The Fountain Takeaway in North Lanarkshire

Fish supper was awful it looked like it had been cooked the day before the rolls fell apart when trying to butter them obviously took from the freezer. Avoid in the future the food is expensive as it is without getting hit with this rubbish.

I used to love this chippy, been going here for nearly four years now, however the last time I got a fish supper there was hardly any chips. I know with the cost of electricity bills, prices has gone up, however the portions have went down. I decided to give it one more try to see if it was the servers dishing out the portions. Same thing happened again, few chips. With prices increasing the portions should stay the same. Decided to go somewhere else as pay 10quid for fish and few chips is not worth it.

Had not long became a delivery driver for the company and it seemed to be going well, there was just a couple of issues about finding addresses of some new housing schemes with messed up numbers but my last day, I had just left the shop with 3 orders and had decided to go to the furthest away address and go to the others while making my way back. My phone kept ringing to find out where I was considering I was just barely 5 minutes away from the shop, having to pull in so I could answer it (obviously delaying the delivery, including multiple roadworks and closed streets everywhere, having to take alternative routes). After finally dropping off the first delivery, I made my way to the 2nd address but had to phone the shop and ask for a price because they forgot to write it on the receipt (another delay), then made my way to the final address which wasn’t far from the shop. It felt like management wasn’t happy with me and complained I was taking too long to get back. I didn’t like the attitude or treatment, they even had the staff phone me during a drop off that when I went to answer, I accidentally tore the bag of food and immediately told them that. I think I was unfairly treated in the situation, like the management was putting pressure on me on purpose and worrying that the food would arrive cold. All orders were kept in a hot bag and were still roasting on delivery so the managements treatment towards me was unbelievable. I think all deliveries were done in a reasonable time, even with loads of roadworks around the area. If I knew this was going to be the attitude, I would have never applied for the vacancy in the first place. I feel sorry for the other drivers and I’m glad I’m not going back. At least the rest of the staff were more pleasant and civil, including the customers.

Decided one night to have some fish and chips, going by my past experiences with chip shops in the Coatbridge area I was a bit apprehensive but I should not have been, I ordered two fish suppers took them home and was absolutely delighted with them, the fish had proper crisp bubbly batter that they never seem to achieve in Scotland it is a usually flat soggy pale yellow batter that sticks to the paper, my partner Sandra is from Bridlington were they know about fish and chips, the same as Whitby very famous for fish and chips that are not soggy muck.

Disgusting re-heated fish which I hadn’t realised I had been given until I got home. Had to chuck most of it out as it was inedible. Chips weren’t up to much either. I was rather taken aback to see they have brought the two metre self-distancing rule down to 1.5 metres. The five staff behind the counter ignored the rule completely which could have disastrous consequences for themselves and their customers. Dreadful.

We both visited this this very busy fast food takeaway while in the area recently, we were served extremely quickly, found the staff to be fast and efficient, food was fresh and piping hot, the premises appeared to be extremely clean, we would have no hesitation in recomending this takeaway.

Four staff stand and look at you as if you're in waiting for a bus. Fifteen minutes after waiting in line to be served and ignored, as the staff make up orders, someone walks in front of you and gets served straight away-next guy in the door asks me and the man waiting patiently next to me if we are in the queue-after being told that yes we are waiting to be served- you guessed it ,the girl on the till looks up and serves him and he quite happily walks in front and places an order. Almost as if me and my fellow customer are invisible. Appalling customer service, no regard for waiting customers who queue patiently, rude patrons. I shook my head at the staff, left, and went to the shop round the corner was spoken to politely and served straight away. Will not be back at the Fountain advise others to avoid it unless you enjoy a long wait for your supper.

We regularly send out for takeaways at work. Today was Fountain. And none of the five meals had any flaws. Decent size portions, great chips, fritters, sausage and king rib. Even the curry sauce was lovely. Will be back.

The Fountain has recently been taken over and has the best fish supper for miles around, all fish is cooked to order and tastes better for it. The staff are very friendly and always have time to chat to you. When in Coatbridge don’t go anywhere else for your fish supper.

Went in the fountain I order gammon with batter n chips is great food I am satisfied to eat oh lovely gammon is big circle batter I eat wipeout great my tummy is full so I still come back Deffo next time when I in Coatbridge ok so give them 5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 👏 If you n partner try go it worth it fabulous love it 👍 👌

Called for home deliver of a price special g st supper .2pickled eggs and 4 picked onions ..being first n the queue for delivery ...,I was looking forward to my fish supper fish was nice chips where cold and claggy ...on just eat price was £6.90 for supper but on delivery price was £7:50 and nearly fainted when looked art the price of eggs and onions was £2:90😠 in fact the only thing worth it's money was the delivery charge of £2. Will never order again used to be a brilliant shop😤😤😤😤😤😤😤

Kids meal. £3.50. The pic below and a 10p packet of Haribo. Imo pretty bad value when Roberto's in gartlea do the same size kids portion only sausage is a little smaller for £2. Maybe do smaller sausages for the kids meal and reduce the price as it's no way worth £3.50. Fairs fair though. Can't fault the chips or the sausage. Both were really nice. Especially the chips.

