A Lockdown takeaway treat. Never left a review in my life but this deserved one. We even rang up afterwards to complement the chef! Arrived to the minute at requested delivery time.Hands down the BEST Chinese takeaway we’ve had from Congleton! Fresh and didn’t feel ‘heavy’ afterwards as often with cheap takeaways. We had the fillet steak szechuan and chicken curry. All refreshingly unique compared to the usual takeaway fodder, and no more expensive than every other ! Won’t eat anywhere else after this! 5*.

Okay so I know we Brits love Cantonese (from Hong Kong) food not 'Chinese' food, and having lived there the food served in China is COMPLETELY different and fit only for a lunchbox on a building site.Go to a restaurant in China and order duck and you will be served the head, neck, feet and tongue only , no breast!! The forum has some great tasting dishes (I have not tried one yet that isn't rich in flavour and of decent size.My only complaint would be that the ribs were too watery once, probably because they are boiled first to make them extra tender. Maybe I just had them on a bad night because as mentioned I have never come away from there unsatisfied and neither have friends who dined with us.Nothing bad all all to say and highly recommended. As for the poster moaning about them employing young/student Brits instead more Chinese staff, get a life you moron, what's wrong with offering local kids decent employment. If you want to be swarmed by Chinese staff and stared at while you eat your food, sod off to China, there's miliions of them there. Andy C

Went here last night,I was really dissapointed with my starter. Ordered butterfly king prawns and when they came they were not as I had expected. They werent butterflyed and were deep fried in batter served with a sweet and sour sauce,so basically prawn balls.I did query them but the young staff had no idea and were not particularly interested. Because of my dietry requirements I had to remove the batter and leave the sauce,£6.50 for 4 prawns, disgusted to say the least. They should state on the menu that they are deep fried in batter as they do with the squid,Had I have known I wouldnt have orederd them, and I loathe sweet and sour. The rest of the meal was tasteless. Wont be going again, thats for certain.

Recently enjoyed a meal here with a group of friends. Restaurant was nice, clean & inviting. Staff were friendly & efficient. Food was tasty and enjoyed by all in my party. I did find my portion somewhat lacking compared to my meat eating friends. I chose the vegetable sweet and sour with added tofu. Besides the tofu and pineapple it was pretty much just sauce. Having said that it was still very nice. I also found either the chairs too low or the table too high on the large round group tables. I'm not tiny but maybe bare it in mind for petite people - perhaps bring a cushion or two! These criticisms are easily remedied. We found it very helpful that we were able to put our meals on personal tabs. On the whole i had an enjoyable meal & would certainly return.

I've been here a few times over the years and I must admit to a degree of disappointment on this occasion. The food is generally good without being exceptional but the service this time was extremely slow. When you walk into any restaurant and sit down, you would naturally expect someone to ask if you would like any drinks whilst ordering. Not here I'm afraid. That set the scene for the rest of the evening. The place was hardly full yet the staff found time to chat away near the counter.

I always get my takeaways from here and the food is always lovely, but tonight it was a birthday meal for 9 of us which I booked about 3 weeks ago, when we got there tonight they had only set up for 8, we ordered a round of drinks and they got one of them wrong, when we had another round of drinks they left the empty ones on the table so I ended up taking them back to the bar, are starters arrived which were absolutely gorgeous as the food usually is and when we finished the waitresses came to clear the plates and 15 minutes later the other empty plates were still there!! So I had to go and find a waitress to come and clear the rest of the plates!! The service was absolutely shocking but the food was gorgeous, there were a lot of young waiters and waitresses who in my opinion had not been trained properly!! I wouldn’t go there to eat again but I would still get my takeaways from there, get your act together forum as your customer service lets you down, hence the 2 star rating

We go here as a group from time to time. I have always found the food to be consistently excellent (adore the hot and sour soup). I would have rated it "Excellent" generally but, on occasions, the service can be quite slow. There always seem to be a lot of takeaway orders (and who can blame them?) which, at times, seem to take precedence. However, overall it's always a very enjoyable experience and there is always a good standard of New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (my favourite wine).

