The Fox in The Vale of Glamorgan

We have been coming to the Fox for a good few years, it has always been our go to for birthday treats. Tonight was a huge disappointment. My husband and I ordered sirloin steak and the quality was awful. It was tasteless, tough and overcooked. I did complain but was just told they would take 50% off one of the steaks. I didn’t eat mine. I think what was even more disappointing was that they didn’t seem to care. The waitress was lovely but if there was a manager on site then they weren’t interested in speaking with us. This is the first negative restaurant review I have ever written. Such a shame. We won’t be returning, and I’m guessing The Fox won’t be interested in responding

The Fox had been recommended by a friend and as we had an anniversary coming up I thought it was worth a try. We were not disappointed. The food (we decided on the a la carte menu) was excellent. There were 4 choices of starter and main dishes and we ordered butternut squash soup followed by duck breast, and beef hash followed by duck breast. All were excellent quality and of decent portion size. We did order additional veg to go with the duck - again great quality. Service was friendly and very efficient, no long waits between dishes (perhaps having a limited choice makes this easier). All in all, highly recommended. A very minor disappointment, not to be taken too seriously, Gavin Henson was not on hand as a waiter.

Brilliant!!! Went to The Fox last night 29/08/24. My daughter kept looking at the boys in the kitchen 🙈🙈 specially the KP. But anyways. Fabulous food and such grate service the girls that were on were fantastic and watching the chefs cook just made the evening honestly 100% recommend the fox.

We stumbled across this wonderful place and SO glad we did. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and warm and inviting throughout. The staff were really friendly and efficient and the food we ordered was delicious, arrived quickly and was such good value for money. We were lucky enough to be there on a live music evening which completed our already very enjoyable evening. Would highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again if in the area.

When we arrived the lady behind the bar was very abrupt and made us feel very unwelcome. We agreed to stay and not let this destroy our bank holiday and ordered food. The menu is very limited but when it arrived it tasted amazing.

Not been before so we thought we would try dinner in the restaurant here for a special event. There is a restaurant menu and bar menu - all individually priced. One of our party asked to have a main off the bar menu - chef’s answer was no as he would not mix the menus. Another of the party asked for fries instead of triple cooked chips - chef said no. We did contemplate just going to the bar and ordering and paying for the one meal there but seemed rude. Waitress staff were nice and seemed a bit embarrassed. Service was good from them. Restaurant food pricey for what it is. Would we go again - maybe to the bar - locals seemed pleasant!

We travelled for an hour to enjoy a wonderful early afternoon unch for a birthday celebration in the restaurant at The Fox. From the Al a Carte we had a selection of starters, including the best scallops we've ever tasted. Steak and hake main meals and a burger from the pub menu. The food was exceptionally fresh, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. There were bsolutely no issues at all with the atmosphere, beautiful decor, lovely, helpful staff, choice and quality of the exceptional food. Our visit was far beyond our expectations of a country pub. We also met owner, ex-rugby player Gavin Henson, who was so charming and friendly. The bar was also beautifully decorated and atmospheric. We all would highly recommend a visit to The Fox.

Very over priced and small portions. Surely a £28.00 steak could be provided with some veg, but no, you would have to pay £6-£8 for a veg portion. It came with a small portion of chips. One steak arrived cold (there were 6 of us) and was reheated and reserved rather than provide a new medium steak, meaning it was now well done. The lamb came with nothing and was £26 so with potatoes and veg it would be extremely costly so my friend settled with steak. The food itself was ok but this is a pub in a village not fine dining. The starters were so limited that one of our party declined as there was nothing they would eat. Limited menu and expense need to be considered. We will not be back. Service was fine and it was pointed out the chef had only been there for 2 weeks so maybe prices and portions need to reflect this.

