I had a very creditable steak and ale pie with chips and broccoli. Extra marks for al dente broccoli!

We sat on the balcony. Lovely views. Just had beer and crisps.

Good food. Wasn't impressed with the pint of Landlord tho.

We love coming here with our dog after a walk around Boar's Hill. The pub is cosy, and food is good. It'd be nice to see a bit more choice for vegans though!

Fantastic pub. Great food and portions. Good beer. Friendly service and lovely surroundings. Note the fox is open despite the website saying its closed and the phone not working due to some handover issues to the new management.

Great to have the Fox open again, Steve is a fantastic landlord and spoke to us about the menu and the local produce. The food is varied with daily specials, the mussels were to die for.

My husband and I walked up to the Fox and had lunch and drinks . I had the beef Bret burger it was famous when we moved here in 86 a little burger shack outside the train station .. fantastic ! These are the real deal thick well cooked and a choice of sauces ! Thick cut chips and a real bun not brioche and it was amazing ! My husband had a small fish and chips looked great he said it was really nice and he thought the mushy peas were fresh made as well as the tartare sauce !! Staff were lovely so we stayed had a couple more drinks reasonably priced too ! We were there Wednesday 18 th so open at 12pm . Will go back as heard the roast dinners are great too ! So glad it’s opened up again with great food .. so try it you won’t regret it !!! 😁Fabulous !

Drove past the Fox yesterday and noticed it had reopened, so popped in for lunch. I am glad we did the food was fantastic. In addition to their daily menu they were running Tapas Thursday. We opted for the Tapas and had 8 dishes, they were generous portions and tasted delicious

We only had a drink. Service very slow. Even though their were 4 staff behind bar and I was only customer apart from one other. Good pub though think landlord only just opened.

We had an amazing lunch there last Friday. The food was superb!

After the unfortunate death of the previous landlord the Fox was shut from January 2024 to August 2024. The new landlord, Steve, has introduced a very interesting menu as well as daily specials, such as Piri Piri chicken or home made Gnocchi. We have now eaten there twice and both meals were excellent. My first main course was sea bass on a bed of samphire, the second Moules mariniere. I would recommend both. People reading these reviews should ignore any reviews made before 2024. We will return.

Food was ok. Service was very slow (took two and a half hours to have a two course lunch). Thought the prices were high for what we had. Food was good. Service was still very slow. Gave the excess they had computer problems. Was not happy my car got side swiped by a yellow vehicle in the car park. They drove off leaving a lot of damage.

An outstanding establishment. Having just reopened, this pub really is a great place for a hearty meal. I visited tonight and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. A special shout out to our server jack ! who was warm , funny , efficient and made us feel right at home. a real credit to this establishment.

Went for a meal with my husband. As usual the food was exceptional and the service was great. The only issue was a family group with three small children who were running amok and shrieking (around 8pm) When we (and other patrons) asked for them to be controlled this was resolved however I don't believe customers should have to request this.

Four of us had a really delicious Sunday lunch including Hake with Jerusalem artichoke, Cod and chips, roast beef dinner, Cesar salad, sticky toffee pudding and tiramisu. All delicious. Really well prepared food. Excellent service, the team rallied around and sorted out our table after our guests were delayed and ensured we had a brilliant experience.

Sadly a real disappointment! This looked like a lovely pub however the service (or lack thereof) and uncleanliness really let it down. We had booked for lunch but had to order all our drinks at the bar, had to chase down waiters to order food and as soon as food arrived (nearly an hour after we arrived) we were then abandoned despite bar staff standing around chatting to staff and playing with children. A real lack of vegetables with the roast and the disabled loo/baby change was horrifically dirty with only a sanitary bin for all waste.

Lovely dog friendly pub with excellent food. Great place to break up our trip from Manchester to Portsmouth to have some great food and let the dog stretch his legs. We will be coming back every time we are in the area.

Had lunch here recently but very disappointed with the quality of the food. There were six of us and all said the same thing. Pub wasn't busy either, maybe that's why!

Outstanding food, fast service, friendly staff.

My partner and I are regular visitors to the wonderful pub!! We have never felt the need to leave a review, though after our lunchtime visit today, we both wanted to put down on record what a gem this is in the Oxfordshire countryside. Staff are always engaging, the chef is so very personal, always coming to your table to discuss menu choices. Today, we both started with the cheese and haddock soufflé, which were spectacular, followed by a beautifully cooked duck breast and ribeye steak, both were wonderful. This pub cannot be recommended high enough, when looking for an eatery I would say look no further than the Fox at Boars Hill!!

What a fabulous place with fabulous food! The roasted bone marrow starter and the lamb shoulder croquette were delicious. But the best part was definitely Tom the Landlord and chef who made us feel so welcome and looked after. We ended up going back the same day and will definitely be back again!

Nice pub in rural location but close to Oxford. Decent food and drink, only downside is compulsory 12.5%tips included. I don't really believe in big tips when there is a decent minimum wage these days and even if I did I would rather choose than have it added already.

Harry rescued us with top notch food after not being able to find any pubs on our way home that were serving food on a Monday. Great customer service, dinner very good, washed down with a decent pint. Decent pub, will visit again.

