Fisherman's Fish & Chip Shop in Conwy

The food was good, but the service was a bit hit-and-miss. One waitress looked like she’d had enough, while the other was polite and helpful. The latte wasn’t great—clearly from a packet. Overall, decent food, but some things could be improved.

I've been coming to this fish and chip shop for well over 20 years and 100's of visits, every time has been fantastic. Except for the 9th March which was my 55th birthday, wife went in with our order, got back to our home to find an utter mess of fish and chips and a chip barm. Those chips were by far the very worse chips I've ever had, like double fried scraps. Absolutely awful. I was tempted to go back and return the whole lot because it was that bad. So much for a decent birthday fish and chips and one of my favourite places. Take note of the quality of chips you guys are serving! It's not acceptable for scraps really and you can see what you're putting in the trays. My wife binned hers without touching it. Even my dog wouldn't eat. I'll be popping in soon to tell them this. Just to add, only the week before, the fish and chips were perfect and the week before that and so on.

One of the best Fish and chips I’ve ever had in Wales! Coming from Canada, I found this to be the best spot! Loved it! Fresh taste!! Always hot and tasty!!

Very rude staff. Wouldn't return here ever again.

The man who works here was so rude to us. We entered to view if there was available seating and he said there was no room rather abruptly. As I explained there seemed to be lots of tables upstaids he aggressively said that he said they were closed (which he didn't and they wasnt as there were many people ordering and dining). From the service alone I would never come back here and we visit Conwy quote regularly. I would never recommend this please. I suggest the bald man with the beard takes a course in customer serivice or basic etiquette.

Put it this way we live in Staffordshire and we make trips to this chippy. If that doesn't tell you it's amazing then I don't know what will. The staff are brilliant and the food is top-notch. We legit drive 2 hours to eat here. Best chippy around in my book :) if you don't go here you are missing out on what fish and chips are. make the trip and enjoy and why not stay over in as well as Conwy has a lot to offer.

We came here and ordered fish and chips, have to say this was some of the worst fish and chips I have had. The chips were hard and looked like they were over cooked, the fish was black on the underside and was soggy rather than being crispy. For what we paid we expected better food. We didn't really eat much of the food and went to another place to get more food. Waste of money!

Excellent food and smiley friendly staff

We had the Lite Bite which turned out to be more than adequate! Lovely white skinless fish in very thin & light batter which was not at all greasy. Chips freshly fried. Service friendly and efficient. Two pots of tea and just over £23 the lot. What more could one possibly want!

Came for some lunch after visiting Conwy Castle. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from the very start. Me and my partner sat upstairs in the restaurant area and we both ordered battered sausage, chips with curry sauce. The service was swift which was great, especially if you’re on the go. The chips and curry sauce were tasty, however, we found our battered sausages to be a little bit overcooked. We loved the fish plates by the way! Other than that we had a lovely experience and would come back if we weren’t just visiting on holiday!

Brilliant fish/chip shop in Conwy. We all had the light fish lunch. Go if in the area, and then buy some Conwy mussels from the quayside.

They do gluten free fish which is fried separately from all other meat products thus no contamination making gluten free fish and chips a halal option in Llandudno.

Excellent gluten free fish and chips. The haddock was fresh tasting and the batter crisp and light. The surroundings are a bit shabby but the food prep areas and tables looked clean.

The fish (haddock) was very good. Nice light and crispy batter. Perfect amount of salt and vinegar. Scampi was also very good. Food was fresh but service was quick. Would have liked a few more chips but maybe I'm just greedy....

Excellent place, you can stop inside or take away. A stone's throw from the port there are plenty of tables you should be able to stop in... weather permitting. Good quality and normal prices.

Very reasonably priced, staff are great and the food is banging. Always clean and tidy. Would definitely recommend.

I ordered the Cod, Large Chips, and Mushy Peas with Salt and Vinegar. The food was phenomenal, the service was amazing, and the restaurant was so welcoming.

Very greasy, fish undercooked and oily, very small portions (maybe 30 chips if you’re lucky) and very overpriced.

Having read the reviews we choose this place over the others in town. Disappointed would be an understatement. Greasy fish and chips. Over cooked chips which were soggy and lots of scrag ends. Fish itself was good but the batter was very greasy. A long way from best in Wales, let alone the UK.

AMAZING! Ranks up there with the Anstruther's Fish and Chips in Scotland. Absolutely highly recommend the fish and chips. Also got a meat and potato pie that was good. My husband said the mushy peas were great.

Gluten free chips were cooked in separate fryer. So lovely and fresh. Good portion size and price too.

Good food for a decent price, and very quick. Can't complain. Had to take away at 2:45 pm, but we were doing that anyway.

Best chips I’ve had in a long time. I always like to get a portion of chips and stroll along the sea front whenever I’m on the coast. Usually they are rather disappointing, not here though. Great tasting chips, served in a take away box ( which is useful to keep the seagulls at bay). Call in, you won’t be disappointed.

