This place is under new management and they are doing a fantastic job. Sunday roast was delicious (the best I have had in the area) and offered excellent value. The team are extremely friendly and have created a really welcoming atmosphere in the heart of Plumpton Green, including for families. Great to see this place busy, serving very good food, and delivering such brilliant service.

This village pub is under new management and what a turnaround. It’s become a really friendly, cosy place with a great atmosphere. They are beginning to serve food now and the Sunday roast was superb. Can’t wait for the extended menu to arrive.

The Fountain was the venue following my husband's memorial service and we could not have had a better experience. We had no idea how many people were coming but Annie & her team provided plentiful amazing food, the service was first class and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect. Thank you so much - it was brillaint!

We have visited the Fountain several times now since the new landlords arrived and the food and service has been consistently good. They do a good range of burgers which are well worth a try and their Sunday lunches are also very tasty. We were particularly impressed that they offer the full menu on a Sunday and not just a roast dinner. The service was very good and in our opinion the only way it could be improved is if they provided a few games for children to play while waiting for their meals.

We visited this gem of a pub first time for a themed Italian Evening. Lovely welcome, interesting selection of dishes, worth just a little wait, because everything is freshly prepared and home-cooked - and it shows in wonderful taste and presentation. A fine drop of wine and (so my beer-drinking friends tell me) a great pint are always available. While we visited primarily for the food, the pub oozes that friendliness of a lively "locals' pub", and I'm sure we would enjoy the Fountain Inn also for an after-walk pint or two.

Where do I start with such a amazing pub! The food is mouth watering and always served with passion. But what really makes this pub the best pub around are the owners, so polite and always up for a chat! If your in the local area I highly recommend you stop for a pint!

We paid a visit to The Fountain as we were staying locally. It seems to be a ‘locals’ pub, which is certainly not a bad thing (after all these folk are the bread and butter of pubs), but to have bar staff chatting to those at the bar, and therefore ignoring you when you’re waiting to buy a drink isn’t great. We ordered food (pizzas) about 5 minutes before the kitchen opened. Service was slow; we waited for 50 minutes for the pizzas to arrive, and our starter arrived at the same time, we then waited a further 10 minutes for the final pizza to arrive (the order was wrong apparently). The pizzas weren’t anything special, although the breaded halloumi was good. All in all, it was ok, but we won’t be rushing back.

The website for this pub looks great, but the reality is not so good. There were areas which looked neglected: we thought of sitting outside but there was scruffy garden furniture piled up outside the door. The guy serving drinks was doing so while on the phone and service was slow. We had gone for lunch not fancy the food as a result of these things so left after just a drink.

The main problem with the Fountain is its inconsistency. My husband and I went there for a meal recently and it was very poor. The service was appalling, we waited an hour for our food. When it arrived it was only lukewarm but as we'd been waiting so long we didn't send it back. The food itself was ok but nothing special. I had pork belly roulade, allegedly with creamed mash potato but there were huge lumps of potato in it. Not what I'd call creamed or mashed! The serving staff are always young girls who don't seem to know what they are doing. We ordered two glasses of cabernet sauvignon and one of them brought us two glasses of white wine! Having said all this, the time before when we ate there we had a lovely meal with prompt friendly service. Hence my heading of inconsistent - you just don't know what you're going to get. It's just a question of whether you want to chance it or not.

My husband, daughter and I ate here recently. There were a few people outside enjoying the evening sunshine and having a drink, but only one other couple eating and they finished almost as soon as we arrived. The food was sound enough although the portions were very large. My husband ordered the gammon with duck eggs and said that the eggs were fantastic, but he was put off by the numerous slices of cold gammon which he could not finish and thought that a gammon steak would have made for a much better meal. My daughter has a good appetite but could not eat all her sausages and mash with huge crispy onion rings. I managed most of a nice steak with really delicious peppercorn sauce and more of the huge crispy onion rings. Chips were good but overall there was just too much food on our plates. A bit less would have been more appetising. The lack of any other diners did create a lack of atmosphere, although we still enjoyed eating out together. Would we return? Probably not. Not that the food was bad-it was mostly fine-but we were a bit underwhelmed overall.

