Popped in for a drink and food , lovely lady behind the bar makes you feel at ease and has no problem helping you out, but.... very pricey I think for meals that are not on the lunchtime or specials menu saying that food is nice just a wee bit pricey for me thanks tho 👍

My husband and I were visiting the area, and popped in for lunch and drinks. We ordered from the lunch special menu. Although the prices are good, you don't get a very big portion. The steak sandwich was nice but the burger was a bit odd as it had tartar sauce on it. Don't know if this was a mistake. We really enjoyed the cookie dough pudding, but the apple crumble wasn't very good. Quite bland and not very sweet.

Several years ago, my wife and I enjoyed Sunday lunches at The Fox, Guisborough. Being an extraordinarily fussy and awkward eater, a buffet style carvery always appeals, I choose the meat and only put things I want onto my plate. This is how I remember The Fox. On Sunday, 22nd September, we returned after a several year absence, both fancying a carvery. Oh, how we were disappointed. Carvery is no longer an option, but we stayed anyway because we'd managed to obtain a convenient parking spot. My wife oredered the beef Sunday lunch, with a side of cauliflower cheese. I had a burger and fries because it was too risky to request so many things I didn't want on my plate. Whilst we awaited our food, we noted the pub had undergone an internal upgrade, which we agreed, made it a pleasant place to be. So congratulations to the management. The food arrived, and it looked fine. Unfortunately, for my wife, the euphoria soon evaporated. She enjoyed the beef, but most accompanying things on the plate were not satisfactory. I guess that before serving, her plate visited the microwave and should have stayed inside a little longer. I've never heard carrots being described as hot one end but cold at the other. This seemed to be a theme as she worked her way around the plate. My burger was typical pub fare. Why is it that McDonalds can produce a beef patty with flavour, but pubs find it a major challenge, relying on fillers (which I generally don't have) to provide taste bud stimulation. On this occasion, nice place, shame about the food.

Looked like a really interesting pub from the outside and advertised cask and craft ales on the boards and signage outside. Sat outside and it was a great outdoor space with covering from the weather and elements. Didn't see anything I would describe as cask or craft ale at the bar, possibly my mistake but settled for a neck oil. Friendly girl behind the bar. An ok venue for a quick drink but wasn't quite what I was looking for or envisaging today. Has a hotel too and serves food but can't comment on those as we only stopped by for a pint.

This place is a little bit special... The Photos say a 1000 words so I'll keep this brief. It really is a stunning building with multiple letting rooms.. Linda was busy cleaning the pub today, she was very friendly and doing a wonderful job. Large outside covered seating and it has 2 large parrots The Fox has beautiful decor, plush seating and friendly staff Another great pub that's a credit to the landlord and staff. 😎

Prices vary when the black wearing barmaid notes you are a Southerner. Gin and Tonic varied from £7 something originally to £12+ later in the evening. Her blonde colleague was far more professional and should be Chief Bar.aid and Hotel Receptionist. The Dark haired one not only refused me parking onsite (a huge sign says free onsite parking) but worse charged +£20 for a one night stay with a dog in an allegedly 'dog friendly hotel'. Whatever the site was that my Partner booked through never mentioned a 'Dog Charge' and neither does th Hotel Website. Yes I will be making a complaint but for you innocents out there, do make sure of the terms and rules. Be especially careful of the dark haired barmade. She Price Gouges and should NEVER be allowed to operate as Receptionist. The rooms are as one might expect for such a hotel. You have been warned though. Rob McGuire

I couldn't fault the service from the staff, and the different beer choices were excellent. And you can take dogs in. Down points, I opened a tab as we were having drinks and food, and the barmaid was hesitant as, yes I did look a bit mucky as I'd been for a long walk. But to say to us, okay I'll open the tab just don't do a runner. As for the food, it was okay, just okay as the portion was tiny for the price. And proper dry. 3 table spoons of mash, 2 table spoons of peas and a small pie £13 There is sky sports

Visited to spend time and have food with family visiting from London so only used the restaurant. Food was good quality and reasonably priced. I had the bacon cheeseburger which was lovely and the chips were so nice and crispy. I only have 2 issues but these weren't enough to ruin the evening. Food service stopped at 8pm which stopped me getting a pudding (this was our fault for being unfamiliar with the restaurant) and the tables around the pool table were close enough that the other customers using them had to dodge my pool cue a few times. Thankfully the other customers were accommodating and friendly about it but I can see how it would be annoying. All in all, worth a visit, just make sure you order food before 8pm 😁