First visit last night after previously enjoying a takeaway. The restaurant is beautifully laid out and decorated. We love the round tables, so much better than deciding who is sitting at the ends! We ate from the early birds three course menu and all our meals were excellent. My personal favourite is chicken with black bean sauce and green peppers which was better than others I've had, it included a variety of other colourful veg. Service was very good, they happily boxed our minimal leftovers for one of us who had ideas for their last appearance next day. We got a choice of desserts or tea/coffee which rounded the meal off nicely. There's a very comfortable area to use for drinks/ takeaway waiting with a TV. Can't wait to go again and will recommend.

We do have take-aways on occasion from them but if you are looking for an early tea I wouldn't recommend as they don't open until 6.30pm and standard wait on say a Saturday night can be around an hour. When busy, whether you are in the restaurant or ordering in there is a bit of a wait but everything else is positive. Good pleasant staff and great food! Will return.

Our usual and favourite Chinese is closed for their annual holiday and we just happened to stumble across this one... We have just found another excellent Chinese restaurant. We got there at six pm as it opened as we hadn't booked due to not knowing our usual one was closed.. It was soon filling up fast by the time we left. The food was excellent, staff very friendly , very tasty and delicious flavours and we are fussy with our Chinese food...it has to be a certain standard to win us over ... But it was flavourful and plenty of it..the few minor things I could criticise was the portion of fried rice it was tiny but we didn't realise until we read the takeaway menu again thoroughly that there was a choice of of two sizes of rice having seen this we will adjust our portion accordingly next time.Beautiful decor, shame we had a dirty fork but it was soon swapped , would highly recommend, the ,sat niggle was watching two of the waiting on staff brushing the car park, although the car park was nicely kept it doesn't look good for waiting on staff to be clearing weeds and brushing up litter in their uniforms just before serving customers with food, I'm sure they hygiene rules were adhered to etc, but it doesn't look good. We will however be returning in the near future to try some new dishes

I've visited The Forum for 25 years since it opened, and my children loved it when they were little. After a few years away I went back and was hugely disappointed. The three owners were nowhere to be seen - has it changed hands ? No one serving was over 20 - I'm not ageist as long as the training is good, but there was no overseer for issues or complaints. The food was a misrepresentation of quality Chinese cuisine. Worse still the menu listed sizzling fillet steak which turned out to be long-boiled low-grade beef. After asking why I didn't have fillet steak the young polite waitress was sent back out of the kitchen to apologise, but that was it. A fairly embarrassing absence of management. What a shame.

We went to The Forum last Saturday night 16th April 2016. We reserved a table for 6.30pm and it was fairly busy when we arrived. We could see that a lot of food was being packed for "take away" orders all through the evening clearly putting pressure on the kitchen.Having said that, although we had a fairly lengthy wait between starter and main, this was probably a good thing. The starter portions are very large and a decent interval meant we were ready for another course by the time it came.We very much enjoyed our food. Many of the staff are young, probably students, but they were polite, attentive and seemed to be well trained.

Went in on Saturday evening with three work colleagues. So surprised to see a chinese restaurant with no chinese waiting on staff. Apart from the chinese lady rushing around, who I assumed to be the owner, all the staff seemed to be students about 16-17, and that is usually not a good sign. The waiter brought us the menus and we were disappointed to see it was more akin to a takeaway than a restaurant menu with its limited choice of starters and main courses. None of the dishes that we normally have in a chinese restaurant were available. It's the first time that I have seen a basic dish like egg fu yung on a restaurant menu ! We asked the waiter who was serving us, what he would recommend. He suggested sweet and sour chicken, crispy duck, beef chow mein, dishes that he liked. We asked him whether they could do chinese roast duck and a couple of tofu dishes that we normally have in chinese restaurants. The young lad who was serving us, went into the kitchen to speak to the chefs, then returned to inform us that they couldn't do any tofu dishes but could do the chinese roast duck.We ordered the duck, the special combo for four, crispy beef, kung po beef, steamed seabass, scallops in Ginger and spring onions and young chow fried rice. The prawns on toast had a high fat content and was off-putting and rather sickly. The seaweed was chewy and the spring rolls didn't have much content. The Seabass, although they claimed was fresh from the market, was definitely frozen and defrosted, as the meat was rather mushy and the taste that you usually get with fresh fish was missing. The scallops were also defrosted, as it had none of the fresh juicy taste to it. The duck in sweet soy sauce came and we were extremely disappointed and definitely not what we expected. It was deep fried, rather than roasted and didn't taste anything like the roast duck we normally have in chinese restaurants. The crispy beef in peking sauce, was more like tomato sauce and distorted the flavour of the beef. One of my colleagues, who spoke chinese, asked the lady, why the roast duck was deep fried instead of roasted and why the dishes were so different to chinese restaurants that we usually go to and she replied that they were only catering for the locals and not the chinese, which I found was rather a strange answer. We have travelled all over the world and eaten at some of the best chinese establishments in Hong Kong, China, US, Australia etc. This was disappointing ! Definitely, an anglicised menu. More Britnese than Chinese. If you want decent, traditional chinese food, this is not the venue !

