The blonde manager is rude. I think she was on break. She asked us not blocked the fire exit which was not true. As she was blocking it herself. Would not recommend this place at all.

Fab choice of drinks at very decent prices, just like any other Wetherspoons. Quite a rowdy spot, but pleasant nonetheless.

It was slightly after dusk as the weekend started to set into place. It was not just 22 March 2024. It was a Friday night where one of my oldest and dearest friends returned from his American 6-month voyage. His choice was to go to a pub renowned for a great time called Fox on the Hill, Denmark Hill. I did not moan about it being on the other side of the river Thames from my home as I tend to do. I felt a sense of maturity had whiffed over me and I simply replied 'yes' to the RSVP. The necessity for all great meet ups were decided including time, who's coming and the preference of socialising indoors or outdoors happened organically. After many months away each one of my friends were delighted to see the one that had returned. Many hugs were exchanged and moments of laughter felt like they could have lasted a lifetime. Followed by a flow of welcome drinks to make the catch up feel more official and slightly grown up. A consistent flow of beers which included San Miguel, Stella Artois and so on. There were orders of chips and beyond meat burgers which complimented the steady evening's ascent into more uncontrollable laughter. After that point of the evening more drinks were demarcated to make up for lost socialising time and the occasion was fun until silly o'clock. Fox on the Hill remains one of Denmark Hill's best kept secrets and may I thank my friend for the introduction to this drinking institution. P.S. Welcome back mate.

I'm extremely disappointed by the unacceptable treatment my family and I received at the pub tonight March 22nd. Despite arriving, ordering food at 20:25 and patiently waiting for our meal that arrive at 20:55, we were confronted by a security guard who rudely insisted we leave within 5 minutes. This came as a shock since we were NEVER informed of any time restrictions. We complied, intending to finish our meal promptly. However, matters worsened when a supervisor named Adrian joined in, raising his voice in front of the children, exacerbating the embarrassment and disappointment of the situation. This behaviour was not only unprofessional but also deeply upsetting, especially for my nephew who witnessed the entire ordeal.

Service very slow, bar staff not welcoming/friendly at all. Lots of empty tables still with dirty plates and glasses from previous occupants. Clearly understaffed. Tables were sticky/dirty. Steak was tough and very fatty, not gourmet as sold on the menu. If you are looking for cheap food, this is the place, otherwise stay clear!

Cheap food. The pub appears to have a queuing system which isn't even made clear to people entering the pub. The staff are rude and disinterested, even when you offer constructive feedback.

Fantastic breakfast, had dealings with Megan (Duty Manager) , Megan couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful, a fantastic representative of Witherspoon's, if everyone was as helpful trips out would be so much more relaxed, thanks you Megan for all your help, well done Spoon's she is a credit to your conpany

Very bad service and that includes the manager who was very unprofessional not a enjoyable night 1 star ⭐️

We went on Sunday 18th June. It is a large pub but only had two working tills. They are a Wetherspoons and there were notices up saying it would be quicker to use the app. We waited 25 minutes and only got our first drink after complaining to a waiter. I queued to order food and a second drink, but one of the meals I wanted to order was out of stock, so I had to return to the table and use the app again. 40 minutes later and after two complaints the food arrived. It was of average quality and portions have decreased in size since I was last in a Wetherspoons. I may have got a bad day, but tables went uncleared all the time we were in there, customer service was non-existent and yet the pub (inside) was half empty. A woeful, never to be repeated experience!

The bar staff are the worst and rude and particularly the African one who can't even take a proper order.

Best beer garden in south London. Great value for money drinks and food, good selection of cask ales. What’s not to like? Well I’ll tell you what’s not to like. A totally bizarre and infuriating queueing system is in operation at the bar, which means getting a drink takes 15 mins and leaves you nursing minor trauma as you finally get back to your table with a drink. The problem is that we do not have a culture of queuing at bars in this country, so anyone who’s not a regular at the pub cuts in the queue because they don’t realise there is a queue, because why would they? In my experience most of these queue jumpers get served while only a handful get told to go to the back of the queue. So you have wait for all the people in front of you in the queue as well as all the unknowing queue jumpers to get served before you can get served yourself. The feeling of injustice as this unfolds while i wait like a good little boy in the queue drives me absolutely mad and sends my anxiety through the roof. I surely can’t be the only one thinking this? STOP THE QUEUE MADNESS!

