We arrived early for lunch on a Wednesday as we have a very large Dobermann dog and wanted to make sure there was space for him We were greeted by a lovely young lady and shown to our table. The fire was roaring as we walked in and we knew straight away we had found the perfect Cotswolds pub Lunch was delicious,we had the Welsh rarebit, washed down with a mulled wine and a pint of local lager Service was outstanding, friendly and efficient. Our Dobermann got plenty of strokes too! Highly recommend this place. Not sure that you will find any better in the Cotswolds. A lovely setting too!

This is a really very good pub. Unlike some of its Cotswold neighbours with their pretentions, this does exactly what a good country pub should do. Very good atmosphere and always busy without being a scrum. Menu is really excellent and service spot on.

A traditional, very popular Cotswold country inn in a pretty village well off the beaten track. Starters off the 'specials' board were innovative and tasty, but main courses were a let-down and average at best: the 'fish & chips' were below Wetherspoon's standard, while my chicken milanese was both small and lacked crispness. Puddings, though, were generously portioned and good, the crumble in particular tasty and accompanied by gorgeous vanilla ice cream. Service was good, though at the expense of staff appearing under pressure. Noise levels were something of an assault on the ear, and the bill (service charge added automatically) an assault on the wallet.

Me and my dad went for dinner in the Fox Inn in Broadwell. The pub itself is beautiful and although there were some issues with the food, the waitress Natalie made up for it in every way. She was outstanding from even our phone call to book the table, and made us feel incredibly welcome and looked after. She resolved issues quickly and took them sincerely. Probably the best service ever just because of her. That’s why I’m rating 5 stars, despite the food issues.

The only eatery, evidently, in the small village of Broadwell, about two miles and an incredibly scenic walk along the "Monarch's Way" path from Stow-on-the-Wold evidently, but it is a good one and a great destination for a morning stroll (although there is a bit of a hill). The food was great, and the village was a postcard! Recommend advance booking even for lunch. After you eat, walk up the road to the village churchyard.

Visited the Fox on two nights over the long weekend, they managed to squeeze us in Sat and Sunday nights at short notice. The young floor staff did a great job service was exceptional, food was also great. First night pan fried lambs kidneys as an entree cooked to order ink and succulent my wife had the asparagus with egg dressing equally good, followed by a steak for me and sea bass for my wife, lemon tart to share to finish. Sunday night we shared a chicken, leek and ham pie said it was for two but could have fed four lucky no entree and no room for dessert. Great job done by everyone over a very busy weekend.

Lovely looking village / pub and enjoyed the pint of Guinness with the birthday Port chaser 👍👍. As 8 of us cost a fortune but hey ho…… price of the pint in the Cotswold is at a premium as used to up north prices. Nearly 7 quid a pint 😱 Anyways loved it

Much too salty. Salty bread, salty beans, salty crust on chicken pie. Hake on a sea of red mush unappealing. Pie a bit too dry. No sign of a Manager. Not impressed and will not return. At least the prices were not outrageous but standard of cooking below par. Good beer.

It was our second time coming and we were very appalled with the quality and service. We arrived at 13:15 and had an extremely long wait for our food, which was very underwhelming. We then finally got our food at 15:00 which was cold and the food arrived at different times. Staff were very dismissive of us asking when the food was arriving. The staff couldn’t give us a time for when the food would arrive. The fish was overcooked and the meat was cold. The cauliflower cheese was burnt and the chips were dry. The broccoli was undercooked. Overall the staff were not welcoming and the food was disappointing to say the least. It was overpriced for the experience. And to be honest a waste of my time. I do not recommend.

We came to the Fox last May for Sunday lunch as a family of four and on that occasion we raved about it. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. We have just been back and cannot believe the contrast. We booked for 1.15 pm and the food did not arrive until 2.45 - that is for three of our party. Our son’s food did not arrive until 3pm. No apology, the staff appeared irritated when we asked after an hour how long the food might be. The response was that they were very busy ( we appreciate that but our table was booked in advance ) and that no estimate of when our food might arrive could be given. The food was awful. Chicken and beef was cold, cauliflower cheese was burnt and cold. Our son’s fish was so overcooked it was inedible. Overall really appalling. The first time I have ever been minded to place a review. Appreciate it is hard to run a hospitality business but if you have such a blatant disregard for your customers I’d suggest you do not bother.

Since reading a very positive review of The Fox in The Times I have been for dinner on three separate occasions. My first visit I was solo and I found the food (scotch egg, followed by fish and chips plus dessert) excellent, and the service superb. On my second (again solo) visit I had toad in the hole which was disappointing - the pudding mix was burnt and it was a stodgy meal - to be fair it could have been more about my choice - after all, toad in the hole is quite stodgy! On my most recent visit in November I bought along three family member’s. We all felt somewhat disappointed by starters and main courses. Service was slow and appeared to be under resourced. I know it’s difficult in the hospitality industry to recruit and retain staff and at the same time maintain consistently high standards of food. The Fox Inn is a lovely pub, however, my experience of the quality of the food has been inconsistent. Notwithstanding my experiences so far, I will go to The Fox Inn again.

