The Fludyers Arms in Suffolk Coastal

Been coming here for years as its just a good pub but it annoying as it could be great. The location is truly superb but the small things that let it down. It's just lack consistency.

Went for a wedding, stayed there and the reception was there. Rooms very clean, staff brilliant, food great, breakfast lovely, views amazing, everything was superb.

We hired the Simpson Suite at the Fludgers Hotel for a party to celebrate my late father's life. From the minute I contacted the hotel, Ruby, our events organiser, was absolutely brilliant. She honestly couldn't have done more to make sure that we were looked after and the event ran smoothly. The suite is adjacent to the hotel, has stunning sea views, a bar and everything you need to host a celebration. The hotel room above the suite is also included in the hire price, with views of the sea, seaviews and breakfast included. The buffet was delicious, all dietary requirements catered for, the staff were helpful and could do no more to make sure the event was a success. Can not recommend highly enough!

Great menu, good beers, outstanding service and always busy which is a good sign. Apart from a venue for a casual beer, this has become our go-to place for a pre-theatre meal. Excellent!

Really rate the Fludyers Hotel highly, best see views in town to be honest, really friendly and hard working attentive staff, as a Transgender woman some places ain't as accepting so for the staff to be professional and treat me like any other guest felt good and put me at ease, lovely ambiance to place with candlelit tables and very cozy..

Relaxed atmosphere, good food, great location and excellent service. The waiting staff were attentive when needed and invisible when not, seeming to appear just at the right moment. Very professional.

We stayed at the weekend and had the most luxurious relaxing break. Everything was amazing from the room down to meal at the restaurant. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble! For the Vegans, there was so many delicious options and I can highly recommend the mushroom risotto. My husband said his steak was fantastic! We love it there and can’t wait to return! Thank you so much!

I took a friend on 30th September, 2024 & tried to get a table, unfortunately, they were full, I now know why. I decided to purchase a bottle of champagne, the barman Charlie was extremely tentative and friendly in a professional manner, shortly after, a lovely waitress named Ruby came up to me & said she may have a table for us, well, she proceeded to make us feel so at home, found a table which was wonderful. We then saw another vacant table which I preferred, she gave it to us. I was so impressed by her welcoming & professional manor. Poppy was also very accommodating. I proceeded to talk to another member of staff, unfortunately, I didn’t get his name, he took on board how I love crackling & served a bowl to me. My guest & I were so impressed by the wonderful attentive staff, and the food was sublime, so delicious that I have rebooked for next Sunday. Thank you all for looking after us so well. You are ALL a credit to Fludyers. A very happy customer

Most beautiful Sunday Lunch with lovely, happy and friendly staff. Sunday lunch was devine, beautifully cooked with fresh ingredients in a lovely setting with views of the sea. What makes it so special though is the staff. They made us feel very comfortable, nothing was too much trouble. Super polite, professional and all happy and smiley. Thank you! X

I have never stayed only eaten and drunk here. Never had a bad meal. Slightly more expensive than other local pubs, but you get what you pay for.

Great food, excellent lovely friendly staff and what an amazing view

Went in there, ordered Prosecco but they produced and opened 4 bottles of warm Prosecco before we asked for a refund and walked out. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Bar staff was nice but manger didn’t seem to care and completely ignored the situation. He walked past many times and didn’t help his staff. Be warned don’t go in there!

Sad to say 2nd visit for dinner this year where service in main restaurant was very poor. We were shown to our table, sat 20 minutes waiting in a not very busy restaurant for someone to take our drinks order. In the end we had to go to bar ourselves, called waitress over to order our food as we seemed to be invisible! 2nd drinks we went to bar ourselves again & an hour wait for food! 2 burgers, fish & chips, crispy chilli beef. Only when my husband complained to the on duty manager did service improve but by this time it was too late. Yes we did get a reduction off bill but we won't be eating here again, will stick to just drinks!

