The Galleon Fish & Chips in Conwy

Poor. Service at counter & you pick up in cardboard box & bring to your table yourself. Ketchup sachets 20p each. Ordered plaice. Frozen & in breadcrumbs - not fully cooked when served - cold in middle. Avoid.

This place is amazing, the best fish and chips I have had in a long time, staff were brilliant and the service was brilliant and quick, fully recommend if your going for a day out to conwy

Surprised by the recent reviews, always been spot on. We called in today and what a lovely lunch. Staff were super friendly. Ordered our lunch and collected as no table service which I understand in October. Fish, chips and mushy peas, cooked fresh and absolutely fantastic. Lovely white fish with a non greasy batter. We absolutely love this place.

Stopped here on a trip to Conway Castle. Was super busy but the staff were accommodating and friendly. Service not the tickets and the prices aren’t cheap. 40p for sauce packs is kind of ridiculous for Jen everyone else is giving them away for free. Also no cleaning staff means the bins get overflowed and tables are constantly dirty.

I haven't been here for many years, it's probably had numerous owners since. It used to be quite a smart fish restaurant with cutlery, nice crockery, pots of tea and the like, on the corner of the High Street with a great view of the Castle. It still has a great view of the the Castle. Now you have to order at the cash desk, wait to be called and carry it to your table. It's presented in pressed cardboard boxes, accompanied by wooden knives and forks. Salt and vinegar are free, any other condiments are 40p a sachet. That's 8 shillings in real money! So how was the food? The chips were flabby - cooked through but with not a hint of crispness. Why? Oil temperature too low. The fish was cooked, and tasteless. The worst part was the batter. Perfect for the grease afficionado. Under the greasy outside was a layer of creamy uncooked batter. Reason? Too short a time in the oil. Good value? Cod and chips x2, a can of drink and a bottle of water was £23.65. You decide. The best part of our visit was that we were allowed to leave our suitcases downstairs. My recommendation - go anywhere else

Used to be a fabulous place to eat fish and chips . Deteriorated massively . Served in card board boxes containing unappetising meal . Also prices have rocketed . Sad decline .

Poor service, overpriced and very small portions. Give this one a miss. The menu is limited and if you ask for anything mini then you get micro portions.

A bit underwhelmed to be honest. Not big portions, chips pale and tasteless, fish batter crispy but not much fish inside. Maybe we went on a bad day, but don't think I will pop in again anytime soon.

Dropped in on a busy afternoon after spending the morning and early afternoon exploring Conway Castle. Wasn’t disappointed with the speed or quality of the food. Would definitely recommend. The 20p cost for a packet of sauce is a bit steep is the only criticisms.

This fish and chips is just gorgeous, we travel from Hawarden to have a walk and pick up fish and chips to eat on the front . Delicious, best chip shop ever !!!!!! The pease and curry sauce also amazing. Staff alway ls pleasant .

Sadly my experience was very disappointing. Young lad behind the counter was quite rude to the customers in front of us and obviously not enjoying his job at all. The food was very poor too sadly. All our pieces of fish were overcooked and burnt. How they had the cheek to serve this rubbish I really don't know! My husband tried to cut into his and it shattered everywhere! I didn't bother to try to eat mine and my daughters were the same, they just pushed it around in disbelief. Unfortunately, an expensive inedible experience and we won't be back. How they are still open if this is what they serve is beyond me.

One person had plaice it was like a piece of breaded cardboard and the batter on fish was not good . I think a change of cooking oil is also needed !!

We didn’t have a good experience here unfortunately. Staff were rude and unhelpful. Missed an item off our order and turned her nose up when I asked to have the fish and chips separately. Very grumpy. I also asked another lady for a cloth so I could wipe the table we were sitting at down as it was dirty and I was Clearly ignored once and the second time I asked the lady looked at me like I was the biggest inconvenience to her. Waited a little while for the food but that wasn’t too much of a problem. Food was okay- chips were a little undercooked but was just so disappointed with the service, we wont be back. Plenty of other nice chippies around with better customer service. no plates or cutlery available for dining in except for 15p for a wooden fork.

