Deceptively large and well stocked garden centre and gift centre. Lovely dining area and generous portions of food made to order. Even took away half my panini as it was so big I couldn't finish it. Very kind and helpful staff and a nice touch was asking if we required a boot liner for the plants we had bought. Free of charge. Simple touch that makes the difference. Definitely going back again.

We’ve been regular OAP customers for a long time and recently noticed a decline in the quality of the food. It’s not the cheapest of restaurants and it’s around £10 for a baked potato. The baked potatoes today were awful. Burnt, dried out and very small and actually nearly brown inside! We didn’t complain as what’s the point, they should never have been served up in the first place. Just wouldn’t go back. There’s plenty of other establishments in the area who take pride in what they serve up to customers and are not nearly as expensive and you don’t have to stand in a 20 min queue to get served.

OK so I was here today for brunch and a scone (big one cream and jam) and was going to wax lyrical about how fantastic everything was. I am out for brunch every day and no question this is the best... the only thing better is the laugh you get if you read the negative comments and the reply from the owner , absolutely hilarious. First the negative comments are 90% obviously from grumpy screwed up people but the replies are fantastic , almost as good as the food. Just for the record I totally agree with your policy on dogs , I no longer eat where the muts are allowed in its just disgusting. Please Please just keep doing what you do its very difficult to get the quality and standard you serve and unbelievably hard work. is it expensive ? no! Claridge's is expensive but to be fair they are both value. Thank you

Stopped here a couple of days ago for lunch and a browse on our way to Troon, where we were staying for our anniversary. Cracking wee find! Cafe was busy but the staff dealt with this easily. Food arrived quickly, soups were delicious (shame they'd run out of cheese scones though, as this would have made a nice change to bread). Cakes looked amazing - but we resisted! Great shop, and a large selection of plants at reasonable prices. And delighted to see our favourite section in a garden centre.....the "plant hospital" (i.e. reduced price plants for us to nurse back to good health!) All the staff we encountered were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. We'll definitely be back... and won't resist the cakes next time!

We decided to go for lunch , tearoom had an excellent menu and the cakes are all homemade and so much to choose from . Prices are reasonable and not overpriced. Excellent selection of plants some I not seen in other places. The plant area was well kept and tidy plants all looked healthy, and the lady working there was very helpful in helping me pick out plants . Some garden centres we been to it’s all tea room with some plants for sale , not here this garden centre has it all !! Lots of plants and accessories garden tools etc Garden furniture and lovely clean toilets friendly and helpful staff .Well worth the journey and will certainly be back .

I am Gluten free and had chicken rice soup which was very nice but the accompanied GF roll was not particularly good. We then had coffee and I had a GF empire biscuit which was awful!! It totally disintegrated when I cut it and ended up just a load of crumbs on my plate. Not impressed at all and the cost was not cheap at £2.75 for this small cake. I’m afraid you need to do better for GF customers!!!!!

Visited today for lunch. One of us had the vegetable broth with a cheese scone. Both of which were excellent. The other had a prawn marie rose sandwich, which was accompanied by a small salad, coleslaw, and plain crisps. We finished off with coffees and shared a bakewell tart. Everything was well prepared and tasted delicious, especially the bakewell tart. There was the usual queue when we went in, but it didn't take long until we were served. Always worth the wait.

We are relatively frequent customers and find the overall experience mixed. The cafe itself is lovely and the food is invariably excellent. Some of the staff are charming; others lack warmth; and others still are borderline rude. We keep saying we are not going back, and then buckle after a few weeks. Recently I politely asked what a particular cake was, and the reply was a surly, “It’s written on the front.” It wasn’t, and even had it been, it wasn’t really an answer that smacked of customer service. Having gently tried to impress upon the server that the cake’s name wasn’t written on the glass, they again argued that it was (without offering to tell me anyway) - then realised that I was right, that the particular item had been missed off the glass cabinet (or perhaps put back in the wrong place), and grudgingly barked the name of the cake at me, as though I were some enormous inconvenience to them. I also have to say that, while I understand the motives behind the request not to take a table until served, at very busy times I am not entirely happy to spend the money and saddle myself with an awkward tray without knowing if we are going to get a table (not to mention that my spouse is disabled and not able to stand for as long as is sometimes necessary). We came very close to this very situation on a recent weekday lunchtime visit, and I should have been extremely annoyed to be left standing around, trying to keep a heavy tray up while our drinks got colder by the moment, until such times as a table became vacant. Picking up on something a few other reviewers have mentioned: I am unsurprised that the coffee loyalty card was discontinued. It was an extremely unfair system.

