Well run village pub with outstanding service and food. Attractive interior with a good mix of seating for drinks and conversation or restaurant. 4 local beers on hand pump and other keg beers. Food is interesting, well prepared: and freshly cooked. Timely service but not rushed and very reasonably priced for this level of quality.. The staff try very hard to make your stay as good as possible. We have been on three or four occasions over the last few months and everything has been good with a consistent standard. absolutely nothing not to like. It is deservedly popular so you may take a risk if you want food without booking .

Had a beautiful Sunday lunch here. Everything was warm and cosy from the moment we walked in. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and asked what we would like to drink so that they could be brought straight to our table. Menu had lots of choice with lovely starters as well as a good selection of different meats for Sunday main. We had the Roast Pumpkin and Coriander Soup and the Smooth Chicken Liver Parfait for starters followed by Roast Loin of Pork and Roast Lamb. Lovely selection of vegetables, great Yorkshires and plenty of meat. We were too stuffed to attempt desserts but there was also a lovely selection of those. We'll definitely be returning and will recommend to family and friends.

We feel so lucky to be able to call this pub our local! The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly and attentive, and they truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The food is consistently delicious, with a great selection of hearty, well-prepared dishes. Whether you’re popping in for a pint or staying for a meal, you can always count on a fantastic experience. Lovely food and well presented. The staff were lovely apart from the older lady who was pointed out to me as the owner, sadly her perfume overpowered our food! You could actually taste her scent as she walked past! Maybe spray a bit less or give it a complete miss. We will return as the food is well worth it 😊

We needed a place to break a journey and found the full Moon via CAMRA. It was Sunday lunch and we were not able to pre-book (recommend booking!). Not been to the Moon for many years and was impressed how it has transformed from a comfortable village pub to a smart eatery whilst still maintaining the pub offer. Both London Pride and Landlord were excellent and they were the first pints pulled that day which says a lot. The menu was good, as was the food and service.

The review hiding behind the persona of Benny Hill seems to have some kind of grudge. This review doesn’t come close to describing The Full Moon which my family and friends frequent regularly. The landlord and landlady could not be more accommodating and they have a lovely mix of friendly staff. The food is always of a high standard. It is for these reasons it is an extremely busy and popular venue, so would suggest anyone wanting food should book in advance. The music evenings are always well attended. However once the main restaurant is full you are given the CHOICE to sit outside on the terrace, so best to book early. Great pub, great vibe.

Nice building in a lovely village. I have frequented this hostelry since 2008. It has seen several owners and varied levels of success. Currently I find it very hit and miss. Whilst obviously you are better off making a reservation sometimes people will visit on the spurr of the moment. This past year or so has been somewhat challenging and risky if you intend going unannounced, you can be met with, "The chef is not doing walk ins today"," We've been busy this morning doing a wedding breakfast and are very tired so not really doing lunches", or being told two hours before the advertised end of food service, "We've stopped serving full meals now best we can do is a portion of chips"... When attending a music group performance evening and paying extra for the show and meal you run the risk of being seated outside on the rear tipsy terrace where you can neither see nor properly hear the group. Getting to the bar for a drink is basically a fight and taking turns is not in the rule book, getting to the toilet through the crowd of locals crammed into the bar nursing their long since purchased warm flat pint is an olympic feat. Some of the staff are just servers with little persona and the owner/lessor/manager seems to be focussed on just getting the money prised from her customers. Not a bad pub but also needs a shake up to live up to the claims it makes through its advertising and the quality image it is attempting to portray.

Usually food is excellent but we went on a Monday lunchtime and the food wasn’t great. My friend had the sausage and mash- sausages and smash good but the ‘onion gravy’ as per menu simply wasn’t. There were a few microwaved onions on the plate and the ‘gravy’ was obviously just gravy granules and water. And very salty. Suspect it was the chefs day off. Will not visit again on Monday.

