The French Table Restaurant in Kingston upon Thames

This is in my opinion a proper restaurant, the food excellent, the service excellent and the atmosphere relaxed. I have been in the industry for over 40 years and have eaten in many Michelin star restaurants and this is easily in that category, my congratulations to the chef and maitre’d for their hard work and staff guidance. Quite how I have never found this restaurant before is beyond me but I will definitely be returning

Absolutely amazing place. The food is sensational, the wine pairing is extremely well judged and the service is exceptional. Great value for what you get, the entire experience is flawless. Highly recommend booking a table.

Upmarket bistro experience in Surbiton. This is a very popular spot which has been around for 23 years apparently so best to reserve in advance. We opted for the à la carte menu rather than the tasing menu. The cooking is certainly accomplished, and our starter of scallops and morels was very good indeed. However, the mains were a tad bland albeit well executed and presented. The biggest letdown were the deserts which lacked any inventiveness and were quite basic. Service was great throughout and as expected the prices were on the high side. Might give it another try later in the year.

Discrete, knowledgeable and attentive service. We were placed at a window table on the ground floor with a view across this intimate restaurant. The taster menu was interesting without being over challenging. The paired wines were varied and well planned. It’s not cheap, but we left full and satisfied. They treated my friend, who was celebrating his birthday, with a few nice touches which really made it a special occasion. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant, and will definitely be returning.

Wow! This is exactly what you need to unwind and savour a delightful dinner

Every now and again we treat ourselves to an evening at The French Table - and it has never disappointed. Yes, it's expensive, but it's also difficult to fault. At around £60 a head for a three-course dinner, it's actually good value for the suburbs. With half-litre carafes of a tasty Alsace and a rounded red from Piedmonte, we felt mellow and satisfied at the end. The staff are so well-drilled, so knowledgeable, so efficient; a remarkable team from kitchen to table. We dithered about ordering the pea gazpacho as a starter, but opted for the warm egg at one side of the table, and a beef special on the other. Then the restaurant surprised us by adding an amuse bouche of that cold soup as well - and it was one of the highlights. Nestling in the deep green emulsion are nuggets of pickled peach, giving a sweet bonus alongside the crunch of macademia nuts. A triumph. My soft-boiled egg with salad, encased in a parmesan dome, was top-notch. As was my roast cod main, on asparagus spears. The waitress's tip to add a bowl of green beans was a good one; some vegetable crunch as accompaniment. Puds? Pannacotta is always a winner. The service charge is added automatically, and isn't begrudged in the slightest. When you opt for perfect dining, you have to pay for it. In total, £225 for two. But give me that any day rather than half a dozen indifferent meals at other establishments. The French Table strives for excellence, and achieves it in all departments.

It was our 25th wedding anniversary and on arrival our table was tastefully dressed to commemorate the occasion. We had the tasting menu and it was superb from start to finish. Food was excellent, service was attentive but not over the top, the staff made us feel welcome and helped us celebrate the occasion. I would highly recommend the French Tarte for the outstanding food and service. Thank you

Everything was fantastic. Delicious tasting menu with paired wines. Superb service. They have a slightly annoying buzz on their audio set up, though - easily fixed, I’d have thought… looking forward to going back asap.

Another excellent meal at The French Table - our second visit and we will be back. The service from initial booking to returning of coats is exceptional and the food is amazing - this time we had a pair of teens with us who loved it . Special mention to the huge range of home made breads that went down really well.

The staff went out of their way to make a special occasion even more special despite it being a busy Saturday night. The food was showed thoughtful confident cooking stylish presentation. We had a great time.

Superb food, excellent attentive service and a lovely vibe, only ruined slightly by noisy pair on the table next us to talking too loudly, but of no fault of the restaurant.

Outstanding food, our starters and main courses were flawless. I had Stone bass for the first time and it was cooked perfectly in a sumac butter with a delicious carrot and muscle purée. My friend had the special which was guineafowl which was delicious. Our desserts were delightful and the special menu there was a strawberry soufflé which my friend described like eating strawberry clouds

As usual, we were welcomed back and enjoyed a wonderful lunch, with delicious wines in a very friendly atmosphere. We had the tasting menu, all of which was extremely tasty. Thoroughly recommend.

The menu choices were varied and complimented each course. The service was first class and the staff were well informed. Although the restaurant was reasonably full we did not feel we were on top of each other and sat at a table in the conservatory area.

As always The French Table was outstanding in all respects. The three course menu was superb, the staff are always helpful particularly regarding the choice of wine and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Would definitely recommend it without hesitation. It’s a very special restaurant.

Great food and great service! The decor in the restaurant itself needs a bit bit of loving for a top French restaurant. Not a showstopper though.

We were originally booked upstairs but then received a call to say we had been put downstairs. We were shown to a window table and felt quite squashed in, the table kept wobbling and so did my chair. Each time the waiting staff walked past they knocked into my chair. We were also sat very near the other window table who were quite loud which spoilt the occasion somewhat. The food was good, quite small mains. My starter was a prawn pate with nothing to mop it up and was also served in a little bowl which meant when the serving staff came to clear they dropped the fork covered in food in front of me narrowly missing my dress, explaining to me that this happens frequently.. We ordered a cheese platter as we had had it last time we came. This time it was much smaller portions and when you already pay for a dessert but are charged £8 extra for cheese it seemed very expensive. I remember really enjoying the honey with the cheese platter last time but there was a tiny bit given this time. Not sure if they had run out to be honest? It was also really hot in the room so sadly for us it didnt seem worth paying nearly £400 especially when two of us had only two courses.

