ITS NOT CLOSED! Visited the cafe after completing a walk along the Railway Walk to Awbridge. It’s had an upgrade and the Harry Potter theme has been replaced with some attractive refurbishment. Great food and pleasant service.

We stopped off for a quick lunch. What a great idea to make a cafe out of what was originally the local train station. Plus - a lovely building. Lots of outside seating with good coverage of umbrellas/sun shades. Unfortunately the coffee (decaff latte) was dreadful. I left it. My partners americano wasn't great. He said it tasted like instant nescafe. The food - I ordered smashed avo on sourdough with feta, two poached eggs and as an extra smoked salmon on the side. What I got was guacamole out of a jar, a sprinkle of feta, the sourdough hadn't been toasted enough it was soggy, and they forgot the smoked salmon which they brought very promptly when I pointed it out. I don't think the eggs were freshly cooked. My companion ordered prawn and crab sandwich. What they got - prawn and crabsticks. As most people know, crabsticks don't contain crab, they are artificially flavoured reconstituted fish. Just a point to the cafe, they are probably in breach of the CRA 2015 for stating it is something when it is something else entirely. The other issue of course is an allergy one. Guacamole, it was pointed out to me by staff contains tomato, but nowhere on the menu was this stated as an ingredient, which is very stupid, I suspect they will have serious issues here if they don't truly represent what they are selling. Please, please buy some avocados, mash them with a potato masher, add a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper, a squeeze of lemon. It takes 60 seconds! Buy some tins of crab. Buy some decent coffee. Increase your prices to reflect fresh food. It should have been lovely but it really was quite poor. I felt very sorry for the staff who tried very hard. They were not the problem at all and were very efficient. It was the food ingredients.

Have visited the cafe many times over the years. The recent refurb has refreshed the surroundings. Also, an extended menu is welcome. However, it's our worst meal there ever. The tea was fine but the rest disappointing. They failed to accurately record what my wife ordered and the panini was obviously thrown together and plastered in pesto. She couldn't finish eating it. I always have scrambled eggs on toast. The toast was thick but lacking in butter. It now seems it's a one egg dish as there was about half what it used to be. Value is good if the food is up to standard. The 'latte' I ordered was coffee in warm water. Asked for it to be changed. It was with little difference. It's such a pity they obviously are not responding or reacting to constructive criticism as the issues persist.

Chicken and bacon melt very bland. Waitress was wiping tables around us making it clear it was nearly closing. Have previously had brunch here which was OK. Not sure whether I will rush back

We selected the salted caramel cheesecake at £2.75 as it looked good value - however the 2 portions that were served was one of the ones on display cut in half, thus effectively doubling the price and so making us feel cheated.

We will not be returning to this cafe again we were disappointed on our last visit but thought we would give them a second chance, and they failed. Customer service was poor the the member of staff that took our order was miserable when taking our order and not at all welcoming. We were with another couple and by the time they had got their food we had eaten ours, although we ordered at the same time. And the coffee machine was very basic which made the coffee tasteless, and the food no better.

Myself and a friend decided to give the newly renamed and refurbished Platform cafe a visit today, whilst on a dog walk. The lady behind the counter was not very friendly, which is such a shame, as front of house is really important. We ordered 2 teas and a sausage for the dog. The 2 teas that were delivered were like warm water with milk in and the dogs cold, anaemic sausage was wrapped in some blue kitchen roll and dumped on the table. I've given it 2 stars for the lovely setting, but won't be returning.

Following all the recent publicity surrounding the reopening of this cafe, we were very eager to go and try it. Utterly disappointed at the standard of food, which frankly I wouldn’t serve to my dog. I had the hunters panini, where the panini itself was not even toasted properly, with the pre grated cheese unmelted and awful. The chicken was water pumped rubbish, the only saving grace was the bacon. We also had the crab and prawn sandwich. The granary was dry and not in fact granary, the filling was definitely from a tub and a cheap one at that. The coleslaw was cheap and not homemade either, as the menu stated. The tea was like dishwater and the glass my soft drink accompanied was dirty and still wet from wherever it came from. The staff seemed friendly, although they were eager to shut shop around 2.30, which was evident. It may well be family owned now, but it is by no means family run. Such an utter shame as the potential there is endless, the decor is lovely, although it was a little cramped. Not much of a selection of cakes and sadly, we we not be rushing back anytime soon. Prices are reasonable, but saying that, still disappointed in the quality of the food here.