Ordered their burger. It was raw in the middle so sent back. Took 10 minutes for it to be returned by which time my husband had nearly finished his meal. The same burger had been recooked and was over cooked and dry. Chips had been reheated so were also dry. The chef had disguised this by presenting it on a fresh plate and fresh bun. They should have taken both meals and presented fresh ones. Turns out the paper menu had been updated and missed out the important ‘medium to rare’ description. Waitresses were polite and apologetic though. I sent an email to the manager to complain about the chef but no reply. Very poor attitude to customers it seems.

Had an overnight stay. Room spacious. Lovely bathroom. Very comfy bed. Breakfast amazing and able to order what wanted no problems

Roast diner was good but yourkshire puds burnt could not eat ,cabbage uncooked but rest was ok ,bar staff had added bottle of preseco ?? Which we did not have ,my friend refused pay for that as we had not had it ,maybe they got table 64 mixed up with 46, something we could done without . And staff need to not to repeat that.

The food was excellent. Reasonably priced. Staff helpful and friendly. Lovely view of the sea. Will definitely go back to Fludgers again.

Lovely place with great sea views

Visited the bar for a drink and a bite to eat after long sea front walk, seated on the outside terrace, great drinks and the Dirty Fries with pulled bbq pork were amazing, good service and reasonable prices, would definitely recommend.

WOW Again!! The Fludyers Hotel is fantastic. The beautiful old building in an idyllicl setting overlooking the beach at Felixstowe. The staff are all very friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming and even when busy you can just relax and enjoy the surroundings whilst waiting for food. The food is amazing, "well done" to the Chefs and fantastic range of dishes, giving a good choice on budget too. Ruby was the Supervisor on our first Friday night visit, 7 June 2024; Ruby took our telephone booking and was only too happy to help. Ruby was very pleasant and attentive, knowledgeable and efficient. Amelia also waited at table and she too was first class. We also attended Friday 12 July 2024 Ruby took our booking again; Ruby this time was evening Manager; what a fantastic job she did!! 👏 Kept everyone informed on food wait time, even though there were many table bookings food came out at a very reasonable time. She certainly is a 'people person' and still found time to go round to speak to each table. Jason also waited at table and he too was first class. Exceptional service, fab food, wonderful staff. Going into the bar area from outside through the automatic sliding glass doors, you'd think you were about to enter a library or accountants office. And once inside the soulessness continues into a bar area with less atmosphere than there is on the moon. A sterile bar with passable beers and friendly service with views of boulders on a stark beech is what you'll get here.

We ordered fish and chips take away. The fish was lovely. The take away box was lovely presented complete with all the sauces.

We had a wonderfull Sunday lunch here ,generous portions very tasty ,one thing IRITATED US bar staff throwing bottles in basket ,as your sitting there enjoying atmosphere suddenly every few minutes a BANG where bottles are being thrown into basket ,annoying . And although dog lovers dogs barking inside food area.

Completely refurbished and a great place to have a drink or a meal.

Consistently underwhelming food. Front of house staff have been great, but management has always let us down with not coming out to address problems with food (insects in salad, undercooked steak) and relaying messages through new start FOH staff. Hopefully they get on top of it soon, such a shame as very nice looking venue & location.

Saturday 8th June OUR WEDDING 38 sit down could of had more evening 60ish absolutely brilliant, not one thing to fault at all , Staff incredibly, RUBY just outstanding therefore every single detail , and pride taken in everything she does , AGGIE also helpful kind and friendly from start to finish, i arrived friday morning and we left monday afternoon and was looked after the WHOLE TIME , Made feel soooooo special , the food and value not only we thought it but every guest complimented the quality and taste and quantity AMAZING, the venue and setting right opp the beach for photos PERFECT and a sound system to be able to create your own wedding music was the icing on the cake as this was arranged in the order we wonted certain songs to be played, all with the help of RUBY, topped off in the eveing with chip butties that everyone enjoyed and just enough after the amazing 4 course meal. THE BAR STAFF well couldn't of been more efficient no drama and so reasonable with pricing. The next morning wedding breakfast set out for 24 guests again in Simpson Room , full english all served hot and high quality tea and coffe just kept coming and SERVICES again top form. SO all in all PERFECT , plus the hotel room , well just the cherry on the cake. On sunday morning even had a visit from the Fludyers Manager to check everything was to our standard, couldn't FAULT a thing and would 110% recommend the Hotel for any kind of CELEBRATION, made our day a FAIRY TALE .. The quality of the food was worth the terrible service we received. I can’t praise the chef and kitchen staff enough, they are doing a fantastic job. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the waiters, we ordered some drinks but nothing arrived, when prompting a bored looking individual twirling a tray, still nothing! However the delicious food arrived and we weren’t disappointed, however that was the end of it, we didn’t see another member of staff again, so we paid at the bar and bought an ice cream on the sea front for dessert.

