely selection of beers and ciders. Amazing service - we arrived as the kitchen was closing but they still managed to put on some great fish and chips for us! Highly recommend!

Visited a few times now since opening, and the new management are amazing. Service is fast and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Varied options for seating, including the beach itself (as long as our drinks were in plastics), dog friendly and all dietary needs catered for also. Can’t wait for our next visit !

Had such a lovely breakfast here, prices are fair and the place itself is very welcoming. Love it! Definitely coming back.

Quite nice - lack of alternative options has pos led to a bit of a lack of effort. Baileys coffee didn't taste much of Baileys. Carrot cake was a bit soggy. It's ok, but it's the only option and not great value.

We had breakfast twice during our stay in Seaford. Fantastic food at a reasonable price and lovely friendly staff. Can’t fault it!!!

Be prepared to wait. True, it’s a warm day in the summer season, but really need a more efficient way of taking orders, everyone queueing up at one counter to try and order. Eventually someone came out to take just drink and ice-cream orders, but by then for two cold drinks I’d queued for close on twenty minutes.

Visited today an absolute haven on a very windy day. Great service, great cakes, lovely staff.

They know how to make a bacon sandwich. Not just a couple of sliced white and s single rasher..... Oh no, proper wedge of bread, and good full fill of bacon. And all the other breakfasts on our table (10 people) were also up to the same par. Excellent.

Five stars for location, atmosphere and service, but only two for food, I’m afraid 😕 Halloumi fries were greasy, waaay to much cranberry sauce in a cold toasty and average English breakfast. On a good side - salad was super fresh and tasty. It was very busy when we visited which I guess could affect the quality of food, but it did not affect quality of the service. The staff was helpful and kept smiling.

Sitting outside watching the sea with glass sides to the decked area is so relaxing. The freshly made cakes and sweets are good to have with their good coffee. Their decaf Coffee is very good. Dog Friendly outsode with an area inside on wet and wild days!

Had to eat outside in the rain as members only area had to be kept available.

A lovely place for coffee or a light meal after a walk on the beach. Very nice atmosphere. Dog friendly.

Very tasty breakfasts and friendly service.

The food was decent but let down by service Saturday morning. The waiter doesn't smile or greet people. Tables sticky and full crumbs, they don't take the initiative to wipe without asking. Other young staff members chatting and giggling behind the bar and in the kitchen. Has potential and a great location on the sea front. Kept us warm on a wet windy day. Surprisingly decent selection of food etc but don't expect fine dining! It's a club house bar that does a bit of food.

Lovely little place for a lunch a meet up or a cuppa on your own. The staff work incredibly hard and are always so friendly. A little gem that I love to visit. I hope it always remains the same.

Enjoy lovely sea views from this delightful beach Cafe. Good menu, friendly staff. Change of operators since we were last here and things are better. Inside has been revamped a little and looking better for it.

The place was very busy  but the bacon sandwiches on brown granery bread were to die for.  The service was very affiant and the atmosphere was lively overall a nice reasonable place for a meal or a snack.

Services was quite slow - we only had tea and cake... the cake was long gone before our pot of tea was delivered. It wasn't a busy day - mid week, mid afternoon. Took about 15 minutes Very expensive for a small take away tea on another visit ! Just a teabag and water and £1.75!!

This is a cafe on the beach at Seaford/Tide mills A lovely place to enjoy a drink after a lovely dog walk across the beach towards Newhaven The teas and coffees are very good and the food coming out looks nice and tasty The staff are friendly and helpful but the service overall is very slow and let's the cafe down If they could speed up their service it would be a wonderful place to go. We have visited several times even in the winter time and it's always warm and friendly, allows dogs but even when not busy the service is rather slow.

Very friendly and cosy atmosphere

The food, whether a full meal or just a cake is always good, with excellent portions and excellent value; there's even a great choice of drinks. The atmosphere is unique and all the better for it; it's a great place to stop for refreshments or lunch, whether you sit inside or on the decking or the beach. Our walking group's waitress yesterday was totally brilliant, other places take note, this is how it should be done.

