Sugar Palm Restaurant in Chelmsford

The food is really good but the portions get worse and worse every time. Seriously just spent £65 odd and you have to skimp on the rice? Sort it out

We've ordered from here a few times and its always been great. This time wasn't good. The tempura prawns starter didn't seem to be tempura, just batter, and the prawns still had shell on, inside the batter! And the meat with each main course was dry and a bit chewy. Disappointed!

Red curry and soup absolutely delicious. Prawns were cooked really well and the veg still crunchy

Food was cold and the restaurant told me to cancel order and give to driver who refused to take it back despite restaurant being on phone and now I’ve not have my refund. So food went in bin and no refund. Avoid

Food was great, tasted like authentic Thai, only thing was the squid and pancake rolls were a bit soggy by the time it arrived.

First time of ordering and it was fairly easy to order. Was slightly disappointed with estimated delivery time, but was more than pleasantly surprised when it was delivered early. Well early in fact, but that was no problem at all. The food itself was really very good and nice and hot. Will be back for more soon.

The starter was very poor for £15!!! The curry was nice but for a £30 order was definitely not worth the money. Very disappointed

I ordered beef and prawns Pad Thai and I must say that they were simply the worst Pad Thai I’ve ever eaten. Beef was an unmarinated rag and the prawn was just as tasteless. I honestly won’t recommend these guys to anyone. I wish I could give them 0 stars for food quality

2nd time in a row food has taken close to an hour and a half and I am a 5 minute drive from the restaurant. Foods good but looks like it’s Giggling Squid moving forward.

The Phad Med which I ordered tasted so good! I would definitely recommend ordering from Sugarpalm!!

We have used sugar palm loads but tonight's takeaway service was appalling .. I rang and placed my order to be told a link would be sent to pay .. no link I rang 3 Times. Delivery driver then rang to check where our address was 🙈 our order arrived and it was wrong then the owner of this establishment rang me from his mobile in his car .. I explained I wasn't happy with the service to be told he was short staffed .. hmm roll up your sleeves mate and remember where you started !! Never will we go back

The food was pretty good, the vegetable tempura wasn’t great as there was quite a few bits of batter that had no vegetables in at all. And one thing we couldn’t really understand was why everything was wrapped in cling film, the food was in plastic tubs and foil containers but were wrapped in cling film as well and this meant that the cling film was pretty much melted to the containers, making them an absolute pain. The Massaman curry was really nice, and had so much chicken in it, would happily have that again. The ribs were good as well, they were left with no meat left on them at all.

Quick delivery, food was very hot and tasty. Delivery driver was also very polite, would order from her again

the soup was not tom yam it just tasted of ginger and lemon grass

The massaman curry is unreal so so good. The squid starter was not nice at all really rubbery like plastic.

Wow!! Delicious food, quick delivery on New Year’s Eve, would absolutely order again, brilliant!!

The vegetable massaman curry with tofu had little bits of chicken in it, which is terrible for a vegetarian dish. The pad Thai was overcooked and didn’t taste good. The chicken satay starter was really good but everything else average at best. Food also delayed by 30 minutes too. Won’t be ordering from them again.

Brilliant service. I failed to order rice (my bad) and incredibly, this lovely takeaway sent some rice free very quickly. AMAZING!!!

Honestly - it was one of the most delicious curries I've ever had. I could eat the whole thing again straight away. Stupendous.

Thought I’d try these again after a not so good experience before. But as before the pad Thai is tasteless. a very poor version of the pad Thai which is definitely not authentic cooking as stated by the restaurant in a previous review. Please try to change and and improve your recipe It hardly resembles a pad Thai Also pretty much no meet on the rib bones was very dissatisfying

Amazing food, really good quality. Had the veggie platter and possibly could have done with some more rice. Genuinely the only complaint on the taste/portions though! There was a half hour delay getting to us but was impressed that the restaurant kept us informed and also the driver found our location easily as we often have people struggling to find us.

Sticky rice was ridiculous. Just one solid lump. Pad Thai wasn’t very nice at all, had a very horrible smell. Starters were very average. Shame as read nice reviews.

Don’t order sticky rice. It was a disgusting solid lump wrapped in cling film and microwaved. Couldn’t even tear it apart let alone eat it. Green curry was average but hardly any chicken. Duck pancake rolls (2) small and sliced in half diagonally to look better. Not worth the money. Go elsewhere

Although initially there was an error with the order, this was rectified promptly without question showing just how important customer service is to this restaurant . Food was cooked to a very high standard and tasted amazing. First time customer and will be returning.