The food was excellent and the service was excellent. And dog friendly.

Lovely looking place with an enviable position on the sea front , we only visited the bar , staff were friendly prices a little on the high side but lovely room and the terrace really made it for us , we sat out with beers and binoculars spotting ships boats and seals , the menu even had a vegan option which we didn't get to try but happy to know it's there , decor is contempory modern and very tastefully done.easy parking all around. Place is suffering , had a beer and glass was covered I finger prints, glass washer must be on the blink.

Regularly pop in for a sandwich and coffee, food is always spot on and service is excellent. Lovely outside seating area, only to be made better when the sun's out.

Sea front hotel, it is really clean. The beds are very comfortable with crisp white linen. The rooms have a shower and bath in the unsuited. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate options provided in the room along with biscuits. Have eaten in the restaurant a few times, recommend booking as it gets very busy. The food was really good and I was severed quite quick. The breakfast is extremely good, the full English is very filling. The staff I have always found helpful and had no issues.

My family held a wake in the room aside from the pub and it was fantastic food and service. Thanks so much.

One of a few beach facing spots in Felixstowe only ruined by the ignorant, arrogant, young, female manager (who ob needs to learn/work longer and harder at customer care and hospitality as a whole) who told not asked us to remove our mini dachs pup from OUR lap - not the furniture - whilst sat in the so called dog friendly bar area - with other guests who were enjoying our pup too and also thought a nonsense/petty request by the singled out member of staff. We promptly finished our drink (as we had planned on staying for lunch - which we decided against) and left to enjoy lunch at a proper dog friendly restaurant establishment - Fludgers take a very long hard look at what the Martlesham Red Lion are doing to become a truly dog friendly pub/restaurant and what good looks like. Absolutely disgusted with how we were treated here. Dog owners - If you have a dog go elsewhere…..there is better!

Rooms are spacious, clean and with a modern design. The balcony rooms overlooking the sea are brilliant. Such a lovely experience to wake up to the sound of the crashing waves and the sun rising over the horizon. The reception is at the bar, so there is competing service between you and the punters wanting pints, which can leave you waiting awkwardly. At peak times it might be a while before phone calls to reception are answered. The restaurant room is separate from the bar, simply arranged and with tasty interpretations of British dishes with some international cuisine mixed in. Notable mains include the fish and chips, the pork belly and rosti, the Thai yellow curry, and when it returns to the menu, the featherblade of beef. The menu changes regularly, so expect new and interesting courses each time you enter. We wait expectantly for April’s… Overall, this is a delightful place to stay when visiting Felixstowe for work or pleasure. It’s got 120 years of history but with a modern spec. Definitely make this your base if you get an opportunity.

I stayed in The Fludyers last week and really don't understand the 2* rating... the hotel is beautiful, the food fantastic and the staff very helpful.

Called in for some food. Thought I would have cheesey chips. Have not had those for years. Poor old chips with a dollop of cheese . Won’t be back for more!

I recently stayed at the Fludyers as part of birthday celebrations (party also held in their Simpson rooms). I could not fault any aspect of the weekend. From start to finish the staff and service was impeccable. The room I had (no 7) was stunning and spotlessly clean. It came with all the tea and coffee making amenities - much appreciated by someone who drinks endless tea. The room has a lovely balcony and you could see the see from one side - lovely to sit out on and wind down in the evening with your cuppa while listening to the waves of the sea 😁. While there, I had plenty of drinks and particularly liked the French Martinis which were well made. The food is very fairly priced for the high quality and generous portions. I got breakfast included as part of my stay, which given the quality of the room made it seem like I got a real bargain. There was ample and free parking just outside the hotel and it is ideally located for a lovely stroll along the beach front or for a meandering walk into town. This boutique hotel, is everything you want to have a relaxing break away.