Haddock and Chips, Scampi and Chips and a platter with smaller code, few scampi and calamari + chips. Have rarely had such good fish and chips, the batter very light and tasty; the fish, scampi, etc fantastic. Service was great without being intrusive. Cannot recommend highly enough.

For the first time in a long time I had nice fish and chips near to the sea! I am always disappointed when visiting chip shops near the coast and wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. The fish tasted fresh and was well cooked, the calamari was very tasty and the scampi was lovely. The kids had nuggets and fish cake which they both devoured (Unusual for my 2) and the wife thoroughly enjoyed her fish special.

First time visiting here... and the last. Three of us stood outside waiting for 25 minutes for pie/fish and chips. When the food FINALLY arrived the chips were terrible!!! They were soaked in oil, chip scraps, hard and crunchy. The pie was dry with very little filling. I pay £4.00 less for better Fish & Chips back home and they're way better. Disappointing.

Food was tasty, warm, freshly prepared. While eating downstairs, been told I cannot be given a normal fork as I had takeaway option (restaurant was full at time of order) ... Using wooden cutlery to eat fish was a real challenge due to its size and shape (please see picture). I am just wondering why staff did not offer to take a refund able deposit in cash for cutlery and letting customers enjoy their meal? Unfortunately, will not be back again.

I’ve been to quite a few fish and chips shops round the coasts of England, including no1 coma which is owned by a TV chef Galton Blackiston The fish and chips from here was way better than no 1 coma Fish is gorgeous, good size flakes on the fish with chips were very crispy and full of flavour with a very fluffy centre inside. I had to wait a bit for the fish, but every fish and chip shop you have to wait for. The atmosphere was good and also very helpful with giving some advice about our local seagulls if I come Come to Conwy again I will definitely go there again

Had a fantastic time with a large group at short notice. Great quality food, kids loved it, and they were able to cater for a coeliac in our party with great gluten free options.

Food was just okay, fish wasn't the biggest or tastiest. Chips were a but soggy, again just okay nothing to write home about.

The store has a front door and a back door. We saw the sign from the beach and entered the back door of the store, and then ordered food. We ordered Cod fish and French fries, which tasted good. I believe it will be relatively comfortable to enter and dine at the front entrance of the store.

This used to be a must visit when visiting my parents in Wales, but sadly it's no longer what it used to be, asked for chips and were served thescraps from the bottom of the barrel not an actual chip in sight and paid nearly £4 for the privilege, would not recommend unless you want greasy ends. Next time for the first time in nearly 40years I'll try the one across across the road, 10/10 though for disappointment 😞

Great for lunch after visiting Conwy Castle. Not much on atmosphere, pretty hot, small room, limited seating for about 6 people along a narrow shelf serving as a table along the wall; the upstairs restaurant is totally separate from the chippy, so if you want the fish and chips, wait it out in the main entry if you have people in front of you, but generally it goes pretty quick. It may be a bit of a wait if it's during a rush, but the fish and chips are excellent! There is a walk-up order window on the street, so, take advantage! Take it right down hill around the corner through the gate to the harbour and pull up a bench or some beach, it'll take that long for it to cool off enough to eat! Don't forget to buy some drinks too!

Top rate homemade fish, chips and mushy peas! Enjoy this meal in the peaceful, themed and immaculate little 2 level seating area behind the takeaway front section of the premises. Friendly staff, generous portions and a quaint little hidden restaurant.

We had a good experience previously from the takeout on the marina side. The prices had been reasonable and food came quick and tasted great. However, on our return we decided to dine in as it was torrential rain. We were greeted by grumpy staff. The cost of the meals to dine in were exponentially more expensive and the portion sizes of chips were rubbish. They did give us more chips after we asked but it was embarrassing. We asked for water for the table, crayons and something for the baby to eat while we waited and we didn't recieve any of it. The bill was £50 for 2 adult fish and chips and 1 child sausage and chips and another portion of chips. We had cans of pop as well. Won't be returning as there looked to be a lot of other fantastic options around.

Went there today chips were disgusting warm ups hardly any cod in the batter a staff member rude she said wait outside will never go there again my brother and his wife had just arrived from Australia and thought this was going to be a nice fish and chips shop felt so bad for them will never go there again

The most revolting fish & chips I have ever had. More oil than fish. Unsalted chips. Not worth half of what I paid for it. It was like eating a piece of cardboard that's drenched in cooking oil.

Excellent fish and chips, which is made fresh in front of you right after you order. The tasted like it was just caught on the day as well. Expect a wait because it’s fresh, but it’s definitely worthwhile.

Went on a rather busy day. They advertise they can accommodate gluten free. Waited in the queue for 20-25 minutes to be told they can’t do gluten free because they don’t have the ingredients (I think it was because they were busy). Had to ask if they do gluten free chips because others in my party had already ordered and even that felt like a big ask. Wouldn’t go back.