The food was very nice. Surprised of the amount of food / quality for the price. I had the vegetarian breakfast which also come in a vegan option. I think the mushrooms and haloumi could have used some seasoning otherwise everything was good. Service seemed a little disorganised and overwhelmed even with very few customers, but everyone was nice and welcoming. Amazing location, and great atmosphere.

Very good breakfast and attentive staff. The door being left open can be a bit irritating otherwise generally good. Also the larger part of the restaurant is reserved for Sailors of the yacht club. Though I would say there are a lot more non Sailors therefore a definite need to re-apportion the space.

Monday 29th August 2022 Ordered 2 take away coffees 25 minutes later member of staff making the coffee made them in china cups and then poured them into takeaway cups, after reading the order slip again. When I eventually got them they where cold asked for a refund and was told we are busy sadly after 3 visits to the Galley and on all 3 occasions mistakes have been made with food and drink order's we will not be returning. Note for the Owner stop taking breakfast orders when you haven't got the food to cook them with.

This is a great cafe with a good selection of food and drink, but prices may be considered high by some. The best thing about fhe café is the setting, looking out over Seaford Bay. Another really good point, which I gave an extra star for, is that it is open well into the evenings and the outside seating makes for a great way to enjoy the end of the day. Very popular with walkers of all kinds, beach visitors and, on Saturday mornings, the Seaford Beach Parkrunners, at which time the café gets very busy.

Very good service and the food was excellent. Very generous sandwich fillings and portions etc. Highly recommended.

Perfect little spot to get some food whilst walking along Seaford Beach. The wait was a bit long so make sure you're not in a hurry during the weekend. The food was good and the staff was friendly.

Unfortunately there was a power cut when we visited and were unable to order food, the staff were friendly though and the drinks were fine.

Friendly staff, but most of the meals were out when we got there at 2 pm on a Monday. Toasts are ok, but simple. Chips are tasty.

Whilst not very busy, we waited over 45mins to get our food, when it arrived it was wrong, plus 3 other tables , when I questioned the mistake I was told - nothing they can do and we should order again at the till, don't fancy waiting another 45mins for a portion of chips, food was not worth the wait, I suggest 15 minute walk down to another chippy was much better off there.

If you recover from the shock of the prices which are exorbitant you can rest, secure in the knowledge that it's unlikely you will ever be served so won't have to pay anything at all. I gave up waiting after watching the five staff scurry around like headless chickens for five minutes or so. Later the owner posted in reply to my review that it's counter service. Strangely I realised this at the time so stood in the queue at the counter for five or so minutes waiting to be served which is how I was able to count the number of people scurrying to and fro to no effect. I was also able to count the number of people ahead of me in the queue waiting to be served : this number was smaller than number of staff.

Outdoor seating has nice views of the sea. Friendly service and very good coffee.

Nice coffee, right on the beach front. Good selection of seats outside and some inside if it's not warm enough. Great set of cakes to choose from. I have to say, the lemon and blueberry was totally delish. Really moist and mmmmmmm.

Dog friendly, ideal stop on a walk through Tide Mills. Staff are friendly. A bit expensive for what it is but they're the only ones there during the winter. Nice views of the beach and across the sea. Outdoor seating for better weather...

Not a bad little place. Ordering was a bit slow when busy and their system of noting where you were sitting just clearly didn't work. Vegan options available and staff friendly and helpful.

Get there early before they run out of the meat and gravy pies. The vegetable quiche was nice but undercooked. Would recommend the salad as this was very fresh and tasty. Sedate service so be prepared to wait or go elsewhere if you don't have time.

This has to be one of the best locations for a cafe. They just need to get the best staff to run it...... The food is good the drinks are too but the service is a little to be desired. Maybe the staff are volunteers trying to make some money for the sailing club, or perhaps it's their 'thing' to have rules....that come across as unnecessary and confusing, but laughable all at the same time. I like this place but they really need to get a grip with franchising the place out to someone who knows what they're doing. OR train the volunteers in customer service...... This won't put me off going as I love the place!