Stayed in the village for two nights last week and had lunch and an evening meal on Friday at The Fox Inn as we didn't want to travel elsewhere because of heavy rain etc. We both had the fish soup and deserts for lunch, and for dinner I had the cheeseburger and my partner the partridge. The food tasted good, the servers were pleasant and the atmosphere nice. Unfortunately at 4am next morning I had a touch of food poisoning with the usual symptoms, and felt sicky for the rest of Saturday. I can only assume it was either the fish soup or the burger responsible as we had not eaten elsewhere that day. I was sent an automatic email requesting feedback on our dining experience so I sent the feedback as a private message explaining the above and expected some sort of reply but was disappointed that I was not contacted by the Fox Inn at all. I am sad to have to give such a review as the serving staff were so attentive.

We followed Giles Coren's review and found the food mediocre. For £20 I had the ploughmans lunch which consisted of a jacket potato? Cheese mixed to a paste with beer? 2 half slices of ham , bread and lettuce leaves. No sign of a tomato or some decent cheese. the rest of the family were similarly underwhelmed. Having been 4-5 times now, either for a few jars or their food, I have been bowled over by the Fox. As part of the owners growing empire of Cotswolds pubs, combating the 'boujee London' takeover of the area, the Fox lives up to all of Giles' comments. Would eat all of the bar snacks and starters, especially the rarebit every day. The larger than life head chef has added mega new food as the seasons have moved on. The staff are exceptional, especially given the place is always buzzing. Would recommend to a friend or casual acquaintance.

Well, as far as I’m concerned, The Fox lived up to the press from Giles. Lunching solo, the staff were friendly and attentive. I had the Iberico pork in romesco sauce with grilled scallions and garlic and chilli broccoli as a side. All perfectly cooked and delicious with a pint of Donningtons. Perhaps it helped booking for midday and being the first to arrive. I will be going there again.

We arrived, as per the booking, at 7pm for the special dinner, headlined on The Fox’s Instagram feed. Only thing was, the day’s special menu wasn’t being served until 8.30pm. Which it did not say would be the case on their IG page, neither did it say so on their website, nor that it had to be specially ordered. That was bad enough but then to be told, via a DM from the Fox when we gave feedback privately that I was incorrect that the information was there - it wasn’t - I realised that detail wasn’t their forte and the word sorry was not in their vocabulary. . We stayed nonetheless because we did not want to be a last minute let down for a small business. Also because we were offered a better table. That’s important because to describe the tables in the dining room to be like sardines in a can would be to suggest that said fish enjoy the wide open spaces of eg Wyoming. The food was just ok, my trout very good my husband’s steak tasteless. Table number 2, right next to the door to the garden, was an improvement on the first but only that, which isn’t saying a lot. It’s a shame. We wanted to like this place but they are making that impossible. Competition in this part of the world is now very fierce. It didnt’t used to be. The Fox was packed last night, so they’re obviously doing ok. I don’t get it.

Read into Gile's comments as you want but the current set up has destroyed the Fox as a local village pub & community centre into a DFL Restaurant. Locals are well p*ssed off with this & the landlords (Donnington Brewery) are apparently being informed of their new tenants antics.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch at 2.15 pm. We have known this pub for 40 years but not visited under this management . It was busy. The main menu was available but for roasts they offered chicken belly pork and beef. We were told they had run out of beef!! Not a good start. We had chicken and pork. Very ordinary and pork was poor. Then after an hour a party of 12 arrived and sat very near us. They had beef!!!! Presumably pre booked. When we booked our table we were not offered to pre book beef. It was not a good value eating place.

The food was good and the service was quick and friendly. They have put too many tables in so it was very cramped. It is 'dog friendly' dog overrun would be better. Being next to a black dog which would not sit still and constantly moving about and wagging its tail all over me is neither hygienic or conducive to a relaxed meal. There were at least 8 dogs in the pub. Would not return.

We are lucky enough to live near the Lamb in Shipton and love it. Since the fox opened we have visited twice, the first for lunch a few weeks ago and it was lovely, (the owners were there at the time) but our most recent visit, which was an evening one was far from lovely. We booked last minute for an early supper. There appeared to be a discrepancy with the booking system and their own system which seemed to annoy the waitress and from then on we had the feeling she would rather we weren’t there. The service was slowish with only the one waitress attending to all the tables, it wasn’t packed but appreciate they may have had a busy lunch service, but she seemed harassed and instead of being cool and cheerful she was less than friendly to us, almost sarcastic. The biggest let down was the food. The burger would have passed muster for taste, but the bun was drenched and soggy and the overall presentation unappealing. The other main, the beans and carrots, was the strangest meal with nothing exciting about it all. A lot of liquid and very little substance and all for £19. There was barely any choice of dishes, unlike the lamb where I’m always excited about more than one dish, but here we struggled to get excited about any of it, and absolutely nothing light and summery on offer. There are so many lovely places to choose from around here, I’m afraid we won’t be returning, I’m sure the waitress will be thrilled to hear that.