Called in on way back from visiting my dad at JR and was told after buying drinks that kitchen didn't open for almost 2 hours. Bar man didn't seem to know what he was doing, bar was full.of men drinking not a great atmosphere at all. Won't be back

First time visiting the Fox Inn at Boars Hill today and we all had a fantastic lunch. Dog friendly and we even got to meet the new owner and chef Tommy who was very welcoming. We’ll be back!

Absolutely fantastic pub! Great food and beer, an absolute gem.

Nice decor, beer and food. Felt the food was a bit expensive but still really enjoyed it. Kids meals are small portions of the adult menu which was ok for our little dustbins but if you have picky eaters you might struggle.

Lovely country pub with fantastic views to the rear. The food is sublime, the wine list has a great span, the ales are always in tip-top condition and the staff are great. Plenty of parking and the washrooms are reliably clean. It is rare to find a pub that ticks all the boxes quite so well. Top marks to The Fox.

We had lunch at The Fox last week. The food was tasty but cold. We had been waiting so long by then that I just didn’t have the heart to send it back. The pub was quite cold also and somewhat understaffed.

This is a great pub. The owner, Tommy, spent a lot of time making sure we had everything we need and was an absolute gentlemen. The food was amazing, especially the liver parfait, the whitebait and the steak. The real ales were great and the house red was perfect. I will be coming back here, it was great.

Came in for the second time in a couple of weeks and very refreshing to see an updated menu with some great specials. Really great atmosphere and lovely bar staff!

Very poor, service shocking. Staff unhelpful when asked for a table with level access. Starters arrived for half the party 20mins after the first ones. Main course was delayed then 2of our parties meals did not arrive one eventually turning up 20 minutes later after everyone else had finished. absolutely shambolic..

9 people booked, 4people got the starters on time. The rest came out missing bits 20mins later. It's now 1 hr since we ordered no mains still waiting you decide if you want to visit. I know I'm not. Appalling is the best I can offer.

Good food, reasonable price, service was a bit slow. Might have been slightly short on staff for how busy it was, but will definitely go again.

Popped in for a business lunch. Ordered from the specials menu and had the steak ciabatta and fries. Asked how I wanted the steak cooked (medium). Great quality and well presented. Beautiful location with terrace and balcony overlooking the fields.

Disappointed visit today. When ordering our pre booked Sunday lunch we were told that there was no beef, lamb or salmon left. Staff didn't seem too concerned. Won't be rushing back.

Hi First time visited this lovely country pub in Boars Hill since it changed hands. Great views from rear of property. Good range of beer, daily specials in addition to regular menu. Both enjoyed our fish and chips (chunky, not skinny like some places). Tasty coffee to follow brought bill to around £25 per head. Service was good,friendly with charge included in bill. Definitely still on 'go to ' places when in area Decent size car park

Was disappointed that they ran out of the lamb as that was the main reason my husband and I decided to have our Sunday lunch here but I ended up ordering the beef which turned out to be quite nice so pleasantly surprised

Pleased with the refreshed Fox following our first visit since it reopened earlier in 2022. Food was excellent - best burger and steak we’ve had in this pub for a long time. Nice outdoor areas and views as ever from the two seating areas at the back of the pub. The new tenants have made some great changes such as removing the smoking shelter that was next to the front door so much more inviting for potential customers.

Definitely one of my best real "British PUB" experience. Both food and service was amazing. Very warm , friendly and professional staff. Food just on point. To make it review short, I could tell you that it was worth coming back to Oxford on bike in the chilly evening. Will definitely come back. And google reviews are definitely underrating this place I can reassure you of that. This place deserves at least 4.7/5. Enjoy your visit here. Alan.

Great location, delicious food and friendly staff!

Staff were magic friendly most helpful and attentive despite being rushed off their feet. The fox is well laid out full of character been going there 50 years. Food was excellent too.

It had been many years since I came here previously, but had fond memories. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet up to any of them. We found the pub to be very cold, despite the radiators being on. It was sadly lacking in Christmas cheer or decorations. The coffee machine wasn't working so was offered an instant one. Only one vegetarian choice on the menu was extremely disappointing. Have posted a photo of the Chicken Chasseur I ordered, which mostly tasted ok, although the mushrooms were quite chewy (frozen & microwaved??). The chips were nice and hot. The service was acceptable, but no-one checked all was OK once the food was delivered. I'm not sure I will be returning any time soon and could not be overly positive about recommending to others.

Booked a table for 2pm on 28th December. Almost empty pub, 3 people working. Took over 5 minutes to be seated as apparently it took 3 people to serve one person at the bar. We were eventually shown our table, not asked if we would like drinks. 20 minutes later, still no one had been to see us to ask what we would like to drink or ask if we were ready to order. Left in total disgust at the appalling lack of service.

I called into the Inn today to purchase a lunch voucher for a beautiful couple that have assisted the NHS throughout the last year , working tirelessly , dedicating personal time, love and support to vulnerable adults in the rural areas, I asked to purchase a £25 voucher as a thank you lunch, and the proprietor doubled the value from the kindness of his heart ❤ what a beautiful gesture, it bought a tear to my eyes as valued support for all our amazing front line workers has undoubtedly kept us genuinely upbeat in so so many challenging days.. A TRUE GENT and of course fantastic food...cannot recommend highly enough..the voucher I am sure will be hugely received with gratitude and thanks.
