Excellent cooking, a good wine selection and warm service. There was a wide choice on offer and one of our party, gluten free, was delighted with the options available to her. The Karnyorik (an aubergine dish) was delicious and the turkish delight icecream was out of this world.

This was a return visit for the three of us. We enjoyed a fabulous meal with service from the young crew who were clearly aiming to please. The meze, served as an entree for 2, was colourful, full of texture and flavours. Our mains were great; my blackend Suffolk pork so succulent and full of taste. It was all simply delicious, and in delightful surroundings.

We were excited to get a table given the reviews, but… Rarebit starter was nice but the fritters were served in a stemmed glass bowl on top of some very tired looking rocket and had to be removed onto the small, napkin-covered plate to be cut up. Over cooked and with an over-spiced batter, the main taste was lost. The halibut portion was huge but it was so overcooked being really tough and dried out. The thermidor sauce could have helped but there was little of it. Rice pudding took a long time to come but was really good. Wine list was extensive with a great (expensive) collection of Ch Musar (not sure why given such limited opening), yet only one red/white/rose by the glass… Staff were very nice but it fell apart a little at the end and we asked twice for the bill and had to prompt to pay (and then after having had the bill adjusted). A restaurant normally is either quiet or has piped music, but here the music was playing in the fairly open-plan kitchen for the benefit only of the chef/patron. Sorry, but at those prices you have to do so very much better.

After not being able to visit for more than a year going back to the Galley was sheer joy. The food was even better than our memories and before, it rated five stars on many other occasions. The chef patron brings many years experience to his food and seasons and flavours in a creative fashion. All courses were a delight and complemented by attentive service. All three of us were very satisfied with our choices and cannot wait to go back. Three courses each including coffee and wine: £120 is cheap by today's standards.

As always, an excellent meal (first time we have been for lunch). The owner is always a proper host and in good charge of the kitchen and dining rooms. The food, mainly Turkish or so inspired, is always interesting and of very high quality. The place is nicely decorated with (mainly upstairs) interesting artwork. Thoroughly recommended.

Another fantastic meal at The Galley. When we find ourselves in Woodbridge we always try to get into The Galley for meal and what better chance than Lobster Night! Ugur was our amazing host and as always he looked after us and chatted at the table, he knows his wine and happily recommends to compliment the dish. We started with home made Turkish Meze and a glass of bubbly. The meze was fantastic, we ordered extra bread so we could finish it. The lobster can be ordered with a choice of sauces, I went with the classic garlic and butter and Kate had a saffron based one and both were delicious. Ugur has branched out into home made ice creams so dessert was a lovely sorbet. I highly recommend visiting their ice cream parlour over the road to really appreciate it. Once again great atmosphere and a lovely host who makes wonderful food. Looking forward to the next time!

I was very pleased when friends made a reservation at the galley a restaurant that I had known well before I had moved away from Suffolk ten years ago. The standard of the food offered had not changed, it was excellent then and is still excellent today. The tongue starter was an enjoyable surprise and my Turkish Karniyarik was as tasty as ever. Two of our party had a large swordfish steak each while my host opted for the whole lobster. We all gave the meal a strong thumbs up. You people of Woodbridge are very lucky to have such a restaurant but I suggest that you go and use it before you loose it.

Service was good, polished and prompt, I'll say that and the reason we paid what we thought was a cheek of an option regarding service charge. You have a choice of graded payment levels, 15% minimum, then higher, (25% I think) then 40% was top request. With the prices charged here - that's a lot to top up on the bill. Looking at the menu it doesn't seem terribly expensive but it's a bill that creeps up on you! We've dined at The Unruly Pig, The Suffolk and Ruth Watson's in Fram. Dine regularly in Bury. Lived in Brighton most our lives so we also get Londen/Southern costs. This was the most expensive in Suffolk in our experience. My main, Blackened Pork was very good. The salt cod fish cake starter was totally tasteless. How can you achieve that with salt fish? The chilli sauce on the side created taste but how can you make salt cod fish cake tasteless? Should have just ordered a bowl of chilli. We did mention this, apology received and a 'I'll let chef know', what point is that? Go give them a cooking lesson? Cut our loses, waited for the main and, nope, dull, dull, dull. Tasteless. We wanted to enjoy here, we really, really did. We don't visit Woodbridge often and The Galley is only open 2 days/night a week. Finally got a booking, tried for the past few months but it was such a disappointment taste wise. Expensive as well. I don't understand why so highly rated, maybe we had a bad night, picked bad dishes or maybe Woodbridge is suffering a case of 'The Emperor's New Clothes' giving 5 star reviews. We paid over £160, 2 courses each, bottle of wine (luckily a bin end we enjoy so just £35) and 2 brandy coffees. No lobster involved. Then that service charge! I know we can refuse to pay but it seemed churlish when we had had such good service. Just a shame about mostly 'so so' food.

