Lovely freshly cooked fish & chips! Went for a pensioners portion, plenty of both fish & chips with a portion of curry sauce & pot of tea. Good value & thoroughly enjoyed! Will be back

Food is nice but the service was a bad experience for me and my friends today. We’re 16 in college and going for lunch. We thought curry sauce was going to be in a pot as we payed for a pot and came with it on the chips instead. We were nice about it and asked if they could do it in a pot instead and there faces made us so embarrassed and a man chucked our chips in the bin and gave us a new one with a pot of curry sauce which we are thankful for now but they didn’t apologise or even talk to us. Their attitude as adults towards some kids is ridiculous.

The absolutely best fish and chips in the North of England. We're from Newcastle upon Tyne and travel to Carlisle once a week. Because we have dogs we have to eat outside BUT it's worth it. We have never had any complaint, wonderful fish and chips just wish they were near where I live.

Great chippy that me and the family have decided to call our traditional stop off point when we travel from Birmingham to Fife several times a year.. The chips and the curry sauce are to die for. Customer service could do with being more cheery, but the food is fantastic.

Great take away, all cooked fresh, piping hot and reasonably priced. Fish was perfect and crisp batter. Glad we found this place

Avoid at all costs took my daughter for lunch we shared a portion of chips basically the chips were slapped on the plate like a mountain staff gathered behind till gossiping in general very unprofessional then to top it off place covered in tiny flys coming out of a plant in corner of room looked like the manager came and took plant away went passed us with the plant over my daughters head so we ended up with tiny flys on table I only went there as partner had took daughter at weekend first and last visit

Our 1st visit to Carlisle and saw this Fish and Chip shop so called in. The staff were first class and I can honestly say the food s the best I have every had in a Fish & Chip shop. Absolutely delicious.

Really good quality food . Service was good . Really enjoyed it.

Went for food today and ordered chicken bites and chips with salt, and chips with salt and vinegar. The lass on the front mixed up the orders and put vinegar on the chicken. I went back to ask her if she could remake it or something and she just said "what am i meant to do about it". Customer service with her was shocking, didnt get my food remade. Won't be going back again.

We did an online order and were not disappointed. It was so good to find fish and chips cooked in oil not lard. The huge chunk of cod was perfectly cooked and lovely and moist and the batter was thin and crispy. The home made tartare sauce was heavenly, low acid and lovely bits of crunchy pickle. The process from order to pick up was hassle free. The choice to have lots of salt and vinegar, medium or a little salt & vinegar was appreciated too. They said 30 mins wait time and they were spot on. Would we go back again - Absolutely YES - worth every penny. Thank you for great fish and chips and lovely friendly staff.

The wafer thin batter on the cod was amazing. This is a superb f and c shop.

Quality has gone down. Prices have gone up. Large fish and chips almost certainly is not. Very poor portion size. When you are paying just under £13 for one portion of a large you expect it to be that. Spotless clean takeaway and staff wonderful but food definitely not up to its past standard

An absolutely amazing chip butty, by far the best chip butty I've had in a long long time, could've quite easily gone back for another one but that's just greedy, for £2.95 it was very worth it, I could definitely return again👍

The food was basic as basic gets...and well over priced. Was practically ordered to go upstairs... By a foreign worker,.....some confusion as to how order was to be taken... At the table or the desk.... Atmosphere was like parlour of repose.... Giggling servers... Couldn't wait to get out.... Wont be back..!

I’ve been recommended to try the Stanwix fish and chip shop which is meant to be quite close to here but when I got there it seemed to be stripped out and closed. As I drove back towards my hotel I spotted The Friary and this turned out to be a fantastic spot. I had a small cod and chips but I wouldn’t say the fish was particularly small and a portion of chips was very generous. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The shop itself looks bright fresh and clean. And the quality of the food was very good. All in all a very good fish and chip shop.

The Fryery Scotland Road has to be the best place for fish and chips in Carlisle. Go for the Fryery Special which is great value for money, portion size is big enough for me to share with myself and my 7 year old daughter.

