The Fox in South Ayrshire

The quality of the food is super inconsistent. Sometimes great and sometimes poor and everything's always changing. Desserts especially are bad. Tablet sundae had absolutely no tablet in it and Nutella waffles had cheap chocolate sauce nothing like Nutella.

Just had the loveliest birthday meal here with my partner. The staff were so kind and I was lucky enough to have them sing happy birthday for me! Food was 10/10 and the cocktails were gorgeous!

Great place and dog friendly. The caramelised sugar coated donuts are basically death by donuts, bloody lovely.

5 of us and a dog popped in for drinks early Saturday evening. Our order arrived (they brought the wrong lager) but to be fair, acknowledged their error and offered us the next round free. Can’t fault the service. Drinks were good, lively atmosphere. Great pint of Tennant’s unfiltered too. Didn’t eat here but the food looked good. Would recommend.

In the age of increasing restaurant prices, well done to the fox for offering a £6.50 menu. I had the Thai chicken curry - delicious and good portion size. That with a glass of the house red it was £10. Just shows what can be achieved when chef and restaurant put their heads together.

We went to the fox last week and served by a fabulous waitress. The place was buzzing and we were well taken care of Asked advice on what to get on the menu and she took the time out to engage with us. We will be back

Had a Sunday late afternoon meal in the fox, fish tacos was delicious, husband had tempura and both were hot, fresh and tasty. Dessert was doughnuts and brownie, both the portions were huge and amazing, very friendly happy staff. Will definitely be back

Great pub. Four of them the cheapest and yet best beer in a week. Here are the locals which is a clear statement.

Service was outstanding - attentive without being pushy and nothing was a bother. Couldn't believe the prices and portion sizes - u won't find anywhere better in terms of value for money. Lovely atmosphere. can't think of a single negative. Will definitely be back

This was a great find as from the outside does not look like anything special. Good, bustling atmosphere with great coverage of the golf and presumably other sporting events. We were offered a table immediately on arrival. The restaurant and bar staff were polite, attentive and very professional. Our visit was tainted by the rude arrogant manager who should follow the example of his waiting team. The food service was prompt and of a good standard, my only comment would be there were very little healthy options.

Brilliant nite in the fox , we were up for the golf and just happened to come across this pub , the girls serving were fantastic, very helpful friendly and polite they couldn’t do enough for us , the bar manager ‘a tall lad ‘ was running around everywhere as it was so busy , he had everything organised and was really trying to accommodate everybody , he was very good at his job , we will definitely come back here 👍

Visited the Fox with a friend last week for a meal which was very good. Decided to take family visiting Troon for the Open Golf, for a meal on Wednesday this week but it was closed for a private function for the Open Golf. Sky sports had taken over, so no local customers were allowed. However, went back today., Thursday. Same dish (basket of chicken) was £2 more expensive this week and definitely wasn’t as nice as last week. Even the presentation was poor. One of our group had pancakes and bacon. 3 small pancakes, 2 pieces of undercooked bacon, small pot of cream and small pot of syrup, £10! Should have stuck to our usual cafe across the road. Shame on you Buzzworks increasing your prices for the Golf. Just puts your local customers off visiting, when all the fuss of the Open is over.

We popped in here for the first time recently for brunch. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful, the food was great and the portions were a good size. Our dogs were treated well too, so we will definitely will be back soon!

Went for lunch after a walk along the beach today. I have been a couple of times before for a few drinks, but this was the first time having food. It is nicely decorated, and for those with dogs, they have a section to sit in. Really nice staff and place was pretty busy for a Monday afternoon. I ordered the chicken burger and had beer cheese sauce added to it. I have to say the cheese was one of best I have had in the UK. My wife had tempura, which she also really enjoyed. The drink prices were very reasonable, as was the food. Would 100% recommend for anyone wanting to grab something to eat in Troon.

Popped in on a family holiday. Weather rained off the beach so fancied a nice bite to eat near the coast. Came across this little gem. Fantastic, good value menu and the best pint of Tennant's I've had. Great experience enjoyed by the family.

A great atmosphere, always busy and staff are always eager to help. Great venue to watch sport on their numerous screens at the back. Regular events to attract a variety of customers: Boozy Bingo; Live Music; Quiz (Themed) nights; Open Mic Nights.

