Everything was perfect, except from the lady called Daisy saw her sniffing Coke and smoking weed in her car so not the best place to take kids when the servers are off their faces

New cocktail bar on site, Good village pub that serves lunchtime food. Pop up food venders in the evenings on Thurs. Good Indian restaurant next door. Good beer, sensible prices, and large garden. Very child friendly.

Everything was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and served with a smile. We all agreed it was the best calamari we had ever eaten, the onion rings were home made, crisp and golden, and our drinks came in their respective glasses with plenty of ice and lemon/lime wedges. Will definitely go back.

My wife and I ate here on a Saturday evening - and the restaurant was full. We had the two t-bone steaks for £22 offer - great value. Food was great, and we had a nice Malbec too. Nice atmosphere and friendly service too.

Had a birthday meal here with my family. Well prepared food and plenty of it. Great service with friendly staff. Very clean with pleasant surroundings. Lots of table room.

Visited for dinner, although deserted we were well looked after and all of the food was excellent. Highly recommend it.

We have been here a couple of times in the last few months. Both times the food was very good, and both times the staff were very friendly. We went without booking both times, both times were when they just opened and we got a seat, but towards the end the restaurant was getting full. I would recommend, and we will be going back. The food is very good and prices are reasonable.

We ate here on a Saturday evening - just the two of us. We both had the beef enchiladas, and they were very tasty - definitely recommend them. Service was very good too.

Wow what a fantastic selection of gins, hardly knew where to start. Parmer violet gin has a great taste, reminds me of the sweets as a child. Will try the raspberry one next time.

Loads of people had recommended The Fox for its Mexican restaurant and I can understand why. It’s a nice setting with great service but the food is the real star of the show. Everything we ate was top quality and we are looking forward to going back and next time we won’t be driving so we can sample the tequilas!!!

Just got home from having a really fantastic 3 course Mexican meal with my wife at The Fox!! We travelled 30 minutes to try the food after hearing an ad on the radio and, as Mexican food lovers, we weren’t disappointed!!! The portions were great, the flavour and quality of the food was fantastic and the staff were lovely. I had the Con Carne Nachos to start, the beef Burrito for main and Chimichanga for desert and I would highly recommended all of them! My wife had veggie options and enjoyed them equally as much!! We will be back!!!

Started off with G&Ts; in the bar before moving through into the newly refurbished restaurant. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Food was very good - we both had the steaks which were cooked perfectly.

A tasty mexican meal tonight as always and loved the smart new restaurant decor. The pancakes on the menu were a lovely touch for dessert for Shrove Tuesday, thank you very much for a lovely evening, it won’t be long before we visit again.

We stayed in Burwell for one night at a local Bed and Breakfast and came across the is restaurant. The food was excellent and the staff really friendly. If your visiting Burwell we recommend you go here.

The Fox is a friendly pub in Burwell with a good selection of tap and bottled beer. Regular events too with bands and move music. Always has a lovely atmosphere, very welcoming.

Its been a while since my last visit, but nothing has changed, its still good food and good service. We had loads of different things and every one of them was really great. I wont wait as long to come again.

En vez de la normal comida mexicana, nos fuimos para una semana especial. Carne asada y un dulce (tarta) por sólo 8 libras. La comida estaba caliente con una gran variedad de hortalizas, buenas porciones y con un personal muy atento. Que volver ubicación.

La comida era bien presentada, no la comida mexicana más picante he comido pero buen sabor, no obstante. Mi compañero eligió filete del menú que era muy agradable y perfectamente preparado.

The food in this restaurant is excellent. The Sunday lunch is huge and very tasty. The desserts are home made . The main menu for during the week is Mexican which is delicious.

