Zorba the Greek Taverna in Chelmsford

Since moving out of delivery range I have really missed this place! Collecting on my way home was so easy and quick I’ll definitely do it again.

I visited here for dinner before going to Chelmsford Theatre with my family. It's a small but authentic Greek restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff were really friendly. Thank you Zorba! I will come back 😀

We came here for our Valentines dinner. The waitresses were very kind and welcoming. The starters were absolutely delicious. We had the fried feta and feta dip (can you tell we like cheese). Because it was Valentine’s Day they gave us a complimentary cream cake which was lovely. Will definitely be coming back soon!

Lived in Chelmsford for 2 years now and only just discovered this place. Went for my birthday as a group of 4. The service, the food and the value for money are fantastic. Don't usually leave reviews, but this place is worth every penny and would love to see it grow and get the credit it deserves. You may want to starve yourself before going as the food and portions are fantastic. Photo is of the third course. Amazing place, will be back soon.

We’ve visited Zorba’s many times the last 2-3 years and honestly, it gets better every time. The food is just amazing, delicious and plentiful. Authentic dishes (and being Greek myself, I should know!) with plenty to choose from, and from the first bite, you’ll swear you’re eating in Greece. Stella and the team go over the top to make sure you’re welcomed like family, fed till you feel like you’re going to burst, and send you home with a smile. Whether it’s family time, dinner with friends or couples, you will have an amazing time. If you haven’t been yet, wait no longer, get down there!

Eaten here a few times now. Lovely food,kind and attentive staff and a casual,relaxed feel to the place. If you like Greek food,I would highly recommend them.We enjoyed the Mezze. Plenty to eat and a wide variety of dishes to tuck into.Thankyou

Extremely nice food, very good size portions

Great little venue, very welcoming staff. I had the lamb cutlets and honestly, they were the tastiest cutlets I've ever had. On the bone but char grilled with sooo much flavour. Very good portion size...you won't leave hungry!

Great service and really nice food at a reasonable price. We had fried feta, kleftiko and stifado both good sizes and very tasty. Nice atmosphere would recommend.

First time visiting Zorba’s and was blown away by the authentic Greek food. The atmosphere was charming, and the service was perfect. The moussaka was amazing! I highly recommend to anyone looking for high-quality, authentic Greek cuisine. I am already planning on returning soon!

Having gone to chelmsford we looked at several Greeks and mistakenly chose Zorba as it was near bus station and easy to get home, service was attentive but the place was freezing and only one of the air con heaters was on we moved and she did try to direct heater onto us but we ended up putting our padded coats back on like the table next to us, the mixed grill was ok slightly over cooked and the rice and meatballs Luke warm we didn’t say anything as rice was under the meat and any more heating would have dried it out salad was basic salad no feta ,as our fingers were getting cold we ate half and asked to take home the other half , Such a shame tho could have been. A Good experience certainly wasn’t the romantic Meal we expected

Cold restaurant even though heating was on. Maybe because under a railway arch. Had the meze. Meat lamb chicken and pork skewers are bought ready made and cooked from frozen not impressed. Calamari and chips ready made again and cooked from frozen. Salad had no taste no seasoning had to put salt and pepper on it. Dips was okay apart from the tzatziki just tasted like plain yoghurt no garlic and not enough cucumber. I am half greek and been to a few greek restaurants this is an insult to greek food. Would of been better to just add another couple of pound on the meze and make everything fresh.

Excellent small Greek restaurant in arches undef railway, very close to the station. Very friendly service. Traditional Greek dishes which are very tasty and nicely presented.

Ordered a takeaway via Just Eat, it arrived on time and it was hot, however , £18 for a few Calamari rings and a shed load of chips just doesn’t cut for value for money. Don’t do it.

This place is very authentic cooking, the staff were very friendly and food was delicious. I would highly recommend here and will definitely be returning. The lamb cutlets were amazing.

Oh I adore this place! Finally discovered they do spanakopita and it was fabulous! The salads are always plentiful and very fresh with beautiful dressing too! The staff are so lovely and friendly which is always great. I also absolutely love the moussaka with chips and salad. Amazing delicious home cooked comfort food beautifully presented… Oh and do not miss out on the potokalopita very moreish!

