Amazing food, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. I've been coming here for years, I highly recommend the Massaman and Pad Thai.

Food is absolutely amazing, real authentic Thai food and the host is attentive and friendly. Try it and I can guarantee you will return.

Always enjoy eating at Lanthong . My boyfriend introduced me to this place 2 years ago and was impressed then, as I am today. Great food with lots of variety for different tastes and dietary needs. Very friendly staff and always enjoy chatting to the owners. Have taken my brother and friends to this place and they come away with a happy and full tummy 😊. Fully recommend x

The restaurant is tucked away nicely so that you can enjoy a quiet, lovely evening. The food was excellent, especially the yellow curry. Service made us feel right at home. Would definitely recommend and will definitely visit again.

We love this place, we're still surprised by how long it took us to discover this gem. Dave is great front of house. The mixed starters are definitely a must. We are never disappointed with our choices or the excellent service.

This was my first Thai experience and as a veggie ordered the sweet & sour tofu with special fried rice (meat and fish kindly removed). It was amazing!! Delicious and hot!! We were a party of thirteen consisting of meat/fish and veggie eaters. Everyone was catered for. There was not a grumble about anyone's meal :) General consensus was 10/10 for taste, quantity, presentation and price .Conversations were had re: returning with family & friends - me included! We had pre-ordered our food, however there was a last minute cancellation plus an unexpected additional guest arrived! The staff dealt with this swiftly and smoothly. All the staff were most accommodating, very attentive and just lovely people. Many thanks to Su, David and the lovely young lady who made us all so very welcome.

The food was really tasty and authentic. We had the menu for 3 people and we enjoyed all the dishes, especially the one with the duck and the curry one. The mango sticky rice was delicious as well.

We tried spring rolls, stuffed chicken wings, and pad Thai. Despite a 20-minute wait, the food was excellent, making the patience worthwhile.

We had the set menu for two and meal was excellent with good variety and very fresh and tasty. Service very good 👍

Arrived early in the evening- almost missed the entrance (restaurant is upstairs). Atmosphere was excellent, staff very attentive and the food was freshly made and delicious. One of the best Thai restaurant we have eaten at and due to our work we eat out all over the UK. Thank you David. We highly recommend this restaurant.

WOW. I do not usually take the time out of my busy day to write any reviews. On a trip away from home for a while, one night I decided to go into town for something to eat. Upon entry I was greeted by lovely staff members who kindly sat me at my table. I had ordered beef noodle soup which I was looking forward to as I have never had it before. All I can say is that I was blown away by the tender beef and the burst of flavours, made me feel right at home in some way. I will purposely come back to this restaurant, even if it is not a part of my busy schedule. The family that run this authentic Thai Restaurant are amazing and are a real treasure to the area. I would suggest that anyone that can, please try, as you will NOT regret it.

Took my daughter for lunch at Lanthong. My daughter and I had the lunch menu. We chose Spare ribs and Prawn Pad Thai. The Spare Ribs were amazing unfortunately the Pad Thai was not, the Pad Thai tasted of nothing but sweet and sour sauce. Very disappointed.

Bloody awful! Red and green curry - both yellow grainy slop. Thais would be ashamed to come to UK and eat here!

Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. Hands down the best satay chicken and prawns on toast we’ve ever had, obviously fresh and homemade 10/10 would recommend

Dined here on our last night of the trip. Owner very friendly and helpful. Chef has been there for years and uses only authentic ingredients, and you could tell. Huge choice of food, manager very helpful if we had any questions. They were happy to amend the spice level if required. Extensive wine list at reasonable prices. Altogether excellent and we would go back. Thank you

Wow, the food here is genuinely SO good. Came with my partner because of the online reviews and trust me, they were not wrong. The food is so flavoursome and beautifully presented. I take my virtual hat off to them 10/10.

Visited for the first time last night, a small, friendly and slightly dated restaurant provided us with great service and the food was excellent, we sampled one of the set menu's with some additional dishes and enjoyed them all. For me the chili chicken was the star of the show . Price was very reasonable and we will be returning soon.

