Lovely place. We were here for a birthday lunch with my family

We had an enjoyable lunch chatting and drinking wine. The food wasn't as good as I expected. There were little things wrong with most of the dishes, I had hoped for better

I have eaten here many times over the years and the food is always very good. Staff are helpful and friendly with excellent service. I had the fish cake on spinach with a mustard sauce and poached egg for lunch which was wonderful. I definitely would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Went for lunch and left feeling disappointed. What promised to be a cozy pub lunch was not great. Two of us sat on the edge of a long table and it was very draughty. The service was not brilliant - food was slow to arrive and we had to signal over to the bar for drinks to be replenished. Beyond that, it was significantly overpriced for the quality of the food. It was fine but not worth the price. A Xmas sandwich at £14 (with no sides I might add). We went to another restaurant nearby for a coffee afterwards and the same sandwich was £6.50

Nice looking bar but a large glass so so Shiraz will cost you £13!! I felt thoroughly shafted!

We had a great dinner here. My steak was excellent. The atmosphere is really nice. Upscale pub feel. Missed the five star mark just barely because the beer was kind of warm - as was the room we were in upstairs. Service was a little slow at the end of our meal. Otherwise top notch. Would certainly eat here again.

Pre-dinner birthday drinks a gin cocktail, pint of Stowford and packet of crisp £21. Not cheap but for the quality of the cocktail (v gd, wish I'd ordered the espresso Martini) and surroundings about right. Our only issue really was even though we'd pointed out we would be there for just 30 mins we were sent outside on what was becoming a very chilly evening when most of the tables inside were free when we arrived and when we left. (Booked by diners for later that evening).

Cosy wooden styled bar adorned aptly named with horse portraits on the walls. Christmas decorations accompany the seasonal hot mulled wine and Christmas cocktails. Walk outside to the Wooden Lodge type bar where there is music and additional social gathering areas. This bar is located just inside the right hand side of entrance of the Angel Hotel. There are menus incase you fancy food with table service or a bite to eat.

If you are looking for a beautiful family run pub then look no further than the Foxhunter. Nice enough pub grub but the service far exceeds that of most places. Andy behind the bar was incredible and the owners are very happy to interact with the customers. Will definitely come again!

We always enjoy visiting the Angel whenever we are in Abergavenny and the extremely talented bar man, Mo, makes the best gin and tonics possible.

Weird environment and massively overpriced. I had the vegetarian curry which was a pretty small portion consisting of 3 bits of aubergine and 4 bits of butternut squash... for £14!! I’ve never written a restaurant review before but felt I had to after leaving hungry and feeling ripped off. 0/5

Feels a bit confused as to if they’re trying to be a homely pub, a posh restaurant or an edgy bar. Veggie option was very overpriced (veggie curry same price as pheasant pie?!)

Solo diner taking a chance. Boy am I going back there again? You bet! No salmon available so I gave chef a free hand. Sauteed pots, green beans in garlic, bass fillet topped with asparagus. Pint of Guinness.....all for less than twenty quids!!! Amazing skills and quality. BB Cardiff 7 May 2025
