What a wee gem of a place, defiantly be back, super tasty food, great friendly service

I work in hospitality and this is probably the worst service I’ve experienced in over 30 years. Dined alone so not sure if I was just forgotten about , I was in no hurry , but waited 30 mins on a drink another 20 minutes on starter, had to ask where it was, then ordered wine which never arrived, another 30 minutes wait on main. Absolute shambles , whilst waitresses were cleaning, eating and talking amazing most themselves . Food was ok nothing special , seemed decent from other reviews so that’s why I went maybe I hit an off night but would not recommend or return

Pre match fish and chips and a couple of beers. The staff were lovely and an excellent place to watch six nations.

The drinks are surprisingly reasonably priced considering the area. Would rate higher but I haven't had food yet. If you're wanting a place to hang out before or after the nearby cinema I really recommend it.

Went in for a drink and to get our pup used to busy environments. The MOST dog friendly environment I have ever been in !

Excellent bar and great food..... we were in to watch the rugby on a Saturday afternoon, we booked a table in advance just in case and it was great. Both mains we had were fantastic and the drinks were good too. If we had one fault, it was some of the bar staff not doing the easy bit. We had to go to the bar all the time and they seemed like they couldn't care less. "Just our opinion".... there was what looked like a manageress girl who was lovely and working hard. We'd definitely go back 👍👌

Went for lunch yesterday, great service and food was excellent. Fish and chips were delicious and the fish were massive. I had the roasted parsnip soup which was very tasty. Lovely and clean bar, great decor and lovely staff. Would 100% recommend 👌

Had a fantastic meal here. Was pleasantly surprised. Really handy place if you were going to the cinema or bowling across the road. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were all very friendly. Haggis pakora for starter were phenomenal. Best version of it I've had. Cool touch with the Irn Bru hot sauce, too. For the main, i had the butter chicken pie. This was also really very tasty, good quality curry that you could tell had been cooking for a while. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.

Enjoyed their fish and chips although I felt the batter was a bit thick. Also the mushy peas were more crushed than mushy. Lovely pint of Joker.

Sunday lunch was just delightful. Not what you expect eating Sunday lunch out as there’s usually something poor about the dish but everything I ate was just one tasty bite after another… their gravy is to die for! Super pet friendly our little sausage dog was made to feel just as much of a guest as me and my boyfriend were <3 Super friendly servers also!

We had a Christmas Eve dinner at this cosy place. We pre-booked the dinner and it was easily organised. When we arrived, the staff welcomed us and started serving the dinner. We felt very relaxed and enjoyed every single bite of our food.🌟🥂

A great bar with a nice atmosphere. The music is at a pleasant volume and you can still have a great conversation. The bar is clean. Dogs are allowed and are also well looked after!

Very nice place. Cocktails are amazing. Food are really tasty. The service was really good and friendly but we would have appreciated if someone had told us that 10% tip was already included. For foreigners, check your bill before adding tip

One of the best pubs in the whole UK. Food was extremely tasty, fell in love with their soup… The pub is cozy, warm and welcoming. Service was excellent, the waiter was super friendly and helpful.

Stopped in here for some food and drinks before heading to a gig last night, very pleased we did. Such a lovely pub, everyone was so friendly and helpful. The food was great and reasonably priced. The brisket loaded fries in particular were gorgeous. Would definitely come back the next time we're in the area ☺️

Had two tasters before getting a pint of IPA .

Food was decent but the beer options and quality was exceptionally poor. Baltic IPA tasted like a Christmas scented candle that had gone off.

Brilliant place for a meal before heading out. Fantastic atmosphere and great service. Milly and Mina were brilliant and were good craic. Definitely be back!

This was the best roast we've ever had and the staff was great! We happened to stop in and caught trivia, which was also fun and the atmosphere was fun.

Bar staff are blind as hell. No customer service skills at all. Girl on the bar took over 10 minutes just pull one pint of Guinness.....beyond a joke. Tried speaking to the girl on why I was upset with her service. She sniggered and gave a bs "sorry". Explained to the manager why I was annoyed and he just replied with "she's new and still trying to learn" being new doesn't give you a free pass to be disrespectful. Try hiring adults not kids. Common sense finishing serving your original customer before moving onto something new or someone else.

Very dog friendly to the poont am pretty sure they'dlove a pub full of dogs over people! Very friendly and nice atmosphere and food great. Def not a traditional pub but a modern one- a good modern one. It can get very busy at weekends so booking might be an idea

The venue is fun! The service was courteous, the dogs were adorable, the music was pleasant, and the quiz night was enjoyable. However, the beef patties in my burger were rather flat, while the french fries were excellent.

