In the past this was one of my very favourite places to eat. Standards have fallen - a lot! My Cod cheek starter was very very good. My main of Coq au Vin was hugely over cooked - to the point where I would say it had been cooked 2 days earlier, and I was getting reheated leftovers. The bacon and shallots were bullet like.

We dined at this restaurant whilst visiting Ludlow for a short break, and were not disappointed. It's a very small restaurant and we would have thought that prior booking is essential. The food was beautifully cooked, and our only comment would be the size of the portions, which were too large for all of us. Very good service and an asset to the town.

The French Pantry is a little gem. The menu has so many options, it's hard to choose. Everything we ate was full of flavour and the quality of the meat was top class. We will definitely travel to Ludlow again just to eat at the French Pantry on a special occasion.

My sister and brother-in-law who live near Ludlow recommended this place and a I can see why. Small but perfectly formed, this place is a gem. Lovely, welcoming staff, service that's not too quick, not too slow, and a menu that makes choosing a meal a really difficult but pleasurable staff. Among the many highlights that the three of us indulged in was the best French onion soup I've ever had, confit of lamb shank, confit of duck, beef cheeks with black pudding, and a cracking creme brulee with pistachio ice cream. Great wine list to choose from too and for such high-quality food, reasonably priced. I'm quite envious of my little sister leaving close to such a superb restaurant.

Unassuming from the roadside but don't be fooled, this little gem delivers. My wife and I had lunch. This place is all about the food. Warm welcome from the staff who showed us to our table. Great selection of authentic french dishes. I had the snails followed by cassoulet. Both dishes were delicious. My wife had the cheese and charcouterie board followed by the duck breast. Portions were great and we shared a pud, a sumptuous creme brulee. Washed down with a nice bottle of Malbec. Recommend giving this place a try but make sure you book.

We visited the French Pantry on our first night of our stay in Ludlow. We had a very warm welcome from the staff and were shown to our table. There were not too many tables which made the atmosphere quite personal. The menu had a great range of classic French dishes. The French onion soup and chicken liver parfait for starters were sublime, as was the Cassoulet Toulousain Style and the Gressingham Duck Breast , Garlic Sauteed & Truffle cream Sauce main courses. The portions were generous, so much so that we could not manage a dessert. Dishes were reasonably priced as were a selection of the wine list. A very nice meal and i would not hesitate to eat there again. Booking is highly recommended and walkins probably unlikely to get a table unless you go early.

Charming little restaurant in the very heart of Ludlow serving delicious authentic French dishes. I know snails aren't to everyone's taste but they were delicious. The setting, the food, the staff all excellent. An actual little piece of France tucked away in Ludlow. I can recommend, the onion soup, the confit duck and all 3 of the starters that I ordered (crab, eel, snails). We had a wonderful lunch to kick off our first break since last spring. The whole vibe felt really authentic and the food was excellent. I have the Parfait followed by the cassoulet and both were outstanding. My wife went double starter with French Onion soup and Crab. We have had many examples of French Onion soup in various locations around the world and this one was right up there with the very best. The prices are maybe a £ or two more than you might pay in an average gastro pub and it is so worth it.

This place had been recommended to us by the owner of the accommodation we were staying at in Ludlow for the weekend, so we called ahead and booked a table for a Saturday night. It is not a big place so I would imagine booking is essential, especially at the weekend. Whilst being small, the tables were spaced out enough to maintain social distancing. The staff made us feel very welcome, and service was quick, attentive, but not too much. You can order two or three courses from their menu (you can't just order a main, to be aware). We ordered a main each and a dessert. I had the mussels, which were absolutely plentiful - so much I couldn't finish them. They came with very hot, fresh french fries on the side, but again it was a shame I became too full too quick to finish them. My husband ordered the chicken cassoulet. He very much enjoyed this and when I also tasted it, the flavours were incredible. For dessert I ordered the creme brulee which came up just as you'd expect if you ordered this in France, and my husband ordered a selection of cheese which came with some fresh crusty bread. I don't know how my husband finished it all, the portions certainly weren't shy of being small. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this restaurant and found the prices very reasonable for the quality of food and service received. Would definitely recommend this place if visiting Ludlow.

I had the salmon and brie strudel, which was delicious and the free Range Chicken Breast a L’estragon with Fries and mixed veg which was so tasty. Can't recommend it highly enough. One point to note that it didn't have a vegetarian option, which was fine for us as my husband is pescetarian, but TripAdvisor - NOT THE RESTAURANT - advertise it as vegetarian friendly, they have tried to get this removed on TripAdvisor, but to no avail. I point this out as I wouldn't want them to get any negative reviews because of this as it is a fantastic restaurant.

Had an outstanding meal here last night. Beautiful intimate and romantic setting, wonderful service and incredible food! We had 3 courses for £29.95 which for the standard of food we had felt like exceptional value for money. For starters I had the crab mousse in a saffron butter sauce which was delicate yet rich and absolutely delicious. I was tempted to lick the bowl! My boyfriend had French Onion soup which he said was insanely good (unfortunately I didn't get a photo) For mains I had sea bass with mascarpone risotto and a cockle sauce. My boyfriend had Confit Duck leg with garlicky potatoes and a prune jus. Again both courses were superb and could not have been improved in any way. The sea bass was so fresh and melted in the mouth, perfectly cooked. We also ordered a side of mixed vegetables and these were lovely and fresh and a very generous portion. We shared a cheese board for dessert and this was a beautiful selection of cheeses served with warm crusty baguette which was so delicious. Saturday night dinner at the newly reopened French Pantry, with proper French cooking. A sensibly sized menu with a good variety of starters and mains, and a fairly priced wine list. Hereford snails and lobster ravioli were followed by herb and breadcrumb seasoned sea bass on risotto, and perfectly cooked chicken in a tarragon sauce. A small chunk of France in the heart of Ludlow is a combination hard to beat. The bistro atmosphere is enhanced by an excellently-balanced menu. Often smaller restaurants offer vast wine lists and limited menus, but here the extensive choice of starters and mains created a delightful dilemma. Olivier's years of experience and pride in his skills result in a delightful and relaxed evening with a friendly welcome from the family team. Delighted to find the French Pantry back in operation under a new chef-patron with the past best forgotten. Decor little changed (why waste money?) and menu still has a welcome bistro vibe with the kind classic dishes that Paris used to do so well until Paris lost the plot. At lunchtime the gratin of sea-food was superb, loaded generously with perfectly cooked scallops but lobster ravioli or duck confit looked equally tempting. Criticisms? Service a bit slow (but there you go if you want stuff freshly cooked) and coffee (from a pod machine) rather overpriced. We'll definitely be back.