I took my mum to this restaurant for her birthday during a special trip away. We booked three weeks in advance and secured the reservation with my credit card. Two days before, I called to reconfirm the booking and enquired about the 1.5-hour table limit, expressing concern that our three-course meal with coffee might take longer. They assured me it wouldn't be a problem. On the evening of our reservation, we arrived dressed up and excited for our meal. We had to wait a long time to be seated because the bar was very busy, and they were understaffed. I didn’t mind this. However, when we finally sat down and asked for the menu, we were told that the chef didn't start until Friday, and only the bar menu was being served, offering items like chip butties and dirty burgers instead of the seasonal menu we expected. I was shocked that they hadn’t mentioned this in either of my calls, especially since the lady serving us was the same person I spoke with on the phone. She claimed she thought we would have known, which was impossible unless we were telepathic. My mum was really upset as it was her birthday. The lady said she would give us time to think it through and then never returned. We ended up leaving the restaurant and going back to our holiday home. Overall, it was a dreadful experience.

Top quality food. I live in London where there are so many good restaurants to choose from so to come home to Wales and dine in this gorgeously decorated pub was a real find. Next time I am home, I’m visiting again

Booked lunch in the restaurant. Three of us all had different meals, and standard was uniformly very good. Leek veloute with poached egg, and sea bass with soft shell crab were excellent. Will definitely come again.

Expensive and disappointing Sunday lunch. All our party was disappointed with quality of food definitely not as good as our first visit. I had lamb it was very rare and tough. I sent it back and was exchanged for belly pork which was nice tasting but crackling soggy. Vegetables apart from roasties were also not cooked as nice as last time. Flaming crème brûlée was more like a thick custard.

Cannot fault a thing. From the service, the atmosphere and the food! Exceptional! We initially had a spontaneous Korean fried cauliflower brought out to us as a complimentary starter to taste and it was beautiful, so much flavour. Lovely flavour packed shell with a soft creamy inside. What a start! We ordered the bread and olives to start and the pumpkin ravioli. Even something as simple as bread and olives were amazing! The bread was beautiful fresh fluffy with a beautiful crust and the olives were firm coated in a mixed pepper and herb dressing. The ravioli was truly something special, never tasted anything like it. Fresh pasta and such a beautiful mixed pumpkin filling with samphire. The mains we had the seabass with soft shell crab and my goodness the seabass was the best white fish I've tried in a long time, it had so much flavour and truly just melted in the mouth. Then for dessert we had the chocolate and hazelnut brownie which was just a bowl of gooey goodness! The service was impeccable, we had this lovely lady (which I have sadly forgotten her name) who was so tentative and explained the menu beautifully. Honestly all in all a faultless afternoon, we will most definitely be returning.

Food was incredible, best food I had in 2023. Service was good on a very busy evening and even had some delicious tasters courtesy of the chef before our meal. Can't recommend it enough.

Booked The Fox for a post-Christmas meal with my daughter. We’d heard great things about The Fox but I’m afraid our Express poor. Both the chicken and duck were served with mashed potatoes, which weren’t listed on the menu, which rendered the triple cooked chips we’d ordered superfluous. Mine were ordered with Parmesan and truffle but there was little evidence of either. The accompanying vegetables on both meals were equally disappointing. On a positive note the manager dealt with my complaint in an extremely professional manner and made adjustments to our bill, and I thank her for that.

An absolutely wonderfully faultless Sunday roast. I don’t normally write with reviews, but I just had to share how good our experience here was!

Highly recommend this lovely country pub. Nice vegetarian options and delicious puddings! We will be back!

The Fox is an amazing place to visit for a drink or a meal. A welcoming atmosphere and all the staff are so accommodating and nothing is to much trouble. The food is unique and outstanding whether eating in the bar or restaurant. You will definitely want to go back and eat there again. We stayed in the air B&B which is above the pub. Aptly called the hideaway! It is a little bit of luxury and definitely worth a visit. Thank you all for making our stay a great experience.

A disappointment. We have been many times , but today the service was poor, we booked the restaurant and got put in the bar, then we were left for about 15 minutes without being offered a drink. We asked to be moved and we were offered free drinks. Front of house staff weren’t at all knowledgeable and the food was not great. Prawns 🍤 were just battered with hardly any chilli jam, beef was tough and chewy and the Affogato wasn’t great either. There was limited atmosphere. We won’t be rushing back - in our opinion there are better places to eat this side of the vale. Such a shame.
