The Eating Plaice in Highland

Chips have improved since I was last in but the King Rib was dry as old boots. Won't be rushing back anytime soon for that.

One of the best fish & chips I’ve ever had! The fish was of excellent quality, and the batter was very crispy! The fries were great, and the sauce was very tasty! The staff and the owner were super friendly and served us even though it was late and they were close to closing. A must-stop for anyone passing by, and thanks again!! 🙌🏻😁

Wow, just wow, very expensive but if your a tourist, Scotland is very expensive, especially in holiday season....pies,curry sauce,chips,chicken fillets,chicken burger.....all banging.....worth the dough!!!!!

Don't like this chippy but thot one more go Wow we bought a fish supper 2 King rib and chicken fillet supper . IT WAS HORRENDOUS burnt to a crisp and stunk of burned oil easy seeing the boss wasn't there 24/5/24

We have been staying in Alness on holiday and had a cracking chippy tea last night from The Eating Plaice. I went for my usual chips and mushy peas (delicious!) but my husband was more adventurous and opted for the battered pizza and chips! 🍕 He said it was excellent and he also thoroughly enjoyed the red pudding 🤩 The staff were very friendly and welcoming; we would strongly recommended this chip shop and will definitely visit again next time we’re in the Highlands. High Quality Food, Great Service. Fish and chips 5 star. Cheese burger a little dry. Good portion of chips, very tasty. Onion rings could have been crisper. Good value meal.

Best chippy in the whole of Scotland.

Chips were decent and the breaded mushrooms were good. Sadly the King rib and pizza crunch were pretty terrible. :( I know it’s a 1/2 pizza crunch… but I didn’t realise the half was a reference to there only being batter on one side of the pizza!!!? the “battered side” was patchy and looked like it had been fried in filthy oil and it ultimately just tasted over cooked and greasy. A pizza crunch is never gonna win food awards, but I should still be able to taste the pizza! The King rib to its credit was battered on both sides, but again it looked like it had been fried in dirty oil and just tasted filthy and greasy, no sign of any quality because of how it was cooked… so it ended up in the bin. It was a relatively late order as it was less than an hour til closing, but the prices don’t drop… so I don’t think the quality or standards should either. Service was fine, no gripes here. Don’t think it’s fair to rate the atmosphere either as previously mentioned it wasn’t far from closing. I really liked the big map of Alness though.

Fish supper was nicely cooked, portion size was good for price sitting in . Latte was great size however more like flat white, but good none the less, overall good meal also considering fryer was very young well done can't really comment on service or atmosphere as was late in the day

This is a very good chip shop with a large menu. The food is very well prepared and was not greasy at all. The staff are friendly and appear to all work in conjunction with each other like a well oiled machine.

Had a great fish supper here, staff happy to see you and quick with the order...got homemade tartar sauce with the order, I'm rating it at 9/10. I'll be back 👍

Good all round chippy had a sit in meal scampi was fairly tasteless and very small portion but edible chips were ok served on a paper plate 😳 set up to get you in served and out as fast as possible

Fish was ok Chips were rotten pizza was burnt but the chips even the seagulls wouldn’t touch them. Never be back after that

Been there a few years pervious and looked forward to the eating experience again. Food was nice, however "eating in" was a bit disappointing due to the fact you get your meal on a little cardboard plate. Come on guys!!! Paying big prices for small portions.

Had the best fish supper ever I live in fife where the anstruther chippies are hard to beat This was even better Spotlessly clean Cooked to perfection staff are so friendly Owner even asked if we would like more chips on the house Couldn’t except his offer as me and my 2 companions where stuffed . We will be back for sure Strongly recommended.

States open till 8pm online and everywhere i can find yet was closed at 7 with no warning…can only rate it 1 star as couldnt taste any food. Iv had their fish and chips before and they are loverly just disappointed this evening

My go-to local chippy, overall I really enjoy the food from here.

Fantastic fish and chip shop on the High Street with diner area. I was served straight away and the staff are friendly and polite. The dining area is spotless and comfortable. I had haddock and chips,cooked to order, piping hot and really tasty. The batter on the fish is crispy and the chips are also crispy and so tasty. Highly recommend and would return.

Great as always efficient quick service made to order delicious.

Staff are so rude, arrogant and lazy (as can be seen by the opening hours) and food is hugely overpriced!!!! Being the only dedicated chip shop in the area they are taking advantage of it!!!!!

There is a reason this place has queues out of the door- the fish and chips and veggie burger and chips are just fantastic- and the home made tartar sauce is fabulous! We were driving through and from England, but made to feel welcome by staff - professional and prompt service- trust us- it’s worth the 10 min wait for your fish supper here!!