Fabulous meal at The Galley! The lobster was excellent, but the sea bass was exceptional. Probably the best I’ve ever had - fresh and perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce. The wine was lovely - a reasonably priced Gavi Di Gavi. The service was also very attentive and friendly. It’s a great place for couples or a big group of friends. You will be made to feel very welcome.

Although a pleasant small restaurant with great promise, and friendly staff, the food is overpriced and not generous in its portion size. The starter, a fish soup which was more a broth with no fish content, tasted mainly of Turkish spices in a small bowl cost £9.00. it contained two croutons and no extra bread. The main was a Turkish lamb stew. It arrived in a small, shallow terracotta dish with a small scoop of rice and an equally small side salad. The stew tasted predominantly of Turkish spices but contained only two small pieces of lamb. The owner said it should have been five but even so for £25.00 this was vastly overpriced. It was more like a starter.

Brilliant Saturday lunch at the Galley. Delicious Turkish-inspired food and a supremely good host. A stylised - deconstructed it would be called in east London - kebab starter presented on a mini wrap with a dressing and salad was interesting. Juicy and tender lamb cubes, richness cut by a scattering of pomegranate. A Welsh rarebit starter was also novel. Served on flat mushrooms rather than toast. Main of Turkish aubergine, very slowly roasted and filled with venison lamb and beef mince. Meltingly delicious and deeply savoury. Turkish lamb stew was well received, a densely pack dish of warm flavours and succulent lamb. Dessert of baclava was a large triangle of sweetness. A crème brûlée was creamy, could have had a crisper top layer of caramel. House Pinot noir was tasty.

In a town full of gastro-pubs this restaurant is a hidden gem. The welcome was warm, the service was very professional at the same time as being friendly. The food was really good, nice drinks available, and good advice on the wine. Yet the cost was still a pleasant surprise when the bill came. We had a really great night.

I understand why this restaurant does well, but.....the food is below average. The diners are quite mature and the menu and style of cooking/presentation matches the generational expectation. It is not a foodie restaurant by any stretch and can only be desribed as old fashioned. I guess that suits everyone attached as the restaurant was very busy and everyone seemed happy. Under 70, avoid.

This is a restaurant for foodies. Extremely good food in a warm cozy setting. Everything was incredible, authentic...very fresh top-notch ingredients. Had cured fish, then lamb shank topped off with sticky toffee buddy with their signature homemade ice cream.

We booked 4 for lunch and didn’t say on the booking but we were celebrating a family birthday. The experience from arriving to leaving was so personal, warm and friendly while at the same time being 100% professional. The menu is hard to choose from because it’s all so appealing and the wine list is excellent. The bin ends offer particularly good value if you find something to suit. All 3 courses were outstanding and it’s impossible to pick out one dish from any course simply because they were all so good. We felt very welcome throughout and appreciated when our questions were answered so comprehensively which only happens when dishes are cooked in situ. At the end, the owner had spotted a birthday card on the table and surprised us with a cake and a candle and a chorus of happy birthday. It was made truly a special occasion!

Thank you for making my birthday so special with your welcome and wonderful food. Our friends were most impressed and have said they want to return. Your restaurant and you are unique and we hope to come back again soon. The hour and a half journey was really worth it.

