The Fox & Hounds in Chelmsford

Good food in a nice village/country style pub. Tried the local Brew - Bellhouse Blonde. Nice quaffabke ale. Recommend the Toad in the Hole.

Met up with some family for lunch. The decor is electric and interesting, as is the menu. We shared the pate to start and then I had toad in the hole and my husband had the steak and ale pie, both were fantastic. Servers were super friendly as well! All in all a wonderful experience

Had a sunday roast here on 21st October 2024 lovely food , atmosphere and service from Ana T . We will be visiting again soon.

What a delightful pub filled with even nicer people! We stopped in here on a Thursday evening and caught the new “Wings and Waffles” truck, it was brilliant! exactly what you need with a pint after an evenings walk! Sarah and the whole Fox family were delightful and couldn’t do more to look after us! We will certainly be going back!

Hosted a gathering for my son’s 21st we had the patio and restaurant area, ideal setting for family and friends and all types of weather. The food was delicious service was amazing and everyone so friendly. Sarah helped us with every step choosing menus and accommodating different tastes. Her suggestions for making an enjoyable evening were perfect. A great time had by all. Thanks to you and all the team !

Amazing food at the fox and the hound. Good quality food, portions are really generous and a lot of home made variety to suit everyone. Our favourites place to have dinner as a family. Staff are so welcoming, Paula is absolutely brilliant, and is always so attentive, and brilliant with my little boy. Bonus points as we can take our dog in there too.

Lovely place to enjoy a drink. We didn't eat there but publicans very friendly and Staff. Everyone so friendly it was like a family Party.

We went here for lunch with 2 friends. The food was fabulous I had Steak and Ale pie, it was awesome..Will deffo be coming back...thanks to Paula for serving us. Will be back for the roast beef

We turned up here today with our dog in tow and they accommodated us even though it was a busy sunday it is best to book if you can for a sunday, the portions are generous and worth the money.The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is warm if you're in the area with a dog i would highly recommend coming here

This was our first time at the Fox and Hounds but it won't be our last. Good food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. My wife had the steak and ale pie and I had sirloin steak. Both things we can recommend.

Very disappointed, went for lunch on my birthday. 4 adults 2 children. Service was not good at all. Waited ages for starters then they bought out one of my granddaughters main with our starters, peas were missing. Mains, seafood linguine was cold in the middle and toad in the hole was burnt underneath and stuck to the dish so couldn't eat it, would have sent it back but we waited so long we didn't bother. 24th Feb 2024

Nice pub , lovely food and great staff. Pub also has live music and good beer selection and will definitely go back in the summer as I went on a cold winter night ... the open fire was a great touch

Had our team Xmas dinner there. They had placed us in the terrace which had beautiful decorations, spacious and was lovely and warm. A bit of music would have been nice. We had pre ordered our menu and everything came together. Their communication prior to the date was really good. The feedback from myself and all of my team was that the food was delicious! One member is celiac and she was so happy she had a decent meal that attend to her needs for once. She also commented that she will bring her friends. We also loved the fact that the table was set as like a round table so we could all enjoy each others company. The service from Scarlet and Jodie (I think that’s her name) was smiley, attentive and polite. We hope to be back next year😀

Had a lovely meal. 1st time I'd been. Only criticism was the service charge of 22 pounds which I didn't pay otherwise everything else was nice.

I popped in for a leisurely drink part way through a bike ride. The barmaid, Paula, could not have been more accommodating. I enjoyed a super service. I'm a real ale fan and was served locally produced ale. A great experience from start to finish.

Friendly staff who were more than happy to help with our requests and questions. Food was very good and there was no rush. Plus the added benefit of being able to get a doggie bag was very good!

The food was amazing and very big portions, and the service was excellent. I can't wait to go back and I highly recommend it.

Went for a family birthday . Lovely pub . Great location

We arrived late afternoon on Sunday without a reservation, however, Sarah immediately welcomed us and showed us to a lovely table by the window. We ordered a two course meal, I had the beef and my partner the Turkey, followed by the best sticky toffee pudding ever! I felt welcome and the food was exceptional- I highly recommend this little treasure!

Staff are lovely, service is polite and very attentive. When we sat down the amount of flies hoovering around was a bit concerning, I know there is not much they can do to stop this but it is a bit off putting. Food - I read reviews online before going - my opinion - Food was slow coming out, waitress on a couple of occasions apologised and said it was coming. For a Sunday I would of expected quicker. Food wise - Meat (beef) was lovely, the Yorkshire was huge, potatoes in my opinion not crispy enough, veg is veg and I didn't think we had enough gravy which was thin. With there being less gravy the Yorkshire was dry. I would of liked a nice pouring jug of gravy. No stuffing charged extra for this. Atmosphere was nice. Would I go back? Not in a hurry had better at this price range

Our first visit early Saturday evening. Seated in covered patio. Restaurant looked nice too. Greeted with a smile and welcome, service was very good and attentive. Food excellent. Skewers are huge lamb chunks had no fat and was tender. Fillet steak done how each of us like it was tender. Sides were nicely presented and tasty.

Lovely pub with plenty of space. Big car park out front and large beer garden for eating outside if the inside is full. Good selection on the food menu and reasonably priced. Big portions and very well made. Can't fault it.

Had the best lunch here with my mum today, we didn’t book but we were made to few so welcome and nothing was too much trouble - fantastic staff, the landlady is one in a million - the toad in the hole was to die for - can’t wait to return

Very happy with the service here, great country vibe, food amazing and best staff, outgoing and friendly. Had my baby reveal party here, had the best day ever, huge marquee and massive outdoor space. all staff went above and beyond to make sure all guests were happy throughout the whole day and night. Thank you all so so much.