The pub has taken plenty of measures regarding COVID and social distancing was in place. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back in the future.

We stayed in the camping field at the back, which had plenty of room. The service was welcoming, friendly and the staff regularly checked to see if we were okay. Our food came out quickly and was very good. I’m surprised to read someone stating the decor looked tired, as they obviously didn’t go inside. It was very nicely decorated, felt like a proper English pub and I look forward to our next visit.

A warm friendly welcome. We were staying in our camper in their back field. They accommodated us at short notice and even managed to squeeze us in inside. Pizza was fantastic as was the beer and all at good prices. We would recommend and will definitely be back in we’re in the area.

The Fox is enviably situated on the green in the lovely hamlet of Broadwell. We visited for dinner on a Thursday in mid August. It was busy, but due to Covid was only serving drinks and food in the garden, although a marquee had been set up to provide some protection from the elements. From what we could see of the inside, the place looked rather tired.Food was mediocre pub stuff - Piri piri chicken, scampi, lasagne etc. all served with chips. Perfectly edible, but you’d hope for better nowadays. Service was efficient and friendly. For a pub in such a lovely setting and in such an affluent and touristy area, the Fox could be a great pub - just a bit of investment required by the brewery!

To say our experience was disappointing is an understatement. It was our first time there and we booked on the strength of previous reviews, but we must have caught the chef/kitchen on a bad night. Alarm bells rang when our food arrived in 5 mins! It’s not a fast food joint after all. I wonder if some food was pre-cooked as the staff were expecting a busy night. Pizza bases were as crispy as poppadoms. Everything lacked seasoning. Staff were friendly if not attentive. We had to call someone over to order drinks, food and ask for the bill. We fed back to staff that the pizzas in particular were dry and tasteless, but they only apologised and offered nothing more.

Stopped here and had a great lunch. Very well organised for COVID-19. We had an excellent bacon & Brie baguette, bacon nicely well done, delicious molten Brie and all piping hot. Great place for walkers’ stop-off.

We visited in our Moho and stayed in the field behind the pub as we are britstoppers. What an amazing welcome we had from Ed and Dominique, such lovely people. The food was amazing, friendly service, they really have this covid safety thing off to a tee. All tables cleaned in between customers with text ordering, lovely marquee and setting. Highly recommend!!!!

Had Sunday lunch here which was very nice. standing room only so popular! we booked ahead otherwise don't think we would have got a table. I liked how the roast was served with hidden veg under the meat! extra gravy on the side was a nice touch. chocolate font was excellent. good friendly service food came out quickly. I would say very slightly over priced, but all in all very good. No wow factor hence a well deserved 4 stars.

Very happy to adapt menu to suit my husband’s medical dietary requirements. Generous portions. Good pub menu. Real open fire. Great position overlooking a large village green. Easy car parking at front or rear. Wcs were a bit tired looking but perfectly clean.

Stopped in here for dinner on our first evening staying in Broadwell. A nice small village pub. Got a couple of local beers. My wife had Fish & Chips which was pretty ordinary. I had a Gnocchi dish that was really very flavorful. If you find your self in this small town give this place a go.

Four of us dined at a cosy table near the fire and bar. I must say I was not expecting such well presented and prepared food. The menu was somewhat limiting but what we chose were very nice dishes of whole trout, chicken supreme, a burger, mussels, soup and a ham hock terrine. The mussels were very fresh and a nice portion for hungry guys. The ham hock terrine was absolutely delicious. The ambience is a no frills pub, not in any way a jewel box inside like many gastro pubs in the area, however the service was efficient and we were very happy with our delicious meals. It is a local favorite evidenced by all of the diners who were there on a Monday night! We will be back!

The Fox Inn is not a gourmet pub, it is a modernized pub serving average traditional food with nice and friendly but not very service minded staff.

A wonderful first visit to The Miners Arms. They did everything right, from initial welcome to friendly goodbye. A masterclass that many other pubs could usefully pay attention to! Recommended!

Fantastic setting and the service first class. We didn't see/use the rooms. The food was slightly disappointing, although it looked fabulous and some courses were tasty, nothing had the wow factor. And the sticky toffee pudding was a dish I would not wish to repeat. We paid £140 plus a tip for the service (included one alcoholic drink)

We throughly enjoyed our meal and time with you. We were able to choose a table, near to a cosy fire, with fantastic and friendly service from two of your staff. The food itself was really tasty and great value, and the atmosphere was both relaxing and the right side of busy. Thank you for helping make my dad's birthday an extra bit special.

They said that i could order chips but be cooked in a different fryer due to my celiac disease but when asked they wouldn't do it due to being busy. I don't get to have takeaways now and this was a treat but was let down. Lovey feedback from them 👇👇 well mannered 👍 avoid if you have dietary requirements.