It would be worth pre-booking a table for this quite popular restaurant. The ambiance and decor is interesting, although not exactly intimate, but it is a friendly and pleasant venue for a good meal. The menu is quite varied, food was delicious, service was fast (but not rushed) and friendly. Portions were fairly generous and the food reasonably priced (2 courses for £23 & 3 courses for £29). We have not visited since new management took over and just called in for coffee. We ordered two flat whites. That’s exactly what we got. Two cups of flat beige liquid. Not a sign of a bubble or foam and very little taste of coffee. Why is it so difficult to get it right. Every backstreet bar cafe or bistro in France can serve excellent coffee and there are far better coffee shops in Ludlow. Come on guys, you’re going to have to step up your game if you’re going to survive. Just pop into Taste or the chiccetti bar if you need to see how it’s done. It’s a shame really. If the coffee had been good we might have been tempted back on another occasion to try the food.

We really enjoyed our meals which were all delicious! Great service, lovely ambience and altogether a wonderful evening. Thank you Alice and Co!

Our first visit since it changed hands. Very quiet for a weekend lunchtime. A well meaning waitress. Limited menu, reasonable ingredients but salad leaves were 'tired'.

Trust me it really hurts to write this review. We have been regular customers for years and this was our favourite restaurant in Ludlow but sadly no more.

We had lunch (mushrooms and brie on sourdough) here, which was very tasty in an informal setting. The service was very friendly and efficient.

Joined friends for a meal in this small but friendly restaurant. Menu not huge but quality good, staff lovely and on a filthy night weather wise it was cosy. The banquette we sat on was made of material so we didnt stick to it which was really nice!

Excellent little place. Coriander prawns with avocado for both followed by Duck Confit and seabream. Both superb. Nothing else we fancied off the menu so only went once.

Saturday night at the French pantry what a delight! The atmosphere and buzz of this place is great! People drinking outside, great food inside a real hub and great mix of people, my fish dish was all about the fish and what great fish is was! My partner had the beef which melted in the mouth and our friends had the lamb which was cooked to perfection and the Moroccan flavours where just right! All of our puddings where equally as brilliant, the salted Carmel roulade is too die for!! I wanted second helpings my partner and friends shared a creme brûlée and lemon tart but wasn’t sharing my pud! Finally this place was packed so BOOK your table! It was like dining in the owners sitting room! Will definitely be back!

I am a fair reviewer and having had a good meal here when it under previous ownership, we thought we’d try it again. A pleasant venue with a nice ambience - a little marred by some loud friends of the management having a very vocal ‘Bromance’ in the doorway for about half an hour.

This is a restaurant without pretension that delivers perfectly on what it does. We had an excellent celebratory meal there yesterday. Service is welcoming, efficient (without being rushed) and professional. For mains we enjoyed hake and a perfectly made goat's cheese and cashew nut wellington. And very reasonably priced too!

We were on our way to a pub for dinner when we decided to stop here instead. We were glad we did! Space was a little tight but it made for a nice ambiance. We all had the beef bourguignon which was very good despite it being a hot summers day outside! We also tried apple tart and lemon tart and creme brûlée. All very good but lemon tart could have been tarter. Service was friendly even though there was only one lady front of house she managed everyone in a friendly and efficient way.

This is run as a traditional French restaurant with a fixed price menu with a sensibly limited choice. Good service and really good food. It's small so do book.

What a treasure this restaurant is. Small but perfectly formed I would say. Run by two young men, the menu was a little limited but the food exquisite and made a memorable anniversary dinner. Very French.

Visiting Ludlow on a Monday we found that most restaurants were closed but the French Pantry was open so we booked to eat there. We started off with a gin and tonic, choosing from their extensive range. I have rhubarb and ginger with ginger ale and my husband had the surprise gin with tonic. It turned out to be marshmallow gin and was delicious. The set menu was quite varied and I started with pie d'anglos cheese warmed and served with warm bread, it was delicious. Then I had fish pie which again was excellent. I finished with a very nice apple frangipani. So pleased they were open on a Monday or I might not have booked there.

We had a very tasty lunch with friends, and were delighted that no effort was made to rush us along after we'd finished. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed. A little bit pricy, but worth it for the overall experience.

We were staying in Ludlow and looking for somewhere to eat and saw the reviews on Trip Advisor so decided to book a table. I asked if there was a menu available online to have a look at but was told there was not, however the owner said he would email one to me. This was done swiftly and gave us the opportunity to decide what we would order. The Bistro is a charming little place and the food very good being very different to the usual ‘pub grub’ offered in many other places. If you like an ambient atmosphere, in charming surroundings, with helpful and pleasant staff together with a ‘ menu with french influences ‘ this is well worth a visit.