We've eaten here on and off since the early 90s - and our latest visit was not a disappointment - there were three of us - myself, wife and daughter (age 20) - and we reminisced about my daughter's first visit here - aged about 3 months when her idea of good food was a prawn cracker to "gum" :)Wood topped tables - the round ones all had a "lazy susan" turntable, linen napkins and reasonable lighting - it was possible to see what you were eating. The food was delicious, hot and fresh. A complimentary bowl of prawn crackers with the drinks. We had the crispy combination for starters and my daughter had the crab claws, and for mains we had four dishes, crispy Szechuan beef, lemon and honey duck, char siu pork with cashew nuts and "silvershoots" (beansprouts with mixed meat - one of the chef's specials which I would strongly recommend) and sides of fried rice and noodles.Along with 3 beers and a couple of soft drinks, the bill was under £80 - not at all bad for the quality of food and service. In the words of Arnie "I'll be back".

On Saturday 27th February the family decided to order a take away meal from The Forum and for it to be delivered, something we had never done before. We ordered the meal at 7.20pm and was told it would take an hour we said ok, although we thought it was rather a long time. At 8.50pm we contacted them, as it was now an hour and a half, to be told it would be another 20 minutes. At 9.10pm we had a call from the delivery man to ask our address and 10 minutes later he still had not arrived, we are a mile and a half from the Forum, he arrived and apologised. We sat down for our family meal at 9.30pm which was not how we had expected to spend our evening.Felt the food was average when it arrived.

Upon unpacking our takeaway we realised the order was incorrect. We had asked for 2 large egg fried rice but only received one small fried rice despite the order being correctly read back to me over the phone. This was a family meal and as you can imagine one small rice between 4 was not enough! We love the food from here but this is not the first time this has happened to us!! They regularly get orders wrong so make sure you check the contents before accepting the delivery!!

Had a very nice family meal and evening here. Food was hot and tasty and service was friendly and attentive. Crispy duck one of the best we've had. Three mains, sides and a few drinks under £65It was our daughters birthday and they served a large ice cream with sparklers which was a nice touch. Thanks!

We have regularly eaten at the Forum, but this is the first review I have posted. The restaurant is always busy, but well spaced out and well ventilated. We went last week and again the food was excellent, service on the whole was good (apart from forgetting one of our main courses, but soon sorted it out). The only negative was that we sat next to the fire exit and it was very drafty. One of our party was cold and her food went cold very quickly. Other than that, great place for great Chinese food.

We decided on the spur of the moment to go out to eat last night. We arrived at The Forum without a reservation but there was only two of us and it was early so we got a table, no problem. We chose from the Early Bird menu which was good value although there was a supplement for king prawns. The service was very good and the food hot and delicious. All in all, a good experience.

Food was very good and service was good too - as usual. This is one of Congleton's two really good Chinese restaurants. The wine list has changed radically since last time I was there, and looks slightly better than before albeit slightly more pricey. But I was disappointed when I ordered what according to the list was a Spanish wine matured for several years (it stated the number of years, which was more than sufficient to make it a Gran Reserva): what came was a bottle of the same brand-name from the same vineyard but far from a Reserva it was a 2014 Joven! There was no argument about taking it away and supplying something more drinkable, but it was a disappointment, and I shall be checking what I'm brought in future.