Heard the shop had changed hands and stopped in tonight for a fish supper. Hadn't been in for a while but really enjoyed it - best fish supper I've had in a while. Fish was made fresh, got 2 big bits and plenty of chips to go with them. Staff were all very good, girls who weren't serving were cleaning, shop was spotless and had a new feel about it. Thumbs up from me, my new local for Friday night tea.

I haven't been here for a long time, the food fell short of my expectation. Thought I would give it a try as the shop is under new management, I was not disappointed. Good service, crisp batter, lots of chips and a very reasonable price and in the words of big Arny " I'll be back".

Popped in to the Fountain Takeaway 2 evenings ago and was surprised by the whole experience. The ladies who have served in this establishment over the years have always been cheerful welcoming and very chatty, this is still the situation. The man who was frying was similarly pleasant and talkative. The real surprise came when I took home the fish and chips, which were freshly made as I waited. The taste was unbelievably good. The chips were perfect and I can honestly say that the fish was the best that I had ever tasted. Brilliant.

I have just had a floppy fish, grey limp chips, all cold, and a limp sausage. The Smoked sausage got the one star as you could hardly go wrong with that. Took an hour and a half to get here, and was hardly fit for consumption. I have had great chippys before from here, but it is spoiled by the delivery which is a nightmare. 9 times out of 10 they cant find my address or are very very late. Last time I will eat from here. A waste of £15 and a Saturday night ruined.

Our kids really like the sausage and chips from here, they think they're the best. They have a good choice of salads, baguettes etc aswell as the normal chippy food. Special fish is really good. Staff are really nice. Good quality food and reasonable prices....

Delivery took 2.15 hrs to arrive. I called shop twice to check on this was told the 1st time at the 1 hr mark mine was next out, was told the 2nd time the driver stuck in traffic this is unacceptable I think if you...

Just got home after a 12 hr shift and fancied a bag of chips traveled the mile and a half to one of the better chip shops in the area but was deeply disappointed 4.50 for a large bag of chips didn't have to wait long on them was in and out in less than 5 minutes noticed when holding the bag that they didn't feel that warn thought it was just me and headed back home took me less time to get home than it did waiting on the chips opened the bag as soon as I got in and they were cold some of them were hard struggled to get my fork into them the softer ones had a dry texture when eating them .not the worst chips I have ever had but far from what I have come to expect from this shop I am afraid they have let their standards slip .

This chip shop has been taken over - thank goodness. It is back to being one of the best. The quality of the food has improved and the taste is so much better. I will certainly be going here much more often.

Went to the fountain today for my lunch and my baked potato was lovely.. tuna was perfect.. the girls where all happy and very friendly... girl on the till is always happy and the chips where lush.. great customer service keep up the good work fountain. X

Lisa Marie makes the best spicy chicken wraps around (get the cheese is inside too) a solid 9/10...just what the doctor ordered to sort a bad hangover out!

Used to love this chippy, great value lunch deals with tasty panini so. Recently had chips and they were very greasy and not nice. Going elsewhere now.

fountain chippy is under new management and its went completely downhill IMO. foned ahead as i always do, told them baked potato with tuna n coleslaw, no bother,although guy was rather abrupt, goes in, woman asks if i want salad etc, i said yeah n re-iterated, tuna mayo n coleslaw, she didnt say a word, brought it round to the girl at the counter and the girl was going to wrap it in white paper like they always do and the woman went, no we dont wrap it, i opened the polystyrene tub n no coleslaw, n said, i asked for coleslaw n only then did she say, oh weve no coleslaw, had a problem with the fridge and it went off, i said, well you shouldve told me that on the fone and i wouldnt have bothered! and a guy got some fritters n ive never seen such thin ones in my life! and by the time i walked round the corner home, there was tuna all over my water bottle and the whole bag cos it hadnt been wrapped up!! been going round there for about 15 years but wont go near it again now!

We decided to try this place out to see what it was about, but meh, it could have been better i didnt really enjoy it the chips were greasy and the food tasted awful if this is the local taste, it needs to change!

Good food delivered rapidly. Wide ranging menu all well cooked. Chips dry NOT greasy, so that's even better. Good value for money. Would be even better if they had a website you could place orders on.Please note: this is a only a takeaway. You cannot sit in and eat a meal. There are no tables.

Always go here staff are friendly on the ball and always going out their way to get anything the customers need. The chips are the best I've tried and I know for a fact it's due to precise cooking and experienced eyes. Keep frying

In my family SOS is Stretch or Starve and with the fountain chips you had to be quick. Not these days though, that's twice now we have had suppers and just tonight a bag of chips and they were less than inviting. They look grey and oily. I rave about this place so please whatever it is your doing, STOP and do what yo used to do. I don't want to find another chip shop, I like it here.

Food is always good, never cooked and left in the warmer for ages like other chip shops it's always fresh. Chips are great and worth waiting for and the chicken in breadcrumbs never fails to please.

