Pear and Partridge in South Staffordshire

Sadly the Pear and Partridge that was our regular great value eatery has been taken over by a pub chain. The prices have increased by 40% and a fifty minute wait for the cold and poor quality food hasn't encouraged us to make a return visit.

Visited last week Tuesday with kids after school couldn't have food as grill was broken. Not at all good as kids were looking forward to having thier tea. Visited today and the food is 1 hour wait as they only have 1 member of staff cooking. Absolutely ridiculous to say. Why advertise re opening and entice customer in with offers on bill boards if you don't have the stock or machinery working upto spec.

Just been to the pear & partridge in perton .totally horrible. Brought a beef dinner had to ask for roast potatoes and put me 3 on and they wer like chips no potato wats so eva service unprofessional. And too expensive for wat we had .will not go there again. 😡

Me and my family came for a meal for my dad's birthday,the food was lovely and would definitely come back again.

Sorry but the food is no better than what I can provide at home with my microwave!! In fact better - hotter and plentiful! This place is ok if you want a pint and a sports screen!! If you want quality food which is worth the prices that are being charged then stay away!! Could be a goldmine in the right hands with the right knowledge of the surroundings - but no! Another wasted opportunity.

Today my mom and 2 family members visited you this afternoon was very impressed with new look as they have been dining with you for years but today they were appalled by the food and the 30 minutes wait and it was not that busy so no excuse there my mom had the pie which she's still looking for the filling only small amount of mash and rubbery brocoli my uncle had a very tough steak still could not cut it with a steak knife and third meal a jacket potato which was cold so you could not produce a decent meal out of three so you will not be getting our custom again 😥

So we decided to visit the pear and partridge after refurbishment on Wednesday 30th April. Pub looks absolutely amazing however from there it went down hill. After 4 visits to the bar to order food Due to the LACK OF FOOD AVALIABLE finally got to order the 2 staff behind the bar were taking all the flack management nowhere to be seen. People waking out in disgusting. Now seriously prices have been put up which you expect. Even a simple thing ike bread & butter not on the menu. Seriously is it not common sense you would have enough food in stock and enough staff on when reopening. Seriously poor management won't be visiting again anytime soon Really not a very good first impression. 😐🙄 come on it's not rocket science honestly 😒.

Waited 2 has for main meal and the waitress said it was our fault because we ordered starters, owner did offer us a free drink but as we were driving we declined this offer

For years now Perton has been served by 2 decidedly ‘below average’ pubs. The Wrottesley Arms is now in need of a really serious refurbishment. So it was with great expectations that we saw that the Pear and Partridge had closed for a total makeover and we hoped that at last we were going to get a more upmarket pub close by. So when we called in today it was with great anticipation but unfortunately that was soon dashed when we walked through the door. It was a case of ‘same old, same old’. 5 televisions!!!! 3 of them showing last weekend’s Premier League games!!!! WHY? Another television was advertising what food and drinks were available and thankfully the 5th one was turned off. Nearly all the clientele were of a more mature nature so why would they want to watch football!!!! I can understand if there’s a big match on but a Wednesday lunchtime!!! Fortunately we didn’t eat there as the food that was coming out from the kitchen didn’t look very appetising. We felt so sorry for the table of 5 who were sat behind us, first 1 meal came out then about then about 4 minutes later another 2 meals then another 1 meal a few minutes after and then finally the last meal arrived which must have been 10 minutes after the 1st one arrived!!! Obviously there’s no organisation in the kitchen and the communication between the staff is very poor. Needless to say we won’t be returning.