We normally leave fair reviews but I am struggling to be positive. We tried the Galleon for a change, just shared a fish and chips as we don't do big meals lunchtime. We have been to the other town chippies and were happy. The chips, I know the potatoes are new were undercooked and a bit greasy. But the biggest disappointment was the fish, hardly any in a lump of undercooked batter, taken off fish it wasn't cooked on inside. Needless to say very disappointed after our other experiences in Conwy. Shop was quiet and young person was eating in the front of the shop serving area which doesn't look good. Maybe we called on a bad day but you need to sort out what you are selling.

Mouthwatering local chippy with a range of daily catch (cod, haddock and salmon). Patience in the long queue pays off as me and my 3-year old enjoyed every little bit of our meal. Thank you!

What can i say? These were honestly the nicest fish and chips i have ever eaten, i was not disappointed. Me and my boyfriend are big on fish and chips and i must say there was no crumbs left afterwards. After the coming to Conwy on the sight seeing bus and going on a boat ride from the harbour it was exactly what we needed. The price was fair, however i would of happily paid more. Delicious, i would recommend this place to anyone.

Visited here on Tuesday 29th it was a lovely day so had a stroll decided to stop for lunch both had haddock and chips with mushy peas these were the best we have had in years so fresh flavoursome perfect peas we are now locked down again but as soon as we can move we will be back

Fantastic freshly cooked haddock! Always like to try the local fish and chips when away and this is one of the best - so good we had to go back for a second visit during our week stay! Looking forward to our next trip to Conwy!

We came here for lunch after a walk in Llanfairfechan. This chippy is simply the best one around they serve the freshest lightly battered fish the chips arnt greasy and the mushy peas are to die for. Highly recommend coming here

Little 1 night break with my hubby and decided to have fish and chips by the water . Amazing cod and chips . So good I’m going to drive the hour and bring my children for some too !

Chose this fish and chip shop from reading the previous reviews. I wasn’t disappointed. Not currently open for eating in and is takeaway only. Good covid-19 provisions in place with a one way system. Friendly staff. Great value too!Freshly cooked fish to order (it seemed) and we’re happy to split orders in to smaller portions for smaller appetites. Close enough to the sea front to walk and have them ‘al-fresco’. A lovely spot in the sunshine.

Visiting for a couple of nights and decided to try here after excellent reviews. Large queue but moved relatively fast, staff were helpful and incredibly friendly and the food was fantastic. Fresh, good portions and light. Definitely worth a visit and worth waiting for.

This has got to be one of the best fish & chip shops in north wales. Never disappoints and lovely friendly staff. A must visit if in Conwy

We bought a range of items as a big family group- it was all cooked within about 10 minutes of ordering which was brilliant considering our order was pretty big! Everyone enjoyed their food from age 1 to age 70! We had fish, chicken nuggets, chicken burger and the chips! wow the chips are just the best chip shop chips ever!!!! I dont even like chip shop chips and I kept stealing the kids!! Everyone ate up all their food! Really delicious- would highly recommened this chip shop if you are in the area on holiday or a local!! Will definitely come back again!!Also - even though the restaurant isn't open at the moment with Covid- theres lots of picnic tables on the front just a few minutes walk away!

Really impressed with the fish and chips I bought from here. The fish was nice and light, it wasn't greasy at all. Staff helpful and attentive. Really good quality food and value for money. 😊

3 star review.Went here tonight and bought 3 meals.None had salt and vinegar and I was given gravy for my fish and chips NOT the curry that I ordered. I have worked at chippies and can tell that they use the cheapest gravy available too, it tasted vile.Portions are tiny too, check out the picture of the £2 chip portion.On the plus side the staff were pleasant to deal with. Overall we won’t return, shame.