I called to place an order, the person in the phone was either not paying attention or bone idle. I ordered a haddock and chips and vegetation sausages and chips, she didnt listen and made three portions of sausages (9 in total) and charged me for that. I was told I had to wait 45 mins for my order...45 minutes for fish and chips!!!!!! Stupid!!! Arrived to pick up my order and the four members of staff were standing around doing nothing and eating behind the bar, health and safety big no no!! I had to wait a further 10 mins for my order while they chatted and ate....just outrageous!! I am glad I am just visiting Alness as I would never go to this shop again!!!

After 15 mile drive to try out a sit-in Fish supper we were not disappointed. Beautifully cooked fresh fish and good chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce on the side. The only let down was that we had to keep our jackets on as the restaurant was a bit cold for sitting.

Got to be the worst customer service, got swore at and shouted at for trying to use the toilets, absolutely disgusting

I was really looking forward to some fish & chips and o entering he place it looked impressive but the fish and chips were a big big letdown. The one star rating is for the mushy peas (which were decent) and for the cleanliness of this takeaway. The chips were very dry and anaemic looking and the fish didn't taste fresh. The batter was completely the opposite of what it should be, which is light and crispy.

Called while on holiday and the fish and chips were perfect, the batter was so crispy. So, as it’s our last night I’ve just ordered them online, which is really easy to do. Husbands going to pick the up soon, can’t wait. Really recommend, you won’t be disappointed.

Covid breeding ground. Owner puts profits before safety.

Take away that goes to the bother of buzzers and seating zones then serves unmasked walk ins who stand at the counter. Not Covid compliant. Challenged the owner who obviously didn’t care. Rude. Have taken photos and reported to police Scotland and Health and safety. Paying lip service to public health for the sake of profit. Avoid at all costs. Hopefully closed down soon.

Good food but the preparation time is the only thing that let's it down. Milkshakes are really nice and great for a hot day. Highly recommended the fish supper or pizza crunchie.

Fish is lovely and the batter thin and crispy. Service was good. They cook your fish fresh even if you order online, which is good so the batter doesn't go soggy or the fish go cold. Lovely staff. This will be my local from now on.

Nice looking modern fish and chip shop. Wasn't overly impressed with the food, battered haddock and chips. The box it came in has two separate sections. One for chips and the other for the fish. I paid just over £8 and my opinion it's too expensive for the quantity. The fish was nice but too much batter made the size of the fish deceiving, there wasn't much fish at all. It was like biting into hollow batter but each to their own some might like it like that.

Not very nice... batter on fish thin and and brown flecked and soggy . Very small portion of fish.. chips anaemic looking and tired ..tartar sauce. .most odd taste..seems you have put onion in it....? The only thing that wasn't bad was mushy peas.... but they must have come out of a tin.

Had a takeaway meal for the family all freshly cooked and tasted wonderful. Fried haddock in batter was delicious not too heavily coated in batter just right. Lightly fried tasty chips too and mushy peas. Definitely recommend this place.

I don't know what happened when Deep Blue moved along the road to become Eating Plaice, but it went from being the worst chippy I have been to the very best. Spotless, friendly, professional, consistently exceptional! Keep up the good work!

One of the tastiest fish suppers I've ever had

Due to coronavirus nonsense you can either phone order in then collect or just turn up at the door and order inside. I ended up ordering over phone at 4:45pm thinking it'd be the quickest option and was told to be there for 5:15. Wrong option, at 5:45 I finally got my order, people who walked in off the street were served quicker. Got the classic "What was your order again?" at around 5:35. Dont think I'll be back in a hurry. Food was ok, Carol's cafe in Invergordon is much missed.

Got a takeaway from here for our family. I thought everything was really good (fish supper, scampi and chips, kids sausage and chips, kids fish nuggets and chips). I did notice it was saltier than most fish and chips I’ve had. I didn’t mind this at all but one of my kids didn’t favor it. Also really liked the homemade tartar sauce. My husband said the owner and people serving in the restaurant were very friendly and easy going as well. We may even get another take away while we are up here on our holiday. Would definitely recommend this place for a fish supper if you are in the area. Not greasy or heavy feeling at all!!

Mum and Dad went past last night and picked up a Fish Supper and a Kids Jumbo Sausage supper. I had the Kids Jumbo Sausage supper which was really nice. Not greasy and fresh tasting chips. Nice touch with the Fish sauce that Dad was given a little tub of Tartar sauce

Family of four had an amazing fish tea. Fish was lovely and fresh with crispy batter. Mushy peas, mug of tea and fresh bread and butter. Exceptionally clean, seating area was immaculate as was the toilet. Staff very competent and friendly

My husband and myself popped in here today and had a lovely fish tea! The fish was the best we have eaten! And it takes a lot to beat the chippy at ibrox! Only one small detail I would like and that is if the plate itself was a bit bigger! We had trouble finding space for our mushy peas! We will be back!