Monday at about 1pm in heavy rain we arrived to this pub and found only two men sitting in the window seats, we were given a very warm greeting by the young man behind the bar.We were shortly followed in by a big number of men - we didn't know it was a racing day at the nearby Plumpton racecourse! It shortly became quite noisy as the men were all laughing, joking and talking loudly but as soon as they all left - about 1 hour later, it went nice and quiet again! The TV was also on quite loudly with the races, which made conversation difficult for us as it was quite close to our table, luckily this was also turned down when they left, thank goodness! There are two big armchairs to the left as you come in the only door into the pub, which are by a lovely big open fire and this was set alight when we came in and the smell was gorgeous! To drink we had a diet coke and a large glass of rose wine - there was a choice of two by the glass, I had the Spanish, which was quite nice.We took menus to one of the tables in the area to the right of the bar. There was a good choice of many things like sandwiches, cooked meals and starters, also specials on blackboards above the bar and in the area we were in.We decided to have a steak and ale pie which came with a choice of chips or mash and veg and a starter bowl of nachos, which are given as a sharing option on the menu but I decided to have as a main instead. It was quite a long wait for the food but this was, I think, due to the number of orders that suddenly came in almost altogether but it was worth the wait. The food was really tasty.Hubby had the steak and ale pie and there was a homemade looking top of pastry and a very generous amount of meat in a tasty gravy style sauce around it and tasted mildly of ale, there was also a little jug of different gravy that was on the plate. The chips and veg were also good, the veg was courgettes and onions, underneath the pie. This was £9.95.I had the nachos, which was an enormous portion! For £6.50 (as I had the pulled chicken added), they were homemade and gorgeous with melted cheese on some, good mayonnaise, guacamole - really lovely, tomatoes and some mild chilli slices. The chicken was super too. I really enjoyed this bowlful.Service was excellent considering how busy it was, we were automatically given a tab and the man came soon after we started eating to check everything was alright. When we wanted another drink he also bought them to the table instead of making my husband wait at the bar.We had a very nice lunch here. My one complaint would be that the toilets are reached by going outside, luckily the walk to them is covered but it's still outside and on a cold and rainy day, like today, it wasn't so good!

Wanted to get out of Brighton for the day so decided on a little magical mystery tour around the Sussex countryside, didn't really care where we ended up but just went in search of somewhere new and hopefully find a half decent Sunday roast. On a whim we stopped at The Fountain Inn.Got to admit first impressions weren't great. There were just a handful of customers in the pub, stark bright LED lighting and the local radio station playing... it didn't exactly meet our expectations of a warm, cosy, country pub atmosphere... But the barman gave us such a warm genuine welcome that it would have been extremely awkward to back out now.We both ordered the Beef roasts and had our pick of tables, choosing to sit quite close to the log fire. Nice enough but again the lighting is too stark... we sat down and once again feared if we'd made the right choice. I mean with only one other table eating, just how bad is this food going to be?The food came quick, but not suspiciously quick where you wonder if they are making full use of their microwave. Presentation was nice enough and looked a good sized portion. With big fat slices of pink beef. Now normally I prefer my beef to be fairly thinly sliced, as unless it's a good cut of meat, you're going to be chewing for hours. I feared the worst... This wasn't a good cut of meat, it was a bloody fantastic one! Melt in the mouth good. The veg, gravy and homemade Yorkshire were just as tasty. A solid 9/10 roast without a doubt. So we put our hands up, we got it wrong. I'm glad we stopped, really glad.To be fair to The Fountain we suspect they do a much earlier trade and at 3:45pm when we went in they were already winding down for the day. So the lack of atmosphere was probably to do with our timing. As I just refuse to believe that a pub with roast as good as these, isn't extremely busy during the day.Sorry we misjudged you, we enjoyed ourselves. Get some warm LED's, swap the radio for your own choice of music and it would be 5/5 easy.