I have been traveling over 45 minutes each time to Coatbridge for an amazing takeaway now for over a year, I simple would not be happy with any other chippy!! Deciding what to have is my biggest task as everything is soooo good! The food is so fresh and tasty and the staff could not be more friendly. Portions are fab, I can never finish my meal no matter how much I'm enjoying it. Well done for the amazing food, service and consistency every visit. Roll on my next visit.

We very often find ourselves in Coatbridge visiting family or business and anytime we decide on Fish and Chips, the Fountain is always the first place we think of. Two fillets of fish and plentiful portion of chips. Staff very efficient and friendly too . Keep it up

well me my friends and wee scott_CFC all went down to the fountain for our wraps good place and good food only bad thing was my wee pal scott couldnt collect his wrap as he is too tiny cause his short stubby legs. then we had to lisetn to him moan WAWAWA its cold or WAWAWA too much vinegar. But overall its good

I thoroughly enjoyed the food at a good price but I had to get my friend arin had to give me a boost cause i'm only a wee shortbread and couldn't even reach up to my money

well where do i start.The food is qualitteeeyyy and there was a wee midget that blocked the door but i still managed to get in. The first sight was amazing the atmosphere was great better than Stamford bridge on a saturday

This is by far one of the best chippies I have ever been in. The food is always fresh and delicious, served by lovely, professional staff. There is no other around to compete with this "god" of a chippie.

On occasion the chips are very nice indeed but do vary. £3.50 for a large bag of chips is expensive! Tend to close earlier than the stated times at the door.

Small supper a roll & can of juice £3 certainly fills the gap whilst working,gd menu choice from fish to sausages they even do paninis.

What a great chip shop since Shona started managing it .portion sizes are so big you can feed a family of 3 .the staff are always friendly and very courteous nothing is a bother to them I would highly recommend this shop best in Coatbridge .From a very satisfied customer.

This chip shop is just the best around. The food is always fresh and the batter nice and crisp. The chips are lovely and if you have to wait - believe me it's worth it.

This chip shop has been getting worse for years, last night finally made up my mind never to return, if there are paler looking chips out there I would like to see them, I had never had a "king rib" before and I hope I never will again, on previous visits the fish, pies and black puddings have all been tried and found sadly lacking, most of the staff are nice but at the end of the day you're in there for something to eat.

Went in for a bag of chips and the girl servin was caked inn make up Not just a little but enought go do the weather girls!!! Not only that but the chips where that greasy they stained my good ben Sherman shirt. I will never go near the place again unless I'm in my work clothes. Anyway I still are the chips as I hate waste So if u are a hungry hippo like me you will ul it hehehe

Went back in to see if it had improved.Atmosphere was excellent.Service was superb and the takeaway was magic.Will be returning here again.

The chips are very poor. Expensive chip shop. Not a customer focused shop. Small hard chips. A waste of money. Standards have dropped dramatically.

Went here for food today and thought it would have improved since last been there but defo not, the women that work there did not look happy at all, and what i dont get the women that took our money had rubber gloves on and then touched the food after taking the money so whats the point The chips were not that good but the other part of the meal was lovley, The juice i was shocked at for a can its like 90p but in the fridge some cans say 3 for £1.00

After the huge price increase I expected great things, Boy was I disappointed!! 2 small fillets of fish which was more batter than fish and I wouldn't say an adequate portion of chips. It was daylight robbery. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT I normally go to Robertos in Airdrie why didn't I on this occasion. The owner is so miserable and why do the staff wear gloves, they touch the food being served, then take your money and use the till. Poor hygiene standards this is one establishment that most definitely won't be getting any future business from me. A tip to anyone stay in the car and drive to Airdrie quality, standard and cost not comparable...

We were very let down over the quality of the carry out we had from the Fountain Chip Shop recently.We had 3 Special fish suppers, which were lacking fish but had lots of breadcrumbs. We all wondered if these were actually haddock and not something else to cut costs.....One of our party had Scampi which was nice enough. He also tried the fish and was very disappointing at only being able to taste breadcrumbs.First we have been to the Fountain Chippy for a good few months.... now we wont be there again!!

Ive got take away out here couple times and sometimes is good or bad but the chips and chicken tikka wraps are lovely. The portion size is very small and i don't know how they get away with it at the prices they charge.The 2 girls that are on the checkout seem to have gloves on when handling food but use the same gloves to take money so thats one point in bad hygiene

This was a great chippy takeaway but now the portions are very small and the chips are like reheats.Once great service but a continual merry go round of staff and small, bad food has ruined this chip shop.

although this chippie sells more than chips, recently felt it slacking a bit!! Come on guys.... One thing that is great is the chicken tikka wrap, toasted! yummmmmmmmmmeeeeee lol

Would highly recommend the takeaway food from this fish and chip shop, because its usually busy the food is freshly cooked. Staff are always friendly & provide a quick service. My only negative feedback would be that the portions of coleslaw/curry sauce are too big, hardly seems like something to complain about but its offputting getting half the container full of coleslaw (which is only wasted) instead of chips, very minor point though.