Tucked away next to the town walls on the way out of Conwy. Ate inside service a bit slow but that's ok as you can get bottled Bud, fish in nice crispy batter and chips done done to perfection

Food was very good, with excellent, fast service. The batter on the fish was really light and held it's structure well whilst the fish was being cut.I appreciate that a relaxed atmosphere is excellent, and imperative for staff to thrive, however, using a mobile phone in plain view of your customers is a big no no for me, which is why I've only given 4 stars.They also didn't come over to us to ask how everything was until we'd finished eating.I would still recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I visited here, quite by chance, during a drive through Conwy on a recent vacation. There are only a few things I judge a chip shop on: light batter, crisply chips, mushy peas, and curry sauce. The Galleon scored well on all fronts. The fish was very lightly battered and fried to a perfect crunch. The chips were generous and well cooked, and especially tasty with a bit of the curry sauce over them. When you dream of fish and chips, The Galleon is what you dream of.

My husband and I went into here for a fish tea. We sat downstairs and there are more tables upstairs as well as the very clean toilets. You get a large cod, chips, a slice of bread and butter and either a hot or cold drink for £8.95. My husband got a pot of tea and another pot of hot water and I got a cold drink. The fish and chips were delicious and the staff are very pleasant and asked us if everything was alright. This place is well worth a visit if you go to Conwy.

Lame attempt at this cafe, won’t call it a restaurant, for what should be straight forward food in Britain.Chips that are just scraps or potato shavings, fish that’s ok but just that ... ok, bread and butter is really cheap bread and margarine , below average food for above average price. Don’t bother .

Visited today after so many positive reviews . Previous positive reviewers must be easily pleased as it was terrible !! Dry , pale and cold chips and fish was very mediocre. Mushy peas were lovely but certainly overpriced for the rest of the poor effort of a meal !! Definitely AVOID unless you like poor quality fare!

We enjoyed lots of fish and chips during our travels to Wales. The Galleon provided some really good service upstairs , fish was well cooked and the chips crisp - portion size generous. Loos were clean and prices fair - will return.

We arrived at 2pm after a tiresome 4 hour drive and sadly the restaurant had just closed. Having eaten here several times before, we were looking forward to their excellent fish and chips accompanied by a lovely pot of tea. Not all was lost as the takeaway was still open so we were still able to get beautiful, freshly cooked cod and chips - absolutely perfect and delicious. Shame about the tea but we'll be back. Some of the best fish & chips I've had in a long time!

fish n chips although a national institute has become bland and often overpriced. NOT HERE! proper cooked fish n chips ,not greasy ,plenty of chips , lovely fish atg a decent price. excellent service,well located, like fish n chips visit here.

I rarely give a 5 star rating but this plaice gets it for sure! We ate in the restaurant and the service was quick, the food was excellent and those mushy peas were the best i have ever tasted. Fish cooked to perfection. Great portion sizes. Well done

Fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter plus cold or hot drink x 2 for £20.40. And no better battered cod will you get anywhere. Nice service too, well worth the decent tip.

My wife & I were entertaining an American couple and it was mid-afternoon. We were taking them back to their hotel and they suggested we eat there. So I asked them what sort f food they liked and they said sea-food. I said you can't get better fish than at the cost and chose Galleon because it looked nice and bright. There are lots of tables upstairs and we found one to suit us. Unfortunately service was a long time coming, so I had to go downstairs and prompt them. They came very quickly and so did our order. The fish and chips were excellent, the fish with light crispy batter, the cod flaky, chips crisp and the homemade mushy peas just right. Even the tea was great because they did not skimp on tea bags. Our American friends were delighted and we had a lovely meal.

We visited the Galleon Fish & Chip café on the first day of our visit and despite the fact that it was very busy we were served very quickly by and extremely helpful and cheerful waitress. The fish and chips are absolutely fantastic and piping hot. This is an understandably a very popular Fish & Chip café and is highly recommended.

Real fish and chips, a must try is the mushy peas home made every day, I swear if I close my eyes I can still taste them. The fish had a thin layer of batter so you get a lovely crispy skin and a properly cooked large piece of cod, staff are fantastic, considering how busy they are everything is done with a smile and proper manners.

It was nice to find this place on the corner. We found a table upstairs, our order was taken and a fine portion of fish and chips was duly served with plenty of tea. The fish was cooked well, and the meal was hearty and tasty. Recommended.

We did eat-in. Fish was OK but chips weren't good. Lots of small hard chips were in my plate. Scampi wasn't bad.