We have been going to the Pear and Partridge for many years as it's our local pub and always enjoyed the food which was always great value too. The pub has recently been taken over by a pub chsin and after being closed for a month fir a total refurbishment we decided to give it a try. It looked fantastic inside with new decor but that's where the positive experience ended. The menu prices had increased by 40% but it didn't stop us ordering as we were sure it would be worth it. We were wrong. After a 45 minute wait the food arrived. I ordered mushroom and ale pie with mash and brocoli which was OK even though the inside didn't have much mushroom in it just mostly gravy but still hot and edible. My three companions didn't fare so well. Cold chips, cold peas, a fish which was mostly batter with very little of the white stuff inside, gammon which was tough as old boots and a slice of pineapple that looked like it had been trodden on it was black. The main course scampi consisted of nine pieces of fish a child's portion of chips and a spoonful of mushy peas. This dish was priced at £12.50 (photo attached) I spoke to the manager who was most apologetic and admitted they had 'teething problems'. As a gesture of goodwill she refunded our money. We'll give the pub another try in a couple of months to see if things have improved. I hope they do 😊

The pear has been decorated to a good standard a vast improvement. The food prices have unfortunately shot up. You could get 2 mains for £11.99 previously now the same meals are roughly £10 to £12 each. The music was quite loud and there are still quite a few tv's showing sport, which would of been better kept over by the pool table. At the end of the day it's a local pub not a sports bar. All said it's still an great improvement .

Having worked in hospitality previously I’m rather shocked to have waited just over 30 minutes for a quite small bowl of chips that only take a few minutes in the fryer! Beautiful refurbishment but there doesn’t seem any sort of urgency with getting people served and food out. Would definitely be back for drinks but not food. Not worth the wait unfortunately.

Wow this place is busy and i can see why, its lovely inside you can see alot of money has been spent, the new owners gary and Kirsty are really nice and although both working just as hard as the staff they still had time to chat inbetween cleaning tables and serving food and the entertainment on Friday was amazing we cant wait to see Gary sing again whos apparently a friend of the owners. Now as its so busy the food did take and hour to come out but in all fairness we were told it would be an hour and it was the pubs new and super busy and popular, it was piping hot and 110% perfect, the port belly was really good. Whilst we were at the bar we did hear many people complaining and being unreasonable that they were waiting for food but lets be reasonable we were told it would be an hour and our was some people are just expecting KFC speed for quality food, i think someone people just want or are used to getting freebies like in the days of lisa and taylor.

Just ate here after its opening -- sorry guys pub is beautiful nice atmosphere, staff lovley , but just ordered 3 meals in a none busy pub , too over 1 hour for it to come , when it did it was poor microwave food , chips were unedable -daughters chilli, had a skin on it , and lasagne had a long hair in it , this could come off my daughter ? - but seemed it was in the food -- not one girl complaining but already took drink back because it was flat , we left food and left -- to make this lovley pub work please find a good chef as this was terrible --- sorry all just a bit of helpful advice I hope

There are some good points to this review. The refurb is lovely, it feels bigger, lighter and fresher. The bar staff as busy as it was, were friendly and helpful However the negatives are: £12 for a burger meal for the portion size is too small. It felt like I was eating a childs portion. My nieces meal came out wrong and by time it was rectified we had all finished our meals. The men's toilets are still leaking which is an issue that existed prior to the refurb The management were rude to my friend for something he hadn't done, they half heartedly apologised. We understand it's busy but no need to project that onto longstanding loyal customers of the pear.

Have to put 1 star in order to post but that is being extremely generous... Went on day 2 after refurbishment, terrible service, disgusting meal, manager running around like chicken with head cut off, pushing staff out of way instead of explaining and showing. Wrong order, food slimy and lukewarm, dirty cutlery. Definitely not going back.

Waited 40 mins for 4 meals X2 mixed Grills X1 steak X1 scampi When the meals came gammon, bacon & pineapple was missing off mixed grills, none of the steaks were cooked how we requested. Scampi meal came with 10 chips & 7 pieces of scampi. After complaining we all had to eat at separate times. Terrible service terrible food

We waited for the opening, hoping it would be a friendly, cosy pub just by the corner. However, I have to say that the food was not nice. Jacket potato tasted like it was from yesterday (cold and not pleasant), nachos with pork weren't bad but again cold and no guacamole inside, pizza was average. We weren't given cutlery or tissues and witness to be given cutlery for someone else with bare hands (not in a basket or tissues). I am sorry to say that the service was not good. Some of our orders were missing, and we had to ask for them. Although the pub looks stunning, the food and service are not great. Such a shame. For now just a good place for few beers.