Dogs are not allowed -not only at the pub but also at the outside premises. Since when this is a norm in the UK? This pub is next door to a large park that is very popular with dog owners, I'm surprised the managers do not see this being a stupid idea from a commercial point of view. I will never visit again on that basis. With my dog or without.

Lovely place, very friendly and cozy atmosphere. The meal and drink deals are great! Good food and amazing value for money. If you don't want to spend too much, and want a nice place to go........ worth a visit.

My wife and I called in for breakfast and we were delighted with our food. The service was great and all staff we met were friendly and helpful. No complaints from me!

The service was spectacularly poor. Lot’s of staff all lacking directions and no customer focus. I ordered drinks on the app twice. After 20 minutes I had to request manually and then second round I gave it 15 minutes. Same again. Table I sat at I nearly stuck to it. Not sure last time it saw a detergent. Nice looking pub. Mr Spoons needs to put in a decent leader to sort out roles, responsibility and some training on the use of the app!

My first impressio was it's so lovely looking but when I walked into the pub was Yuck! I it looked dirty and unloved. I should have left straight away but my sister had arranged for eight of us to meet up for a get together (they live quite a distance away we decided to stay). I got there early around 12.30pm and went looking for seats a clean area with seats were hard to find some of the seats were absolutely filthy and the tables unclean ( bear in mind this was 12.30 in the afternoon) luckily I had wet wipes to clean the area we sat at. There was no floor service so we went to the bar to order drinks and food which was a pretty easy process. We wanted to pay by splitting the bill three ways but the bar staff said it couldn't be done. The food came relatively quickly, the drinks were fine but the meal was far from tasty and every one was disappointed. I can only comment on my meal so when the food arrived it looked un-appetising, it was nothing like I was assured to expect from a witherspoon establishment, I had the small mixed grill and it was awful! the only thing on the plate that was tasty was a small mushroom the rest consisting of four tiny pieces of cremated steak and gammon which looked like it was re-heated left over scrap from the day before a few chips and a quarter tomato. I am writing this review so that anyone who is thinking about visiting The Fox on the Hill Denmark Hill Camberwell must not judge it by it's outside appearance the food I ate today was awful!

Lovely pub, yes its a spoons, drinks are cheap, food is average, staff are sweet despite being run off their feet, my only gripe is the ladies toilets are a disaster, five out of seven cubicles are out of order..please can you fix this as the situation is pretty dire..plumbers arent that hard to come by..

This is a typical Wetherspoons. Cheap and cheerful. The food was fine and arrived quickly. However the staff if you could get their attention we’re downright rude. Other customers were complaining or storming out. Management needs to get a grip on this.

Been here twice and they have this idiotic queueing service to buy a drink. Turned around and walked to the Grove Tavern which was a much better experience, simply because it's run like a normal pub.

Best view of london eye I ever saw. 50 minutes for a pint - but they let us drink our own prosecco. Smoked a cigar in the lovely garden (non-smoking area). Nice egg. The blonde was tastier than the curry sauce.

Although breakfast has increased in price by 37p since my last visit, it was served hot on this occasion. For £3.95 you can’t argue with that and £1 for unlimited coffee. Worth a visit.

Came in for breakfast. The pub was clean and pleasant. The staff friendly and helpful dealing with covid restrictions in a helpful way.

Ein gemütliches englisches Lokal etwas außerhalb vom Zentrum beim John Ruskin Park in Denmark Hill. Wer hier hin geht sollte keine Haute Cuisine erwarten. Das Essen ist einfache englische Hausmannskost - die Erbsen kommen wahrscheinlich aus der TK-Truhe. Dafür ist der Preis unschlagbar und die Bierauswahl riesig. Für ein Fleischgericht inklusive ein Pint Bier vom Fass habe ich umgerechnet etwa 10€ gezahlt.