Another excellent meal here, this time with two friends who had very much wanted to come back after their previous visit. My wife and one of our friends had the soft-boiled egg and asparagus starter. Our friend's egg was nearly hard boiled, and as he commented on it with the head waiter close by, she unprompted brought him another excellently cooked one. My eel starter was a bit strong. Mains of duck, cod, beef and a special pork two ways were all top-notch. Desserts good and light, not oversweet too.

Always perfection. Flavour combinations like you wouldn’t believe. Every dish is sublime. I can just about squeeze in 3 courses but it’s so hard not to fill up on the outstanding and unlimited bread! Last night’s cocktail (Smoky Banana) was insanely good too. Staff are wonderful.

Excellent as always. The food is not only presented beautifully but also of the highest quality. The service is welcoming and attentive without being overbearing or too familiar. My only slight niggle was a cool draft which may have stemmed from me sitting next to the dining room door which was closed but somehow still produced some cold air.

We had a lovely evening at the French Table. We chose the tasting menu and everything was delicious. The matching wines were great too. Originally we could only book for 9pm but the restaurant moved our booking forward so that we could have the tasting menu (which has to be ordered by 8.45). Thanks very much for accommodating us. Our only slight niggle was that the earlier courses felt a little rushed, maybe because our booking was later than others and there were a number of courses to get through. But all in all it was a wonderful evening and we will definitely be back.

I have been coming to the French Table for many years and it never disappoints. The food and service is always amazing and it has a lovely welcoming atmosphere.

Why the French Table does not have a Michelin star I do not know. From the minute we stepped onto the restaurant, as always we were treated like royalty. The food is beautifully presented and tastes exquisite. Service is perfect, not in your face like some restaurants, but always there when needed. The home made bread is to die for and the souffle for desert is truly perfection on a plate. We will be back soon

We had a delicious meal at The French Table last night. A special mention goes to the beef dish, which was perfectly cooked and the flavour of the whole dish was amazing. The bread was also delicious, as always. My apricot dessert was a real treat, I'm very fussy about desserts in general, so it was a pleasant surprise. The service was exceptional, sorting out an issue with one dish with efficiency. Overall, my partner and I left with big smiles on our faces and looking forward to our next visit.

Cannot state how good the food and the service were. If you haven't been you need to go. They had really good vegetarian options for my wife too. I had one of the cocktails, which was delicious, and my wife had wine, also delicious. Really tasty bread made in house at the start of the evening, which I could easily have filled up on, amazing starters and mains and the best souffle ever for dessert. Compliments to the chef for the rise and taste on that. We will definitely be going back.

Always a good place for me. Prices tend to be on the increase though compared to pre-pandemic times which makes a visit an occasion whereas once it was a regular haunt of mine. Food portions are generous and very reliable and delicious fare.

We had a delicious dinner on 24th April to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary with our two daughters and their respective husbands. We have been to TFT before for celebrations and we have never been disappointed, thank you.

The French table never fails to impress. We had the lunch tasting menu and the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. This is by far the best place to have an incredible dining experience.

We had a celebration meal at lunchtime, which stretched all afternoon. The staff were more than accommodating, with extra touches to make our day special. The food was magnificent, with absolute attention to detail and flavour. Good wine list and advice on matching. We were delighted by the whole thing and will return many times.

Pleasant and attentive staff, food was good but not quite as excellent as previous visits. Prices are lower than most restaurants of this standard, and service is excellent. Despite the tasting menu not being as excellent as last time, I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food. Wine flight was also reasonable and quite well matched.

Visit once or twice every year on special occasions, it is consistently excellent.

TFT is where we celebrate all our family’s big occasions. It’s special without being pretentious, the food is consistently exceptional - I’ve never had a bad or even unremarkable meal here - and compared to many high-end dining experiences it offers great value for money.

We took my parents for their 60th birthday and they made special menus with their names on it and decorated the table. The food was amazing and the service was perfect. Absolutely loved it

This was our first visit to The French Table and we had high expectations - perhaps too high. However the food was mostly delicious and the service adequate. The house champagne was very good but we would have appreciated the advice of a sommelier when it came to choosing the wine.

Great food, service and ambience in this very dependable restaurant in Surbiton

Everything was very good, service was excellent food very good, we had the tasting menu which was very good. The beef course was just a little disappointing in that it was a little chewy. We look forward to visiting again soon. All your staff were very very friendly and gave great service. Steve Holland

Unusually we chose the lunch rather than the tasting menu. I had the two "specials" (they always have some which, rather annoyingly, they don't tell you about until after you have chosen) - quail; beef loin. Both excellent. Not cheap, but very good.

As always our experience at The French Table was fabulous.. Estelle and Sarah always make sure we feel cherished as guests which make us come back time and time again. The food is always excellent too, you never have to worry about it. Thank you team
