I visited mid morning. No staff on the floor to assist...Plants were very dissapointing. Most plants needed a good water so the whole place looked sad and there were no seedlings at all...I was also looking for a parsley plant and there were only 2 pathetic looking plants. (They should not even have been out, hardly a leaf and brown).. I took the one (I thought I might try to salvage it) thinking I might get it given to me or at the least a discount...the lady serving me said a flat No because "we just sell them like that"!... no smile no friendliness at all...at my total surprise at her response she went away for a few minutes and I think I got a £ off my purchases. The next day in Morrisons they had beautiful parsley plants. I should have waited. Not the feel good I was hoping to get... Sad as the rest of the place looked lovely and the tea room was busy.

Visited coffee shop today for lunch with my elderly mother. My father very recently passed away & I wanted my mother to go out to help her confidence as not been out for a while. Going to Hayes was a mistake. She wanted to order & asked for two chicken rice soups as starters & then asked for a filled panini. The staff member taking orders at 2.30pm today had no smile or any type of friendly expression & tore off a slip & handed it to my mother. I asked for a filled toastie. The staff member glared at my mother & wrote down the toastie in another sheet but did not hand this over then said is that all now & muttered something to the person standing next to her who then stared at my mother. The way she spoke was rude & dismissive. We were in middle of eating our soup when the toastie & panini arrived. We told person who brought it to table that we had asked for soups as starters & if attention had been paid at counter this would have been the case. We accepted the plates even though there was insufficient space on table for everything as I thought the staff unfortunately did not know any better. At no point were the empty soup bowls taken from our table to give us more space & we had to put them on windowsill. We were charged £36 for this horrible experience.

We have been visiting this garden centre for many years popping in for brunch on the road down to Prestwick or Ayr. Its always been pleasant although a tad expensive. We visited a few days ago and i noticed that the toilets had been refurbished. I went to the disabled one to check it as my husband is in a wheelchair. I thought it was suitable for him and said that to him. Unfortunately he said it was one of the worst disabled toilets he had been in. Baby changing area took up most of the space. When entering he had his back to the door and had to manouvre the chair to turn round to lock the door and had to repeat the process to come out. Why is the baby change area combined with a disabled toilet? They should be separate cubicles. It seems to be the case in most other establishments that baby needs take over from adult needs

I recently visited your café and was extremely disappointed with my experience. While eating my sandwich, I found a wirey pubic hair in it, which was both shocking and utterly disgusting. This incident not only ruined my meal but also made me question the hygiene standards of your establishment. I hope you take immediate action to address this serious issue to prevent it from happening again to other customers.

Had lunch here today. Seating was poor. The panin's have changed from the original to sesame seeded ones. Not nice at all. The tuna filling was far too much and pretty bland.Just loads of mayo through the tuna . Husband had the chicken filling with brie and cranberry. The chicken was tasteless. For what we paid I feel our meal was poor. Hays you need to pull your socks up. Far better places to eat at more competitive prices. Sadly won't be back

Just a horrible experience. We innocently confused two Hayes Garden Centre websites. The Kilmarnock one doesn’t take dogs. It really hates dogs. In fact if you stand outside with a dog, discussing how you made this mistake, first one, then a second, staff member will pop out to tell you they don’t take dogs, have never taken dogs, that it was YOUR mistake, and you shouldn’t have made the mistake, and (truly) that they hope you will not come back. Rest assured ladies, we won’t. Not ever, despite our love of spending money in garden centres.

We’ve been regular OAP customers for a long time and recently noticed a decline in the quality of the food. It’s not the cheapest of restaurants and it’s around £10 for a baked potato. The baked potatoes today were awful. Burnt, dried out and very small and actually nearly brown inside! We didn’t complain as what’s the point, they should never have been served up in the first place. Just wouldn’t go back. There’s plenty of other establishments in the area who take pride in what they serve up to customers and are not nearly as expensive and you don’t have to stand in a 20 min queue to get served.

OK so I was here today for brunch and a scone (big one cream and jam) and was going to wax lyrical about how fantastic everything was. I am out for brunch every day and no question this is the best... the only thing better is the laugh you get if you read the negative comments and the reply from the owner , absolutely hilarious. First the negative comments are 90% obviously from grumpy screwed up people but the replies are fantastic , almost as good as the food. Just for the record I totally agree with your policy on dogs , I no longer eat where the muts are allowed in its just disgusting. Please Please just keep doing what you do its very difficult to get the quality and standard you serve and unbelievably hard work. is it expensive ? no! Claridge's is expensive but to be fair they are both value. Thank you

Stopped here a couple of days ago for lunch and a browse on our way to Troon, where we were staying for our anniversary. Cracking wee find! Cafe was busy but the staff dealt with this easily. Food arrived quickly, soups were delicious (shame they'd run out of cheese scones though, as this would have made a nice change to bread). Cakes looked amazing - but we resisted! Great shop, and a large selection of plants at reasonable prices. And delighted to see our favourite section in a garden centre.....the "plant hospital" (i.e. reduced price plants for us to nurse back to good health!) All the staff we encountered were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. We'll definitely be back... and won't resist the cakes next time!

We are relatively frequent customers and find the overall experience mixed. The cafe itself is lovely and the food is invariably excellent. Some of the staff are charming; others lack warmth; and others still are borderline rude. We keep saying we are not going back, and then buckle after a few weeks. Recently I politely asked what a particular cake was, and the reply was a surly, “It’s written on the front.” It wasn’t, and even had it been, it wasn’t really an answer that smacked of customer service. Having gently tried to impress upon the server that the cake’s name wasn’t written on the glass, they again argued that it was (without offering to tell me anyway) - then realised that I was right, that the particular item had been missed off the glass cabinet (or perhaps put back in the wrong place), and grudgingly barked the name of the cake at me, as though I were some enormous inconvenience to them. I also have to say that, while I understand the motives behind the request not to take a table until served, at very busy times I am not entirely happy to spend the money and saddle myself with an awkward tray without knowing if we are going to get a table (not to mention that my spouse is disabled and not able to stand for as long as is sometimes necessary). We came very close to this very situation on a recent weekday lunchtime visit, and I should have been extremely annoyed to be left standing around, trying to keep a heavy tray up while our drinks got colder by the moment, until such times as a table became vacant. Picking up on something a few other reviewers have mentioned: I am unsurprised that the coffee loyalty card was discontinued. It was an extremely unfair system.

Hi, we visited your cafe today and the two white coffees we purchased were just warm and only just drinkable. We mentioned this to one of the staff who said they would pass it on to the person in charge, she also mentioned that a technician was currently looking at the coffee machine. I'm disappointed that you did not try and rectify the issue and that we had clearly been served coffee from a known faulty machine. Really disappointed.