Went and sat outside when trying the coffee realised it was literally Luke warm filter coffee from a jug with a bit of froth on it. This is not good enough the lady swore it was proper cappa? In 20 seconds I think not. From now on I think it will be a flask on the walk if this staff is on duty again. Terrible Today ashame as enjoyed it every other time even didn't mind the I floated prices. But not any more I'm afraid.

My boyfriend chose the full English breakfast and I chose the vegetarian cooked breakfast. We were offered a choice of tinned or fried tomatoes, how we wanted our eggs cooked and what I wanted to replace the mushrooms (I don't like them) with. Breakfast was served within about fifteen minutes - hot and delicious with generous portions. Lovely surroundings and there was a queue minutes after they opened at 10. Highly recommended!

We had a veggie and normal English breakfast at lunch time and it was great. Fabulous portions, good quality and lovely fresh bread from the local bakery. Staff were very friendly. Hello everyone! Happy Friday!(One star here is for Windmill bakery's granary bread!! the other is for location!)I'm so sorry but I have to have a little grievance to air......and the reason I'm airing it is because I do think the people of Wombourne deserve better....service and truth.....I went along to walk the dog in my locality and decided to support my local business by stopping off at the local railway cafe not far from Bratch, to have a coffee and a couple of pieces of toast and butter ...what a treat!!Now, I'm a foodie and work teaching all sorts of people about food..and you might think I'm being precious here..but my grievance is not about all the nasties in processed spreads or my personal choices .. it's about the expectation of honest service.... and well, honesty and the underrated effect of SMILING!!I asked for a coffe granary toast and real butter on the side. I made a little point about putting the butter( real butter please) on the side...I had a little joke about it but the owner was stony faced. So I got my coffee which was the price of a proper ground coffee but out of one of those little automatic machines. but tasted dreadful....some lovely granary toast which was lovely... and " butter"- which wasnt butter- on the side.So I took the pot up and asked if she could change it for real butter please as asked at the beginning. I was told..."Oh we dont do butter here" as if it was something from another planet (Except that its not really funny as why wouldn't the people in Wombourne be entitled to expect quality and value for money? ?)Now, what really made me cross was because she had ample opportunity to say that, when I was ordering -that they didnt "do" butter and not when I had ALREADY PAID! I really felt insulted actually..... She listend but had weighed it up and dcided to herself that I probably wouldn't notice the difference.Wrong! ...and a lesson that she shouldn't judge her clientele by her own standards. The price for two pieces of bread and spread was £2.10 now all the other cafes charge comparably with REAL butter srved automatically unless you ask otherwise, on the side.....fancy that! As they do up and down the country ...because it is what people expect! To cap it all off, there was a sign asking people to wipe down their own tables with a spray cleaner that obviously had been handled by anyone and everyone!! The whole point of staff doing this in these difficult times, is to CONTROL the environment as cafe owners not avoid the work of it!!! I saw elderly folk complying with this with a slight wry/put outl look on their face! The others who work at the cafe are absolutely and have always been, historically lovely and friendly and accommodating...but the older lady is not!How disappointing for my local cafe! I want it to be outstanding! This could be a real gem of a place and a goldmine if run properly...it is a fantastic location... if they had better service and quality food and opened for afternooin tea and after schoolers etc...---( last orders are at 2)Here endeth my rant. Please do better for the people of Wombourne! You know you can get tubs of butter at cash and carry!!

Second visit and I have to mention the poor customer service.... Admittedly, we arrived today at about 2.40 - they close at 3 - to be looked at like poo (invisible eye rolling!!!) and told only ice cream & takeaway drinks. Fine, but there was very limited choice and when we took our purchases outside into the garden we were snapped at to basically ‘move your asses’ as we want to go home. A lady then walked round the garden telling people to hurry up with their drinks..... Now, this is a privately run cafe and with glorious sunshine the railway track was bustling so they seriously missed a trick by being so very abrupt with their timekeeping. I get they want to go home but they are also offering a service to the local community and we weren’t the only ones offended by their attitude. Come on ladies, look at your reviews and maybe go on a Customer Service course!

