We are staying in nearby apartments for god sake tell your customers to SHUT UP - its nearly 12:30 in the morning. BE QUIET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A York original, nice staff, nice cocktails.

Really cool bar with modern contemporary vibes and a nice relaxing atmosphere, decent selection of independent beers and all for a decent price! Would recommend!

Love the decor and the cocktails are brilliant, the girlfriend loves the spicy mango margarita here and the banana man is as close to a liquid banofee pie as you could get, I'm sure there's plenty of other great cocktails on the menu and the beer selection is usually great too.

Used to be great, unfortunately the staff are now rude, disrespectful and condescending. You work in a bar - get over yourself. We were insulted because of our lifestyle choices - which could be considered illegal. The young man behind the bar should be sacked and prosecuted. There’s no room in this world for such vile hatred. Safe to say that we’ll never return.

The best place for an amazing cocktail or a nice iced coffee! Staff is always super friendly, one of my favourite places in York!

The drinks and service here are the best in York. Cocktails are fabulous, especially the margaritas, that are made with so much love, care and attention. Beer is great, especially the Social Pale, Never ending Haze and Space Craft. Staff are friendly, warm and welcoming , especially Mini, Han and Sofia who we have come to know very well. We always feel at home here. Definitely would recommend, but don’t pinch our seat 😂.

Very nice Asian girl and extremely unfriendly another girl who sounded English. When I was ordering, I got no eye contact or any nice approach whereas the place was %80 empty so she had no pressure whatsoever.Afterwards, she got busy with eating her foods somewhere in the restaurant whereas they are still open and had some guests around. I kindly tried to asked to charge my phone only couple of minutes from the other girl but she rudely interrupted her and said they can’t help. So rude……. she should learn her job before she works for it.

Slow and rude service . Never again in this unclean place. The english girl provided a very rude and unprofessional service , she has nothing to do with guest service, eating in front of guests with her mouth open. This incident happened Sunday 21/07 at around 20:00 o’clock

Great place to have a coffee and a chat.

I have never been anywhere that serves 2/3 of a pint and I shall never again if it wasn't for my wife wanting a nice cocktail id have just left, they seem to have a lovely selection of beers but not in pints lol supposedly it's to save space 🤣🤣 I've never heard such crap. Bit of a let down so I'm of to Mickel gate social for a proper beer 🍻🍻

Quaint and cosy venue serving delicious drinks. Lovely ambience inside with some seats in a garden at the back of the venue. The staff are lovely. I had a delicious hot chocolate.

So glad we found this bar in the middle of a great area full of restaurants . We had the best cocktails ever made by a friendly guy who although busy took his time to make sure our drinks were fabulous and we will definitely go back next time we visit the city .

We used to live near this place a few years ago, and we visited Fossgate Social plenty of times for a coffee and a breakfast. It used to be jam packed all the time with buzzing atmosphere, great food and coffee. Today however it was empty which was surprising for Sunday midday. Coffee was ok, service as well, but they had very little sweet selection this time and the place wasn't the cleanest either. We sat on the outside and tables were covered in cigarette ash, and there was broken glass on the floor ( I guess) from the night before. Now I understand we might just entered in a very unlucky time and that's the reason for a little less positive experience. I hope it's still the same great coffee place as I used to remember

The member of staff with blue/green hair was lovely. Really friendly - thank you! She wished my friend a happy birthday and served us with a smile and a lovely positive attitude.

Had some absolutely lovely cocktails here. They do a superb spicy Margarita. the atmosphere is also really cosy. A nice little Bar in the heart of York!

I had a lovely experience at The Fossgate Social this past weekend during my stay in York. Nestled on what's apparently the best street in York for food and drinks, this little place had a real charm to it. As soon as I walked in, the staff were incredibly welcoming. It has a warm, indie vibe with comfy seating, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a solo coffee. Speaking of coffee, they have delicious speciality brews, but they also offer craft beers and cocktails, making it a great spot for any time of day. Overall, The Fossgate Social left a great impression. It's a fantastic spot to relax, enjoy a drink, and feel right at home. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're in York!

This is a quirky bar with amazing espresso martini cocktails. It's intimate but social, industrial but cosy.

Good bar, but quite pricey. The drinks were good, but 18£ for two cocktails this size was a bit too much for us.

Brilliant pizzas and gyros wraps, fast, decent selection of drinks. Surly and rude bar staff but maybe caught someone on a bad night.

Really nice feel to this bar cafe. I just went for a coffee, which was really nice and reasonably priced. Sadly though, it was understaffed, as I had to wait about 15mins to place my order, when there was no queue. I will definitely visit again though.

One of THE BEST places to get a drink in York. I was there yesterday (18th) and the day before (17th Dec) and had a great laugh with those serving. One tall guy (very handsome) and one very beautiful and fun woman who I thought was a student but was not. They had an incredible way with customers and the wine, beer and cocktails are superb. I'd encourage anybody who is visiting York to come here and their sister site, the Micklegate Social. An amazing experience. Thank you SO SO SO much. Xxxx

Brilliant little place. Friendly staff with good beer, cocktails and coffee. They don’t serve food but the Kiosk across the road does amazing sandwiches and they deliver it to your table. 100% have to try. Amazing chilled find amongst the hustle of Saturday night York. 10/10.

