Greewood Cafe Bistro - First class service combined with delicious food in beautiful surroundings

This place, regardless of the time of day or week, you will be served with absolutely delicious food. Anytime we have gone (numerous times), the two ladies haven't failed to impress. OK, we normally ring the day ahead, as taking a chance on finding a table is next to impossible on the day. Booked three months in advance for the Christmas Day meal, we know everything will be perfect. My husband always says to the two ladies, 'If I win the Euromillions, I want you to come and be our personal chef.' The trouble is with that, the regular customers would be complaining loudly. as Greenwoods has now become a regular feature in Skipton for people with good taste to dine at.

It was about 3pm on a Friday. Most tea shops and cafes around had stopped serving food, we were very hungry, so we chose this place because they were serving. The inside smelled strongly of fish, so we sat outside in the cold. The lady who served us was very pleasant. We ordered a couple of simple cold sandwiches, and sat and chatted with another couple situated next to us, and had just ordered as well. The chat went on... for a very... long... time. No food appeared, nor did the nice lady show up again... for almost a hour and a half. (same with he other couple) The little sandwiches showed up, my bread was dry, my wife's was soggy. We came away a little less hungry, shorter on time, and somehow about thirty quid lighter for the experience. It was a lovely conversation, but we'll skip this venue next time we're in Skipton.

Lovely, Friendly and welcoming staff. Didn’t have any cash and was offered to do bank transfer or cash point which was literally through the arch way. Quick & easy. We had the fish chowder and the prawn pancakes which was Devine, great menu and wine, lovely atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this lovely cafe/bistro and we will definitely be going back. We like to try different places but this will take some beating.

A small yet stylish place off the main street. Stopped for lunch, had a salad and a beer each £45. Very busy and lots of the food looked amazing. Our black pudding salads were not great though with overcooked bacon and croutons (which were very greasy too). Was ok though. 4 stars for food based more on what I saw everyone else eat. Busy lunch period on a sunny day meant service was slow. So I'd advise a quieter day and avoid the salad. Price is a little high, but not crazy assuming other dishes are as good as they looked. Worth a visit.

We chose the 'special" which was the fish pie with mash potatoes and spinach. The dish had large pieces of fish and the sauce was creamy and delicious. The mash potato was real mash.. none of that powdery reconstituted potato starch here!! We chose ginger beer to drink. Everything was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend

VERY POOR service. Ordered sandwiches and told there would. Be a delay as all are freshly made. 35 mins later I asked where my food was to be told there was only one Chef and he was busy cooking fish. I pointed out that people who arrived after me( more than 10 mins) had received their sandwiches, the waitress continued to blame the Chef who was still cooking fish! Hard to believe what I was being fobbed off with. I think the waitress misplaced my order ( which is only a human thing to do) but blamed the Chef, who was busy. Honesty is always best.

We called in on the spur of the moment for lunch. We were told about the 'seafood special' page of the menu and found it exactly that - special. The serving team was so friendly and helpful and the food (mussels) was absolutely superb. And therefore we felt we had no option but to go back the day after - his time we both had sardines and they were delicious. The dishes other diners chose (not necessarily seafood ones) also looked very good.

Just had a fantastic home made gluten free scone. Apparently, they're locally baked by a customer. Lovely and light. Not your usual you could smash windows with them. They also do gluten free carrot cake, but I was too full after a huge bowl of soup first, so I took a piece away for later. Yes, you can get cheaper elsewhere, but for me, well worth it. Keep it local and support local businesses.

We had a really lovely evening at Greenwood bistro recently with friends. Food is superb, carefully cooked with lovely ingredients. We were asked to choose our dishes in advance, which is fine with me because of the cost of ingredients, it makes sense and is a good way to help out a restaurant in these difficult economic times. Totally happy with our choices, the ambience was great and the service discreet but thoughtful. Will definitely be back. Do give this place a try and support good cooking.Skipton needs more restaurants of this quality.

Really disappointed with our experience here on Easter Saturday. On what was a lovely sunny day, myself, my mother, my daughter and my 1 year old son sat outside whilst we waited for my Dad and son to park the car. We ordered a toasted tea cake, coffee, a coke and two teas whilst we waited. The baby wanted to wander on the cobbles so we took it in turns to walk with him. My daughter also wanted to buy some earrings from a shop close by. The food looked lovely and we were contemplating lunch but unfortunately we were told quite rudely and abruptly “that if we weren’t going to order anything then we needed to leave” I told the staff member we had in-fact ordered and spent almost £20 already. At this point we decided that we did not want to stay due to the rudeness of the staff. My mum went into pay for her 2nd cup of tea and the staff informed her that she couldn’t pay on card as there was a minimum spend. Mum had no cash and they said to her that she would have to leave her grand daughter at the table whilst she went to the cash point and that they had a business to run. I paid for her tea. Despite the food looking delicious we decided we would not order lunch and we will not be returning.

Lots of big juicy flavoursome prawns and delicious home cooked chips. Overall a fabulous lunch.

Great independent Cafe Bistro, When the high streets are full of usual national outlets chains its nice to seek out an independently owned and run establishment and it's always a good sign if it's frequented by locals. The Greenwood doesn't disappoint. The service is fab, no dramas, just polite, friendly and efficient service. I had the full english breakfast, which was excellent, loved the sausages and lightly fried bread :-) My wife had Welsh rarebit topped with beautifully poached eggs. All cooked when ordered. The evening menu looks varied and interesting, there are a number of upcoming themed nights, Greek, Italian etc, well worth a try if the breakfasts are anything to go by. Thanks for today, we will be back.