I waited and waited and waited at the bar to be served on a Friday afternoon at 3.30pm. There were hardly any customers. I just wanted a coffee! Looking quite worn out inside. The booth we sat in had a broken window frame. Really tatty.

No matter how dead it is, it’s guaranteed that you’ll be waiting a minimum of ten minutes for someone to acknowledge that you’re waiting to be served.Lots of staff walking around and up and down the bar floor but it’s a fight to get one of them to actually serve you. Every tine I’ve been here, I actually have to call for someone to ask if anyone is serving before it’s even noticed that I’m waiting for a drink.The beers are good and there’s a massive, lovely beer garden. for starters, the floor is dirty and even the carpet actually sticky. filthy. staff doesnt care about "customers" (they guys who give £££ to the establishment): waited, were ignored, others arrived later but were serviced before us, manager walked by and ignored guest, we did numerous "excuse me" to no avail. no choice but to leave. wont come back.

My friend and I went there on a Thursday evening. We ordered Nachos and two curry’s, as it was curry night. After a long wait the nachos arrived, but without guacamole, when we questioned it, we were told they didn’t have any! I received my main. but my friends was completely forgotten, which ended up, with me eating on my own. After we told the waitress, she said she would find out. 45 minutes later my friends meal arrived. Most of the staff are totally rude and can’t be bothered with customers and are unprofessional. The tables are not cleaned and it just looks shabby. We were not given or offered a receipt. I have contacted J D Wetherspoon about five times, but without a response.

This place is a real shambles, no menu on the table, so ask the bar staff, who eventually give me one. Sit down, have a look, remember the table number, but oh no, we have run out of what I wanted. Return to table, another look at the menu, back to the bar.....no sorry we have a run out of that too.....back to the table, then the bar to be told that I have an old menu. Decide to go elsewhere. This is the second and last time I will go to this Weathespoons. Heaven know what Tim will be doing after Brexit. Might just stop going to any of his places !

Unfortunately I could not get served here. Ill set the scene… I arrived at 9.45 pm . I work shifts so this was my first pint of the day. I know this spoons has a massive outdoor area and knowing it was the hottest day of the year I was expecting it to be extremely busy. I was pleasantly surprised to see it only half full inside and out. I was therefore very surprised to see the pub look like a absolute tip. (glasses everywhere , rubbish on the floor , dirty plates, no tables cleaned, customers pissing in the garden!) There where blackboards by the bar telling you to queue “here” and to the right. I did this and waited n a queue. I waited for five minutes and the queue had not gone down. To make matters worse there where other queues randomly starting up everywhere. I was in a queue with 10 people in front of me. If I added up the other queues I Would guess there where at least 30 groups of people waiting. As someone who has worked in the pub trade and managed pub budgets I understand staffing to be the biggest cost. However this pub is massively understaffed and who’s ever in charge of the staffing levels and the budges should be out of a job. At the very least 15 to 20extra staff where needed. I understand it was a busy day, but by the time I had arrived the pub was half full and it would have taken me at least 20 to 30 minutes to order a pint. It’s a shame as Wetherspoons as a company are fantastic but this pub has to be one of the worst badly managed pubs ive ever seen.

Having just sold a bicycle, I thought I’d pop in here on my way back and spend some of the profit on a highly-affordable pint of lager. Sat outside in their large garden and read the paper with a £2.55 Carlsberg.

A fan of Wetherspoon’s I was happy to try this pub but was humiliated by the barman for not joining the queue. I had no idea that the people at the bar were in a queue never having seen this in a pub before (great idea if you know about it). I then had a truly awful steak on a terrace full of smokers despite numerous signs saying “No Smoking on Terrace”. All in all a very disappointing visit.

The staff were excellent. We order stead and it comes like we expected one well one and the other meddium we enjoy our food. the cheaps and salad are small portion it could be better if the salad will be better. we went with a car we know the free time and we control and left in time.