Visited today food was awfull . Chips very dry and tasted like been warmed up . Although staff very nice . However told staff chips etc where awfull on payment she did not apologise . Wud not visit again waste of money .

Proper fish and and chips with mushy peas. We visited twice during our stay in the area. The portions are great and the food is lovely. Highly recommended.

Puedes comer en el restaurante- vale más caro, o pedir la comida para llevar que es lo que hicimos mi pareja y yo. Yo me pedí una hamburguesa de carne, ahí no te ponen ni lechuga ni tomate, solo la carne con mayonesa y ketchup ( cada salsa 0.20 libras) me costó 2.90 libras, estaba rica y mi pareja pidió fish and chips , el pescado que es cod ( bacalao) era grande y sabroso , le costó 4.25libras y las patatas eran recien hechas le costaron 2 libras. El cocinero y las camareras muy agradables. Además bajando la calle está el puerto, con lo que se come muy a gusto. Si vuelvo a Conwy, volveré sin dudarlo.

I visited this restaurant for a take away last Tuesday. It was a beautiful day and after a five mile walk up and down the coastline, we chose this place because I had previously visited many years ago. I ordered two small cod, chips and peas. It was not small at all; It was huge. It was the best food from a traditional fish and chips shop I’ve had. The service was a little hectic but I can forgive that for incredible food.

2 fish and chips , 3 sausage and chip , 5 cans of pop . Chips were fine, fish was nice , kids liked the sausages . Service was quick and efficient . They had proper tomato sauce sachets ie Heinz . Tad expensive but expected in a summer day out town . We bobbed down to the quay to eat ours

Today We had the cod and chips and mushy peas! First time ever here as I was visiting from Toronto Canada!! It was absolutely delicious!! The fish was flaky and meaty and cooked perfectly with a non greasy batter!! Yum yum! And you can even get a wine and beer to go with it!!! To my fellow Canadians out there and anyone else reading this., - next time you are in Conwy, make sure you get your fish and chips there!!! X

Had lunch here on a day out. I've been before. This is an excellent fish bar. Staff are friendly, it is all cooked from scratch and portion sizes are decent. Tea comes with a hot water jug, as it should. If you want to sit down this is highly recommended.

Staff were very accommodating considering there were 10 of us! We sat upstairs and were served promptly. Everyone enjoyed their food. The cod and haddock were nice in good crunchy batter. Steak pie was also tasty. Chips could have done with frying a little longer.

There's nothing special about the ambiance. It is a fish & chip restaurant after all, but their Haddock and Chips are gorgeous. The batter was so light and the fish beautifully cooked and fresh. We didn't opt for the large portion as the standard was plenty.

One of the best fish and chip meals I've ever had. Fish was flaky and crisp, and the mushy peas were incredible. The dining room upstairs gets quite busy (seems to be popular with locals and tourists alike) but tables do turn over rather fast. Service is swift and friendly.

Best fish we have eaten and we've had a few from whitbys supposedly award winning chips shops. The Galleons fish had delicate flavoursome batter, i had Cod and it melted in my mouth! The chips were good too and the homemade mushy peas were great. My 2 kids had chicken nuggets which looked fresh and crispy. They ate the lot! Price wise we expected to pay more to dine in but it was approx £6 each for the kids incl drinks and mine was 8.95 incl a soft drink/tea and bread and butter. The upstairs was light and inviting and a nice view of Colwyn Castle up the road. There was a slight issue, not a complain, but the toilet hand basin seemed to have a broken tap. I forgot to mention it to the staff asi was too busy thanking them for fantastic fish!

My fish and chips were lovely, my husband had a cheese burger which he assures me was tasty. Good sized portions and loved having a pot of hot water to top up tea pot. The service friendly and staff polite and attentive.

Fish n chips were nice no grease, decent size fish and plenty of mushy peas!! Tea came with extra water so plenty to help wash down the meal. Service was prompt and friendly. Downstairs seating is a little cramped with waitresses constantly going up and down the stairs to the upstairs dining room. Overall good quality meal at a reasonable price.