Update many years later: they are still as great as before. And dog friendly. Delicious food, nice atmosphere and waitresses really kind. I have been here for lunch, and prices were affordable. Highly recommended

Chill vibe with super friendly & flexible staff

Everything was fantastic: pleasant and friendly environment, impeccable service, excellent food. I had two very good types of cask ales, a simple but very good tomato soup, and a very good battered haddock (although with few fried potatoes and peas). Spacious and welcoming, also recommended for large dinners.

Lovely pub, service was great. Only problem was a persistent aroma of urine. Other than that it is a very quaint pub especially when other pubs aren't serving booze after 10pm.

Nice all-round pub, pleasant atmosphere. Terrible bar stools though, I'd rather sit on the floor! There's food too, which I haven't tried. Don't expect a big selection of beers, just the basics.

Came in for a catch up drink with a friend. Staff we were really unwelcoming and didn’t care of their attitude. Was just rude.

Sunday Roast Beef with Sweet Potato and coconut soup to start. Top quality. Lovely interior and great friendly service. Good selection of beers, wines and spirits. Wee bit pricey for the Sunday roast but hey you get what you pay for. Highly recommend.

Good food very friendly staff good value for money will go again

We absolutely love this place! We were staying just down the road at the Hampton Inn and it was just a quick walk to this fabulous spot. We had the bone-in beef pie and it was so tender and delicious that we had it two days in a row, along with the croquettes. The Bang bang cauliflower was Delicious and way more than we thought it would be.

Excellent pub. Great food and selection of drinks. Can be a bit busy and finding a seat a difficulty... but you can normally book ahead. Also, the folk who drink here are normally very accommodating and many a chat has been had with a person we ended up squeezing on the end of their table.

The staff recommended the peppercorn sauce, and it was really delicious.

First impressions weren't great, a fairly characterless place, which almost makes a Weatherspoon's seem full over charm. Decided to stay for 1 as was passing by, however never even managed to place an order. Gave my girlfriend a kiss as waiting for some service, and was swiftly told by the barman that they don't accept this kind of behaviour! Apparently this is due to kids being allowed in. To be honest he seemed the kind of guy who is still looking for an opportunity to experience how they are made. Anyways if you are looking for a benign environment with disgruntled service this is the bar for you!

Nice place to get food and drinks. We came here with friends before going to the movies, left feeling satisfied and buzzed from the cocktails we ordered.

We had a group of about 30 meeting up for snacks and drinks. They were incredibly accommodating and responsive, friendly and had a perfect set up for our group to mingle. Apps were hot, tasty, and prices were great. Thank you so much, Tiegan!

A last minute decision that paid off. On entry the bar was packed, my mistake for booking during 6 Nations. However, it was a great mistake. We got our table and ordered our food. The rugby atmosphere added to the experience. The food was absolutely amazing. Not to belittle the pub in anyway but this food you'd expect from high end restaurants. I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back again.

This place is not far from where I live and every time I go, I keep telling myself I need to revisit. The interior has a unique blend of modern and classic. I mean, it looks classic but feels modern. The drink selection is okay, and the menu isn’t huge, but everything I’ve eaten there is delicious. I highly recommend the loaded haggis fries. A perfect Saturday afternoon dish after a wild Friday night. The Sunday roast is very good too. My favourite thing about here is the staff. I’ve only been a handful of times so I don’t think I’ve ever been served by the same person twice, but every single encounter I’ve had with the staff was professional and friendly. I went there with some friends this evening hoping for a nice quiet drink, but I forgot about the football match that was taking place (the bar is quite close to Hearts stadium), so the bar got really full, really fast. I thought it might take forever to get a drink, but the bar staff went into full speed mode and I never had to wait long. I will endeavour to make this place “my local” because I’ve never had a bad time here. Great place, highly recommend

We have had two meals here: the steak and lamb specials. Both were particularly delicious. I was expecting good pub food. But the standard is substantially above that. Expect to thoroughly enjoy your meal.

We went for food to take our dog as it’s a dog friendly pub. Soon as we walked in we received a friendly welcome, the dog was given a drink, a treat and a stroke. The food was spot on and served quickly, the drinks good, nice surroundings, very clean toilets, great service - couldn’t fault it. We will return.

Food was instagrammably beautiful and tasty to boot. Wonderful service made us very welcome. Great find on our first day in Edinburgh and hope to get back before we leave.

Smart modern environment with a lot of good drinks on tap (try St Mungos by the West brewery). Nice atmosphere with a good social mix of clients. On top of that, I found on my first visit here that the staff don't mess around at dealing with problem punters, making The Fountain a safe environment.