Out for a walk this is a great place to stop and have refreshments. Being right on the seafront it affords lovely sea views.

Lovely Galley breakfast had at the cafe, with coffee and cake a bit later, left to just chat away our day, not rushed off by the staff. Staff all very nice and helpful. Lovely location just on the prom at Seaford sailing club

Nice place and busy. Great selection of food and cakes. Unfortunately let down by the young girl serving who had a row with a middle aged group over what they had ordered (they wanted dairy free) and she argued they had asked for normal milk. Then our two drinks came after 20 mins. I asked for sugar. The cake followed and then a tea spoon for my drink. Then she brought out 2 forks and announced to me that I had told her I didn’t want her to bring me sugar. If that was the case why bring a teaspoon. The other customers were all in disbelief at the bad attitude. Shame the cafe is lively but one bad staff member makes all the difference

Great beach location, friendly staff, very handy that it's open until 6pm (at least while it's still daylight, don't know about the winter), tasty coffee and very moist cake. Members only on Sunday 9-3 but that's fair enough.

This is one if the most lovely experiences I’ve ever had at a cafe by the sea. Staff were more than welcoming, they were positively embracing. The food was lovely with little special touches … topped off by a really good mug of tea. Can I recommend highly enough.

Ordered thick milkshakes, they tastes and had the consistancy of water! I'd hate to order a thin version! Flavouring was so artificial. The oreo option was a semi warm chocolate drink. The oreos arrived on a plate??? Odd! Table not wiped down! Card board wedged between the slates of the table. Cutlery was dirty, so we didn't use it. Standard tea, was undrinkable...you could stand the spoon up in it and it smelt musty. The latte was like instant coffee with melted whipped added, it wasn't great. Prime location poor quality, limited offering of healthy food. Staff friendly trying to make the best of the substandard offering. Id not go back!

This cafe is absolutely wonderful. The food is superb. Breakfast is a must and you can have it til 12.00. After that you can still have brunch so you are never too late to enjoy breakfasty things. Lunches look fab but the thing that tops it all are the staff who are soooooo friendly & efficient. I just adore this place come rain or shine. ❤

Lovely breakfast vegetarian sausages to die for. Updated decor really nice. Waitress service extremely good lovely chatty lady. Looking forward to having lunch there tomorrow. Greatly recommended. Have a multi choice menu with lots of interesting choices.

Great cafe, no frills. Dogs are welcome. Basic in the nicest sense. Good food, I'm vegan and they're happy to doctor the veggie breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

After a bracing walk, The Galley Café offers a warm reception and rather decent tea and toasted teacakes! Have enjoyed other light meals here too, so would recommend. Salt-encrusted beards are preferred, but optional. If only I had taken my box of emergency beards...

Awesome spot for coffee, breakfast, lunch, a quick pint... Take your pick! Homemade soups, cakes and specials. Well stocked bar. Dog and child friendly. Relaxing whatever the weather. Thanks to the Sailing Club for sharing their amazing space!

Fantastic location , panoramic views of the bay and great menu ,also very friendly. This is probably my tenth visit .Maybe Seaford head cafe' next time

Under new management, thank goodness! The lovely setting of The Galley always make it a draw for locals, dog walkers and holiday makers. For the last year it has looked like the local tip with the shabby and far from chic furniture to welcome you. The staff did their best with poor quality produce and a belligerent boss, often under manned during busy times, with nothing but criticism from the 'boss', adding to the complaints of customers being served over priced food and drinks. What a difference a week makes, the new management has given the place a makeover from paintwork to furniture. Gone are the shabby outside chairs covered in rust and falling apart. New smart tables and chairs outside give you an idea of the improvements inside. Matched clean crockery, clean tables and happy, smiling professional staff. Beautifully presented, value for money tasty meals served quickly. There is a whole new breakfast and lunch menu and the place even opens half an hour earlier at 08:30. My advice If you have been to The Galley in the last year, return and see the transformation now you wont be disappointed.