Being in the area for a wedding my wife and I searched for a well reviewed restaurant to eat dinner before the big day. Zorba’s come well up the list so we booked it for 7:30pm. Unexpectedly it turned out to be two arches of a railway viaduct! The decor was basic but pleasant, the staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was plentiful and very tasty. All in all pretty good. The only downside was the cost of the coffee, which we didn’t have because of the price. I always finish off with a coffee but not at £4.50 for an Americano. If you want a Cappuccino it’s £5.50! Otherwise, a good experience. And thank you to the lady who ran the place who found out where the nearest sports bar was so we could watch Jack Draper in the US Open semi-final in the tennis.

Fabulous little restaurant under the railway arches. We went for a quick bite before going to the theatre. Neither of us were very hungry so didn’t try as much as we would have. What we had was really delicious and the staff were so lovely. My daughter was so happy that there were gluten free pittas as many places don’t offer them. Can’t wait to go back again and try a full meal or the meze!

We recently ordered 45 souvlaki & cupcakes for our daughter's 18th birthday party. The food was delivered a little ahead of time, piping hot and conveniently wrapped in foil. The guests all really appreciated the food and commented on how delicious it was. It was perfect party food for teenagers and adults alike. Stella was extremely helpful throughout the booking process and we highly recommend Zorba the Greek Taverna.

Had an overnight stay in Chelmsford on business, wanted a good quality takeaway and the reviews here looked good, so decided to give this a try. The owners are clearly very passionate and put a lot of care and attention into their food. The lamb wrap was really tasty, with good quality meat, nice tzatziki just need a little more please!! Fried Greek cheese was nice and salty. The Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts was a huge portion and tasted delicious. The surprise star of the show was the homemade orange cake which was so so good! Make sure you try this! Would definitely book a table here if I visit the area again, as I am sure the food would be even better when served fresh to the table.

Zorba provided us with an array of food for a hen party and delivered it all named and wrapped up so that it stayed warm. The food was all amazing and definitely good value for money! All communications from the staff (Stella) were really helpful and friendly, and the cake that Stella made was beautifully decorated and delicious! I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant or getting a takeaway as the food is authentically Greek and very, very good!

Zorba’s catered for my Mamma Mia themed hen party and did a fantastic job! The food was really authentic and there was loads of it. It was delivered in packages labelled for every guest with lots of food allergies catered for. They also made an excellent themed chocolate cake. I would definitely recommend Zorba’s to anyone.

Been coming here most weeks for years now. I was lucky enough to grow up as part of a Greek family and in a part of London where top Greek restaurants are in abundance. Chelmsford isn’t as diverse and densely populated with Greeks so I’m glad I’ve found this gem From the food to the service and all round hospitality everything is top draw and nothing is to much. Real family run feel, the restaurant is an intimate venue with a great atmosphere. Highly recommended

Our fav go to place in Chelmsford! Souvlaki wraps are super tasty and nice, love the tzatziki and the musaka too. We tried almost all things on the menu and we keep on coming back for more.

This restaurant gives very generous helpings so be cautious in courses ordered. Went on a special live music night so not usual menue only grilled not oven food. However the manager allowed me to have my favourite course of Kleftico which I enjoyed, though was a bit dry. Music live was most enjoyable.

I stopped in for a bite to eat while out with colleagues and was pleasantly surprised. The welcome was warm, and the food was fantastic. I enjoyed this restaurant under its previous ownership and visited often, but now, under the new ownership, I absolutely love it! The quality of the food has improved (and it was great before!), the service is impeccable, and it feels like you're genuinely experiencing authentic Greek food and hospitality. I'll definitely be coming back many times in the future. This is a small, hardworking business doing an excellent job of thriving in these challenging times. Gather your friends and just go!

What a lovely warm welcome and gorgeous food. Three of us has the mixed meze and everything was delicious. Plenty of food so much that we ended taking some home. Clean friendly family run restaurant that we will definitely be reccomending to all our friends and family.

You will not find a better more traditional Greek restaurant than this. Food is all very traditional and brilliantly done everything was absolutely delicious, price is better than reasonable and the portion sizes are huge so make sure to go on empty stomach! Will be regular visitors now.

We came here on a Saturday night and everything was brilliant. Service was so quick and friendly. All the food we had was cooked fresh and all amazing. The lamb literally fell off the bone! Greek wine was great too, bold. Finished off with baklava and homemade cakes which are absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend coming here to anyone looking for top quality food and evening.