Visited the Fox for dinner on a second date, it was deserted when we arrived at about 7-ish, which set alarm bells ringing, but the people of Burwell's loss turned out to be our gain.We started with a shared plate of tortillas and guacamole which simply couldn't be faulted. The guac in particular was fresh and although it could have done with a little stronger flavour, this is just my personal preference.For mains, I went with the pulled pork enchiladas and my partner opted for an open prawn tortilla thingy.What I received were two enchiladas the size of cannon barrels, loaded with some of the most incredible pulled pork I've ever tasted and served with just the right amount of tangy salsa, sour cream and rice.My partner ended up with a mountain of soft, delicious prawns, salad and avocado atop a thick, perfectly textured tortilla. I was allowed to eat one prawn, and immediately realised why she was keeping the rest for herself.From start to finish the service was attentive, paced spot-on and friendly. We were asked at the start about any allergies we might have, and while we're both fine on that score, it's good to know they've got their act together to cater to anyone who wants to enjoy this top grub without any repercussions.Go out for dinner at the Fox! Take your friends, take your kids, take your spouse, and if your spouse doesn't want to go; get a new one.

I visited recently for lunch with my daughter & grandchildren having checked first that they offered a children's menu, apparently they do but not at lunchtime !!! We were unaware of this until we were finally settled in the restaurant and offered the menu by which time it was difficult to leave. We were offered smaller portions from the main menu but that was far from ideal. We ordered and at that time were the only people in the restaurant the food ordered was basic but still took a long time to come as had the drinks. Once the food arrived it was quite good but would not consider it anywhere near the best mexican we have eaten. Then came the time to pay the bill once it arrived and I had to walk around the pub to find the waitress so that we could pay !! All in all not an experience I wish to repeat. I have left some time before writing this review as I was very angry at the time and could not decide whether to or not but given that since we have visited others places and received far better service & food felt I wanted to review.

Mexican food here is a slice of heaven on earth !!Always incredibly well-cooked and well-presented.Would highly recommend without reservation or doubt

We recently visited The Fox for my partners' birthday and were thoroughly impressed. We had made a reservation, just to be sure, but on a Wednesday evening it was fairly quiet, with only a few other tables occupied. As we were celebrating, we took full advantage of the cocktail selection and were very impressed by all that we tried (the "Envy" and "Spiced Rum Mule" being particularly good!). The service was quick and attentive and we received our starters soon after ordering, with the main meals following in just the right amount of time. All the dishes were declared extremely tasty and we were all very happy with our choices. I definitely recommend the tapas option for the main meal. There were just too many dishes that I wanted to try and this gave me the option to have quite a few that I fancied, whilst still being the perfect amount of food. The restaurant itself is small and cosy, with a fun Mexican ambiance and music. All in all, it was an enjoyable and satisfying meal out and we'll definitely be back.

Had the 2 for £20 steak meal deal. £10 each for a full meal with an amazing steak! It came with an 8oz steak, chips, onion rings, tomato and salad. Seriously amazing sized meal and the steak was cooked to perfection! Thank you. Will be back very soon x

My Partner and I visited The Fox last night (Wednesday) after being recommended by a friend. We were really pleased with the food and service. It was a brilliant atmosphere and great value for money. I had the sizzling Fajitas which were lovely, the chicken was tender and the spice was perfect! My partner had the 10oz Sirloin and was genuinely impressed with the quality of the meat. The waitress that served us was great...a fantastic find and brilliant Mexican steak house! I would fully recommend!

We went to the Fox on a Tuesday night just after Christmas and we were the only ones in the restaurant. I have tried to book a Friday or Saturday before and it has been full, so it looks like week-nights are the time to go!I found the food really good. I enjoy Mexican food and it is hard to find places in the UK that do it well. And don't get confused with tex-mex - this is proper Mexican. Everything was very spicy, so be careful if you are not a chilli fan.Service was very good and prices were reasonable, so overall, a very good meal.