Had a wonderful experience at Lanthong last night. We booked in advance as we were uncertain how busy it would be. We were greeted personally which was really lovely and seated, the restaurant was empty save for a group of 4 however the atmosphere was really lovely, because it was calm, intimate and relaxing. And meant the service was pretty quick! We were told that usually during the week there's no need to book but it's usually a good idea to book for a Friday or Saturday evening. We ordered a couple of starters: Thai Dim Sum and Thai Fish Cakes. Both really delicious. Then we ordered a Chicken Thai Green Curry to share, I had the Honey Roast Duck Breast and my fiance had a Hot Beef Red Curry. We had a Jasmine Rice each. There was plenty of food and it was absolutely heavenly. All the food was presented beautifully. We asked to take home what was left of the curries and ordered desserts. I had banana fritter with ice cream which was incredible and my fiance had a pistachio and saffron ice cream. We will definitely be back, I can't believe we haven't been sooner! Looking forward to our next visit.

Cracking Thai in the centre of Chelmsford...

It's a little hidden gem in the heart of Chelmsford. Hard to find the entrance as it's a small door leading up to the restaurant, but once there, staff is welcoming, professional, friendly and just the ideal place to enjoy some nice Thai cuisine. I've also bought via takeaway (on Deliveroo), the waiting time was exactly as advertised so no bad surprises there either, compared to some other places in Chelmsford! The food itself has been great every time I've used this restaurant, fresh and flavoursome, the portions are of decent size and prices are certainly very reasonable. I love their coconut milk curry, highly recommend (ps: I'm vegetarian but there are options for all types of eaters!). I would recommend highly if you fancy some nice and hearty Thai food :)

Extremely hard to find this restaurant. Definitely dont attempt to collect from there. Also didn't get the fresh sence I get from other thai cuisine. No crunch to anything I ordered ie sat in juices. For to long.

My wife is Thai and loves the food here. Do a really good lunch deal ; starter and main plus Tea or Coffee for £9.95

Still the best Thai in Chelmsford. It's tucked away and the decor isn't fancy but the food is fantastic and I'm so pleased it's survived the pandemic.

Me and my partner love this place and have to say that every time we go, we try something different and fall in love with it all over again. It is a small restaurant and very clean and well kept. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and we will always come here if we fancy a tasty Thai meal. We will be returning.

We have always loved Thai food and we know what good tastes like! This is why we are regular diners at the Lanthong. The atmosphere and service is fantastic but it is the quality of the food which really makes the restaurant stand out. We have visited the restaurant many times during the past few years and we cannot recommend it highly enough.

The atmosphere was relaxing, not crowd, not noise. All the items are quality and refer to Asian / Thai culture. The duck dish was served on a duck shape 🐥 plate. The food was fresh, spicy and hot, by the book. Alright prices and parking 50meters away.

A thai meal should be bursting with flavour and spice. Our meal was not!! One very sweet red curry and a very bland massaman. Really plain + bland pad see ew. Thai food should NEVER be bland. This feast was so lacklustre and we were disappointed. The positives were the satay sauce and the little pickles on the side.

Always loved this place. 1st and best in Chelmsford. But had take away tonight 30.12.2020 and gone down hill. Prices seem to have gone up and food down. Red snapper didn't come as whole fish as usual but bits with a few bits of pepper in some sauce. Definitely not worth £13/£14 AND THE PAD THAI WAS The BLANDEST I've ever tasted. Needs to buck up or it will be gone!!

Our first visit here after the easing of social restrictions. As always a great meal and service at Lanthong. The food is always excellent and I particularly enjoyed the Kai Pad Phed as a main course. Covid guidelines being enforced and we were felt safe and comfortable. This is my favourite restaurant in Chelmsford and it was great to go back.

Really good food and good service!

We usually visit this restaurant and although not the best a fairly good Thsi. We had a takeaway tonight Bank Holiday Monday and it was poor. Thete were 4 very very small ribs tiny portion and very fatty. The massaman beef curry was very oily and just potatoes and beef not nuts or thicker sauce. The jingle curry wasnt too bad. Overall £40 for 5 dishes small and oily very poor. I think they were concentrating on booking in the eat out customers. We wont be visiting again we were regulars but this experience was very poor indeed.

Ich habe die Papaya Salat, Rote Fisch Curry und Fischroggen Gerichten gegessen. Papaya Salat war sooooo lecker, ich konnte nicht aufhören!! Rote Fisch curry war auch sooooo lecker. Fischroggen auch und man kann auch weniger scharf bestellen.