Unfortunately my experience here wasn't the best. The beurre blanc sauce with the goats cheese and beetroot tortellini tasted like very strong uncooked alcohol and bitter. Somebody came down (I think the chef?), essentially told us that we were wrong and the sauce was perfect, then aggressively asked my friend if she was a chef. There were no apologies by any of the staff. This made us feel very unwelcome and stupid. I never send food back or write bad reviews, however this is the rudest service I have probably ever experienced and I hope the staff can take feedback on board and treat their customers with more respect in future.

I had my first trip out after an op on my foot, hobbled in with my husband and the staff couldn’t have been nicer, letting my rest my foot on a chair ( with coat over so all hygienic!) moving tables to help me sit in a more comfy position. This place is absolutely spot on. If anyone reads my previous reviews of places, you will know we don't suffer fools gladly when it comes to our choice of foods. There is absolutely no boil in the bags, no cheap ingredients bought from Aldi or Lidl and everything is FRESH and done by the chef, Helen. Lovely and cosy place, all staff go above and beyond to make your trip most enjoyable. I have heard people tell us that it is, 'Far too dear.' Well let me immediately ask you this, would you rather pay an extra couple of pounds for freshly prepared food which everyone will enjoy, or pay a little less for people in the group to leave food uneaten on their plates as it is cheap and cheerful 'tourist' food? This is an absolute gem of a place, and don't please be fooled and walk by if you see downstairs is full, as there are more tables upstairs. And if you are anything like us (a bit nosey), we looked into the kitchen area and it was absolutely spotless.

From entering this lovely, intimate restaurant to leaving, our experience was excellent. We had visited Skipton several months ago and enjoyed lunch at Greenwood’s, promising ourselves to return for dinner. So - we travelled from Bolton, stayed at the nearby Travelodge , (mmm ) and ordered taxis both ways to Greenwood’s. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our window seat table and presented with the wine menu. It was pleasing to see that there was a choice of a white and red half bottle - handy when people are choosing meats and fish. Both wines were delightful. Dinner reservations are required to contact Greenwood’s a few days before the booking after choosing from the online menu. I also understand that the restaurant offers tapas evenings and themed menus from time to time. We both enjoyed the King prawns in garlic, accompanied by a warm, toasted but soft bread, with my husband having chose the fillet steak with chips for his main course. A tasty peppercorn sauce was delivered in a small jug; this added to the succulence of the dish and the chips were home made and plentiful. I had ordered monkfish and requested that capers were omitted from the tomato based sauce. The dish was delicious from start to finish. We shared a chocolate fondant, a beautiful finish to a beautiful meal. The lady cook came to chat with us and offered us a home made liqueur to complete the meal. Lovely! Our order of coffee and Kahlua, served on a bed of ice was the perfect end. The restaurant is quite small and has an intimate feel. Music is modern and chilled adding to the ambience. On the evening we went, there were few diners but we didn’t mind this at all. We felt that Greenwood’s was open just for us! Service is personal, friendly, not intrusive and Gillian chatted to us at various points throughout the meal. Nothing was too much trouble. Whilst this restaurant is quite expensive, the food and wine is high-end, making it the perfect place for a special meal. Highly recommended.

What a suprise!!!!! Such a lesson not to judge a book by its cover! We weren't expecting much due to the size, decor, furnishings ets but wow....so wrong! We thought it'd be typical cafe fare...what they serve is so much more special. Even the basics are done to such an incredible standard that I actually can't wait to go back and will happily recommend this place to the tourists I always have asking me. I ordered an egg mayo sandwich as needed to be quick (lunch break)....obviously homemade with lots of love.....Best I have had in years.....and shock horror......it was seasoned to perfection (I've noticed a lot of places seem to be shying away from salt & pepper...moan over) . They came with a sprinkling of homemade chips just like mum used to make in the ol days with that trusty deep fat fryer. My mum had homemade Moroccan marrow soup which was beautifully favoured with delicate spices and mynsister had some deli meat sandwich with some peppered beef on it which I am now dreaming of! Really kind staff who were incredibly hard working. One minor thing is that I think the new staff member could do with a touch more training as I noticed twice they were carrying food out and holding it in place on the plate with their whole hand

Popped in on the off chance whilst visiting Skipton and was very pleased. Great food and service. Even the wines were marked up as suitable for vegetarians!

Excellent restaurant and highly recommended. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Food is always good quality and varied - tapas nights are brilliant with good choices of meat, fish and vegetarian based dishes.

We had dinner here which was expertly prepared and cooked in a lovely intimate, clean, modern restaurant. The owners look after you as if it’s private dinner party. I doubt you’ll find better cooking or fresher ingredients in the county.

We were lucky enough to find this little gem of a place whilst strolling around Skipton. What can I say, perfect service and the food was as good as any michalin stared restaurant I've been in. Would definitely recommend and we will hopefully be back in the future. Thank you and best wishes for the future.

We called in for a beer and enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast at the Pinnacle on father's day. Good beers on tap and really good tasty Sunday roast. I opted for the lamb roast and everything was freshly cooked to high standard. The homemade mint sauce was awesome and perfect to go with the lamb roast. I would have liked to try a dessert but felt full have a starter and Sunday roast. Friendly guys that run the place, if we get back to cowling I would definitely eat and drink here again. Thanks

We love this place. Visit on a regular basis. We have gotten to know the owners over the last three years. They are very welcoming and make you feel part of the family. It's their home and comes with a lot of character and charm. Food is absolutely outstanding. Always well cooked and fresh. The prices are spot on. It's not over the top and is well worth every penny. Due to it being so popular, it's advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment 😞. Service can sometimes be slow, but the food is well worth the wait. Highly recommended for a visit.
