Great pub. Traditional atmosphere and really lovely people. The food is different each week... so it's difficult to rate. So far I've had pizza, burger & Indian. The pizza & burger were exceptional; the Indian not so good.

You really feel at ease in this pub, everyone is so welcoming and chatty, theres a huge sense of community spirit, the locals reopened it and all help to look after and run it, plus its super dog friendly and theres even a pool table.. big bonus!

A wonderful community run pub. Passed it regularly for 10 years & never thought it would reopen. Now when I pass it see it open, it is a wonderful sight, full of customers & volunteers. I did volunteer here for the short term, until work gradually picked up, and as of last week, still a wonderful friendly & active pub. Well worth supporting

I lucked in on Saturday at Garboldisham's community pub 'The Fox', having one of the best evenings of conversation and music I have had in a long time. Run by locals on a voluntary basis, I got the chance to enjoy the truly special atmosphere The Fox offers up, both quietly over a few drinks at lunch as well as later that evening when we had to return because of the promise of the 'pretty good' band who were to be playing. Yield was that in spades, and the pub's conviviality and warmth shone through altogether differently, yet ultimately with the same result; a feeling of being welcomed, looked after and a little bit spoilt, considering that this could be seen as just another English village pub. It isn't, and I will be back.

Went in for social drinks, I was visiting friends in the area, first time I'd been in,it was a friendly good old school pub,no TV on,quiet music, and all you could hear was conversations from different groups of people in the pub,we need more pubs like this, I didn't have food as it was the evening, there was a Thai/Chinese food trailer in the car park, was very popular with the locals,I wasn't hungry so didn't try it,but from looking at what people bought it looked nice ,and plenty regulars bought meals,so I'm guessing it's nice food,if your in the area it's a must to pop in

This in my opinion is one of the very best community pubs I have ever visited and always go back when visiting family in nearby Diss. Very friendly staff, very reasonable prices and always keeps good beer and ciders. Although no daily menu is available (no on site catering) food is often available on selected published evenings (off-site caterers attend) and a lovely Sunday lunch is also available on selected dates through the year (again off-site caterers) This pub has an excellent atmosphere, and is very often busy when they have a "theme" night or at Christmastime - we love it. Check out their face book page for information on events and what beers they have on tap - which is ever changing as they are a free house.

Best thing about pub is friendly faces behind bar and variety of drinks, beers and ciders on offer. However seats uncomfortable if your having a meal and not much space to move around those seats to get around table as other tables close by. Also could hear everyones conversation so perhaps some background music would help this. We had Sunday lunch provided by the Field Kitchen an outside catering company and at £15.25 was disappointed by the temperature of the food and therefore some food items reflected this (the roast potatoes were not crispy) There was more slow roasted beef than topside on my plate and the pork belly again did not have the fat crispy so no crackling. It reminded me of how my grandmother would cook it not much seasoning in the gravy more flour based and no wine. I did however enjoy the butternut squash and parsnip puree, cauliflower cheese, yorkshire pudding and unusual stuffing with feta, leek, prune and sage. We looked at the desserts at £6 each that came to another table but it didnt excite us, perhaps some garnish with the chocolate torte instead of just cream i.e. some berries and the portions looked quite small (we were not sure if these were homemade or shop brought as it is not mentioned on their menu?) Also I did not rate the paper cartons for the apple, mustard and horseradish sauce as I am actually sitting down at a table with a knife and fork and paying those prices rather than at a food festival setting.

Carvery is misleading as you don't serve yourself. Choice of 3 veg - carrot mash, leek in sauce and peas. Limited to 2 small roast potatoes. Meat was ok. Having seen the publicity about the community owned pub, we decided to call in for a drink. Rarely have I felt so welcome at a pub. The staff were brilliant and on the bar was a choice of 5 beers, four of which I reckon were from the best four local breweries in Norfolk/Suffolk. There was draught cider and Simnel Cake for Easter. It is clear that the pub is at the heart of the community and it was a pity we were there at lunchtime and not evening when Lebanese street food was on offer. A tremendous village local.

It is very clear that it has given the village a new lease of life and has become united once again. It has a great atmosphere, everyone is happy and definitely worth a visit, with a large range of Ale, and beer. All the achievements to date have been done is by hard working volunteers who give up their time to renovate, and work in the pub. At present they do not serve in-house food but at weekends local pop up cuisine is set up outside and can be eaten along with a beverage inside. This changes weekly so look out for the signs on what is on offer!

My wife and I are local to the Fox and have been there many times, we have watched it grow from being closed and falling down to last night having a pub full of happy, chatting, drinking and eating customers that many of the pubs in the local area would be happy to have on a sat night. The range of cask ale is always varied and the team look after the beer really well and quality is always excellent. One thing that has been a real hit is the pop up food offering on Sat nights. What a fantastic idea, Pizza, Souvlaki, Thai, Pies, Paella to name but a few. If other local pubs tried this hard to keep their customers coming back with variety and quality maybe we wouldn't see the decline we have over the last few years. Cheers to the Fox and the team that work so bloody hard to keep it real.

Firstly let’s just congratulate the efforts of all involved bringing this pub back from the unfortunate demise and years of neglect. Well done and may it continue, I’m sure it will and the public will be the say of that by repeat calling and support in return for the service and pleasant atmosphere. While I can see the infrastructure being developed it’s a long way off being a cosy pub yet however always warm at the moment with well stocked fires ....simple things like a pork pie work well if you aren’t vegetarian, which I’m not and goes well with a real ale. Talking of ale it all seems good and a nice selection. Now hear lies the issue,,, I’m tired with having to sit around a number of people discussing their interest in the shares and who dose what and who should do this and that . The place seems to attract people who have an interest that seem to want tell everyone loudly about how it should be run, all well and good having volunteers but every time you go in known one seems to know how the cash register works as it’s been changed , then people rush around not knowing we’re anything is on a shelf , running a bar is not as simple as an outside bar at the church fate, trust me you need regular faces behind a bar who can have the time to chat about everything from cricket to daily life and pass the time of day , not thank you here’s your beer . The contact with staff behind a bar is very hard to adopt if your day job is a doctor, solicitor, farmer , builder or plumber ,,, you either have it or you don’t , next time anyone of you share holders visit an old pub ,, think about how your served , take a look at The Red Lion Kenninghall or anywhere .... you either have it or you don’t ,,,at the moment you don’t have it... you need someone with a flare for it regular,,,,,you would see a return in the till and in the foot fall... stop trying to all be the boss, One last thing how difficult is it for someone to provide soup and a roll. And please not tomato,,,,

A 'community-run' pub, so take your hat off to local people for reopening a historic building and re-establishing a community facility. The most recent annual weekend beer festival (with good music) in June/July had more than 50 beers on offer and was well attended, so I hope they made shed-loads of money to keep the place running. The building still needs serious work after being run down, closed and empty for years, so all these efforts deserve support - and it's a great place (albeit rather shabby at present) to spend some time.
