The food was fantastic as was the service. Nothing was too much trouble and it was very clean. I would highly recommend probably worth booking at busy periods.

Loved the fish and chips on Friday after our day on the canal. Staff were friendly and attentive (a special mention to Carmel). All food was cooked fresh and was very tasty and plentiful. My fish was perfect with a delicious light and crispy batter. The vegan dish my daughter had was declared a big hit too. What a lovely cosy, friendly, good value place to eat. It was our second visit and definitely our go to when out on the canal. 🌟

A year ago we I gave a 5 star review for this restaurant, this time its 1 star for the take away! The absolute WORST food I've had in years!! We've been to the restaurant here several times and always enjoyed but today it was closed so we got a take away. BIG MISTAKE!! When I started eating my meal the first couple of chips were thin scraps so I kept looking for the plump fresh ones - I found TWO in the whole box! Even then those two were bad on the end. We had to wait for the food to be cooked and we feel we have been given the scraps that were left over and warmed up. The fish also tasted like it had been recooked, it was inedible. For £16.30 we expected a decent meal but ended up throwing half away - I wouldn't even give it to the dog! The service was bad too, we were asked if we wanted a carrier bag and then told afterwards it was 25p! They even tried not giving us it and had to check that we had paid. Safe to say we will NOT be coming back. I don't give this review lightly, but on this occasion I feel it necessary, the fryer must have known he was giving us poor food and if you give rubbish food you have to expect bad reviews. Do better!!

This has got to be the most expensive chippy in Yorkhire. Also the staff have got to be the most ignorant around (not once was we asked "how was your food" and thats after spending over £90 (after all its only a chippy). To top it all the food was NOT up to much either (my fish WAS undercooked) NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Visited on a Saturday evening and used the dine in facility which was comfortable, and spotlessly clean. We ordered Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas which came with homemade tartare sauce. The fish was flaky and tasty covered in a light crispy batter, with the chips well cooked,soft and fluffy with crispy exterior served with great mushy peas. The tartare sauce was superb, we even asked for an extra portion as it was so good. Overall excellent quality and service and well worth a visit

Now this is how you do fish n chips!! Light crispy batter, crisp fluffy chips and a really tangy fruity curry sauce. Nicely served in enviro friendly packaging. Delicious through and through. Compared to the over priced badly cooked offering we had earlier in the week this is a 10 star chippy! Thanks guys n gal.

Well you can't go to Yorkshire and not have fish and chips, what can I say....lightly battered fish that melted in my mouth, hot fresh chips and homemade tartar sauce to die for..all washed down with a good strong pot of tea...honestly the best fish and chips I've had in a long time...just wish I lived closer. Over the years I think I must have visited nearly every fish and chip shop in Yorkshire and Cumbria, so know the difference between a bad one and a good one. The Frying Yorkshireman (and its predecessor) in Gargrave has consistently been one of the very best and if asked, I would recommend it as among the best in the North of England. Therefore, I was recently a bit saddened when I visited and standards had clearly slipped, the counter service was poor and food quality had deteriorated, moreover portion sizes (always good at the Frying Yorkshireman) had reduced considerably. Not good. To be fair, I believe that it was trainee staff behind the counter and the lad who was serving was just not up to the job and clearly couldn't care less, while I was there he managed to knock the display above the counter off its mounts (it hit the floor of the shop with a heck of a crash) and then served up a small and mediocre portion of chips, it was derisory and not up to the standard of this great establishment. I do believe in giving second chances though, so was really pleased when on a recent visit I found that things were back up to standard, the food was fresh and well-prepared and served in decent portions, I really do hope that my recent negative experience was just a one-off. The Frying Yorkshireman is a fantastic fish and chip shop, it's worth a visit.

Stopped off for a chippy dinner, nice clean restaurant, connected to the chip shop. Service was quick and very friendly, As not being to busy, we ordered our the large fish and chips, The plates arrived and we were a bit shocked at the size of the fish and the amount on the plates. Every thing was piping hot and really fresh, fish was very white and flaky. Chips we're crispy not at all soggy. Being hungry we managed to finish the whole plate. For what we got we felt the price was reasonable. Well worth a visit if your in Gargrave.