Our room had some very comfortable beds and high quality pillows and quilts and I had a very restful sleep. The shower has a brilliant water pressure. There was quite a step down from the bath so maybe guests of a certain age should just take care when getting out. Great selection of teas and coffees in the room. Overall the room offers great value for money and superb facilities. Downstairs the bar has a good selection of spirits and beers and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I've taken off one star for the music from nextdoor. It feels harsh since it's not the owners fault but Harry's Bar is really loud. Luckily I sleep with ear plugs anyway but if you're a light sleeper you may struggle with that on a Saturday night. If you're thinking of staying here just bear that in mind, maybe check what days/times Harry's is open until, and bring some ear plugs just in case. Thanks for an enjoyable stay.

We booked 2 nights as visiting family in the area. A lovely girl took us to our room. The smell of drains hit as soon as we walked in. No bedside tables, no lamps, light in bathroom too dark, towel rail fell off wall when we hung towel. The bed was comfortable and looked clean apart from a couple of hairs. I was going to ask for some bleach to be put down the drains but we actually checked out after one night as were offered a bed elsewhere. When I went to tell them we were checking out early they didn’t ask why or if everything was ok. Staff apart from first girl seemed disinterested generally.

We were given a tiny room with no bedside cupboards nor wardrobe. Hopefully one can see the layout in the attached pics. Barely enough space to climb into and out of the bed. We listened unwillingly to the full commentary of a football match on a neighbouring room's TV in the evening and a child overhead early in the morning who ran back and forth on the wooden floor . The water in the WC and the basin made an enormous racket as if one turned in a very noisy pump upon each use. Not a happy thing for my partner nor the nearby rooms during the night. Getting up and down the stairs to the room with a heavy bag was a bit of a struggle too. No breakfast available .

We visited for a late lunch, family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) and a small dog. This is one of the only places around that you can get pub food, with the kids and a dog indoors so we were limited however…pleasantly surprised. We all ordered adult meals, fish & chips, 2 big breakfasts and hunters chicken, the food was hot, tasty and plenty of it. All food and drink was reasonably priced and what I would expect to pay when eating out with the family. We were mainly served by a young lady who was friendly, welcoming, polite and always had a smile. She checked back on the food mid meal and cleared our plates away after we had eaten. I wouldn’t let the bad reviews put you off, I enjoyed our visit to this place and if returning to Guisborough would definitely eat here again.

We stopped off here after a long walk for something to eat. The food was fine but nothing amazing. For the price I'd have liked quite a lot more beef brisket in my burger than tiny amount (all bunched in the middle) that I was given. There was so little that I couldn't taste it when eaten with the burger, so I ended up picking it out and eating it separate. There's nothing wrong with this place, the interior is nice, food was alright, staff were lovely and everywhere (including toilets) was very clean... It was just a bit pricey and when you're paying just shy of £12 for a burger you expect it to be a bit more tasty than the average weatherspoons burger. The whole thing was just a bit meh and I'll try somewhere else for tea next time I'm in Guisborough. On a plus though, the staff were a credit to the place, very pleasant. They never stopped moving and were easy to catch the attention of when needed.

We went here to eat lunch as we knew it was dog friendly. That was the only plus about this place. The pastry on my steak and ale pie was greasy and claggy and the chips were barely warm. I don't think from this and previous experience that the food is cooked on the premises, just warmed up. It must be possible to offer better food for the prices charged. And over-diluted orange squash is NOT fresh orange juice!

Stopped for a meal on a Wednesday at about 3 so practically had the place to ourselves. Great that it’s dog friendly as it can be hard to find places that allow them inside and on a cold October day you don’t want to be eating outside! The food was really nice! I had bangers and mash and then fudge cake for dessert. Would definitely recommend! I think the pub has been renovated as it looks newly decorated inside and doesn’t look like the pictures on here.

We have been to The Fox for meals on several occasions over the years. We thought it would be lovely to take our dad in for a birthday treat. Arrived there about 5.45 and were assured that yes they were serving food, I must admit I was a bit worried as there were no other people in the place, but we sat down and chose our food and then ordered at the bar. The very young barmaid didn't even know what a bitter shandy was or how to make it!!!! Meals are quite expensive, but we thought that it was worth it to celebrate our 87 year olds dads birthday. HOW WRONG WE WERE!!!! We waited for quite a while for the food to come, and when it did my word how awful it was. Barely warm chips, poorly presented, thrown onto the plate. Looked like it had been warmed up from lunchtime. The pasta dish my sister-in-law ordered had to be sent back and made again, apparently the cook had forgotten the sauce!!!!! Despite a nice refurbish to the surroundings, we wont be back!!!!! And would recommend others not to touch it with a bargepole!!!!