A fantastic pub with great food, excellent staff and drinks. Couldn't rate it higher; I love the atmosphere, it's relaxed, modern and there are gluten free options available. They used to do an "Irnbru" cocktail, damn it was good -wish it could come back

A massive thank you to the doubtlessly underpaid, underappreciated members of staff who dealt with the old white guy, who had a dog & a walking stick, who loudly berated me for using the accessible bathroom and told me to leave, loudly (embarrassingly) drawing attention to how able bodied I seem.

Food and drink was good and the ambience as well. But at a some point (and it was not closing time) the waitress brought us the bill that we had not asked for, so we felt they asked us to leave, and it is weird because we were not told at the beginning that we needed the table at a certain time as we normally do, there were tables around in the same room (4) empty and we had booked.

I've been to the fountain a couple of times now. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxed, I enjoy the lighting and the mood here for some drinks. The food has always been nice too with a good selection of drinks available. The service can be quite blunt and direct, not rude or horrible, but not nice either, but that wouldn't stop me recommending the place or telling people to go here because its a nice pub ^_^.

This bar is an absolute gem of a place for both food and drink. I had the bone in beef pie such a generous portion and excellent value for money. Really friendly bar staff and a great place to meet on a Friday with work buddies or friends. Check this place out for sure :-)

The Fountain saved our business lunch Thursday 19th October 2023. thank you to them for sorting out our last minute reservation and letting the dog Monty in as well. the waiting room had failed to inform us that there kitchen was closed for the day. The Fountain were very accommodating, the food was amazing the service was top notch as well. the chef was only 24 and but his food was great. thank you to the Fountain for saving the day. :) :)

Well where do I start. I was here about a week ago , celebrating a friends birthday 🎂. It was a good sized table of maybe 12-14 ppl. Some of us were a little late, but the waiting staff were very patient and understanding . I ordered the steak and bone pie and my partner the crispy fried cod fillet. Both of which were excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our food and a little too much of Italian lager in my case. But my memory is of the staff being gracious, even to the drunk old man 😁. Very much looking forward to my next visit. Good pub near Fountainpark. Good selection of beers, very good food , the fish and chips was amazing, good staff. The price was the downside, too expensive compared to other pubs around the city. The interior could use a little redo.

One of the best pubs in the area, today's menu change gave a tasty twist to a familiar place. Staff are knowledgeable, even about flags! And very attentive.

I came to this very quirky and modern pub with my girlfriend, for some food and drinks. I got served by a young man by the name Tom, who was not only extremely pleasant but a complete credit to the company. He was very attentive ensuring we were fully satisfied. The pub is very well run, with a large variety of products and a perfect environment for some cosy food and drinks with your loved ones. I’ll definitely be back, could recommend this place enough!

My boyfriend and I went to the fountain today for a Sunday Roast, drinks and dessert. We also took our dog, on booking we requested a cozy corner in the bar area as our dog can be a little nervous in new surroundings but appeared very settled. We got a lovely warm welcome from staff and could not fault the food or cocktails. Would highly recommend and will most definitely be back.

I came here to watch rugby with friends. The staff were really friendly and accommodating, even came up to let my friend's dog and had a chat with us. The food was really good and so were the drinks. Nice chilled pub with great service and food. I'd come here again and recommend it to others.

Came down to watch the rugby world cup and it was a really great spot, our table was well placed, the sound quality was good and it wasn't too busy there was room to move around to the toilet or the bar. The food was good, we had the loaded fries which were great, the chunky fries were good and the chicken croquette salad was tasty but not the best value for money in my opinion. Drinks range was good, old mout cider was delicious, old town lager and Guinness.

Went to the pub with a group of friends for a pint. The place was empty, and all the bar man could say was,''We cannot host you." Strangely enough with the place being empty, we found seating. The staff were rude to my friend who drinking coke. Plus, the music was too loud for people to talk. No wonder the place was empty for a Saturday. Weird staff and vibe, avoid!

We book 2 weeks in advance for brunch menu and specifically wrote this on the booking. Turned up and told this menu wasn’t available with no prior warning, didn’t say anything and we order Scotsman loaded fries… they were greasy soggy and the haggis was burnt and peppercorn sauce was all at the bottom meaning that the paper stuck to the chips - was absolutely vile we didn’t even pay for them. Such a shame used to be a lovely pub

Great local pub, especially if you're a dog owner. We take our puppy in here with us for a pint and staff are always so lovely to him. Good selection of beer and malts and food is usually decent too