I went for lunch with my daughter. Very friendly welcome. Food was delicious, I had pork and mustard pie which was the best pie I had eaten for years! My daughter had steak which she asked for blue and which actually came out cooked as she had requested! With regard to the previous comments about slow service - yes it did take a little while for the food to arrive but this was obviously because the food was freshly cooked, and was well worth the wait. Will definitely be going there again.

The service was a little on the slow side given that we were the only customers that they had for Saturday lunch. However, it was the food that was the real disappointment to the extent that it made us wonder whether the reviews which have given this pub 4.5 stars are genuine. The fact that we were the only customers for Saturday lunch speaks volumes.

3 of us ate here the other week, we arrived early in the evening so there was plenty of seating availability. We were seated by the gentleman at the bar, who took our drinks orders and brought us the menus. There is a limited selection of starter choices and I could not eat any of them, so we went straight to mains. After our drinks were served, the gentlemen came and took our orders, 2 of us had the Fish and Chips and 1 had the house Burger. As it was still quiet the food did not take long to arrive, and came as ordered, to suit our individual preferences. The food was nice, all hot and tasty, so no complaints there, so far so good. After our mains we felt we should like dessert, by now the staff had changed to some young ladies serving at the bar,and they seemed far more interested in the - admittedly attractive- young men who had come into the pub and were seated at the bar. So after quite a wait, and trying to get their attention to request a dessert menu we eventually had to go and help ourselves. As it became clear that we would not be getting any more waitress service that evening, we went to the bar and placed our orders.Desserts- when they arrived- the bar was much busier by now with people eating, so the kitchen had slowed up a bit from earlier on- were ok,a Panacotta, and a Chocolate Brownie chosen by my friends were enjoyed greatly, my Raspberry Millefeuille was disappointing- firstly they had run out of Raspberries, so I was offered Strawberries, which was fine as I like both, but when it came it wasn't Millefeuille -pastry leaves-at all just 3 small shortbread biscuits with some cream between them and a few chopped up strawberries, it was ok but not what I had hope for. After another fruitless attempt at getting someone's attention, we eventually headed back to the bar to ask for the bill, which seemed to throw them a bit, but eventually we did receive it.Overall the bill was about 50.00 for 3 mains, drinks, and 3 puds,-Mains were around 10.00 each, and desserts about 5.00 and unusually for us, we did not leave a tip, as we felt the second part of the evening was let down by the lack of service, which is a shame as its such an easy thing to get wrong, having managed bars and pubs in the past, I am all to aware how a simple bit of training and service can go a long way to improving the customer experience, and ultimately get the business good feedback, as it is, I would not rush to return here,or particularly recommend this pub, though I believe my friend had a better experience at lunch time.

Having seen this pub on Trip Advisor we decided to pay a visit yesterday, along with our friends. Although 20 miles from where we live it was a nice ride through the countryside to get there. Unfortunately there was only 5 others in the pub for the whole of the lunch time consequently there was no atmosphere. The menu was very restricted but on seeing someone with a fresh pizza we all decided to have the same. It was fresh and tasty but we thought a little on the expensive side for the size.. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner, attentive but not over powering! We would probably have given it another try when the weather was warmer and more people about but as the owner is moving on we will read the reviews when new owners take over, then decide.

We stopped here for drinks early on a February Monday before going on to Plumpton Races and were impressed by the welcome and swift service. It seems to be a popular local hostelry and serves meals at what looked like very reasonable prices. Its only competition in the village of Plumpton Green closed down some time ago but wasn't very good anyway, and we will return here now that the Races are back after the summer break. Last Sunday they had welcomed a coach party so we went straight to the racecourse but we will certainly return for the next Monday raceday in October.