Lunch at The Fryery was a great experience (January 26th 2022). Staff very friendly, good size portions and the quality of food 10 out of 10. Would highly recommend a visit.

First time we’ve visited this fish and chip restaurant but won’t be the last!! We sat in and I had a small plate of cod and chips which wasn’t really a small portion, there were plenty of chips and the cod was a great size. The fish was divine with crunchy, crispy batter. My partner had Cumberland sausage and chips which was a huge portion, he said it was really lovely. The staff were really friendly and attentive to their customers. We couldn’t have asked for more, thank you to everyone for your hard work. We will be back.

Good old fashioned fish and chips, I go no where else.

Was looking forward to this opening as the one in town is great However we were really disappointed with this one. Did click and collect and it was all a bit chaotic but it's just opened so didn't mind. The large Fish and chips were certainly not a large portion with either the fish or the chips and the chips were undercooked and for the price really not worth it. Rennuccis have better fish,way better portions and actually have driven the other side of town since to get a better meal overall which is a real shame as this is on our doorstep.

Ist visit tonight. Delightful young woman serving at door. Sadly the fish was very disappointing... overcooked, dry fish, not succulent as it should be, chips ok. £19.00 wasted.

Best fish and chips anywhere I've been

Went here today with my wife.. Not Been for ages and wasn't disappointed.. Cracking food, nice crispy chips, not greasy and potatoes still fluffy in the middle. Busy little eatary but food was very quick to arrive. Nice and clean inside and good covid19 measures in place. Polite and friendly staff. Would recommend, generous portions.

As always scampi, chips n mushy peas to die for, the new home made tartar sauce is out of this world!!. And spyder the dog was more than happy with his sausage!!. Cant wait for next visit. Best in cumbria in my opinion. Oh n the lovely friendly staff are for free, even better. X

A really nice chippy! Came to Carlisle for the day and saw the offer of scampi and chips for £5.25, can't go wrong with that! My parents got that and I got my usual of battered sausage and chips. The customer service was great. Had to wait some time for our food but I wasn't too fussed as you have to be patient in times of the pandemic. Would definitely come again if I visit Carlisle again ☺️

Fish and chips very good but click and collect not everyones cup of tea.We had family in garden and decided at the last minute to go and buy but unable to unkess we go on line Hope its just a temporary measureIt puts me off going back unless u can just social distance

My sisters and I come here almost every Friday, the food is the best, and the staff are so welcoming and remember our usual choices, but always check that we want the same. The owner is particularly nice always thanks us for coming. I recommend them strongly.

The Fryery was recommended to us and as there is no where nearby to sit, we ate in. The fish and chips were OK, and the service was good, but it was very expensive for fish and chips. It was hot, crowded and noisy inside.

Got to be the best chippy and sit in cafe in Cumbria, fabulous food and brilliant staff.

Seems to get a couple pence more expensive every couple of months BUT I don’t mind, I’ve been going there weekly for 4 years and i haven’t had a bad experience once, best in town by far.

I arrived just before closing , they stayed open , could not of been more helpful and the fish and chips were lovely

When we go to Carlisle, we only eat at The Fryery because the food has always been excellent. however, this day we went it appears there were a lot of very small chips that needed to be disposed of and they appeared on my plate. I don't mind a few small ones it is expected, but I must have got the majority of everyone else's that lunch time, that is why I left them on my plate Still give it four stars, would have been five as usual but for the vast amount of small chips

Read really good reviews so I walked a mile expecting really nice fish and chips only to find the shop closed at 7pm! Update your opening hours...

After living in Canada for 11 years we headed here for our fix of English, bringing some Canadian friends with us for their Chippy baptism, the shop was about to close but the staff were amazingly welcoming and took our large order. I can honestly say that these were the best fish chips jumbo and Cumberland, with curry sauce and gravy. If you get a chance to visit you can’t go wrong here. Fantastic!!!

We enjoyed a delicious meal of Cod and Chips in pleasant surroundings served by friendly efficient waitresses. Special deal for pensioners.