The food was pretty vile - £9 curry had about £0.50 worth of chicken in - Tempura was soggy - 0 star if available - Delivery time good but cannot give anything to remove this from bottom rating

First time I have used Sugar Palm but definitely not the last. Fastest delivery ever, really delicious Green Thai, well presented and no leaks from tubs. Will definitely use again.

Delivered on time, crackers, Penang curry and spring rolls were lovely but the chicken wings were a little bit dry and the pad thai lacked flavour however the massive portion sizes made up for it! Would be good if it came with a little sachet of soya sauce :)

Lovely food, and delivery on time

Food arrived a little earlier than expected, and was really tasty. Only one small issue was the rice was a little stodgy but did not affect taste, But overall good take away and we will be ordering again from them.

Delivery and re-delivery all fine but the quality of Thai food is very poor. Pad Thai was a congealed lump and red curry was passable. Not one to complain but this is nowhere near the standard you would expect for £30.

Yummy food; double or triple wrapped up so zero leaks! Arrived earlier than scheduled by a friendly, polite driver. First time ordering, but will we order again.

Sadly, on this occasion the food was not good at all. It was all cold and the tempura was soggy. The rice tub wasn’t filled up either. We’d ordered from here before and it has always been good before, but very sad to say that this time it was very disappointing.

Absolutely delicious, and I speak as someone who has been visiting Thailand since 1966.

Food was great and restaurant explained why the food was late, but the driver changed the status to delivered on time, when it was actually 50 mins late.

The food tasted absolutely gorgeous, I was so pleased to see that you are doing delivery. It would have been six stars if it had been hotter, but it was lukewarm I'm afraid, and I'm not happy to heat up takeaway food, so that spoilt the experience a bit.

I have to say that this was by far the worst Thai food I have ever experienced. I love Thai food and have eaten some amazing food from fantastic restaurants. Sugar Palm does not deserve the mantle of Thai restaurant. Microwaved mush, non crispy, soggy batter, tasteless red curry with all the geat if an ice cube and a block of stodgy noodles tasting of sawdust. I never leave food on my plate .... till now!

Flavourless food and over priced

Food was awful. Sticky rice had been microwavd in clingfilm and pad thai had hardly any ingrediants apart from noodles. Spare ribs were ok but red thai curry tasted like it had come out of a can. Not good and will not order again!

Stir fry had very little taste and curry was far too spicy and sweet. Rice was not the best either. Fish cakes like rubber and chicken wings inedible.

The general quality of our food was very poor. Noodles rubbery and stuck together in one unappetising ball with a couple of funny tasting prawns thrown in. Fish cakes were unrecognisable and inedible. The only “fresh” half decent dish was the salt and pepper squid, but even that was £7 for five pieces. I suspect the chef that cooked my food doesn’t cook food like that for their family. Maybe they should to get some advice.

New to chelmsford and this is our first time ordering from Sugar Plum, I had the Tom Yam mixed seafood to start which was really really nice. My wife had the red chicken curry with the jasmine rice and I had the Pla ma kham-sea bass my first time trying this dish it was nice maybe not something I will have regulary but will try again at some point. My wife said it is 1 of the best red currys she has ever had. I think it is safe to say we will definitely be ordering from here again and once we can get back to going out to eat we will be coming for a sit down meal.

Food was very tasty but they mixed up the order and gave use Penang with duck and red curry with chicken.

We purchased a take away our first time with sugar palm and it will be the last!!. We ordered the set meal B and additional dish. It arrived warm the noodles were rubbery like they had been re heated, there was hardly any chicken in my dish it looked like it was frozen chicken. The other dishes were greasy we threw it out but concerned now we are going to have food poisoning! At 25 pound ahead it was disgusting worst take away we have ever had.

Food was very bland. Expensive for what it is! Did not taste of pad Thai at all and only 4 prawns in my whole dish!!

Ordered nearly £30 of food to be sent what looked like scraps. Crab cakes tasted nothing like they’re supposed to, the sticky rice (pouch) was horrible and dry, the green chicken curry was average at best and overall left me disappointed that I made the mistake of ordering from this place. At a time when you would think restaurants would be doing their best to make sure customer orders are the best they can be to ensure repeat business, this felt like they couldn’t have cared less. Will never order from this place again, and judging by the ‘food’ they sent me, would recommend them to anyone else either. Simply put...overpriced and horrible food.

Food was amazing and the driver was early and very polite couldn't ask for better service. I will be recomending sugar palm to all my friends.

very good. only think that didn't travel well was the mixed starter where everything that should have been crispy was soggy and the flat noodles all stuck together and was mushy.