We have been patrons of The Fox since Bob and Louise started their venture in 2005. in the early years it was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble and Louise ran a great font of house service. I too ALL my business clients there and we always left with the highest praise.Somewhere along the way it has lost its way though and the last 3 visits have disappointed.Last night was particularly disappointing though. We asked if the service could be slowed down a little as the place was reasonably quiet and it was our first meal out in a few weeks.A very pleasant lady with dark hair said that this was OK,and returned a few moments later to say the steak was being cooked already. We said not to worry we would have a dessert later.However the "medium rare" steak arrived about 15 minutes later cunningly disguised as a medium to well done steak pink in the middle with no juices flowing.Not to worry the same lady said and sent it straight back and said that it would be about 4 or 5 minutes; a reasonable comment as that is about how long it takes to cook a steak medium rare - not the 15 minutes as per the wait.The steak had not reappeared when the other meal had been finished - there was no offer to re-cook that despite leaving two people out together eating at separate times. A strange but true fact last night,The replacement steak arrived only after complaining, this time to a blond haired lady who appeared indifferent to the issue and summonsed the manager saying that we had been rude to her. yes it is true that we had to shout, but that was because she had walked away from the table as we were asking where the steak was.The owner duly appeared and without further ado told us to leave and not to come back. We were not even asked our version of events. Very good customer care!"Customers may forget what you said but they'll never forget how you made them feel." We were made to feel superfluous to requirements.Looking forward to the El Guaca Mexican Grill; The Anchor and The 5 Five Bells.

We visited the Fox after hearing rave reviews from family members. To say this was the worst meal I've ever had the misfortune of eating is definitely true. We arrived a bit after 18:30 to find the door firmly locked. After knocking loudly twice, we were greeted by a member of staff that made no effort to hid the fact that we were inconveniencing them by showing up. We were showed to a table for two and while we perused the menu, we ordered nachos and guacamole to start. What arrived was just nacho chips with a pot of guacamole, no cheese, no sour cream... Just guacamole that tasted of a thousand limes!Feeling brave (and after the recommendation from the waitress) we ordered the Jalapeno Chicken Burrito and I asked for no coriander in mine. When the food arrived it had tomato salsa plopped on one end of the burrito, and it was swimming in coriander! In the middle was a tiny pile of refried beans and the other end was a dollop of sour cream. The delights held inside of this now cold burrito (thanks to the cold condiments plonked on top) was an onion and a half chopped in large pieces and a few slices of chicken that tasted of nothing, and when I say nothing I mean a glass of water has more spice than that chicken. There were some "extra" jalapenos on the side of the plate that I had to mix in with my food to get some taste from the meal, seeing as my "3 chillies hot" main had one jalapeno in it.We complained and were offered a free drink each. I'd say you'd be best to avoid this place unless you like overpriced food with no flavour and staff that make you feel like you are an inconvenience.

Fantastic food, freshly cooked, relaxing atmosphere. If you remember what Chiquitos was like when it was good then this joint is x2 better

We visited here on a Sunday afternoon. It was quiet so we got a table ok. Nice atmosphere, clean and tidy.

Surprising menu of mexican food at the FoxPerhaps the dining arae could be made more of and the mexican music was a bit annoying, but the food was really good.

Two of us ate here on a Saturday evening. The food was very good; the beef fajitas were excellent with the beef tender and tasty. Service was also excellent - warm and friendly - and the atmosphere good.

We went here in March 2016. We had sharing starters, mains and one dessert. It was all very tasty and we used a voucher so it was good value. They do not do a wide range of desserts but that is the only thing I had against it. I would definitely visit again.

I was there on 12 July and we had their Mexican food. It was delicious, beautifully served and very very generous portions, but don't worry if you cannot eat everything, they will pack your leftover so you can take it home. Absolutely loved it there. We also got 2 shots of their tequila roses for free, very yummy. The lady serving nice was very nice. The restaurant is also very clean and nicely decorated. I will go back there again.

I called in here for an evening meal while working and staying in the area. I wasn't disappointed, the food & the service was great.I don't normally eat mexican but glad i gave it a try, very tasty.

Just been for a family meal best mexican I've had for ages defo recommend great portion sizes and long Island ice tea. Can't wait to go again.

Four of stopped here for drinks on a Saturday afternoon. Plenty of parking and some outside seating. Service was good and we look forward to eating there in the future.

We called in on the off chance and decided to eat. Lovely pub and very inviting so after a cool lager we decided that a snack was in order. I choose the ploughman's. It arrived with a buttered small slice of white bread and a grated cheese ( yes I did say grated). I found some brown balls which were disgusting and to my horror very old pickled beetroot. That was returned and replaced with fresher ones. Thankfully I was not very hungry as it was inadequate and lacking the main ingredients of a ploughman's chunky bread and cheese. Sorry guys not good enough in this day of age.

