The Gamlingsy Walking Group commenced their 5-mile walk from the pub today. Adequate parking and John, the landlord opened early so members could fill their water bottles etc. A superb buffer lunch awaited our return. The pub could not have done more to make us welcome. Spotlessly clean facilities.

Beautifully peaceful village and setting, one of the nicest beer gardens I've seen with mature trees, a large gazebo and new picnic benches, and the two churches visible to one side. Friendly service too. Perfect.

We visited on Sunday afternoon to enjoy the big beer garden & sunshine, despite the Sunday Lunch menu being finished for the summer, the landlord (recently taken over the pub late 2023) was happy to pop on some chicken goujons & homemade chips for some basket meals and joined us in the garden for a chat. The pub is authentic and cosy, not trying to be too many things! They had a beer festival on recently so we got to try a few limited edition still ciders too. Thank you for the warm welcome, we’ll be back :)

This is how pubs should be, old decor with bits and pieces of interesting tools and local photos. The landlord and landlady were super friendly and treated us so well. The food is not trying to be haute cuisine, just proper food done well and served in decent portions. My ham egg and chips was great, and the apple crumble and custard was delicious. Thanks for a lovely pub lunch. It is situated in a great setting with views of the 2 interesting churches next door. We came on a windy day in spring but in better weather the extensive garden would be amazing. Price point quoted above includes: 2x drinks each, main meal, and pudding.

Positives: The pub looks the part inside and out, and it's in a picturesque setting. I went for lunch on a Saturday without booking and there was no problem getting a table. The prices are lower than at similar places. Negatives: The staff seemed inexperienced and did more blagging than was necessary. My friend ordered a lime & soda and ended up with a glass of soda water with a slice of lime in it. In the same vein, the pizza we ordered arrived without one of its main toppings ('nduja), and when we questioned it the staff initially claimed that it was us who were mistaken. Ultimately and after some minutes in the kitchen they had to acknowledge that they actually hadn't put any on, because they'd run out. The chef put some more salami on in recompense but overall it was a bit of a strange experience. The garden is supposed to be a feature of this place but you're not allowed to eat in it (even when it's very quiet). Summary: A visually charming locals-type pub let down by some cut corners

The staff were really accommodating with the time we wanted to eat, even calling to say we could pre order and arrive a bit before opening time. The food was also delicious.