A friend and I visited Sunday morning for breakfast (by default as our usual cafe was being decorated!!!). We shall now be regulars here! Top marks for the best gluten free breakfast!!! Absolutely delicious and so lovely to be able to have the FULL breakfast gluten free (not missing sausages, toast etc). Lovely ☺️

Why is this hotel only classed as 2*. It is definitely 4* for sure. We had a lovely stay. We were greeted by friendly staff who even let us go to our room 3 hours early as it was ready. The room was large, tidy and clean with a cafetiere and a great selection of refreshments. Comfortable large bed. Tv. A nice touch were the chairs in the window. I loved the views from our room looking out to sea. There was a huge bathroom, again very clean and tidy. Downstairs, the bar was full of people and had a friendly atmosphere and all our meals were superb. The following morning (today), we were greeted by different staff but equally as friendly. The full English breakfast was very generous and tasty. The decor of the hotel is calming but my only very small criticism is that the hotel were a little more adventurous with the decor and used some funkier seating and bolder paint colours. Other than this I cannot fault anything about this hotel, lovely ambience, lovely staff, spacious rooms and excellent food. 👌

Went for breakfast. On initial walk-in, no one spoke to us. No one said hello. They just looked at us and carried on the till or bar. We were standing at the bar for quite some time. When we did ask about breakfast, they found us a table, and the waitress & young waiter who served us were REALLY good. The food was good. Kids loved the waffles, and it was reasonably price, just very unwelcoming to begin with. The dining room lacks atmosphere, but the service in the end was very good. They were good with the kids too. Adapted the fussy menu requests

Dirty glass had to asc for replacement. But I understand how owners pay minimum wage and probably don't care .

Our first meal at The Fludyers. Food was very tasty, well presented and piping hot. The service was excellent. We took advantage of the set menu offer and really enjoyed our evening out, thank you. Hoping you will consider doing similar deals.

This is the best hotel where to stay in Felixstowe! It's the perfect location not only for sleeping but also for dinner. It's a very historical hotel but perfectly renovated with rooms very comfortable, clean, quiet. It's located just in front of the seaside with a walking distance to the center of Felixstowe and at 5 minutes from the golf course. Perfect place also where to drink something.

Me and mum went here for dinner after a lovely afternoon shopping in town. Is a lovely bar and restaurant over looking the sea. Coffee was really good and piping hot. We ordered fish and chips and were very impressed. Best fish and chips have had in ages. Very nice portion size too. The bar staff and waitresses were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Went for lunch on new-year day. They were well staffed and pleasant. Food was lovely and it came very quickly considering how busy they were. Definitely will go again. Also dog friendly.

This hotel has a great bar and restaurant. Fantastic table service inside or sitting watching the sea. Lovely beers wines an spirits, and very nice hot chocolate. Very popular so you would be wise to book a table if you want food.

We had a fabulous full English breakfast on Christmas eve morning. The breakfast was delicious and the service excellent.

We only wanted two cups of black americano coffee nothing difficult or to hard to make so we waited over half an hour and nothing arrives I did chase a couple of times was told yes it’s now being made and it’s on the way but nothing , well in that half hour wait we were bought over two bowls of soup which the waiter did get annoyed when told not ours and the coffee did turn up but it was not ours , so I went inside to ask for a refund , which I got no problem I did get a bit of attitude from the coffee making person.

Popped into the Fludyers for breakfast with friends and had a lovely time. The food was tasty and the service to be commended. I enjoyed the well presented toast, made from a tasty brown bread plus the generous jam and butter. This was a really nice experience – thank you.

I had heard how good the food was at Fludyers Hotel but was not prepared for the outstanding meal we had in the amazing restaurant overlooking the sea front at Felixstowe. I ordered fish pie expecting something bland but it was fantastic. The specials menu was limited but we started with cauliflower soup which was delicious and my brother had lambs liver and bacon which he thoroughly enjoyed. The service was perfect as well. I doubt there is anywhere better locally and at a very reasonable price. Loved it!!