Extensive and unusual menu - great to try something different for a change. All the food was piping hot, and cooked well - the steak was medium rare as ordered. The dessert choice is fabulous - the eton mess sundae was amazing, lovely combination of sweet and tart flavours. The pub is newly decorated and looks lovely - great combination of indoor and outdoor spaces, plus plenty of car parking. Good access for wheelchair users, and plenty of room around all the tables. The games area with pool table is a lovely addition, yet another reason to stop in but stay longer! Multiple TV screens showing sports and news, plus an outdoor TV on the decking area. Some of the staff were new and learning the ropes, but all were friendly, efficient and happy to help. The background music was brilliant - something a bit different which was definitely to my taste. Highly recommended - well worth a visit.

Good choice on menu at very reasonable prices. Service and food was very good. There is a nice warm inviting atmosphere in the pub which is also dog friendly. Would highly recommend.

Have been a regular for 10 years. Last two meals have been exceptional, with a special mention to Tyler. Only reason for non 5 star has been the shocking ales and way they were kept last 8 months.

Comida encantadora, buena relación calidad-precio y personal muy agradable y amable y servicial. Recomiendo encarecidamente este pub, venimos al menos una vez a la semana. Especialmente el miércoles, cuando se puede obtener una hermosa hamburguesa de ternera, pollo o vegana con papas fritas, aros de cebolla más 3 lados si su elección por £ 5 y se puede duplicar cualquier hamburguesa por £ 1.

Wednesday 18th December excellent midday Christmas lunch at short notice. Food very tasty and attractively presented. Staff were accommodating and courteous - went out of their way to give provide very nice experience. Many thanks.

Nice menu that contains varied dishes at reasonable cost. Wheelchair access is good with entrance all on one level. Friendly staff and booking not essential but best if larger group. Toilets are spotless too. update:- Today we sampled the festive menu and arrived to a neatly laid table with crackers. Food was spot on again and everyone enjoyed their food. The Service was excellent by a very helpful and polite staff. thank you.

We called in for lunch on Monday 11 November there were 10 of people in our group all ordered food separately, I ordered an all day breakfast was told it would be half an hour. Every one else was served there food over the next twenty minutes except mine. I gave them a few minutes then went to ask what was happening to my order, they had completely forgotten about it , every one else had almost finished there meals, So Not wanting to eat on my own I had no other choice but to cancel the order .VERY poor service from the kitchen Average pub Average beer Food ?

Went in for a meal, changed mind when we saw the tables were filthy

Three of us went in for dinner today we had the shares mega compo for starters and for main meals two all day breakfasts and katsu chicken with chips rice and curry sauce all food was hot and tasty we all finished our meals and really enjoyed them the lady who served us was very friendly and helpful will be going again good value for money.

This is our first visit here and I would definitely come back, staff are friendly and food is lovely and piping hot.

Ordered food via the app, took ages to come out! Multiple people ordered at the bar after our order was placed and their food came out long before ours, even had to check with bar staff multiple times that they had our order. The portions were also very very small, had about 10 chips on each meal we ordered.

Please don't go there as you'll probably spoil it and it won't then be as nice as it is now

Had a bad experience a long time ago but visited with the family for a meal yesterday tea time, and it was excellent. The food was tasty, price was low considering, staff were friendly and we were served hot food fairly quickly. Enjoyed it , thanks

Came here for Sunday Lunch today and was not disappointed. The staff were run off their feet as the place was so busy but always provided service with a smile. They had run out of Sunday roasts which was no surprise given how busy they were so we ordered alternatives which was not a problem. All in all a lovely little local pub which we won’t hesitate to visit again.

Went to order food had no Sunday roast only 2 hours after opening, tried to order sausage and mash to be told they don’t sell this anymore, also had no fish, what a joke. My brother in law went in a couple of months ago to be faced with the same nothing that he wanted on the menu available, he was told to finish his drinks and not come back he was barred, the place needs a good clean too!