Wonderful lunch on Christmas Day. Excellent food and service on a very busy day. Menu was more limited than normal days, which is to be expected but more than enough choice for us. We started with a glass of Ephesus rose. Our party of three had duck liver pate (scrumptious) and cured salmon to start , followed by tranche of halibut for me, steak for my husband and the full turkey dinner for our son. We ended with baklava and creme brulee, some of the best I have ever tasted. Our meal was accompanied by a delicious red wine form Ugur's excellent cellar. Great experience, well done to The Galley and staff.

Outstanding restaurant. We’ve known the Galley for years as, luckily, we live nearby. It is consistently good. We had xmas dinner there again this year and the food, the wine and the young staff were all excellent. Three of us had traditional turkey but my husband chose the steak which he said was standout. The owner/chef, Ugur, is a magician! He produces delicious dishes using fresh, quality ingredients that wherever possible are locally sourced. I would recommend the Galley to anyone.

Had a meal here on Saturday evening, 13 people in total. What a great experience, staff couldn't be more friendly. Food was great and you were made to feel special. Had a room to ourselves upstairs and were never left wanting. A great dining experience and a place I highly recommend.

The price didn't reflect the quality of the food, the service from the young ladies were excellent, the food could really improve. Consistent portions and good presentation can go a long way.

It’s been four years since we last managed to visit Woodbridge and The Galley. It never disappoints and the food, ambience and service is exceptional. Perfect lobster and some steaks for my boys. Wonderful evening and a pleasure to spend a little of bit of time with the owner Ugur. Some very tasty new ice cream flavours as well made on site. Thanks again and I can’t stop thinking about that lobster!

What a lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting within the centre of Woodbridge overlooking the square. This is a brilliantly run establishment by its very friendly and knowlegable Turkish proprietor offering exquiste continental dishes with European, Mediterranean and Turkish influences. Something for all tastes !! The restaurant is set on two floors, quaintly furnished with views of the village. We had a table for fourwith starters of fish soup and kabab, our mains were the lobster and halibut ( this was waxwd-lyrical by my brother who is usually rather fussy ) For dessert we chose the tasty rice pudding and the sticky toffee pudd. All these dishes were very well presented and absolutely delicious with everyone's plate cleared. The Turkish wine was perfect as was the service by our waitresses. We visited The Galley with our friends Janet and Matthew who live 30 miles away but regard the restaurant as the best in the area. There was no complaints from my brother and I as we had a memorable evening with great food and company. Thoroughly recommend.

Great place! Staff brilliant! Ambiance brilliant! Food well thought out and to be fair well priced against what you get closer to London. Wine menu exquisite and well paired with everything on the menu. Bin end Amarone at £50 is a steal when compared with the younger £45 online price same wine. Everyone raves about the pork belly but my Medjool dates were brilliant and the lamb shank what brilliant Well balanced / great flavours The final brilliance was the muscat with the panatone and crème bruleee Great service and the chef came out to see us!

We had a delicious light lunch at the Galley. The owner has an extensive wine cellar and provided a spot on recommendation to pair with our food. The husband and wife owners made our time there highly enjoyable. Go there and enjoy the food and service!

I really wish we had been before and didn't have to get elsewhere as it's such a lovely spot to get comfortable and work your way through the menu. it's a stylish but cosy place with friendly young staff that achieve a difficult mix of being easy-going and very professional and elegant. I had the halibut which I don't think I've actually had before but as I left I got a whiff of the garlic anchovies and wished I could have stayed longer. If the Turkish side of the menu is not your bag, there are some lovely options. I understand why it's so highly rated. Do a few things very well and make all welcome. A great spot for people watching. Woodbridge looked so great in the Autumn sun. Plus some good pubs next door if you want a longer evening. I feel this is the sort of place for me.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Very good food, attentive staff and plenty of choice for vegetarians. Talking to other dinners their choice of dishes were equally scrumptious. Highly recommend the place and planning to visit again.

Can’t really fault this place. Run and owned by a terrifically friendly Turkish gentleman who has a genuine passion for food. All of the food was hand made with love care and attention to detail and the spices we delicious. Don’t overlook this brilliant restaurant.

Outstanding meal. Halibut cooked to absolute perfection. Beautifully cooked rib eye easily on par with the Hawksmoor or top NY steakhouse. Complimented as ever by great wine and an interesting zero dosage champagne. Excellent value and as always a very warm welcome….what’s not to like!