This was the one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I have ever had. We arrived here expecting some simple but hearty pub fare however even this was beyond this establishments kitchen. I selected from the menu and to my horror the food came out swimming in thick, tasteless gruel which I was led to believe qualifies as gravy in these parts. At this point enter the staff… They appeared more interested in making eyes at each other than in delivering service to their guests and when I saw the chef come out cigarette beyond ear I was struck dumb at what conditions my meal was produced in. Overall the experience was tarnished somewhat by clearly inebriated characters shouting loudly and rudely at the bar and disturbing the peace to the extent that we were forced to beat a hasty retreat without having dessert. How these people were allowed entry in their state shows the lack of pride taken in the business by the owner. This was once a lovely country Inn but has gone downhill since my last visit a number of years ago under different management.

Can't say anything good about the Fox Inn. Three people including ourselves got their money back because of the excessive time it took to deliver meals, ours took about an hour which given it was standard pub meal was ridiculous. It wasn't even busy. My wife had ordered a coffee which clearly the barmaid had forgotten and had to be asked again for it. When the meal came my handcut chips were missing and my wife's hash browns were missing. My wife's fryed egg was hidden under beans and was cremated. Unfortunately because of the complaits the bsrmaid lost her temper and threw us out, but we did get our money back first. We weren't going to return anyway but would advise people to avoid here, unless they're are prepared for a long way and rudeness.

We'd been out for the day in Guisborough. There were a few bars that were a miss and not what we needed. However, the Fox Inn fitted the bill nicely. Live golf and football on big TV's made the men of the group happy. The group was just setting up, so we stayed for a second and third. Pink Floyd and several other decent rock reductions were hammered out with enthusiasm. Cold beer, a clean howf and a decent atmosphere made for an enjoyable hour in this fine town.

Never written a review in my life, but absolutely compelled to, as this place should be avoided. We 'popped' in for quick lunch on way back from Whitby, and thought Guisborough would be as good a place as any.On arrival today (around 1.30) we approached the bar to ask about availability of lunches, when a very drunk 'patron', (about 50/60) who was in deep conversation with the bar maid, answered for her and advised that we shouldn't really be eating there. How right he was, and we should have left at this point. We however got the bar maids attention (the drunk customer seemed to be a priority) and ordered 3 meals. The drunk customer made sexual innuendo related to the 'rump' streak we had ordered leaving us feeling very uncomfortable. Nothing was said to him by the bar staff, who appeared a little intimidated by him. He then went on to make suggestions about buying my 15 year old son a drink, invading our conversation with the bar maid and generally creating a terrible atmosphere. As a side issue we were charged a 50p credit card charge, despite our bill being around £35!We made our way to our table and then had to put up with the drunk customers loud and inappropriate discussions with 2 other customers who arrived, and who were known to him.Now we are no prudes, however the discussions covered everything from lesbians, sex discussions and just general inappropriate topics and was quite intimidating. They were very loud and by this point no one else was in the pub, but us and the 3 'friendly' customers at the bar.You can probably see why!We 'painfully' had to wait 40 mins for our food (with no one else there couldn't understand it) and it was horrendous. I'm writing this for 2 reasons:-1. To make people aware of what a nightmare place this is and2. If I owned this place, I'd want to know why people don't go and try to do something about it. Seriously, you need to take stock. Will never ever end up there again.

Fox Inn which is owned and operated by the youngest in the business, Michael, has the most competetive rates in the area. The pub transforms into a party place on a given day. It has a simple and no pretentious menu. Proud of their Sunday Carvery. Parking is not a problem because of their car park at the side. The owner is very approachable and able. I was going to title the review the worst rump steak I have eaten but I couldn't eat it as it was that tough you could barely cut it with your knife. The kids chicken Parma was also well over cooked and tough. I must say that the chips were really nice and tasty as were the mushrooms, but apart from that it was very poor. We had a groupon voucher and I would have thought if they wanted to drum up business through the these that the food would have been much better than it was. I would more than likely not eat here again. The pretty young barmaid/waitress was friendly, and also apologetic about the food, she seemed to have a good banter with the locals. All in all very disappointed with the place.