Just had a fantastic meal at the Pear and Partridge. Service was quick and welcoming. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. We are actually going back later for an evenings entertainment with a live band.

Came to watch the England game with my family. Atmosphere was amazing. Staff worked very happy and customers we happy all night. Good was lovely too. Very family friendly restaurant

Good food as normal. Really slow to get served at the bar (the bar staff are clearly trained to watch the owners pint and ensure he gets served before customers when he runs out) and then the owner pushes infront of customers and then proceeds to get his mate served clearly knowing others were waiting. If his pint is more important than my custom then I will take it elsewhere. I will update review on next visit.

Meal was just warm, place was scruffy, dirty ripped seats, dogs fighting. Should not have stayed but need loo, and food due to a long journey. Won't be going back.

Booked a table for 7 people for Thursday chick& mix deal was amazing food quality was excellent. Never been to the pub before but will definitely be going back. Kids was really happy. And entertained there was a kids table with books and colouring on also a kids toy machine. Music was a good choice and mix of different years. Staff was really helpful and friendly. Pub was busy and was served and noticed quickly. May I say 6 pound deal on Thursday is a big must!!

We have been here before and enjoyed it so decided to come back, I really wish we hadn’t!! Hubby booked us a table for 1.30pm for Sunday lunch. When we arrived we were told that as it was only the two of us we hadn’t got a table reserved but could sit anywhere that wasn’t already reserved 🤨 Sat down and had a drink then ordered… Whilst we were waiting the waitress told us that our table was booked for 4pm so we’d need to be out by then. Then she re-visited the table to tell us that there was no mashed potato, we were fine with that 🙂 Almost an hour passed by so I asked where our dinner was and the chef was asked to plate up ASAP. Our beef dinner came out, only it was turkey 😬 By now hubby was getting angry 😠 But managed to gulp a few bites in as I was so hungry, but hubby didn’t like his as the food wasn’t all that good quality 🙃 We walked out. Hubby’s plate with a bite of turkey taken and mine with a little bit more eaten as I was hungry 🥺 How it took an hour to serve that 💩 is beyond me, frozen veg, weird roasties and gravy like water! 🥊 We will not be returning and would suggest that others avoid too! Just on our way to KFC now 🍗

Burger night advertised…no burgers!! No ice. No ice buckets. No interest!! This pub has been going down hill for years.

It's ok pub but was surprised to see how many seats were ripped and torn.

Lovely pub, ordered the small plates, food was served quickly and was tasty and as advertised.

Absolutely love it here at the pear & partridge. The team here are so welcoming, always look after us as we come in 2 or 3 times a week. The sunday roasts are magnificent and the senior deal on a monday to friday is a massive hit with us too. Thank you for your consistency and looking after us everytime we come.

Go here often with our grandparents. They love it here and so do we. Great atmosphere pet friendly nice staff, always some sports on the tv. Foods always good . And they do good deals for the older folk with their senior menu . Roast dinners not to shabby ether good size portions. Ideal for family dinners.

Lovely pub all the staff are very pleasant and hard working. Both Lisa's, Kyra and Angel made our night a very pleasant evening. We came 2 nights on the trot and food was excellent both nights and very reasonable priced. And will definitely be back. We'll done to all staff

Overcooked and very dry lasagne. It also had a spice taste like pepper. Very disappointing

A regular spot for the wife and I to have a midday meal, so we booked tables for 15 family members for our 60th Wedding anniversary. Arrived 7pm and food served within 30 minutes freshly cooked and piping hot. We couldn't have asked for better service. If you are hungry I can highly recommend their fish chip platter.

Matt was an absolute gentleman the entire time, our meal was absolutely fantastic and I couldn't have asked for more! Thank you for a fantastic night.

Decided to come on the 14/02/24 (today) ordered at 12:43 and had to wait an hour for a chicken burger. Went up twice to ask them where it is but they said it was 5-10 mins away. However come 20 mins late it turned up. Asked for a refund but they told my girlfriend the food was coming! I don’t expect to wait a hour for a burger. Stupid. Will stick with my mccrispy from McDonald’s next time.