Last minute overnight to Troon and we were looking for places to eat with our dog. I called and spoke to Frazer who could not have been friendlier on the phone and said we would all be very welcome. When we arrived we were greeted with big smiles and big claps for our pup Big Mac. We were made to feel very welcome. Frazer and Meghan were their servers and despite being really busy were happy to answer all of our questions and to have a laugh and chat with us. We will be rushing back as the food was great but the service was even better. Thanks guys!! Xxx

The Fox is part of the Buzzwork chain of restaurants. If you know that brand you know it deservedly gets great plaudits from patrons. Today however our food took a while to reach us. Staff seemed under pressure. After waiting a wee bit longer than I felt was necessary my starter arrived, but sadly it wasn't what the dish I ordered. Still enjoyed my visit, hasn't put me.off going back. I know Buzzworks get it right far more than they get it wrong. But in restaurants small stuff can really matter.

Great, great good, great value for money. Dark haired waitress extremely helpful and friendly. Huge portions (we had already eaten half this is leftovers!)

What can i say - a great place that had everything we wished for the night. After a long journey up to Troon, it was 7pm on Thursday night, in need of food and drink. Table service and the staff were great, and live music too, there were 3 or 4 different musicians that evening and good choices of music. Food, we all had a selection between nachos, wings and burgers with several beers. All in all a great night, a wonderful place.

Was more annoyed that people who came in after us were served food & drinks first,,& no table was booked,,,waited about 1hr for food to arrive & it was cold,,did say to waiter about this & he would let kitchen know,,,thats the second time we have been & wont be back,,plenty of other choices in Ayrshire to go to

Popped in when passing with 3 small dogs yesterday. Ordered Thai chicken and Salt n Chilli fries both of which were excellent. Great dog friendly place with good music and better tank Tennants on draft. Staff were really friendly and can imagine would be a busy spot at the weekend. Highly recommended 👌🏻.

Been here twice, the first time everything was fantastic, food great and full of flavour. We had burgers and the salt and chilli fries and onion rings and we couldn't fault anything. However we went again today and ordered salt and chilli chicken wings, salt and chilli fries and onion rings to share between us and everything was flavourless. The wings had lots of meat on them which was great but they didn't seem to be marinated in any seasoning, the meat was juicy but bland and the coating was very hard and crunchy and there was no salt and chilli taste off of them although they did come with some veg so we know they were meant to be salt and chilli. We had a similar issue with the fries where again they came with veg but were very oily and again had no salt and chilli flavourings like we had previously experianced, they tasted like plain fries with oily fried onions and fried peppers. We had to ask for salt to season our food in hopes of making it less bland but we were not able to finish the meal even though we were hungry enough. Its a shame considering the staff are lovely and welcoming, the atmosphere is great and we love that it is dog friendly. Just feel let down by the consistency of the food and that is important as eating out is definitely a treat for us.

A fab wee find in Troon. Lovely decor, banging music and the food was presented well and tasty, Prices are the same as everywhere else just now and the staff were friendly. They offer a 2 for 2 on mains on a Thursday.

Me and my dad have been talking about visiting the fox for weeks so we decided to go yesterday afternoon for some coffee. They were clearly busy so we were just going to say are we better coming back later because I myself am a pub manager so i totally understand when you are getting overwhelmed and don’t have any time for any more customers, however I would never make it obvious to the customers. One lady told us to sit down at the first table we seen and we would get seen to in about half an hour, we said this is fine as my dad can’t stand for too long so we said we started making our way over to a table when the manager looking lady shouted us saying we don’t have any tables. I looked confused and said the other woman just told us to sit down. I questioned this i said we were told we would be seen to in half an hour i do not mind waiting as i say i sympathise and do this job myself so i was more than happy sitting at a dirty table and to wait until anything became available we just wanted to sit down really. The woman looked absolutely flustered and just looked at us as if we were the biggest inconvenience and said ‘ive got no tables” no apology no sorry about the confusion basically just get out was the jist of what she was saying. which was strange as there was 2 being cleared and these were the ones the other lady told us to sit at. Was just an absolute shambles and whoever was running that shift clearly needs manager training and taught how to speak to people especially when flustered there is no need ti make the customers feel they are at fault. We ended up walking out feeling a bit disappointed. On my one day off from the same job i decided to go out and try enjoy the other side of hospitality but was instead left feeling like an inconvenience.