We have been to the fox on several occasions and it is a decent meal. The biggest issue is the lack of service. Ordered a margarita and it came in a martini glass which is a massive foul. If they want to cater to the mexican food market they ned to focus more on the customer and the product they are putting out. Food however was good, hence why I would return.

I picked this place as it was halfway for our reunion ( see blottie post ) it is a lovely small restaurant, the staff where very good and understanding as we hadn't seen each other for years !! I felt the starter could have been better ( We had a starter for 2 , I found the portion size disappointing,the size of the starter for 1 person was much better) the mains was very nice, however , please not so many of those red hot chillies they almost blew my hat off, most people left these on one side of there plates, maybe put these in a small bowl, so people can add them if wanted?The dessert was delayed, however this gave us time to carry on chatting, when dessert did arrive it was soon devoured. With so many people ordering sizzling plates the room soon got very smoky, this issue needs to be addressed, as some customers may have medical conditions which could be aggravated by the smoke.Overall I found the waiting staff very good, the food was good, but not fantastic, the evening was memorable, but that was due to the reunion.Would I go back ? Yes I probably would.

Amazing place, attentive staff and superb food. A table was booked for six people to have a reunion. Shown to the table on time and waited upon politely and professionally. Food was served quite quickly and the portions were huge. Dessert was delayed but Staff reimbursed us for this and complimentary shots were served. The meal was un rushed and we all felt that, unlike in other restaurants, we were not hurried and it was not an issue that we were still there four hours later!

We enjoyed our meal - the burritos were huge and the home made nacho chips were good value. Service was helpful, with flexible suggestions on gluten free options. They were very busy and everyone seemed to be having fun. The only improvement would be better ventilation when they bring out the fajitas as the small space can get a bit smoky! overall we had a fun time - thanks

I loved the food but the meal was let down by slow service, there were some bigger groups in but the food was slow to arrive even before these groups arrived. The food was really nice and good value, spicy and full of flavour.I would go back if the service could be improved.

Improved since the last time we visited when we were embarrassed by meanness. As a result haven't visited for two years. However, pleased to say that staff were friendly, food was very good and portions seem to be back to normal. Will go again soon. Good beer selection.

You always get a warm welcome at the Fox. It is always buzzing in a nice 'village' way. Friendly landlord and great for holding events to help the village eg charity quiz's. Good choice of beer. great beer festival every year. Mexican restaurant attached to it is delicious too.

This was our first visit here even though we all have lived in the area for over 25 years! We all had the sharing platter starter which had a bit of most things on it. Cooked perfectly and full of flavour. I then had the chilli chimichanga and that was very tasty. One had steak, one had burito and other had the combo meal and all were cooked again perfectly and really tasty. The portions are more than generous so unfortunately we couldn't manage a sweet but never mind as this is a very good excuse to make a return visit! The staff also were really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is just right to as you weren't squashed with tables very close together and seems all very calm in there. We were all throughly impressed and will definitely be returning!

First time here, but had heard about it. I would def go again, food was really good. Restaurant is quite small but clean and well laid out, mexican/spanish music in the background and nicely decorated. Menu is extensive with specials too and plenty of choice, would recommend the chimichangas! No room left for pudding, but were a few available, staff nice and polite too. Bar in the other half of pub looked nice and busy, plenty of car parking but do share with indian next door

My first Mexican, my first Chimichanga and my first visit to the town that shares my name. The staff were friendly and attentive, the menu was varied and enticing adn the ambience was suitably South American. I had the Nachos and cheese to start, they were just the right mixture of crispy and soft at the same time and the cheese had a strong flavour. Then I had a Chimichanga for my main course,the first time I've tried this and I loved it. The contents of Chorizo, Spinach , Wild Mushrooms and cheese were well balanced and well prepared. I would review the Millionaires Shortbread as a dessert ....but I had no room left after the fantastic portions. All round a worthwhile visit and a great meal.

