The Friary Fish & Chips in Highland

This was definitely the worst fish and chips I've ever had the misfortune to eat- the entire family agreed and most of the food got binned. The shop itself had a rancid fish smell, staff were having inappropriate conversations about a previous argument, the floor was dirty, the food was terrible. Scallops so over cooked we couldn't eat with a normal knife, rubbery calamari, soggy scampi and greasy chips. I have attached a photo of the portion on mushy peas as opened and untouched apart from removing the lid, the pot was less than half full. Such a shame as this place used to be great.Dire.

Sunday evening, hungry, tired, no food in what can you do but eat out. Except it's Bella and everywhere is fully booked. With trepidation we tried the chippy having heard it was new owners and considerably better than before. So right! Delicious chips with crispy haddock. Long wait in the queue but so worth it. Keep it up. There are not many decent chippies around Inverness.

Didn't actually have any fish & chips as we ate else where,however the ice-cream was amazing so good we visited a couple of times.

Orders taken promptly. Customer service friendly. Meal good but chips could have done with while longer in fryer as they were very white. Overall, I found the Friary of a reasonable standard but on the downside, I feel that customers who are ordering and paying do so at same end of counter as those uplifting their carryout and this leads to limited space and unnecessary bunching.

We were starving after a long drive and stopped here and saw this chippie. Well the Haddock and Chips were best I've had in a very long time. Piece of fish was so big, I'd be frightened to go swimming ever again! Batter was crisp and tasty and chips were beautifully and freshly cooked to order In all honesty I couldn't come near to finishing the generous portion I had and it was truly terrific value as well. Definitely the place to come to satisfy that craving we get for a poke of chips and a succulent piece of fresh fish to go with it. Shame I don't stay in Scotland really!

Called in at The Friary for fish and chips on Thursday while staying nearby. I can honestly say it's the best fish I've had in a very long time, absolutely beautiful!!! A great size portion too.. Perfectly cooked , no greasiness or after taste. Can't wait to visit the area again and I'll definitely be calling into the Friary for another fish and chips !!! Highly recommend a visit ...

As a local to beauly we visit the Friary every so often and have always found it ok. Today, at 5 months pregnant, I went in for lunch today and ordered chips and cheese. Unfortunately after I had started eating them, my fiancé had said they tasted off and they smell was over baring. As we were on our way to family further north we decided not to return. I noticed on entering the box of cheese was sitting out of the fridge and it was extremely warm today so not surprised at this however serving off food products to someone pregnant and of course other customers and charging £5 for this ? Shocking, I think their hygiene and food safety needs to be seriously re assessed. Luckily I didn't eat many at all however if I had done I would have been escalating this further.

As this is now my local chippy it seems only right to review it, used it a few times now and it never disappoints, fresh and tasty fish every time, always busy with friendly staff.

Broke off from fishing the River Beauly for fish and chips in The Square. Delighted with the freshness and quality of the fish, nicely cooked and perfect home made chips. Friendly and cheery staff - a wee bit of a fussy ordering and serving system seemed to slow things down a bit - but otherwise excellent!

What can I say swung in here for some fish and chips and it was delicious beautiful crispy batter what more can I say highly recommended!

Delightful fish and chip shop. Can be very busy, especially during the tourist season. Only ever tried the Fish and Chips on many occasions. Always seemed popular for other cooked dishes and Whippy Ice Cream. Always pleasant service.

Really nice small, village fish and chip shop. their food is always freshly cooked to order and always delicious. Great service from friendly staff. They do pizzas too.

Tried the food under the new management and it was really good. They were very busy,but everyone got served promptly. Lovely friendly staff on the day. They have introduced a Seniors menu which is a good idea as it is a bit cheaper. Noticed free lolipops for the kids too. Will be back again for sure.

Stopped in on my way through the village and absolutely loved it, great value for money with fresh fish. So good we have already been back on another occasion to enjoy their food

We visited Beauly recently and decided to call in at the Friary for Haddock suppers.

I am a regular of this place but since it was taken over i must say the food is despicable and now at a very low quality, the service has also gone downhill too

I decided to order 2 fish suppers and a chicken fillet supper, customer service was okay but the wait for the order was 35 minutes! The employee that was serving me I believe was called Callum, I was expecting an apology for the wait but he was very serious and dry towards me and never said anything about the wait but was very keen to take money!