The ladies who run the café are kind, polite, and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is ok,(although pricy) and quite good for such a small establishment. Not the biggest venue, and tends to get full of older people, and ramblers. If your walking, biking or walking the dog, it's a welcome stop off place for a drink. There is a little terrace outside if it's a nice day or full, and you can take your dog on there. Always a bowl of water handy for them. Not open on a Monday!

We moved - no problem, but the waitress (owner?) was very abrupt. Half an hour after arriving, we had not even had our order taken. It just wasn’t THAT busy............we left after a request for tea and cakes for 12 or so people generated another loud statement how short staffed they were. We waited while our food was freshly cooked and weren't disappointed when our order was delivered hot and appealing. We quickly downed the lot. A perfect start to the day. Top points for service and food. The setting is beautiful too. The Kingswinford railway runs the back of the cafe. This can be seen from the old platform where there are seats for diners to enjoy the surroundings. The trains went a long time ago and this is now a nature trail where people walk, jog, cycle etc. Dogs and weary owners are welcome in the garden area at the front of the station. The scone was genuinely freshly baked. There were 8 of us who had done a group dog walk along the disused railway line and back along the towpath. We will be back. After a lovely walk from Stourton along the Staffordshire Worcestershire canal finishing along the railway line we ended up at the Railway Cafe...it certainly added an incentive during the last few miles!Staff were very welcoming and despite being extremely busy on a Sunday lunch time, soon sorted out a table for us, and brought us the first of our coffees - which were excellent.A basic but sufficient menu with veggie options (a vegetarian breakfast would be a great addition) to suit walkers and cyclists who are predominantly the main customers. We had none of the issues with poor service which others had commented upon and our cooked food soon arrived. Our only regret was not having room for scones or cake after! The cafe is what it is, in an interesting building, but we certainly left satisfied and happy!

On the day I visited it was a pleasant winters day, and the place was very busy. The people there seemed to be a mix of walkers, cyclists and a few just enjoying a pleasant diversion. The welcome is really nice, it's a quirky place serving pleasant but fairly simple food. The coffee is just great. It's got that added old railway station going on with the platform seating looking out onto what would have been the tracks and is now a resource shared by lots of people with various outdoors requirements.

As the title says, the customer service here is... well, none-existent! My family and I arrived on a quiet afternoon (cafe less than half full), to be greeted by dirty uncleared tables all around. We chose one and waited for someone to come and say hello, or even make eye contact. For over twenty minutes. In the meantime, one member of staff came and cleared two tables near us, ignoring ours, and then after a while another came and cleared another. Ignoring us completely again! My wife asked, with a smile, whether it was table service. The teenage girl serving grunted 'er...yeah...' looking at us as if we'd asked if we were humans or aliens. I then asked if she could clear our table, pointing out that we'd been totally ignored. The girl said, with an incredible surliness, that "yeah, I'll come and do it". So at that point, we got up and left. Really sickening attitude. I can't comment on the food because we didn't eat - and we won't be either.

My problem is not with the food - which is OK - it's with the customer care: it stinks! I attempted to arrange a group visit and went to great efforts to make the experience as stress free as possible for all parties - staff and group members (ie paying customers). My efforts were met with negativity and antagonism. Staff made incorrect assumptions then proceeded to infer we intended using their "facilities" even if we weren't paying customers. My attempts to make someone's job a lot easier resulted in insult and disappointment. Never again!

This has been my third visit in recent months and the customer service is consistently terrible. The cafe closes at 3pm and if you order food after about 215 they moan that you have arrived late and then hurry you with your food. It makes for a stressful experience which is such a shame as the cafe is located in a nice spot in a former railway station. Their attitude is like they are doing you a favour.

Living no more than 100yards away, we visit this friendly cafe often and have never been disappointed. The full breakfast is great and excellent value, the cakes are delicious and fresh and of generous proportions! The coffee, tea etc always good and generous, with extra hot water on asking. There are several cafes in Wombourne, but we don't use this just because it's the closest, but because it's the best, the friendliest and with the greatest value for money.

The Cafe is a perfectly located drop in for a tasty treat for those using the disused railway, the Staffs Worcs canal, or myriad of paths in the beautiful surrounding countryside. There's a wide range of hot and cold foods, with inside and outside seating areas (depending on the weather of course), and a happy welcoming atmosphere, with plenty of car parking adjacent. The only problem sometimes is its popularity means that sometimes you have to bear with the friendly staff, but aren't the good things in life worth as little wait ? A real Gem.