We really enjoyed our weekend at Fludyers Hotel with all the family, celebrating a milestone birthday. The staff were great, really going the extra mile, the rooms were lovely, very well equipped and comfortable, and the food was delicious. Sunday lunch was particularly good, both the roast beef and the vegetarian roast, and the desserts were excellent.

Ordered fish and chips and a coronation chicken sandwich, with a pjntbof Ghost Ship and a small Aspall cider. 1. The Ghost Ship was obviously the one left in the pipes overnight, so had to ask for another one - not a great start! The tops of the granary bread sandwiches were dry and almost crispy - obviously the first slice from a not very fresh loaf - I had to ask for a new top slice, which was a little better! The fish was OK, but not much flavour. Overall, for a special day out, this was not the start that we had hoped for. Would I return? No. My wife had an upset stomach about 30 minutes after we left - coincidence maybe? You decide...

We visit a couple of times a year and went for dinner last evening. The food was excellent as always but the service was extremely poor. The staff are the focal part of the hospitality trade and the staff last evening appeared to require training. They appeared to be very inexperienced and lacking in basic knowledge. This is a lovely hotel and restaurant so please train the staff so they don’t let the side down.

We come here every 3/4 months. The food has always been nothing but excellent! The fish especially so. Staff is very helpful and very friendly. We simply love going back :)

We went to our local last night with some friends who had come to stay with us We arrive at 7.00 for our booked table at 7.15 We had a long wait at the door with no acknowledgment at all from the staff We eventually got seated and placed our orders choosing to have the special advertised on the board only to be told no special left at 7.20 Having to make. Second choice and being somewhat disappointed we received our meals which were ok. But the service was appalling we were not offered further drinks or dessert and eventually went to the bar to pay I appreciate Staff shortages at present but if they are not trained and can’t do the job don’t take the bookings it was just hectic and staff were running around like headless chickens This lead us to being very embarrassed in front of our friends and will certainly vote with our feet

Stopped in after a walk. Lovely meal and bar has good choice of beer. Staff very friendly and bonus was that Sid the staffy was allowed in bar area.

Lovely location for the hotel on the seafront of Felixstowe. Couldn’t get any closer to the sea. Rooms were lovely and spacious and clean. Cleaned each day by staff. Food was amazing. Had tea one night and breakfast both mornings. Both really nice and a good selection of veggie options. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Felixstowe. It couldn’t be beaten.

Unfortunately no staff being responsive or even welcoming even though there were so many of them. Queue at the bar - one person serving and one just washing glasses - thought therefore she wasn’t old enough to serve - went back for another drink and she was then serving Sandwiches used to be served on doorstep bread - mine was medium slice loaf at best - sausages within the sandwich not great either £6.45 a pint of Blue Moon - rather shocking too

Sadly not worth the money, food was good but the service was terrible. We went for Sunday lunch and we have been several times with service each time just a bit worse each time. We went and ordered at the bar an were told there would be a 45 minute wait for food. I ordered some olives and bread to keep us going until food arrived, I was told this would come out straight away....fast foward 45 minutes later and we received olives, bread, starters and mains all at once. When we asked why we recived it all at once we were told that's the way we ordered it. On paying I queried why we received our food all at once, the response was sorry....a lot of food was wasted and therefore not worth the money. Shame could be really good.

Stayed in the Mews apartment and it was clean and very nicely furnished and maintained. Would highly recommend breakfast on the front terrace in glorious weather

Comfortable inside seats,and lovely outside seats overlooking sea. We had Sunday lunch I had pork which was a little dry, my son had the beef which he said was ok but again a little chewy. The desserts were fantastic and service good.

The meal, the service, the setting were all excellent. However inappropriate, “drum and base” I believe it’s called, was playing in the restaurant, silence would have been much better if they do not have more appropriate music for Sunday lunchtime.

This place is positioned right on the Felixstowe sea front (up the the posh end dontcha know?) and serves up excellent food in lovely surroundings. The roast beef Sunday lunch was perfect and the Chocolate Baileys Bread & Butter pudding was pretty spectacular.