We visited the Forum last week for the first time in years (as we no longer live in Congleton) and had a great meal. Very impressive, spacious and clean inside with a lot of improvements since we were last in and the food was spot on as always!

Good food and a wide selection with early evening options.A good welcome and charming staff although the young man took his eye off service and was easily distracted by not clearing tables or asking for deserts. However his inexperience did not spoil the evening and the Chinese food was splendid.Great décor and easy parking also helped. Will definitely visit again.

My first visit to the Forum. Front car park means great off street parking. Arrived at 6.45 as they had two large tables coming in and wanted to give full service to everyone. The food was good with many choices, starter wheel and duck pancakes made a wonderful beginning to the meal . I didn't feel rushed and the family enjoyed this resturant and it's friendly staff.

This was our first visit for some time and I am pleased to say the food was just as good as ever. The staff are friendly but at busy times need to be more aware when plates need clearing. Sometimes it appears that take away orders get preference over diners, but the food is excellent and we will certainly not wait so long for a return visit.

We ordered a takeaway from here as we haven't been here in so long. We're put off because of the outside as often people sleep on the porch and litter covers the car park. However the food was good and the sweet and sour chicken was a very good size. It was nice although it definitely isn't the best Chinese in Congleton.

Attentive service. Bit pricey, but the next step in quality down from The Forum and you'd have to take the lift to get there! Food hot when served. Never have had a bad experience in our several visits.

Recently visited the forum for the first time in over 12months. I must say I was slightly disappointed with the décor and surroundings - I would be pretty certain that this place has been taken over since my previous visit. The forum used to have a quite nice, ambient, relaxing atmosphere with nice décor. However on this occasion the restaurant was extremely bright (I think they must have had every light switched on!!) and we were eating of old wooden tables which weren't at all decorated nice with table cloths etc like they used to be. The experience of dining was a bit like sitting in yer grandmas living room on a Saturday afternoon in the 70s!!!. Bit of a shame really as the food was good and service was okWhen you want to go out for a nice meal at the weekend after a hard week at work you expect nice surroundings and a nice atmosphere, however I feel the forum has lost all of this charm, shame really :(

I booked this restaurant for my birthday. There were 25 of us. The owner text me and rang me before the booking to sort out all menus, dietary requirements etc. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely, the staff friendly and the whole experience was top class. It certainly makes a nice change for everything to run smoothly and have service where I can have nothing but praise for the staff and food. The restaurant itself is also well decorated and clean. Thank you and we will be visiting again very soon.

Staff where very helpful and flexible with my order, changing some items to suit my dietary requirements. Food was ready on time and was piping hot. However I was not blown away by it. I was expecting more from "Cheshire's best Chinese restaurant" nothing wrong with it but nothing to wow me and urge me to return.

First time back since the recent re-opening and very plesd that standards of food service and general welcome are very high. Menu has been simplified but still has all the favourites. For 4 people we had 2 starters, quarter duck with pancakes, 3 mains and 2 rice and there was plenty to eat. Bbq ribs were tender and fresh and duck juicy . Mains of king prawn chow mein( large plate ) ,sizzling beef and the best shredded chilli beef we had all tasted. Excellent service from Hannah and the rest of their team. Great to know you are back with a great offering - we will return.

Recently moved to the area and had noted comments on social media about the best Chinese takeaways around. We tried one a couple of weeks ago that got rave reviews but fell well short of expectations so we decided on Goomet this week despite some of the below comments. Our experience......delivered within 5 minutes of the requested time, food authentic as we like it (proper medium noodles not thin vermicelli type ones offered by another) great taste, hot, and two bags of prawn crackers, one ordered and I guess one free. No need to keep sampling now.....this will be our go to. John, no relation to this business.

Ordered prawn crackers and 2 chicken curry and 2 plain rice. Ready on time and got told prawn crackers came free. Got home and curry was a big portion and lovely sauce with freshly cooked chicken. It had a few mushrooms in which was not expected but fine for me.