The pub was empty apart from another couple near us and a few people near the pool table...surely it shouldn't have taken that long. God help the place if it gets busy. We all asked for medium and there were all medium rare which didn't bother me.. I don't mind a bit of pink and blood. The presentation is nothing like the Groupon voucher and you only get about 6/7 sad looking chips...but there were real chips. My hubby said his steak was as tough as old boots and was quite fatty with gristle.. Mushrooms were nice and I also enjoyed the two large onion rings..I only paid £11.82 for the voucher due to a 15% off offer and It was worth it with the nice glass of blossom hill wine, but wouldn't pay anymore that this... Would not recommend or go back until they get their act together a bit more. Not organised at all. The place itself is clean and so are the toilets. The write up in the Gazette that same evening made me think I was in the wrong pub?

We used a groupon to have a Rump Steak with all the trimmings but were very disappointed with both the meal and the service. When I booked a few days earlier I was asked what we were having and I responded by saying can't we choose on the day? The response was 'we need to know to make sure we have some in'!! We had been here before about 8 months previous and thought the food was good so hence no qualms about going back. We were asked how we would like our steaks and we both wanted them medium to rare, what we got was two very well done steaks that were difficult to cut, we both left over half our meals and when asked if we enjoyed our meals we replied that they were over cooked. We didn't even get a response to this and our plates were taken away. We just drank up and left never to return.

I used to be a very regular customer here and didnt bother for some time, however went recently and remembered why we stopped going. There were always a few flies and other. bugs in the lounge area to the right and it seems they remain and are offputting if you are going to eat.The food on arrival was nothhing special but what you would expect for the price. The pub itself is rarely busy apart from friday saturday nights and is a bit soul less if i am honest.Ok for a bite on a lunchtime but wouldnt go back anytime soon.Sorry but its the truth.

We where in guisborough town for a spot of shopping and never eaten at the fox inn before so we decided to give it a try. Can honestly say never again will i be visiting! On arival at 2:15 we where told "if you are ordering food hurry up because the kitchen shuts at 2:30"We thought this was rude but when my partner approched the bar to order the meals the young guy didnt say a word. 2 meals where ordered and his words where "is that it" it wasnt and when my partner said no he sighed massivly and continued. When our meals came out they did look nice however ive had alot better is was just ok nothing to shout about and when asking this guy for condiments...well....if looks could kill comes to mind!!Couldnt have a desert because the chef had left and shut the kitchen.Absolutely terrible would never recomend and will not be returning!

Wifey and I ate here with a Groupon deal - two steak dinners for £11. I saw a previous review, and was a little apprehensive, but needn't have worried. The steak was a decent size and thickness, and cooked just how I like it. It was tender and tasty, and definitely not stringy. It came with mushrooms, tomato, home-made onion rings, and a bit of salad, with a basket of home-cut chips. The only downside... no Black Sheep, but Hobgoblin and Maxim were on tap.

We visited the Fox Inn after buying a voucher from Groupon. Although the service was a little slow (due to only only one barmaid and having a big party arrive) she was very friendly and did apologise about the wait! We ordered 2 steaks which were cooked to perfection, the peppercorn sauce was very tasty and the home made chips and onion rings were beautiful! The meal was definitely good value for money and would recommend a visit!

Went for a family meal food was really bad waited ages would never go back and when I spoke to the manager she was really rude and actually argued that my chicken wasn't dry and tasted Cajun (she never tasted it) they should call it dry battered chicken not Cajun !

The drinks were a little bit more expensive than the rest of the town, but not by much. The service was fine, it was a nice mature lady in her 40's who came over and initiated a conversation about if we were having a nice time and if we were from the local area. But the place was severely let down with their current clientel. A mixture of tracksuit bottom, hoodies and baseball caps, people rolling some sort of cigarettes on the tables and lots of shouting and swearing across thepub to each other...one of the topics being how they were planning on getting "smashed" later that evening and what time they were going to collect their "sniff". Lovely little pub, ruined by the locals of Guisborough as so many are.

Used a Groupon Voucher for a Steak Meal for two - only 1 Barperson serving (although it was only 5.30pm) who didn't seem very friendly at all!The steak was ordered medium rare, which we always order, but steak was very stringy and chewy. Mine ended up been taken home for the dogs!

Asked for bacon sandwich. Bought as a takeout, was handed over all wrapped up and in a bag. This is what I opened when I got home. Neither looked or smelled like bacon. Green tinged. Went straight into the bin
