The Fox at Shipley in South Staffordshire

Lunch visit. Very busy and we were shoved up to corner on a table that was wonky. Most of staff were freindly, however, one was surly. Food was average, mate we made the wrong choices. Two things we asked for were not available. Disappointed overall as we had always heard good things about the place from freinds.

Nice place friendly staff good food could do with better choice of vegetables with the lunch but the food we did have was lovely

Never feel very welcome here. Rushed out at end of meal. Food always good but portion size has been reduced whilst price stays high. Two for one is farcical as they blatantly just charge more to justify halving the price. Desserts are extortionate £7.50 for a sundae that has one scoop of ice cream. I won’t be returning now I’ve given this place enough of my time.

Booked two large tables for 21 of us to celebrate 3 family members birthdays. Quick and friendly service, lovely meals except for one which was refunded. Will definitely return soon.

We came here for lunch on a Saturday. We'd thought about coming here for some time as we live nearby and the place is always very busy which is a good sign. We had our grandson with us and the weather was good so we were very grateful for the small children's play are outside which kept him very happy while we chatted. I think that because the pub is always so busy we expected something really special and I don't think that that is how I would describe the Fox. I should be clear that we had no complaints whatsoever. The menu is packed with a choice of lots of good old pub food staples and there is something there for most tastes. The pub is well laid out and is clean and tidy and the staff are all fine. The food when it came was decent quality, very tasty and the portions were spot on. It was good value for money. I'd like to see more dishes including vegetables or at least a side dish of vegetables available but that's a minor point. There's a good range of beers too and the car park always has plenty of space even when it's very busy. We now know exactly what to expect. It's a decent pub providing decent food in decent surroundings. We'll probably come back for more, I'm especially intrigued by the Sunday menu and the place is always heaving on a Sunday so I think we'll give that a go soon.

Well, what can I say!!! Went for sunday dinner nice friendly staff, food was excellent!! But the portions were very big, especially the Sunday dinner, but I'll be back 😉

The Fox at Shipley is a wonderful, warm and welcoming pub to visit. I went with a good friend of mine for lunch. We had reserved a table and were shown to our place by the smiling waitress. Our table was in a quiet area and very comfortable. We ordered drinks at the bar and were served by a very friendly young man. We chose our meal from the 12 to 6 special lunchtime menu. There was a great choice, something for every taste. I chose the veggie lasagne served with garlic bread ( chips an optional extra) and my friend had chicken with a cajun dip, served with chips and salad. We both happily cleared our plates. The dessert menu was extensive and very tempting, sadly, we were both full. The staff worked hard to clean tables as soon as they were vacated and everywhere was clean and tidy. When we left a staff member thanked us for our custom and said she hoped to see us again. Well, we certainly will be back. It was a lovely experience.

Lovely food , well cooked, reasonable prices, great staff especially Viv who looked after us, would recommend anyone to go there and we will certainly go again. Portions so large 2 of our party asked for doggy bags

Came here for father's day meal , it's our first time visiting we had booked a table but we arrived earlier than expected but the waitress showed us straight away to a table , there is a great choice of food on the menu and it's reasonably price . Lovely friendly pub, extensive menu, with homemade items, the cottage pie is fab and the beef and mushroom pie highly recommended.

What can I say. An amazing meal. Came for my friend's birthday. They were lovely on the phone whilst booking as I said we had a four legged friend coming with us too. They were very accommodating and it wasn't a bother at all. Arrived a little late, but was greeted and shown to our table, staff very friendly. I had the 2 courses for 19.50. the squid to start followed by the best fish pie ever! Was full of lovely salmon, prawns etc, the sauce was lovely and the mash and cheese on top was delicious. Felt guilty as I didn't manage to eat all my chips and salad. It was great value and I can't wait to come and have this meal again. My friend had the ceaser salad. It is a busy place considering location but has plenty of parking. A large menu offering standard pub food and portions are reasonable as a family of twelve we had a large selection of what was on offer. At times bar staff were under pressure resulting in long waits and drinks are not the cheapest. My fish was nice but I prefer the home cooked chips not the packet variety. It's not a bad place but there are better options in the area.

Been in for Sunday lunch today. The portion size is excellent, if you’re not a big eater you might need to ask for a smaller portion. We had the roast beef and there was loads of meat, Yorkshire pudding, pig in blanket, stuffing, roast parsnips, peas, carrots and broccoli. The only negatives were that the weirdly add a garnish (some leafy kinda stuff) on the top which doesn’t really belong on a roast and, if I’d got to take a guess, the meat isn’t freshly cooked and carved on site - I’d say it comes out of a packet. We will be back though as despite the packet beef we really enjoyed the meal, I think we’d have lamb shank next time though. I would say to give it a try and the food is nice and the portions are big. Staff were really friendly and helpful too!

Having always received good food here I was very disappointed with my last visit. I went to ask what the roast meat was and the young man behind the bar and the waitress carried on talking so I interrupted them to which the waitress kindly informed me. It wasn’t very busy. I ordered a hot drink and went to ask where it was after 10 minutes because the service was slow. Given I have been many times during the day and had much better service and food. The meals arrived and everything was fine apart from the roast beef. It was tough as old boots so couldn’t eat it all. When we left the waitress hadn’t come to clear the plates.Had she done so I would have informed her of our disappointing meal so wouldn’t have needed to write this review. It would be helpful in future if the waitress could go to the customer’s and ask if everything is ok with their meal

What a fantastic meal,and service.Had the homemade soup of the day,which was served piping hot with a nice toasted bread roll,followed by the homemade steak and mushroom in ale pie with beautiful chips,and peas,carrots and broccoli. Very filling,and we couldn’t finish it all.Highly recommend this place.

Attended as a party of 9 on Saturday evening, able to accommodate us at fairly late notice, excellent service from the moment we arrived. We were allowed to take our dog with us which is a bonus. Made to feel very welcome. Extensive menu choice whether you wanted to order from set menu or main menu, nothing was too much trouble when ordering with regards to changing what accompanied meals. Service was brilliant and expertly served all nine of us at the same time for both starters and main courses, sadly due to portion sizes we were left unable to try any puddings as we were all full to the brim and really enjoyed all that we'd eaten, we couldn't fault anything honestly. We had a family meal here for my daughter’s birthday. The service was exceptional, they couldn’t do enough to make sure our evening was perfect. The food was great and excellent value for money! Would definitely recommend.

The meat eaters in my party enjoyed their food. 3 of us were vegetarian. Disappointed with the 'roast' we had. The nut roast was mostly rice. I don't think there were any nuts. Roast potatoes were cooked in beef fat so we couldn't have any. Vegetables were good.

Fantastic food and excellent service. Faultless staff. Only one fault, they allow dogs in the restaurant. We were on a large table and a dog was allowed with its owner in the table next to us. Not very hygienic when you are eating. It does say on the window that dogs are allowed but I didn’t see it on the website.