We went as a party of four, I wanted sirloin but there was only rump so hey no problem, two of us had steak, 1x lamb shank and ribs the food took about 30 minutes but was piping hot and tasty prices were reasonable but you had to wait for drinks at the bar all in all cheap and cheerful but a lovely pub

An hour wait for our food, steak was like leather, items were missing. Staff were rude and abrupt. the pub is looking very tired on the verge of dirty. Not an experience I want to repeat.

Onion rings... recycled. Fried eggs - they cannot cook properly the yolk was almost grey... the lemon wedge for 9 pieces of scampi was a joke was a slice of skin with the smallest driest segment.

El personal es educado. La comida es basura. Parece que la ensalada es reciclada de un compostador local. La comida se coloca en el microondas hasta el punto de que no se pueda comer. ¿Cuál es el punto de quejarse? He estado usando este pub durante más de 25 años. Lamento decirlo, pero debería rebautizarse "THE FOX GONE DOWN THE HILL", esta es la primera crítica negativa que he puesto en cualquier establecimiento. Es bueno para una bebida, pero evite la llamada comida. La gente sale para una experiencia agradable, no esperando una buena cena, ¡pero realmente vamos! ! ! ! ! ! ! La gente debería al menos poder comerla. Los platos básicos que solías hacer bien ya no son aceptables. Esta revisión no lo afectará como negocio, tiene una excelente ubicación y siempre está ocupado. Pero eso no significa que los clientes deban ser tratados de esta manera.

Excellent location, but a Weatherspoon chain with all its limitations. I went there after a walk on Ruskin Park. Children were happy as the food is typical junk but if you want to eat well, give it a skip

Attended a wake and were well looked after by the staff and management. Food was of good quality and we were given a 'private' area. Well done.

Had a standard Wetherspoons lunch with my family. Fined £75 for staying 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Love coming here for a couple of pints. Cheap as you like, some interesting characters as you'd expect in any spoons, but absolutely brilliant rump steak this evening. Come here at least once a week!

Bar staff friendly, restaurant disaster i ordered cottage pie which i thought come out of a box luke warm/cold this come with hard peas and gravy on a big plate my cat wouldnt even eat that,and my husband had steak chips and peas tomartoe and that was luke warm/cold will not return

In September went to eat and drink on my birthday. It was fine, but imagine my surprise and dismay that my partner has today received a parking notice out of the blue. The parking notice states that it is the final and demanding 75 pounds.

I have just left after returning cold good yet again the manager was useless. When we asked for a refund she asked if the orange juice was ok as she didn't want to refund that...to which we replied we wanted to enjoy that with a hot breakfast. The manager was rude and flippant. Avoid...

I visited this restaurant on the 20th August for lunch with my daughter and the service was good.I ordered a drive through burger and a gourmet chicken burger and both meals were served hot and were excellent.The only slight downside was when the meal was brought to our table the waitress did not offer to get any sauces but apart from that I would visit again

Nasty pub, looks nice from the road but it goes downhill steeper than Denmark Hill once you step through the doors.

The place covers every aspect you could want, large outside area to front and back, conservatory, large indoor dining areas and plenty of parking. Food and service great.

Visited this establishment for a meal with 5 people . On the whole , the place is ok looking - a tad outdated and shabby .

The pub was busy and being a nice sunny evening we went to have our drinks on the benches in the large beer garden. Unfortunately a group of lads were openly smoking cannabis which was really off putting. Staff seemed unaware despite a glass collector being outside who must have been able to smell it. We left, unlikely to ever return.

Thought I’d take my daughters somewhere local for lunch, which has outdoor seating. Was very disappointed. Food was very bland, we all ordered different dishes and it seemed to taste the same. Nothing tasted good or was worth paying for. Will not be going back.

El Fox en la colina fue nuestra primera experiencia en un muy pub británico y no pude evitar sonreír en el ambiente en el comedor familiar y el área para comer al aire libre ya que era todo lo que esperábamos, pero al mismo tiempo tiene un buen ambiente del lugar.