Waited over an hour for food and when it came out the fries were stone cold! Went up to the bar twice to ask where the food was and they said it would be ten minutes, ten minutes later still waiting for food so went up again and asked for a refund, and was refused as the food was coming out of the kitchen, won’t be coming back until they fix the problem

Brilliant location and very competitive prices for the food and a good selection to choose from.

The food was really nice but the service was shocking, we waiting 40 minutes for a Sunday carvery. Wasn't happy that I had to go up and ask where our food was and it wasn't even that busy

Wonderful Festive meal today for 3 of us. Food was hot and well cooked and the service was first class. Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Hit and miss with the steak. Some times they don't have it and some times over cooked. And others it's perfect I recommend going dinner time then on the evening

Clean pleasant atmosphere served came quiet quickly . Good food .Take blue light cards had 20 % off.

Pleasant pub. Friendly, obliging service. Tables nice & clean as was front of house appearance. Only disappointment was the fact there were no chicken strips available, which seem to feature in a few of the dishes on the menu, which some of our party chose. However an effort was made to substitute these with similar foodstuffs. Waiting time for food was reasonable & it arrived hot. Will happily return in future.

Good food and service worth a visit.

Little disappointed on wait times, and overall quality of food. There has been a few issues I've experienced recently, mainly wait times on food and it's not even busy periods. I'm aware that staffing is a issue and the process of recruiting kitchen manager and staff is underway. I hope on my next visit thing will be much better than today, and will reflect on my review.

Sitting here watching the Rugby... Ireland v Scotland and I've consumed 4 pints, a mixture of 2 x pints of Coors...1 x pint of Carlsberg, and a pint of Madri...I've tried 3 x different types of lager because each glass of whatever I was consuming went flat within a few minutes of purchase. Don't think I'll be watching any future events at this particular pub.

We had a great Saturday night, the food was excellent, drinks were plentiful and all very reasonably priced. Topped off by a great performance from The Lemuns, playing for almost 3 hours . All within easy walking distance,what's not to like!

I put this place down as 3 stars. Meaning it was ok my reveiw was based on an unbiased reveiw from a wide range of angles. The reason I put ok was because it's a nice place. But it came across to us as a local drinking establishment. That's not a bad thing. As I say we liked it. And I think it's a great place for meeting mates and having a good session. And I would highly reccomend it for that. Ergo I would go there again. However in this day and age most pubs aim more firmly at the food market. So would I choose here to go for a meal with the kids. Probably not given options. However I would also not go if invited with the family. Its difficult. The staff are lovely and it's clean. And it's nice to see a pub used as the more traditional usage. It's not a bad thing. It is well worth a visit it's a nice place. And I would say a good place to start a night before off into town.

Staff very friendly, prices very competitive, deals for seniors Mon - Fri up til 5pm & two classic meals for £10.99 (all day every day) with amazing choices. Can highly recommend a visit. Me and my husband had Hunters Chicken, absolutely delicious.

Please read all sections of this review: Part of the Greene King chain of pubs. Ample parking, the tables well spaced, staff very helpful and attentive. Standard pub type food. My Steak and Kidney pie was a little dry inside. A pot of gravy was supplied with meal. My friend's Chicken and Mushroom pie was moist inside but the pastry was a bit hard. Prices not too bad for what you get. See pictures, onion rings were a extra. Update: Went for Sunday lunch Easter, staff were helpful, Sunday roast was perfect. They had put on an Egg hunt for the children and presented them each with a larger chocolate egg after our meal, nice touch. Update: See pictures of Christmas Turkey lunch and sweets, Apple crumble with custard and Chocolate Fudge cake with ice cream, everything cooked and presented perfectly and friendly staff. . Update 09/23 Went for Sunday Roast, the place hasn't changed, friendly, welcoming and fantastic food. I think one of the things that make this place what it is, is the Staff, so helpful and friendly. Shame I Can't increase my original 5 stars to 6. It's a chain pub but there is something that makes it stand out to the others.