Just in for drinks but nice relaxed atmosphere. Staff really friendly, will be back

Great to visit another buzzworks place, our wee dog loved it too as he's allowed in. Food was excellent as you would expect and not expensive 😋. Its good to be inside with the dog and enjoy warm food. Place could be doing with more staff at busy times. Will definitely be back real soon.

Lovely place ...Nice staff..food average....won't be back due to prices of drinks...I large wine 8.55 I small draft cola nearly £3....that's what let's it down...no drinks list

We’ve been twice. Good food. Staff could be more attentive. Waiting 15 minutes for drinks, and 45 minutes for the bill kind of sucked, but it was probably just our experience.

It’s like the TARDIS: bigger and friendlier on the inside. 😉

The Fox in Troon, South Ayrshire has to be visited even just once. Exceptionally friendly staff, great food, clean. From the outside looks like a small cafe or cozy little hidey hole. When actually it has live sports, karaoke and live music. The bar stretches all the way back. The Fox in Troon is, like I said, has to be seen to be believed.

Wonderfully,ambient atmosphere in this very comfortable lounge bar/ restaurant. Very colourful place with good stage area for the regular live music which takes place with the amazing Carl Esprit Bridgeman performing on Thursday nights. Food was of excellent quality and flavour . My only complaint was the size of the portion of the supposedly large Chicken Tempura at a whacking £11 which my friend and i had hoped to share. was way short of being large, we had to augment with a further small portion.Dirty Fries were excellent, a hill of french fries and green peppers smothered in Cheese sauce. Very tasty. There are many other tempting choices on the menu.Service and staff were excellent.Two minutes walk from seafront,The Fox is definitely worth a visit. 25/11/23 Quick pre gig visit for coffee and cake. Venue very busy and nicely decorated for Xmas build up.😏

Visited with a group of friends and had a lovely lunch. Lee was excellent and ensured we had everything we needed. We will definitely be back.

Tasteless tacos, Thai chicken would have been delicious IF the chicken had not been overcooked, dry & tough & served on a stone cold plate! Lovely staff but service apalling!

Best pub in Troon by a street mile very professionally run excellent staff also they treat their customers with respect and some other local pubs who base their judgements on tickle tattle gossip banning individuals could learn so much from this bar which is a massive positive in how it is run.

Came here yesterday for some lunch with my Mum & Dad. It’s amazing inside, decor is really nice. Staff are lovely. I ordered the bubble fish & chips, it’s 10/10😍

From the front this restaurant could easily be walked on by but if you stop and venture in side you will find a refreshingly contemporary/hip venue with welcoming service. We came across this by chance looking for a dog friendly lunch stop. The front of the restaurant allows dogs. A lovely all day menu, I would recommend the chicken tempura and the loaded fries with cheese and bacon.

Popped into the Fox yesterday 12th July 2023 with my brother who is visiting Troon from Sydney Australia. Atmosphere was great as were the friendly staff. Highly recommended

We had a nice night with a friend who lives locally and had recommended the Fox. The food was very nice - fish tacos and chicken green curry. We had a few drinks and watched some football. I was a nice place and the staff were friendly. I would go back again.

Food was really good, fish bun was something wouldn't normally order but it was a really good choice. Wings were good accompanying sauce was excellent. Wife had Ruben style sandwich which she enjoyed and the beer and bacon fried were a treat. Cider was cold although koppaberg tap was off the bottle is a good substitute. Staff were friendly and sttentive without being intrusive. Overall a decent lunch. Would come back for the quiz or live music however we live too far away which is a shame.

Slow service, only 2 members of staff on, 1 on the floor and the other well not sure what he was doing but not hellish much. Waited 45 minutes for some poor chicken wings. After another 45 minutes for our mains we left. Won't be back until something is done about the staffing and also the attitude of staff.

I am surprised how nice this was. The staff is great. Food is delicious 😋 and the atmosphere is amazing. The interior is lovely designed with light boxes giving natural light and overall it's just great. Would definitely come again.

First visit to Troon and wasn't disappointed . This was a great pub. Plenty of atmosphere and a.nice pint of 'tank Tennants' . Only stayed for drink but food looked decent. Another addition to the local Buzzworks group so good quality throughout..

Great wee pub for drink and food is incredible also wouldnybthink from.outside this place was like this. Also has a golf simulator and about 20 tvs and a projector for live sports. I'd give it a bash if considering

Popped in today for lunch and left after the starter . No one came to take our order after 25 min of waiting , so i had to walk off to find someone. After another 20 min the starter arrived and after another 25 min wait the main course hadn't been served . The table wasn't even cleared in preparation for the main course. I understand its a bank holiday and they might be short of staff , but we didn't even get an apology when we asked for the bill for what we ate and mentioned the food that was ordered and wasn't served.

