The Funny Onion in East Riding of Yorkshire

Had pre booked for a table of four as spending the weekend in Bridlington. On the night of our booking we turned up all looking forward to our meal to find that the restaurant was closed. The staff had our telephone number so why didn’t someone call to tell us it wouldn’t be open. We then had to spend another hour finding somewhere to eat…..they don’t deserve the business if the can treat their customers like this. Apparently we were told happens often so all please be aware if you are willing to chance this restaurant

Party of 18 asked to pre order food day before this was done.On arrival young lady took drinks order that went well then downhill from there.Same young lady came to check our order was in but 16 minutes later came back to take all orders again.We all placed our orders again and after an hour meals started to come out in dribs and drabs when the last person got her meal most of the others had finished.The food was poor quality for the price charged will not eat there again.

Booked on line no problem for our party of 11 people for our 50th Birthday. We did email to change the time from 6 to 7pm and again got a confirmation email. We arrive on time to an almost empty restaurant to be finally told, once we had been acknolwleged, that we did not have a table booked. We produced the email that the man behind the bar refused to look at. He then went on to say that our booking was at 6pm and we were an hour late. We again showed the confirmation email saying it had been changed to 7pm. The man just said that the email was not from him and refused to look at it. It was certainly from someone at funny onion. We were told we could wait an hour and half for a table if we wanted. The place was empty, i can understand why now the staff attitude was disgusting. This was meant to be a special birthday meal with family and friends and it was spoit by this place and they couldn't care less. I would not eat here if it was free. Having spoken to other local people it would seem we are no on our own, the food and service is very poor. Do not waste your money here they do not deserve or appreciate your custom. Much better places in Bridlington.

Food was well presented and tasty, and good value. The pie wasn't as good as the roast lunch. Mum had the small roast and it was still plenty for her. Owner and staff all wonderful and attentive

We’ve visited the funny onion the past two weekends and have not been disappointed. Very friendly staff, very clean and the food is amazing. Would definitely recommend.

The Funny Onion is back open and under new management. Our Sunday lunches were absolutely delicious...we had roast beef, which was melt in the mouth tender, the yorkshire puds were superb, lot s of veg...mange tout perfectly cooked, (still al dente), as were the roasted parsnips and carrots, red cabbage also. Mashed and roast potatoes...and home made stuffing which really was excellent. Plenty of tasty real gravy ....really top notch. Beer and wine first class , good prices on food and wine.. There is a lovely atmosphere in the place now, well chosen music track and the staff and service friendly, efficient and professional. The chef is a young man with great skill, so glad it is only a short walk from us...brilliant!!

We went here just before the storm hit. It was very quiet, unusually for a Friday lunchtime. The service was really good, Lauren did a great job of making us feel welcome and well looked after. The food was good, everything was cooked well. The burgers were tasty and the steak and ale pie was nice and hearty. We would go again thank you!

Shocking service. Booked this restaurant on Thursday 3rd February. Got an email response confirming our booking. Drives an hour from our home to find it closed. No explanation; no email.

Booked online this afternoon with my boyfriend for tonight after not being to funny onion/wild bills in over a year, got the confirmation email stating we MUST arrive on time… so we arrived 10 minutes early, to find a small sign on the door saying only open Thursday/Friday. It would have been nice to have received a phone call to explain or even had the booking declined. Not happy as this is one of my favourite places to eat in Bridlington and have eaten here many MANY times…. Very disappointing.

Booked a table five days ago in advance. Got confirmation via email. Went tonight note on day saying closed. No messsge. Nothing. How rude ! Things happen but no communication inexcusable!

Food was horrendous ribs cremated 2 orders food was forgotten even though bar has us pre order food before arrival avoid at all costs.

We tried to get into this pub on a Saturday, but a sign outside suggested it was fully booked, so we decided to reserve a table for the following evening. It's an easy booking process online. What a surprise and shame that we were the only ones dining here on a Sunday evening. Service was friendly and quick. Burgers were great and filling!

We had been on Saturday and the meal was great so we thought we would return with some friends again tonight ... BIG MISTAKE. Bearing in mind the restaurant was not busy, the food was over an hour in coming to the table, other tables had their whole meal served first when they had ordered after us! The service was abrupt and food was mediocre to say the least - chunky chips were greasy, Chicken dried up and BBQ sauce lacking in flavour. Onion rings arrived late and were eventually removed from our bill as we complained. There were no basic condiments on the table. When we were asked how our meal was we said it was ok when it finally arrived - we then got a sob story from the "Supervisor" to say there was only one chef working and she had 2 new staff to deal with. She said she was working her notice and basically she didn't care any more about the job and slated the management - not a good advert for the business and certainly not professional in front of paying customers. We regularly suggest The Funny Onion to our Guest House customers, but after tonight's experience sadly will not be recommending in the future

A week ago we visited the Funny Onion and on entry we were told the grill was not working and therefore it would be a limited choice menu. I had the homemade teak pie, delicious, 2 had a zingy chicken dish and the 4th in our party had scampi, very generous portions and piping hot, all served by a very friendly and efficient young woman. We will be back

Visited early Saturday evening with our dog. Staff friendly and helpful. Had a lovely meal and drinks. Reasonable prices. Will be back

So booked a table for me and my family for 6pm, seated quickly but took ages for someone to get the order, finally order was given and it was around 45 minutes till the food was served to us, although 2 hungry kids aren't good...