Hi, we visited your cafe today and the two white coffees we purchased were just warm and only just drinkable. We mentioned this to one of the staff who said they would pass it on to the person in charge, she also mentioned that a technician was currently looking at the coffee machine. I'm disappointed that you did not try and rectify the issue and that we had clearly been served coffee from a known faulty machine. Really disappointed.

There's a great selection of sandwiches and paninis, as well as the deli plates which we had. We regularly go here with our 2yr old granddaughter and/or elderly sister in law. We buy around 4-6 coffees a week and for this, one stamp is awarded. 'Rip off' comes to mind. The coffee and scones are good and some of the staff are pleasant but not consistently so. Policy to stand in a queue to order (before you sit down) whether mothers with babies ,young children or elderly infirm is quite discriminating. Customers then have to carry their goods to a vacant table. This is grossly unfair in this day and age of inclusion for all. The actual garden centre is also the same with regard to young children and elderly customers. Everywhere you go there are copious signs saying "Do not' do this "Do not" do that. Heaven forbid if you actually need to sit down and rest. The manager stalks us when we are there with our granddaughter and makes us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. I regularly also spend money on plants but after this recent experience Eden or Gemmells will be our preferred choice. Very, very disappointing when Hayes could be so,so much better than this.

Coffee, home baking, food all very good. No problem there. The “average” rating relates, purely, to the decision to stop the “coffee loyalty card”. This, for me, is a mistake. The “one stamp” to the card per visit was already less than, eg, Eden or Bella Luca - these 2 coffee shops stamp the loyalty card for each hot drink purchased. But, for Hayes to remove this altogether (especially in these difficult times) seems a strange move! Hey ho!

Absolutely disgusting treatment from staff. We checked at the door if we were allowed a therapy dog in and were allowed, then once ordering food and sitting down, we were very rudely told to leave. No understanding for the situation of the small silent dog being needed, and the woman in charge caused a scene which is the worst thing you could do to someone struggling. Had our food refunded and will not return. In response to the company’s reply: We did not “streamroller” anyone as we waited outside while someone went inside to ask and Donna’s daughter gave us permission. The dog was carried in so there was no possibility of mess and I suggest Donna needs sent for retraining on the law concerning therapy and assistance dogs as you have made the company liable to a law suit.

I was at Hayes garden centre today and had a pretty bad experience. They have all their Christmas stuff out and my daughter (she is only 3) accidentally broke a glass bauble which was hanging from one of their Christmas trees which I later found out was only £2.99 retail. I was then chased by a member of staff who demanded I pay for the broken bauble. I did end up paying for it but have come away feeling done over as surly this is a given in these places that accidents happen. if they do not have contingency for these wee accidents they should have fragile items out of reach or cordoned off. My daughter then felt like she had done something really bad and I felt sorry for her . Really disappointed and feel like the staff didn’t handle this very well at all. we are regular visitors to the centre for coffee/lunch And spend a fair amount, we told the girl this but she didn’t care - extremely poor customer service! All this upset for a £2.99 bauble!!!

Christmas prep done well as always. Cafe good with huge selection. Prices on the expensive side but quality justifies this. Quickly and pleasantly served. Bacon roll is huge and note the sliced sausage roll gives you two slices so well worth it. Lovely chicken and leek soup and carrot cake. Only downside was damaged wicker chair at table which had ragged metal spar that caught my daughters knee. Raised it with server who was most apologetic and checked everything was ok and promised chair would be removed. Will be back before Christmas for more bacon roll goodness!

We are regulars at Hayes in Symington. More expensive than most in Ayrshire it has to be said but that wouldn’t stop us from going. However...................£3.45 for a skinny slice of Lorne sausage on a breakfast roll is just too much! A roll with 3 slices of quality bacon at Hayes is also £3.45. I think most people know how much lorne sausage is so come on, Hayes, either pop 2 slices of lorne on your rolls or reduce the price.