Was a lovely sunny day and stopped off to grab a drink and slice of cake. Last time we visited we could sit out on railway platform overlooking the walk which obviously used to be where the track was. However when we got there it was busy and garden area was full with no seats available but the platform area was empty. No tables and chairs, just big open space that i felt had been wasted. Once a table in the garden had become free (about 5 min wait), order 2 teas and slice of toffee and carrot cake. Whilst a little on the pricey side for a slice of cake - it was beautiful - very tasty! Overall nice visit but def more chairs needed on busy weekends!

A sunny Saturday after a hard nights graft . We fancied a breakfast but too tired to cook . We rewarded ourselves via a nice walk to the railway cafe . The delightful enclosed gardens were thronged with like minded couples and families alike. The friendly hardworking down to earth staff compliment the food and the location of this old branch line station . Value for money too . Two breakfasts and drinks for less than 14 pounds bargain lots of other choices too . Don't be a sleeper steam on down here and be treated first class .

Have lived in Wombourne for 15 years but never visited this place. My sister was over and had promised to take her there for breakfast before I started cooking for the rest of the family on Father's Day. First impression was very good, lovely location, nice friendly staff, good selection on the menu.. I saw it as a hidden gem and hoped to return frequently. We ordered a small breakfast and a couple of pieces of toast, the drinks came out then waited and waited. The drinks were finished after 30 minutes and I was told that our order was next ( and hadn't started to be cooked yet). There was a table with around 8 people who had ordered just before us, but a cafe should be prepared for this surely? The girl did apologise and let us have our drinks on the house which was nice. I don't expect a Macdonalds type set up but the service needs to be much more efficient. So all in all, we had a nice walk but left the Railway cafe starving!

Recently stopped here with a group of friends, all mums with young toddlers and babies after a pleasant stroll along the railway line. When we arrived we asked if it was ok for our children to eat packed lunches if we were getting drinks and some of us ordering food as well. We were told by the waitress, after checking with her manager that this was ok but only as a one off. Sensing her displeasure we asked to buy take out drinks but she assured us that we were OK to stay. However, we were repeatedly made to feel unwelcome by her subsequent comments and even when handing over our cash we were rudely told that there were picnic benches nearby for next time. Disappointed to be treated this way especially when we asked at start and wouldn't have stayed if it was going to be a problem; to say that she kept hammering the point was an understatement. None of us will be returning here again.

Stopped off for a drink and a snack during a walk with my wife and son. I ordered tea and toast which was lovely. My wife wife ordered a latte and a tea cake and my son ordered a latte. Not sure how they make their latte's, both my wife and son described them as tasteless. After trying them I agreed. A good stir improved them, but for what they cost I would expect better. It is expensive for a cafe, which I don't mind paying if you get the quality and service to go with it. On this occasion we didn't get the quality.

We always pop into the Station for our combined walks and light lunches. The food is always excellent and offers a traditional range but with a high quality twist. They upgrade everything to better ingredients, even the Cheese & Tomato on Toast comes on luscious THICK sliced Granary Bread, 2 slices (or thick White), generous amounts of sliced tomato to top it off. Go for a LARGE bowl of soup and that'll keep you going all day. All the staff are welcoming and you food is always prepared fresh and served quickly. We'll keep going back until we've tried everything on the menu. Then start on our favourites again. A popular place even in the depths of a a wet December :-) Keep it up girls! My wife and I booked afternoon tea for 28 people in celebration of a special anniversary. The staff were all extremely helpful from the time of us making our initial enquiry to the end of the day of our event. They then emailed to check with me that all had been satisfactory. It was more than satisfactory it was a truly delightful experience with attentive staff and a very, very good afternoon tea. This contained an inventive selection of sandwiches and cakes together with scones served with jam and cream. Tea and coffee were served throughout including some ‘speciality’ teas. We had a cash bar but were able to arrange a drink each for our guests on arrival and delicious sparkling wine for a couple of toasts. Several of our guests made good use of the shop to buy a bottle or two of the wine that they had enjoyed during the afternoon. This was a very good experience well done Halfpenny Green. Will we return, most certainly we will to partake in both the great food in the restaurant and buy wine and other goodies from the deli and shop. Everything was extremely satisfactory and the staff were all excellent.