Food was nice but service was very slow. No one checked back, gave shortage of staff as an excuse for the slow service.

Advertised as dog friendly so booked a table online. Booking page required me to state number of people, date and time only, did not ask if we had a dog. When we got there and sat down we were asked if we'd mentioned the dog while booking so i said no, we hadnt been asked and their website made a thing of being dog friendly so had assumed it was ok. Turns out dogs are only allowed in one small room. The only option offered was for us to leave the dog in that room and be separated from her. Girl was very apologetic and said they would be updating website but too late for us. We got up and left. Won't be reccommending.

We ate at the funny onion last night as we were staying overnight. It was quite probably one of the greatest meals I have ever in my life. Between us we had three different types of chicken and it was all excellent, the brisket was cooked to perfection, and the ribs were simply amazing. We genuinely don’t have enough good things to say, if we didn’t live 200 miles away we’d eat here every week. The service was absolutely faultless, and pleased my two fussy eaters with their kindness!

Me and my husband ate here on a Friday night in the Dog friendly room. The food was lovely. I had the Cajun Chicken breast and fries and it was so succulent and tasty. Good service and value for money.

Well we all enjoyed our sunday lunch at The Funny Onion met with a welcome smile by the very friendly staff , shown to our table drinks order taken then about a 15 minute wait for the food to arrive all of which was well cooked and very tasty nothing not to like it's got to be a big thumbs up from me ..

One of my favourite restaurants to eat at in Bridlington, having eaten here for years we have tried most things on the menu. I ordered the steak and ribs whilst my partner had the Bucking Bronco, of all the times we have eaten here, this visit saw the best fried chicken! Cooked to perfection and gorgeously seasoned! We were greedy and got a starter, but we’re able to take the leftovers home. Would 100% recommend to anyone!

Pleasant staff on arrival water bowl for the dog , drinks order came quickly.Starter was a while but not forever.Mains came out 15 min after ,spot on.3 meals all very good plenty on the plateAnd very tasty . The rump steak was as I asked,mac cheese was very good.Price was better than expected Overall 9/10

Warm welcome, exceptional, freshly cooked food and plenty of it. Friendly staff and great service. We will return!!

We stopped in as we were waiting for a delayed train for a bite to eat and are so glad we did! We sat in the front room with an open fire and a window to view the brewery in the cellar where they make their own beer. I had a burger which was presented very well and obviously not a frozen fast food style thing you get in a lot of pubs. my wife had the steak and ale pie, again clearly homemade and filled with big chunks of meat, the chef explained he makes it with the ales from the brewery on site, served with proper fresh chips and thick gravy. Our waitress was lovely and so helpful. We will definitely be back again.

We were staying in brid this weekend in our motorhome and decided to give the funny onion a try for our evening meal, we walked in without booking prior, and was greated by the staff there who were very friendly and even though they were expecting a large booking found us a table. My partner ordered ribs and steak and i ordered hickory chicken..... omg the plate of food was huge and absolutly gorgeous and really good priced. the music and atmosphere was spot on... we defo will be going back. 10/10 for the venue, food and staff ....perfect

Staying in Bridlington for a few days, i looked up dog friendly pubs. Found this one, looked in during the day and it looked great. Came on Friday evening, very dog friendly, food and drink excellent quality, nice atmosphere and live singer. Bar staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall very worth visit, only a few minutes walk from centre of town.

Went in here as we were staying closer by. We had our 4 month baby with us and one pub has told us we were not welcome! However the staff here could not have been more welcoming. We only had drinks, I had a gin and tonic and hubby had a pint of bitter that they had brewed onsite. Lovely gin with fever tree mixer and very reasonably priced, hubby said the bitter was very nice too. Would definitely return!

What a nice place, dog owners worth the 5 mins walk from centre. Dogs very welcome own bowl of water. Good and drink very nicePlease take the time yo visit this very nice pub with very good food.

Was a bit unsure at first as we were meant to be eating somewhere else, walked into a lovely warm atmosphere very spacious and well designed, the food arrived it was amazing, we all had some type of chicken, southern friend and butterfly breast also cajun chicken, the chicken was cooked to perfection and soft and juicy, the portion sizes were so good, we all had desserts the apple pie was sweet and soft with just the right amount of crunch to the pastry, well worth the money will deffinately be eating here again 5 stars all the way!!!

Recently re-opened. Food was delicious, I had steak with crispy seasoned fries. Good quality meat, enjoyed the onion rings and coleslaw. It was very quiet but we went early. I had joined the members club online and the waitress asked for the confirmation email, gave us a members card and we got free drinks. Great service, thank you. Hope to see more dishes on the menu.

It can be difficult to find somewhere interesting to eat/drink in Bridlington town centre so I Googled eateries/pubs and liked the look and sound of the Funny Onion, I wasn't disappointed. There is a selection of World Top ales (local brewery, it's good to support your local community). The menu was what you would expect in a smokehouse, I had the chicken breast burger with chunky chips fried in beef fat, it was gorgeous, my husband had the steak and he loved it. We didn't stay long because we were meeting friends at the Spa so we didn't use the toilets etc. It was Friday 5pm and I noticed the staff turning people away even though it wasn't full, I'm guessing the empty tables were reserved so if possible book before you go.

Our first time back since reopened and will definitely be back. We really enjoyed our meal in a lovely atmosphere with really friendly staff. Could highly recommend.