This is the absolute best Greek food that I have ever had! The portions are huge, food is so delicious and fresh and the service was impeccable. All the desserts were very good as well! The sweet owners and workers were very kind and recommended great dishes. We can’t wait to come back, we LOVED Zorba the Greek. Thank you thank you!

Food and service experience exelent

Visited Sat 16th March 24 with 5 other ladies from our dining & afternoon tea group. We have worked through the alphabet & this was our last letter. We certainly ended our journey at an absolute gem of a place. The portions of food were substantial & it was very tasty. The staff were friendly. A very popular place as most of the tables were taken.

This was the best Greek experience!!! Everything from atmosphere to food was finger licking delicious and whoever hasn't tried their homemade filled croissants yet, you need to do it ASAP. These croissants are the best thing I've eaten in UK so far. Thank you for an amazing experience ❤️

The food is great here although it could do with a slightly larger menu. Maybe prawns or sea bream. Staff are nice and friendly. Only problem is it is so cold it spoils it. Needs plenty of heating then I'd be coming much more often.

Came here for Valentines with my wife as we both love Greek food and we absolutely loved it. The fried Feta is absolutely amazing and I had the garlic sausage souvlaki for main which was also lovely! The beer was cold and the service was excellent! Our waiter Ervin was brilliant. Really attentive and very funny. A real credit to the restaurant!

For the cost of a mixed grill and what you would expect I was very disappointed with a two small strips of bread with it

We enjoyed our meal at Zorba - the staff were friendly & helped us decide what to order as there was so much choice on the menu. The food was all delicious, and the portions are generous so we took leftovers home. Would highly recommend leaving room for the dessert - the cheesecake was the highlight of our visit!

The meat literally melts in your mouth and everything is always fresh, served hot and presented perfectly. I rarely write a bad review, however on this occasion I feel I need to. We are a Greek Cypriot family and were looking forward to a meal with friends and trying out the reopened restaurant . First a positive, the young lady that served us was lovely and we all really liked her . We opted for a meze at £27 per head for 7 of us The salad was probably the only item that had been freshly made, although the olives were drenched in vinegar, I have never eaten olives that tasted pickled , we all Agreed this wasn’t nice and I nearly choked on the one I bit into as the unexpected vinegar shot down my throat . The dips and bread were nice but none were freshly prepared all definitely bought it . The gigantes were from a tin ( I buy similar ones myself ) Everything else was clearly from the freezer and warmed up The chips were nice The spanokorizo was like rice with a ton of green slimy sludge as the spinach had not been chopped so just stuck together in a wet clump. When what should have been the star of the meal Arrived ( the meat skewers) they were definitely pre frozen bought in and so over cooked they were inedible The food was laid out on big plates with no effort or garnish There was no room on the table for the huge serving plate , small Plates would have been better. I understand the lack of space but the two huge chest freezers in the entrance could at least be disguised The chairs were uncomfortable and i did not feel like I was sitting in a Greek taverna One toilet was out of order ( fair enough it may just have broken ) But the other toilet with random Table in it with a couple of wet towels on it and Two random chairs , as I sat on the toilet I was being stared at by a Henry hoover sitting under one of the chairs !! As the only Greek restaurant in the area you really need to up your game and cook the food from scratch There was only one other table occupied on a Saturday night but the other restaurants in duke street were very busy ,a sign that something is wrong!!

I have tried lots of things on the menu but keep returning to the moussaka which is just awesome. Delivery was prompt and food still hot. Highly recommend and will undoubtedly use again.

Friends birthday with20 people. It was pre booked and deposits paid so no reason for them to struggle with cooking and service. I think this is a take away rather than restaurant. You walk in and there's freezers in the entrance. I ordered the meze and the bread was cold and quite plain tasting. The calamari and meze sausage meat all looked shop bought. The skewers were over cooked and dry. The meat was of a quality meat. I was served wine with a £6.99 sticker on it but charged £21. The birthday girl chose the venue and the restaurant phoned her because I'd added this negative review. Two other people from our party felt the need to add positive reviews to counteract mine. That is the purpose of trip adviser.

Lovely atmosphere and pleasant service. My friends enjoyed their food as did I, but unfortunately my falafel were very dry and tasted a bit store-bought. I'd say that the price is a little on the high side (£100 for 4 main courses, the cheapest bottle of red and a diet coke).