Went here on Saturday for a small family birthday celebration - 6 adults and 4 children. They put us in a back room with another family party whihc worked well as we didn't have to worry about the children disturbing other diners. There's an outdoor play area whihc is fenced in and was ideal for occupying the children till the food was ready. We all ate off the set lunch. Only had 2 courses (£20) as I'd brought a birthday cake and they were happy for us to bring it in and gave us plates and a knife. All made for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

The food was not great, and it was so cold that I ate wrapped up in a scarf. It took a long, long time to thaw out when we returned home. The waiter told us the owner had decreed there was to be no heating until November - by then most of the diners could have died from exposure. The crayfish and prawn starter was OK, and the pork and bakewell tart were acceptable. The salmon had not been deboned properly, and it was not possible to find the battered fish under a very thick layer of batter, with old batter stuck underneath. The steak pie was edible, but not good. Perhaps the worst thing of all was the bread and butter pudding which resembled and tasted as bad as a slab of lard - absolutely appalling. Definitely not an experience to be repeated, and the worst meal I have ever eaten.

We’ve been here occasionally in the past and went last night for a birthday celebration with the family of 4 + 5 year old. It’s a lovely place in an attractive village. We went 5.30pm and there is an early bird menu before 6.30 with a 2 or 3 course fixed price menu. The choice is a little limited but sensible selection of dishes and we all found something we wanted. Service was friendly and prompt. Staters we had were basically a fancy prawn cocktail, one having pate. Mains were sea bass, pork for 2 of us, one having liver. All dishes were really excellent, far superior to what we expected, cooked and presented perfectly. We cannot fault any aspect of the evening.

I would like to start this with the fact that I know some family members have had great meals here! We called to check if there was a gluten free menu as two members of the party (including myself) require gluten free options We were told they could accommodate this I checked again when ordering drinks and was told by the waitress that not to worry most things could be adapted as gluten free. When ordering I checked if the things I had ordered could be adapted to be gluten free and was told again no problem (burger with no bun and a starter) The waiter then came out of the kitchen and was told none of my order could be adapted… this continued twice with different order options and I just gave up and ordered something that I knew could be gluten free from the get go. There were multiple other problems The other gluten free member of the parties food didn’t come out until everyone else had almost finished eating and whilst we were waiting for it the waitresses stood in full sight laughing and looking over. Not once were we checked on or apologised too, they were less than attentive. After everyone has finished and it was time to pay the bill another waitress came over to apologise There are no allergen makers on the menu full stop. None for gluten/nuts/egg/dairy Which I’m sure by law they now have to have on the menu What is more dangerous is that the staff seem to care very little and have very little knowledge about allergens… this is something that if got wrong could severely hurt or even kill a person. Either you need to train your staff in allergens or mark the menu when allergens are present for the safety of your customers! Called the landlady of the pub to discuss afterwards and she was less than interested and didn’t seem like she wanted to discuss the issue we had with the allergens not being visible on the menu/lack of knowledge with staff around allergens It would have not been an issue if when we called prior that we were told they couldn’t accommodate us.. we would have chosen to eat elsewhere but they were more than happy prior to the booking to accept us with our GF issues. So avoid if you have any allergic reactions or allergies with food. Will not be returning

Astonished to be advised that "We are too busy to serve drinks". There were empty tables [other than they needed clearing] and there were no other customers who appeared to be waiting. We ate here as a table for 4 this week in the early evening midweek. We decided to have the Early bird menu as it looked great value and we weren’t disappointed. Every course we had (and they were all different for each of us ) was delicious. I was a little surprised that a number of the prices on the website for the main menu were significantly less than those in the restaurant though eg lamb rump £3 difference. Perhaps they have just been increased and the website need to catch up? However, as we opted for the early bird set menu and we also got the £10 a head Eat Out to Help Out government discount it wasn’t an issue for us! Overall it is a lovely, friendly establishment with very tasty food. We will definitely return.

At a time when the hospitality industry is under pressure and many pubs claiming to be desperate to stay in business, I found it astonishing that when I visited on Saturday (18/07/20), I was refused food because the kitchen had closed 20 minutes earlier! However, as a favour (that's how it felt) they could give me cheap oven chips...very kind of them (I say sarcastically). Hang on, am I to believe that no member of staff is capable of making a sandwich? At this time in particular, I would be bending over backwards to make sure I could get every last penny from my customers...my kitchen would open all day! I now have no sympathy for any pub who says they’re struggling when this is their attitude…obviously this pub is thriving and doesn’t need the revenue. Why not hire someone (£10 p/hour?) to keep the kitchen open and offer at least sandwiches which yield around 100% profit? Very disappointed.