Went in here last night with friends for a drink, to my absolute delight and the girls disappointment while on route to empty the tank for more alcoholic beverages I spotted what can only be described as a gift from god, a private room with a golf simulator in it, all my dreams had been realized. At this point a cunning plan was set in motion to convince the women I had just rented a private room for us to enjoy the live entertainment. Ultimately the plan was a success and we made our way into "the den". However upon entering the room our deception was uncovered. Game on! We played for and hour and some change and drank cocktails galore which were delicious. The manager was an absolute gent and kept us hydrated in regular intervals with a table service. But it was not enough to stop me from claiming the high score of 288 yard on the long drive competition. Get it up ye. When we asked for the bill I couldn't believe how reasonable it was and they manager hadn't charged us for the time we ran over in the den . All in the place was a great stop on our night out , will definitely be back to keep topping up the high score for the room . Thanks again for a great service guys

Friendly, knowledgeable staff with a great atmosphere

Popped in early Sunday afternoon for a spot of lunch and a pint. The soup was excellent and the server recommended it to us, spot on (chicken and pepper) an accompanying chicken and bacon sandwich was enough to see me through till dinner time. Crackin pint of Tennents Tank Lager to wash lunch down and take in the footie being shown on multiple large screens. We will return.

Another excellent Buzzworks venue. Very relaxed pubby atmosphere. Very nice bar food style. Friendly staff my 5th visit now food good every time reasonable prices too. Just drop in!

Visited here on 11th Feb for lunch, portion size is a disgrace; ordered fish in brioche bun. Macaroni cheese was no better than cheesy pasta out a packet. Rip off Britain eat your heart out!!

My husband and I visited the Fox for the first time on Saturday 21/01/2023 because we couldn’t get into the Lido. Our mistake as I forgot to book. We ordered Nachos with Pulled Pork, Fish & Chips & a portion of Dirty Fries. The Fish was okay but served with half cooked Frozen Chips. We sent back the Nachos as they were disgusting. Frozen Guacamole, Orange Squirty Cheese, A handful of Nachos, 3 tiny pieces of Pork snd no Sour Cream. The Dirty Fries (Frozen Chips)had the disgusting Orange Squirty Cheese on them as well. We were surprised as we use Buzzworks regularly and this is the first time that we have ever experienced this. Saddened to say we won’t return. Phyllis Dunlop.

Nice vibe..busy but attentive staff. Recommend the Korean bbq cauliflower wings and the bubble fish and chips. Definitely worth a visit.

My husband have a pulled pork beef burger with chip and I have the double beef burger with chips. The two burgers were both delicious. We love the chill atmosphere in the bar/restaurant. The staff were very attentive. We would highly recommend this place.

The cocktails were great, both alcoholic ones and non-alcoholic ones. Managed to get a booth, was comfy. The staff were great, all table service and were very attentive getting us more drinks. There was a band playing who were good, not too noisy either so you could comfortably speak.

Went for lunch and love, love, loved it, great welcoming service, dog friendly (I didn't have a dog with me but there were a couple in) and the Thai Chicken was just magic , a welcome addition to another one of the local Buzzworks restaurants and bars , I'll be back for more 👍

I really enjoyed The Fox last week. There was a good vibe with groups out watching the World Cup mixing with folk just out for a good time. The Fox attracts a mixed range of age groups, with young and older. We were having birthday drinks and decided to stay and watch the live music, the lad was good and had plenty of interaction with the audience, sadly I didn't catch his name. I also had some food with a burger and dirty fries and they also serve Tennents tank lager. All very good. There's also a decent cocktail menu for when you've had too much lager. I'm told the Guinness is a good pint there too.

Just had the worst time in this place. Was watching the football and a number of old racist people demanded the F1, not that it has started. Staff were told not to turn the TV back to football. Apparently if you are of Asian/Indian background old white people pay for their tv services The football was on already and after spending money in this place the staff got told not to turn the tv over. The white people were just rude and pointing and laughing as we left the bar Staff under pressure should have managed the situation However now I’m leaving this review after having a conversation with the staff where they felt bullied and intimidated by the group of old racist folk Shame I liked the fox however being known now as a racist bar I will not be returning