After having to pass a couple of coffee shops heading away from the city centre, we decided on this one, a somewhat random choice, but a good one nonetheless. Highlight for me was the delicious brownies ( by Brown & Blonde of Morley, Leeds). Facilities and ambience good. Would have given 5* if coffee hotter, however it seems to me the machines that make the coffee just don’t make it particularly hot, so no fault of the barista.

Popped in on way to train station for some brunch. Great place that serves nice coffee and the best Brie and Bacon toastie!

If you like a bit of space around you, you don’t want to be here but if you’re happy to get chatting with the people you’re rubbing knees with in your seat or you like the convo that follows excusing yourself as you awkwardly squeeze past then you’re in for a treat. Great little spot outside if you’re solo/couple and the rain holds off. I’d recommend being here for alcohol rather than coffee - there’s better equipped gaffs across the road for that. Enjoy!

On a week night this is a very sensory friendly space for neurodivergent adults. Low lighting, while still easy to navigate, and light jazz music. The fact the coffee machine is still in use throughout the evening also opens up options for those who want to go out while not feeling the pressure to drink alcohol

A rare child free night last night, we headed to one of my favourite old haunts, the Fossgate Social. Could always rely on it for a lovely, friendly atmosphere & great beer but unfortunately that is definitely no longer the case. Served my the most unfriendly and surley guy, even though the place was pretty empty he had no time to even say hello or any kind of chat. We were so friendly and polite but he was just rude and very condescending, he thought he was far to good to be speaking to us. really ruined the experience, I felt old and past it (I’m only 32!) . I’f rather stay at home with the kids if I’m going to be met with that kind of attitude! Will not be returning. The music was awful as well.

Lovely place with fun staff and great drinks!

Have been here a fair few times and usually good cocktails but had an espresso martini a few days ago and it was just awful. Something tasted really off about it and the head was super foamy (it had obviously had only been wet shaken and not also had a dry shake and strained). Could do with making sure all staff are properly cocktail trained as consistency is so important in making people feel sure they're going to get something nice when spending £9.50 on a drink. Went to Sotano's afterwards and had an absolutly amazing espresso martini afterwards for only £7.50 so that doesn't really add up.

This little place is a favourite of mine. Great for cocktails. Always a great atmosphere. Don't be put off if it looks full because there is an outside space and tables upstairs. They don't do table service so to speak, but they will bring your drinks to you once they're ready. Not mega expensive and they'll make pretty much any cocktail you ask for. They also have a good selection of wine and beer to pick from too.

Great vibes for coffee or cocktails. Lovely cakes too. The staff are always lovely and the outside space is a really nice way to while away an afternoon or evening in York with friends or meet up for a date.

We tried the Social before going to Marzanos for dinner, just up the road (also recommended). There was plenty of choice of tipple including numerous gins and a range of special tap beers. The seating is all a bit random and the whole place has lots of character. We were probably at least twice the average age of the other customers (we're 60) but that was fine. The music was pretty horrific - some sort of hip-hop rap stuff - but luckily not very loud!

Love it here, the atmosphere is relaxing, coffee and beer all day. They serve a great selection of drinks including their own York-made beer, Ice Cream Factory, which is really good. Their espresso martini is fantastic and a real treat!

Very nice and cosy in the little back yard. Unusual arrangement with hot savoury food,it came from across the road but was delicious. Staff very warm & friendly.

Perfect gluten free hot chocolate ( with almondmilk)

This is one of my local go-to bar/cafés. The drinks menu is extensive and all the food served is really tasty- the brownies served beside the bar are particularly nice. The staff are always happy to help and cheerful, even if it's busy. They also allow dogs in here, which is a massive bonus! The Fossgate Social has 2 floors and a pretty garden area out back, with lots of chairs and cosy corners throughout. However, it's not an enormous bar and it can get quite busy- so I recommend visiting on an afternoon or a weekday evening. Drinkwise, I recommend their amaretto sours, as they're divine!

The staff were really rude to us. Go elsewhere !!! They’re were showing off to each other behind the bar and had little regard for new customers. Needlessly aggressive ! I really hope this bar goes back to how it was. Management please speak to your staff!!!

The staff were so cold and unkind. We left really upset. No need to ever treat people like this. It was like they were on a night out behind the bar and had no regard for the customers. They were mocking and arrogant. So so sad - this used to be a lovely place.

For an alcoholic beverage or a tasty coffee, you’ll find both here. Topped off by the selection of cakes by T’art bakery of York. (Red velvet donut was perfection). a selection of inside, outside, upstairs and down seating but not ideal for larger groups. Enjoy!

Rude unprofessional staff, awful cocktails, dirty establishment. I walked in, asked politely if the amaretto sours was made from Disaronno, they replied no and suggested an alternative so as a change I asked for Espresso martini and where the toilets were. My sister ordered our drinks and the other went to sit down- I don’t know if staff knew that my sister had sat down next to the bar but she heard them mocking us regarding the type of drinks we ordered and that we had asked for where the toilets was- very immature. The espresso martini was awful and too sweet and the red wine was unpleasant too. I don’t ever like giving poor reviews and want to give everyone the benefit of doubt but I think they were incredibly rude and need to be aware of their behaviour. Incredibly disappointing.