We were coming out from the Odeon Cinema and love Thai food, and just spotted this restaurant upstairs. The waiter / barman was very friendly, and the food was home cooked and delicious, also reasonably priced. It was not busy on a Wednesday night, but a Thai family arrived to eat, so thats always a good sign! The owner was equally very charming and we will certainly go back again.Thank you for making our evening a perfect one.

This restaurant is a little gem, although hard to see from the road as it’s based upstairs and is only small. But boy the food is fantastic never tasted Thai like it😍. This is turning into my favourite road in Chelmsford 😁.

If you like thai food this is the place for you. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is so fresh and well presented. It is cooked once you order and worth a wait which isn't that long considering.

Great food, great service. Decor is simple but adds to the ambiance in my opinion. Toilets clean, always a good sign. You have to look for this restaurant as it’s upstairs via a little door and not glaringly obvious. Well worth a visit.

I never had Thai tripe soup before and it was amazing. Home made spring rolls too, which my 3 year old needed another portion of they were so good. Everything here is excellent. The chef has been there for years and they really know how to cook up a storm. One of the most memorable Thai meals I have had in years, and I have had a few!

My partner had a soup and meaty rice, both of which he loved. Though I was a bit disappointed but this was a personal preference thing. I had a vegetarian soup which I enjoyed but my main tofu dish wasn't the best, a very (and I mean very) soft tofu was used which made the dish unappealingly mashy, some may prefer this but I really did not. It was also a shame that there were no vegetables in the dish (something I've come you expect in veggie dishes at other Thai places), this just made it lack something and seem quite uninteresting unfortunately. There were a few really tiny pieces of pepper, but really nothing of note. Having said this I do still feel the general flavours in the dish (ginger and whatever was in the sauce) were nice. The staff seemed great, totally happy with the service we received.

We had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. The food was delicious and authentically Thai. We ordered a Som Tam, a prawn Tom Yum, a chicken green curry with rice. They were all delicious and reasonably priced. The service was fantastic and very friendly, I will definitely be going back to this restaurant again!

Wanted to find a place to eat something before the movies at the ODEON. Fancied Thai and found this place on the first floor just 5 mins round the corner. Easy to miss! All freshly cooked food - super tastes. Friendly family run.

Have been coming since the restaurant opened in the 90s. Having been to Thailand and had thai food in a number of restaurants in the UK this is without doubt the best. The food is authentically thai and my personal favourites are the red snapper, som tam and beef soup (on the lunch menu). The service is excellent and the staff are very accommodating of families and young children. All in all it is a must visit for all lovers of Thai and Asian food.

Disappointing!! Hardly any meat in any of the dishes. Portions are very small for their price. In a chicken dish for £11 there were only four or five chicken bits. If you’re looking for a hearty meal- don’t order here!!

After reading reviews we decided to give this place another chance after eating here before. We ordered a delivery and was gobsmacked by the portion sizes we ordered 4 dishes which averaged £11 a dish and all dishes were half full of a standard takeaway carton. The yellow curry was oily and waterey it was so sweet you could barely eat it the other dishes mediocre. Phad Thai had 3 prawns in and lacked flavour. We are big fans of Thai food but this was appalling we thought this place had changed but sadly it’s worse than I remember it being. Such a rip off for money steer clear if you really want the true taste of Thai food.

This was out first ever Thai food and we went with friends that have eaten here before. Really enjoyed the food and the excellent service. A little old fashioned decor but a nice change from the chain restaurants. Chang beer was good (another 1st) and enjoyed the mixed starters very much. Will definitely go back.

This is a great hidden jem. Up the stairs into the ole thai restaurant. They have a great selection of dishes. The staff are always great and the food has always come out piping hot. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Extensive menu with the usual Thai meals, reasonable wine list, all at acceptable prices. The most important thing was the food and it was excellent. Good portions and full of flavour. Nice friendly ladies serving with a genuine smile. Definitely worth a visit.

This is probably not a restaurant that we would choose for a special occasion; it is hidden up a flight of stairs and the decor is fairly simple. However the service was friendly and the food was very good. The price was reasonable and we will certainly go again as it is local to us.