I today visited this pub with a party of elderly people. The new owners have done an excellent job in revamping the interior and the outside area at the front is a welcome addition. The menu offers a good selection of pub classics all priced about £6 to £8. However, my group were offered the pensioners special which is almost anything from the menu at £4.95!! This offer was taken up by all but one of my group. The meals were clearly the same size and quality as the full price versions and represented astounding value. Presentation was superb and all of my group loved every mouthfull. I, as the driver, was treated very kindly by the landlord and we were all made to feel very welcome. The big surprise came at the end of the meal when the whole group, including myself were offered a generous portion of delicious cheese cake on the house! Brilliant! When we left, the landlord came to wave us off. I always ask the group their opinion and I was told this venue MUST be added to our list and asked for a return visit as soon as possible. In closing, I should mention that all food is cooked to order (and it shows in the quality) so do expect to wait for about 30 minutes - well worth the wait. Well done, Chris!!

I popped into this pub for lunch last week as I happened to be passing, and I discovered it had only been open a week after a major internal refurb, so as you would expect the place was clean tidy and fresh. The menu was a bit of a disapointment as the only starters available was soup of the day and they had no deserts or coffee/tea to follow. However the prices refelcted this and with main dishes at £7 its great value for your money. We did have the soup which was hot and very tasty followed by 2 mains dishes which were equally as good. The owner who I later found out was called Chris could not do enough for you and really made us feel welcome particualrly when I made an off the cuff comment about preferring my Chilli a little hotter, he returned a couple of minutes later with some hot sauce for me.The toilets were in a block next to the main pub so I feared the worst when I had to pay a visit, but to my great surprise they were very clean airy and well stocked. The million dollar question is would I return again, and the simple answer is yes, for the quality service alone, but you must accept that the meniu is very limited. The owner did tell me that all produce is locally sourced including his fish which comes from the nearby port of Newhaven but this is not promoted in the pub or on their web site, so I think the owners are missing a trick here.

Passed by the Fountain on the way back from Lewes and decided we would book lunch for the following Sunday. Living in Henfield, its hardly round the corner but it was well worth the drive. The landlord was what a landlord should be - welcoming, jovial, chatty but "not in your face". A rare breed these days. The roast was well presented with vegetables cooked properly (not soft and mushy), the potatoes roasted to perfection and additional gravy supplied. The pork was tender and tasty and the crackling just right. It tasted like the roast you would cook at home for yourself. None of that mass produced quality to it. There was ample food without it being too much but left enough room for desert which was "on the house!" Very good value including 4 drinks and coffee, it came to £30.00.The pub had a lovely original feel to it and although refurbishments are soon to take place, I was pleased to hear that the layout will remain much the same.We will return in the very near future. If only this pub was in Henfield or if the landlord took over the George, Henfield would have a thriving, busy hotel instead of the disaster it has been for the past few years!

To my knowledge this is now the only pub in Plumpton. The interior had a homely feel which included a real fire and patterned carpet. Service was prompt and staff were friendly. As a Young's pub, both Ordinary Bitter and London gold were available on cask. The barrels for both were changed during my visit and my glasses of Ordinary was tip-top. Beer is cracking (although I do question the high price a pint considering the brewery is walking distance away!) Nonetheless, remains one of my favourite ales. The food however has nosedived since we last visited a few months ago. They used to offer really good toasted sandwiches, fish fingers, chicken and bacon etc with chips, which nice and pretty reasonably priced. I was disappointed to see these gone from the menu and instead, plain Sandwiches offered (which I think are around the same price, cost cutting maybe?) Anyway, my wife has the salmon and cheese Sandwich and I had a steak pie. The steak pie, brought in and not made on site, was one of the worst I have ever had, all pastry and sauce, spot the meat. My wife's sandwich has the cheapest looking sliced bread going. Apparently it's from a local bakers...if it was, it's a crap bakers. All in all, food not as good as it was, bring back the toasted sandwiches/baguettes as they were SO much better. Won't eat here again if that menu and the quality remains the same. Good place for a pint still.