I visited this chippy whilst on holiday in the area after posing on a Facebook group looking for advice on where to get good fish and chips. The person who replied to my post said that this was by far the best chippy in Conwy and I have to say that they were absolutely right. I visited three times during my visit and I can honestly say I’ve never had fish and chips this good. They really must be the best fish and chip shop in the United Kingdom, and possibly the world. Conwy is lovely but I would come back just for this delicious treat.

I hate these kind of places, they sell sub-standard garbage to tourist because they know they are day trippers. The owners aren't particularly bothered about repeat custom so they churn out this disgusting barely edible food - SAVE YOUR MONEY !!! Everybody seemed happy enough and the service was pretty decent apart from when asking for a couple of forks, the young assistant picked them up by the fork end rather than the handles, which seemed a little unhygienic and unnecessary - But it was the food that stole the show and for all the wrong reasons: The chips were dry and yet a bit greasy at the same time and nowhere near enough salt n vinegar as all customers are asked to wait outdoors, so you can't participate in that particular ritual. The fish was flat and completely tasteless, it was awful with no meaty texture , it was flat, tasteless and flakey and the batter was dense in fat and zero in flavour, the peas tasted like green water - The Vimto was great but that's in a can and from Manchester, so that's what I'd expect. We have chippies in Manchester 80 miles away from that coast that taste ten times better with chunky meaty flavoursome fish, so it absolutely baffles me how a chippy that practically sits on the banks of the fishing trade where trawlers are moored, can get such a simple dish so horribly wrong - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY GO TO MCDONALDS OR KFC AT LEAST YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WILL GET AND SPEND HALF OF THE £12 ON THIS DISSAPOINTING EFFORT.

I visited this chip shop on a day out with my granddaughter. It was a very wet cold day but we were determined to have fish & chips whilst on our visit. We found this lovely fish & chips shop in the old part of town and were drawn in by the lovely smell. The girls serving were very pleasant and luckily, there was a little café upstairs and a small bar in the shop to eat our food comfortably out of the rain. The fish was large and very tasty and the chips were nice and chunky, not the skinny fries you tend to get in a lot of places. I also had the best cup of tea to go with it. All together, a very enjoyable experience.

we’re passing by and usually wouldn’t bat an eye and continue on to Llandudno junction to eat in the locally renowned enochs, however after a long day of hiking we’re tempted by the smell of fisherman’s Conwy. The mushy peas were moist and fish was cooked to perfection, and a big thank you to “Evee” the hostess for being a great help and a fabulous waitress! Got Fish only. Costed me around 6 pounds. The fish was really delicious and I can say it is straight out of water. The batter was crunchy and tasted wonderful. The quantity was also worth the cost. The ambience was very vintage and gave me a vibe of eating inside a fisherman house.

We have tried all the fish and chip restaurants in Conwy and this is by far our favourite. Superb chips good to excellent fish, restaurant rooms upstairs which may or may not be staffed (depending on the day) and friendly banter from the fryers.

When we went there, it was off season and there were few people in the store, but the service attitude was still very poor. The blonde cashier was very impatient and the taste was also very average, no different from other stores in the UK. I suggest everyone go to another store.

Food: the products were delicious but my piece of cod was fried badly! My companions' one was fried better. Chips not bad. I took regular cod and chips with zero coke, 11.05 pounds (today around 13 euros); good value for money. Service: fast but not very helpful in giving glasses and forks. Atmosphere: very easy, simple and for a quick lunch.

Best chips I have had in years. We stopped in for a large chips for a little snack on the way home. It was not massive but enough to stave off starvation for 2 adults and 2 kids. Quality chips served quickly.

Fast and efficient service sensibly priced. Good portions and good taste. Recommended if you're near by.

Possibly the worst chips I've ever had. I think they must have been refried leftovers as they were virtually inedible. The fish was nice, but the batter was soggy. Maybe we were unlucky as it was a quiet time because of the poor weather, but it wasn't cheap and they should have just closed up rather than charging us a small fortune for this rubbish.

Look, the foods lovely and the gravy is so nice, however when eating in I feel like the price is almost doubled and becomes super expensive. I think it's the most expensive chippy I've ever been in. E.g, £2.50 for a small can of pop. I understand things are getting more expensive not just for business but for customers as well but I feel charging that for a £0.25p can is a little extreme.

Excellent place to grab dinner - the food was really tasty and freshly cooked, the place was full of friendly people who told me where to queue and the staff were really friendly and seemed to enjoy working there which is always a good sign! Great value food too. Thank you!

Visiting family on Conwy and popped in here for tea. V friendly staff - food was fresh cooked & came within 5 mins. Fish was great - good portion and great tasting. Chips excellent & of course great with a bread roll. Can of Vimto and it was perfect !