We had an amazing takeaway Sunday lunch shared between 2 households to celebrate a family birthday. After pre-booking during the week and making our food choices we turned up at the allotted time and food was delivered to the car to keep social distancing requirements. Food is delivered on plates deep enough that the juices didn’t go everywhere, gravy was provided in take out coffee cups and pudding in plastic containers. Quality and quantity was fantastic, the roulade was a hit and the main course meats were divine. Booked in for Boxing Day lunch. Firstly had to battle to get to the bar due to the amount of dogs and owners (I love dogs but come on it was Boxing Day when most people would be dressed accordingly visiting for a nice lunch in the restaurant). Secondly we weren’t seated in the main restaurant area. Had requested when booking not to be next a family table - to be next to exactly that! Thirdly we asked if the beef would be served pink and was informed it would. When it arrived it was dry, overcooked and tough. Couldn’t eat it. The rest of the meal was basic. At this point we’d had our day spoilt and decided to cut our lunch short thus not bothering with pudding. The manager did apologise and said our deposit would cover the starter and a glass of wine. We ended up having to cook a meal once we got home.

I telephoned to book a table here last minute for fathers day and was pleased to be offered a suitable time, after which I viewed the website but I could not see a specific Fathers day menu only a Sunday lunch menu with reasonable prices. We arrived slightly early and were seated straight away by a friendly waitress who took our drinks order for which we didn't have to wait too long for considering they were very busy! I was slightly surprised by the fathers day menu with set prices for 2 and 3 courses with exactly the same food choices as the Sunday Lunch Menu but quite considerably more. I am aware that some places increase prices and offer 'special' menus for certain dates, however this was neither advertised on their website or any social media page and it wasn't advised when I called to book. We went ahead and ordered the 2 courses and all the food was delicious and we were all very impressed with our choices. The total bill was around £25 more than the regular Sunday lunch prices which was slightly steep, however I would visit again but maybe check the website information is correct? The service was good throughout up until we had finished pudding and were left with empty plates as the staff stood talking between themselves behind the bar, obviously it had been a busy day but this should have been expected. We eventually just went to the bar to pay and went elsewhere for another drink.

Myself and partner had visited this pub last September and had a great experience. We left feeling we'd had one the best Sunday lunches to date and were full of compliments for the Full Moon Inn. So much so, I was really keen to return and bring my family. Upon our return today, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. After calling well in advance during the week to book the table and explain one member of the party dining with us was Celiac, I was assured that this was something they were more than prepared for and had plenty of gluten free options or alternatives, however once it came to ordering the food it became clear this was not the case. There were no alternatives just items removed from the menu. The service from each one of the three waitresses that served our table was poor, two of the main courses came out missing items stated on the menu and the meat was fatty and overcooked. We felt like an inconvenience, and the lack of atmosphere made us feel like they would prefer us to leave ASAP. Overall it was a very disappointing trip, and after being wowed on our first trip here we doubt we would ever return after the experience we had today.

Look no further if you fancy a quiet weekend away to get away from everything. In a beautiful tranquil setting a stones throw from bustling Southwell you will find a friendly welcome of this gorgeous village pub. Stunning accommodation with a bed to die for, one of the best evening meals I’ve eaten in a long long time and a breakfast fit for a king. A must if you’re in the area

Many establishments make a lot of noise about their Christmas and New Year packages and are never able to fulfil the hype. The Full Moon at Morton, just outside Southwell in Nottinghamshire, advertised several packages over the Christmas and New Year period and, if our experience on New Year’s Eve is anything to go by, they delivered in spades. A lot of satisfied customers will be eagerly eyeing an early return. The food was excellent in every respect, good portions, well presented and perfectly cooked. The management have clearly trained their staff well, they were welcoming and ultra-efficient. Beatles tribute band The FAB 4 recreated the sound and played and sung all the famous hits, dare I say, at least as well as the originals. All in all, a great night and an ideal way to see in 2019. Needless to say, we will be returning very soon.