Visited The Fox with two friends for a meal. We hadn't booked but the staff were happy to fit us in. The pub has a lovely friendly atmosphere. Tables are situated so you don't feel like you're on top of each other which is nice. The food was lovely, hot and there was plenty of it! Will definitely go back again. Well worth a visit.

Discovering such a great Mexican restaurant hiding in an English village location was a very nice surprise! We went there for a birthday dinner and everything was just perfect, from the food to the decor. The portions were a good size and there is a large selection to choose from (so many dishes we wanted to try so we'll definitely be back!).

To hot to cook on a summer evening my friend and I decided to go out and so glad we did. For starters we had lovely Nachos to share which set us up a treat for a truly appetising main dish of fajita's that we both decided to have that was cooked to perfection! We didn't have room for dessert, but will try to next time! Highly recommend.

This place used to be amazing! What happened?Went for a quick lunch on a Saturday and the restaurant area was closed so ate in the bar. Not very child friendly, lots of early drunken guys not watching their potty mouths. Menu was very limited and we were not even told about the specials board, which actually had we seen, would have ordered from. Food took forever (45 minutes) to arrive and we really couldn't understand why as there was only one other table of diners. This place used to do lovely Mexican inspired food, they call it authentic but it isn't sadly. It was not good value for money either. Chimichangas are £11 and frankly tasteless as are the quesadillas. So is the guacamole, very bland. So sad this place has not maintained its tasty menu. Will head to Cambridge as usual when I want Mexican.

We went to The Fox as a group of four on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was quite busy. We were made welcome by the friendly staff and ordered drinks and food from an extensive menu. When the food arrived it was piping hot, well cooked and very tasty! I will make sure we return!!!

I had the Pocito de todo platter. Put it this way not very impressed. If your looking for OK Mexcan food this is the place. I could critic the food but take it from a Mexican its not worth the time.

The room had no atmosphere, it seemed cold and uninviting. The food was expensive and not tasty. If you like Mexican food don't expect it here!

Can only recommend the Fox, food is always excellent, staff very attentive and the decor matches.If you are ever in the area or coming back from the races, drop in you will not be disappointed.

We have eaten at The Fox Mexican a few times and it is always excellent. The staff are helpful and knowledgable. The menu caters for all tastes, the food is fresh and delicious and the portions are large! There are often interesting specials and I dare you to try and finish a chocolate pot for dessert!Personally, I love the steaks at The Fox.

We went here on a Tuesday night and there was nobody else in. We thought we might have made a mistake but the food is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The best Mexican I've had and I've had a few and been to Mexico. Highly recommend this place.

We visited on 27th Sept and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Service was excellent, staff very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was really lovely and plenty of it. I managed 3 courses simply because it was so good! Definitely will go back.

The new menu has a few more sizzling dishes to entice us back time and again. The young and enthusiastic staff are always on hand to help, the food is extra tasty and the portions will never see you wanting for more, but I highly recommend you leave enough for dessert. Brilliant!

Had a super evening here at The Fox (must be my 6th time here), never fails to disappoint. Great and helpful staff, very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Good choices on the menu and easily explained, with explanations on what the types of foods are, heat levels etc. Some really good specials on the board too. Great atmosphere, relaxed, not too noisy and just the right level. Free tquila shot at the end of the meal, rounded off a good all round dining experience.

Having family in Burwell, I have visited the Fox a number of times. It's the only non-chain Mexican I know of & I do love Mexican food. However, I always leave rather disappointed. The waitresses are great and very attentive to start but once you've been waiting over half an hour for food they seem to steer clear. I assume this is because of the number of queries & complaints about the delay as food never arrives in a timely fashion. Last night was over 50 minutes - we have waited that long for starters before. The restaurant was less than half full so I cannot explain the delay - neither could the waiting staff. We have learnt that missing starters helps slightly, but it's still not a place to go if you're hungry before you arrive. The food itself varies. When they get it right, it's lovely. Last night 3 out of 4 were great, 2 steaks ordered medium came out medium and very well done. This was pointed out to the waiting staff who apologised. Unfortunately that only goes so far when the food is so late, & of low standard. The Fox has great potential but it something is currently lacking in the execution.