Great fish and chips and excellent real ale

Wonderful from start to finish. Arrived early - before they opened in fact - but still made welcome. Fantastic staff, particularly Jodie and Shay(?) who looked after us, made great recommendations and were generally lovely. Food was good honest grub but done really well. Atmosphere was great. Basically how a really good pub should be.

First time we've been to the restaurant and we really enjoyed it. The steak and ale pie looked so lovely we had to take a photo! It tasted as good as it looked and I think this is my new favourite restaurant xx

All 19 of us had a wonderful evening celebrating my daughter's 50th birthday. Food was excellent the staff were friendly and helpful.

This is a very nice pub, the staff are friendly very nice decor with a country feel and very clean, the menu is also very good? We only had a few of the appetiser dishes although they were very generous portions and very tasty, we will visit again and try the main dishes, the skewers looked very appetising

We had a roast lunch. It was ok. Price was raised but this is likely due to the economy. I can’t say it was special or outstanding. Roasties were not crisp. I found it ordinary. Toilets were clean. Establishment was clean and tidy. Service was welcoming and sincere. I may visit again. The pub was dog and family friendly and it is a comfortable place.

We stopped by on the off chance to grab a lunch on Sunday, fully expecting a "sorry, you haven't booked," but the staff were so accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was great, full of flavour and really good-sized portions. I would highly recommend the Fox and Hounds.

Outstanding presentation! Looks like gourmet eating and has the taste to match. Prices very reasonable for generous portions. Overall amazing food, great friendly service for such an unassuming little pub.

Booked The Fox & Hound for a private function (birthday) on a Friday evening, Mark and the team were absolutely brilliant, we were looked after and all of the staff were great. Everyone was made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely, our party was for 23 people and everyone was impressed with the whole experience. We'll done guys and thankyou for helping us to have a great evening.

Nice clean pub/restaurant. Friendly and polite staff. Our meals were hot well cooked and nicely presented. Service was a bit erratic. There was a small dog running about in the pub and restaurant. I'm asthmatic, allergic to cats and dogs. Not a good idea to have a dog running free in a restaurant

Lovely food and a very friendly welcome. Jodie looked after us very well. The food was first class and I would recommend the steak and ale homemade pie. We were there for lunch and would be very happy to visit again soon.

We came to the Fox & Hound yesterday (25/01/23) and what a lovely warm welcome we received. I had been here only once before for a friend's birthday a few years ago, so I decided to book here to celebrate my nans 90th birthday. We received an outstanding service and the lady who served us was really lovely, we had a lovely meal, the food was so nice, presented beautifully, very good portions and at a really reasonable price. We loved all the quirky decor, it created several conversations for my nan, talking about her late husband (my grandad) his hobbies were hunting/shooting and fishing, seeing all the decor was very delightful for my nan. To top it off there was a lovely open fire and my nan was even spoilt with a desert and a candle. We will definitely be coming back again. Thank you 😊

Found this lovely pub by accident and it turns out it was unexpected pleasure. Lovely young ladles serving who were charming and very welcoming. Food excellent beautiful fillet steak and excellent steak pie. Took our small dog who was given a lovely lot of fuss by the staff. Have booked again for Sunday lunch.

Had a space reserved for a wake. It's a cosy place without being stifling, the food was amazing, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Definiely worth a visit!

Dropped in for lunch and made to feel very welcome. The decor is warm and well thought through. Food was delicious. We had the burger, the ham and eggs and the scampi and were impressed with everything. Can thoroughly recommend this gem of a pub.

Our first visit and what an absolutely lovely afternoon. Leanne was fantastic and really looked after us. Had the Piri Piri chicken skewers which were delicious! Would recommend to anyone 10/10. A lovely country pub. We went on Saturday afternoon and had a very nice meal. The beer was good and kept well with a decent selection. There was a decent menu but not too large. All the food we had tasted fresh. I had the ham eggs and chips, plenty of ham and really good chunky chips. My wife had the chicken Caesar salad which was very good and a decent size. The sponge pudding was lovely with proper custard. The staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. At least 4 and a half stars

Sunday roast was disappointing. We came here for the first time and unfortunately last time. The ladies at the front seemed pleasant enough but not attentive. We were told our food will take 15 mins and nearly an hour later it wasn't. We went back to the bar to check and struggled to get attention as they were chatting away. Turns out the roast is ready and they were going to bring it out now. I presume it sat under a lamp for a while. The meat was so dry and visibly not appealing. The extra portion of toasties had zero seasoning on them. We ate as we were starving but didn't enjoy it.

We had a lovely meal. Host and venue were 10/10

Just had the best Sunday lunch at this gorgeous pub. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. Lovely atmosphere here. Food delicious, beef, pork with crackling. Polished off with delicious waffle, ice cream and honeycomb crumble.

Came to leave a bad review after bad food and service but clearly don’t need to just read the reviews and the owner is in denial of everything wrong with their pub since they think its okay lol! And they tell everyone to remove bad reviews or claim its a different pub? Is this pub run by a child ? What a shambles Edit: And to leave such a childish immature answer then to change it because you embrassed yourself proves nothing but my point good day I hope you can find solitude in your deluded mind n it’s not a fake review either thank you for proving my point. Great pub, huge garden area behind, didn't eat but food looked good and plenty of people ordered so must be good.

Staff were a delight and the setting was actually quite nice but we were there for dinner with the kids on Sunday and the food was poor and there was no real kids menu (just smaller versions of the roast). So 2 star experience for us but it probably would have been different if we were just coming for drinks.