My mother lives a short walk from here and so I have been “Going to the Moon” for around 30 years. I have seen it change ownership many times over the years and today’s owners have got the right combination of restaurant with a good, locally-sourced menu to pub where people come for a drink. There should be more stools at the bar but that’s OK. Service at dinner was very good, food was great, wine list was fairly varied and reasonably priced so overall we came away glad that we had chosen to eat here again.

We met up here with a couple of friends for an evening meal, beautifully decorated for Christmas. Good choices for vegetarians, three of us chose the mushrooms for starters which were great and two of us had the aubergine dish as the main which was excellent. Lovely open fire and friendly atmosphere.

Visited here for lunch, having previously had a really good experience on a Monday. Firstly, it’s great that they allow dogs in. They were very welcoming and the car park was fairly busy for a mid week lunchtime. Always a good sign. We went for the lunch menu. £12.95 for two courses and very healthy portions they were. Mushrooms on ciabatta to start for us both and then fish and chips and goats cheese tart for a main. Service was really informal and friendly and we didn’t feel rushed or pressurised as can be the case at times. Gave us plenty of time to catch up and for the dog to have a snooze after her walk. A really fabulous pub in a little village and I am sure we will be back again.

Lovely pub, friendly staff and nice ambiance. But the food choices are appalling for vegans and extremely limited for vegetarians. The only vegan option for me was a olive/tomato/bread dip starter, which was extremely poor. One olive resembled a prune and the watercress was limp and yellow. However my son who ate a meat dish (steak pie and mash) enjoyed his food and rated it well.

Enjoyed a great family celebration at this well run pub. The staff did us proud for a 90th birthday meal. The pub had just catered for a sizeable lunchtime wedding, but were able to accommodate us in the late afternoon, and honour the original lunchtime menu offer.

ne of our favorite pubs. Very friendly staff who try to please. Beautiful pub, nice garden, peaceful, pretty village setting with nice local walks. Children's play equipment. Good range of Fentiman's drinks & guest beers. Never tried to order vegan food as never appears to be much choice for vegans on the menu: still hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Went for a quick bit of lunch with my fiancé, our son and our dog. We were made to feel very welcome the moment we arrived. Opting for the early bird offer of £12.95 for 2 courses we were amazed with the portion size considering the quality of the food provided.

Sunday Lunch for 5 people, all but one of us had 3 courses. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the food was extremely tasty. Was just a bit disappointed when we were charged an extra 50 pence for a Yorkshire pudding my daughter had requested with her pork.

Visited after going for a walk down to the river Trent and back with a friend. The car park was empty when we left for the walk and much busier when we returned. Always a good sign. They were very friendly and allowed my (well behaved I must add) dog into the pub. On Monday lunch they offer a £7 deal for a main course. I expected to have room for a pudding after, but portions were that plentiful that I didn’t! I had steak pie. Homemade and full of meat, unlike the half full pies with lots of gravy filling you get elsewhere. Plenty of chips, mushy peas and gravy to accompany. My freeing had fish and chips and it was equally good. Really excellent pub food and we certainly would go back, especially at under £10 a head.

We’ve been working away from home for the past five weeks and have eaten at The Post Office in Newark almost every night. It’s become our go-to spot! The staff here is fantastic, always welcoming and attentive—Kenzie, in particular, has been amazing, making sure we’re well taken care of each time we come in. They even switch the sports channel to our local team’s games, which makes us feel right at home. The food is top-notch! We had the Jingle Bell Beef burger, and it was excellent—perfectly cooked with incredible flavor, paired with crispy, beer-battered onion rings. We can also highly recommend the mixed grill and fish and chips—both were delicious and generous portions. The beer selection is solid too! If you’re looking for great food, friendly service, and a spot to catch a game, The Post Office is the place to be. We’ll definitely miss this place when we head home! ( coffee & smashed glass )