Ordered fish and chips for two adults but one portion would have been sufficient. Quite expensive and wish we had not wasted the money on two portions. Why not make portions smaller and lower prices slightly. Felt bad about wasting food especially in this day and age.

Absolutely beautiful fish and chips enjoyed in the restaurant. My son had the burger which was huge and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The mushy peas were delicious too. When we're next in lovely Conwy we know where we'll be going for lunch! Highly recommended.

We visited the takeaway restaurant on a sunny lunchtime just before the Easter holidays.

We were hot and rather tired after a long walk and we were thoroughly revived here. The fish and chips are always delicious here. The children had generous size portions which were demolished! The staff were very welcoming and friendly . We also like the the peas there as they are so tasty. Even though it was very busy, the staff were patient and friendly. We shall be back !

We came in and the food came quick and they were big portions which was positive but the service just wasn’t great at all and with a fish as chips and drink being £8.95 you’d expect it to be. The servers smashed glasses forgot things we ordered and told us there were no tables except one downstairs and then a couple minutes later two other families of 4 sat upstairs with no reservation. This fish was covered in oil and the chips pale. There are much better chip shops in Conway I’d avoid going here again.

We visited twice - yes little piglets! However it was so good the first time we had to go back for a second helping. The cod is next level! I've never tasted anything as fresh and the batter so light and crispy it melted in your mouth. I didn't thing the second visit would be as good as the first but it compared.

We were in Conwy for the day and The Galleon caught our eye. In we went, fantastic friendly staff made us feel very welcome, and we soon ordered fish and chips, which were cooked to order, so arrived piping hot.

Great chips and mushy peas, fish very nice and well cooked but could have been a bit thicker. My wife doesn't eat the batter and only had about 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick fish. Large piece but could have been a bit thicker. Other than that, well cooked and presented and fish cooked to perfection.

Just as one sees in the pictures. For approx 7 pounds one can enjoy a tasty fillet of codfish with chips, with children menus for less than 5. The waiters are helpful and kind, the place is clean, and the service is quick. Perfect to have a local taste before continuing your visit of Conwy.

The Galleon Fish and Chips is hands down the best place to get fish and chips in Conwy. Our waitress, Danielle, was fantastic. She was extremely friendly and efficient. She was definitely one of the nicest waitresses we have had. The food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. The tea was very good as well. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling through Conwy.

Visited today after reading the reviews on here and wished we had not bothered. The food was poor chips luke warm and mostly made up of ends of potato with no taste. Sign outside saying homemade peas tempted me to try but again tasteless and no better than tinned mushy peas. Fish thin and limp and to top it off fish and chips for two cost pennies short of £22 and we were in and out of cafe in less than 25 minutes. My advice would he give this place a wide berth there are many quaint better places to eat in Conwy.

Visited conwy on our way home from Pertmeirion. Conwy is a beautiful place, especially when the Sun shines. We spotted the Galleon restaurant which boosted " probably the the best fish and chips you've ever had" So in we went and ordered "the special" at £ 8.95. Large cod, Chips bread and butter, coffee or tea. Absolutely delicious! Big portions AND a lot of coffee each. Great value for money and possibly the best fish and chips I've ever had! 5 stars*****

We ate here 24th March inside. The fish batter was thin, light and crispy. The chips were cooked to perfection. This was simply the best fish and chips we have ever had.

Spotlessly clean, attentive staff, good choice and fabulous food at a good price. Not a lot more to ask for.

for non irish folk that means it bloody brilliant! Ay it were great nice friendly staff n all good fish and chips aint soggy at all. Dont listen to the mingin 1,2 and 3 star reviews they talk up the pigs hole.

Pedi o famoso Fish (codfish) and Chips britânico, que saiu bem rápido e foi entregue bem quentinho, o peixe estava super fresco e sua carne bem branquinha, porém a casquinha estava um pouco gordurosa e com pouco sal, e a batata estava normal, não estava crocante. Ouvi falar muito bem desse restaurante, estava cheio e as pessoas pareciam estar bem satisfeitas. O atendimento é muito bom e os pratos não são caros, eu recomendo!

We popped in here whilst out and about in Conwy but we wish we'd have looked elsewhere now.