Living so close to the fox, it's beyond me how I haven't been before! Cambridge News vouchers meant starter and main for £10 each! Enchiladas as main were great just what I fancied and the starter choices were so difficult to choose. V gd set menu, lovely food! Waitress didn't have too much character about her but very nice so no complaints on service or overall meal!! You want great Mexican food give it a go like I did!!! Compliments to the chef!

Made a return visit to the Fox recently and as usual the service, food and atmosphere was excellent. What more can you wish for, will be back soon.

I visited the Fox on March 7th with some friends for a birthday treat. We had the Nachos with cheese and chilli it was delicious. Then we had steaks I had the fillet with peppercorn sauce and it was just melt in the mouth delicious. My friend had the sizzling sirloin Steak which he opted for the rice instead of chips and both were really tasty One of the others had Chilli con Carne and loved it. The portions are very generous there is a lovely atmosphere and the staff are very helpful and friendly. I had a really lovely margarita We were too full for desserts though there was a great selectionI would definitely recommend this restaurant and also they offer a fantastic two course roast dinner on a Thursday for £6.95 an absolute bargain I have been twice and can't wait to go again the last time I had roast pork and homemade sticky toffee pudding which was to die for

My husband and I visited the fox last night (7th march) for the 1st time in ages since we have recently moved to the village. Although the food was tasty, I wouldn't say the service was that great. Waiter could not pronounce the specials so we did not understand what she was saying. Also we ordered onion rings and they forgot to bring them out till we had finished our mains! That's not my concern though, once I got home I started experiencing excruciating stomach cramps and back pain. I'm nearly 15 weeks pregnant and was terrified what was going on. Iv had no sleep all night, have been taking paracetamol all night and had to lay with a hot water bottle on my back to try and ease the pain. This morning both my husband and I have spent all morning with severe diarrhea. Although the pain has eased now I haven't been able to get out of bed yet as I feel so awful. This is compleatley unacceptable and definatley isn't the sort of thing any one need when there pregnant. Will never be visiting the fox again!

I went here on a Saturday night and experienced really great service throughout. I had the prawn cocktail to start which was very generous on portion size with a great creamy sauce. My main was a rib eye steak which cooked well and really tasty, with a lovely margarita to wash it down. Will definitely visit again.

We liked this place allot. I like Mexican as it's an easy food to enjoy. I had no clue what things were on the menu to begin with but had them explained really helpfully. I now know enchiladas are my thing and my god you will get a plate full! I did think before food arrived it was a tad expensive but you do get what you pay for and it was yummy.

My friend and I ate at the Fox several months ago and the food is a great take on Mexican. It's close to what real Mexican food tastes like, with a British twist! The waitress was really friendly and was knowledgeable about the food they served. At the end of our meal, they even surprised us with a free shot of tequila. If your tired of the same ol' dining experience in and around the Fens, then give the Fox a try.

We live locally, but don't treat ourselves to meals out often, but for my husband's birthday we made an exception! Had a fabulous night, the table was decorated (thanks!) for us, and our orders were taken promptly after we'd opened our fizz. I didn't want rice with my meal, and was well compensated by lots of lovely extra guacamole (my fave) and salad. Servings massive, so we didn't have a starter, and as usual all very tasty. I had the burrito, as did one other of the party, one had enchilada, and my husband had the special, T Bone steak. Of course I had to try a bit and it was so tasty! So much so he ate the lot and ended up chewing the bone!The tequila at the end was, as ever, a lovely finish. yummy.

We have eaten at the Fox on several occasions and always had great food. The choice is good and staff are willing to alter the dishes if asked. I especially love the calamari and the fajitas.

We live fairly locally and had heard nothing but great reviews about The Fox. We at last went this evening but were really disappointed. Burrito tasted like left over steak from night before. Enchilada was better but really nothing to rave about. Felt it was all too stodgy. Service was also poor - place wasn't busy but we weren't asked if we wanted more drinks despite obviously empty glasses. We were asked if the food was ok before I'd had the chance to get my fork to my mouth. Lady in bar was however lovely and the starter was really tasty. Can't get past the disappointment though and with other better eateries close by, won't be returning.
