I'm not really sure where to start. But not good. Can't say I enjoyed it at all. The ribs were like eating a river of fat. I mean, seriously, no meat, just fat and dripping oil. Prawn toast was ok. The rolls ..meh The fryed rice had bits in it I can't explain... and looked more like boiled than fryed . The seafood was ok until we got to the squid, which was dreadful. Had to be spat out. Honestly, if you're going to charge a premium,..use fresh. Cantonese sauce that to be fair possibly would taste better out of the bottle it came in. Duck, that was burnt.. and where not burnt again... more fat It was just very expensive for food you would expect to be and probably better from a takeaway. Look, I don't give bad feedback lightly. In fact, I really don't like to do it at all, but I just can't in good conscience give a good review this time. Sorry And yes, I accept that it could be a one-off. The last time I came here it was great but this visit was terrible. Sorry. But 86 pounds on a meal that I really did not enjoy. Didn't want to make a scene, had kids with me , so I just paid it.. then again, at no point during the meal, did anyone even ask how it was.

Best prawn toast I've ever had. Sui Mai had so much flavour. Definitely recommend.

We can as a group of six and had a lovely round table in the comfortable restaurant which has nice atmosphere. We chose the banquet menu for six people at £25 per person. What amazing value… the food just kept coming and it was all absolutely delicious !! From the chicken and sweetcorn soup , the sharing appetisers , the delicious crispy duck, prepared at the table, and then the six varies dished with rice and noodles. The quantity of food made sure that we were well fed, but the quality stood out, freshly prepared with quality ingredients obviously , it was tasty and well presented The young team served so well, looking after all the customers with a smile and friendly service. All the team were great, but we noticed two of the young team with name badges, Jasmine and Theo, but all the team were excellent Thank you for making our evening special,

Just passing through and as was getting late stopped for a meal we were so impressed with all the young staff. One came over with a dish of prawn crackers which we returned as my husband has an allergy to seafood, which I did mention and they were taken away We at no time were asked had we any allergies, we ordered two vegetable spring rolls, two vegetable curries , one vegetable dish and rice. The waitress very professionally repeated our order, however we didn’t catch on to the fact that she did not say ‘vegetable spring roll’ So when two meat spring rolls came we had to return them. A very rude manageress came over and said that we had ordered them we explained that we were vegetarian and could not eat meat, we were brought fresh spring rolls. The food was first class we could not fault it , the service from the young staff was also first class. When we had our bill it was charging us for the meat spring rolls , which we had returned and also the veg spring rolls , the very rude manageress told us we would have to pay for them as well , as she said the waitress had repeated the order to us , we refused and all hell broke out , after some time she agreed that we didn’t have to pay for something that we had not eaten. A good meal spoilt by very rude manageress

Always excellent and great value

Honestly the best Chinese Restaurant I have been to, I would not go anywhere else locally for a Chinese meal. The Chicken and Sweetcorn soup is the best I have tasted and the main courses are always full of proper meat and crunchy veg and really tasty! I’ve probably been here over a hundred times for take-outs and dine-ins and have never left disappointed. The service is always spot-on with polite staff and the front desk for take-always is efficient and friendly. I look forward to my next visit!

Great find, loved our meals. Service was very efficient and friendly, good range of meals available and happy to 'adjust' to meet or our choices . Great range of wines and draught beers. A real bonus was the banana fritter desert. Nice atmosphere be it for a couple, family or group. Price was good too.

I am a bit biased because I go here every Thursday for Salt & Pepper ribs. The prawn toast is to die for, dim sum are good Har Gau and Sui Mai, I'm quite partial to the Szechuan Beef too. The staff are friendly and professional and give good service & all-in-all a very pleasant dining experience 😁

Well overpriced for average food. I ordered two Chow Meins with a portion of spare ribs to take away. I nearly dropped dead when I was told the bill was £33.30! Extortionate prices, I will not be returning.

Happy Garden was my go to Chinese when I lived in Congleton. Since moving away I haven’t been able to find anywhere that compares. I called in tonight as I was driving through and have to commend the excellent service, accommodating my special order, and food that was as good as I remembered it.

Food and service amazing as usual. Used this restaurant for over 30 years never disappoints 😋😋

Lovely venue for a restaurant. I had a basic takeaway of beef curry and boiled rice. I expected the price to be similar to other takeaways at around £8. But this was £12. Ok I thought, it's going to be better as it's more expensive. But it was no better than a decent £8 meal. If you visit this place, eat in and enjoy the experience it seems to offer. But for a takeaway, go elsewhere. Oh.. and I had to have 2 rounds of buttered toast afterwards to fill me up.

Hidden Gem of Congleton , overall great place for any occasion the staff are extremely friendly and the food was superb! Would Recommend.

We absolutely love this place, I have been here many times over the last 20 years, but just lately we just can't seem to stay away. This is definitely my favourite Chinese at the moment. The food is delicious, everything we try is fantastic. The service is good and the food comes out fast, to top it off its very good value for a sit in restaurant.

As usual, excellent food and service. Choose your time to go as a couple, as it can get busy and noisy when large groups come in.

Went tonight for the first time and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Well presented well cooked and plenty of it. The four of us were very pleased will definitely go again

The worst service i have ever had, talking about you loud enough so you can here. Over priced and bad food

When the food eventually came out it was at most average. Yes we were here as a group of 6 but an hour wait for starters them 50 mins once table cleared until mains came out is to much of a wait. Mains only came out after being prompted twice. Will not be going back again

Went for dinner with my husband and 2 wonderful friends. The restaurant has recently been refurbished to a really high standard. Food and wine was excellent and really good helpful staff. Had a brilliant night. Will definitely recommend to family and friends and will certainly eat there again xxx

Ok service but food was mediocre.

I've had a takeaway a few time's..food is excellent...but happy garden need to work on there portions a bit better..the silver container is only being filled half way..."as we all know its not cheap these days"

To be honest Im not a review writer , but Im a regular at The Happy Garden , and every time I go it just gets better , i recommend numerous customers here as well, who absolutely rave about it , the food is on point , its clean and the staff are always chatty and eager to help . Great Job Andy

Went with two friends for a meal last night, & although the restaurant was full the service was fantastic & the staff really friendly . We had the banquet which was amazing & really good value for the huge amount of food we had. Would highly recommend

Our favourite Chinese restaurant around.

Love this authentic Chinese restaurant. The food is great and the staff are very pleasant and quick to serve. Also, a licensed bar with draught beers and plenty of other bottled beer, spirits and wine. I have tried most things on the menu and they are all good but my favourite has to be the sizzling steak dishes with one of the sauces on offer depending on your preference.

Would like more Asian vegetables and also more dim sum

AMAZING I have never had bad food or service I would say THE BEST Chinese in Congleton. The staff go out of their way to make sure you are served quickly with a friendly attitude I cannot find a single issue with anything. 100% if you haven't been go and try for your self

Not good at all. Chicken was like rubber. Chips were burnt soggy. Way to many onions and green pepper and way to expensive.

Worst Cinese we have ever had. Crispy beef was greasy, chicken in orange sauce was like rubber & sauce had no taste. The best part of the meal was the starters....spring rolls. First time there and also the last unfortunately.

The food is not great. This is the most Western Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten in and in no way authentic; It would be laughed out of China Town. I wouldn’t be surprised if their sweet and sour sauce is from Uncle Ben’s jars. The menu is confusing. We ordered a variety of dishes. The duck dish had batter which was disgusting. The pile left in the photo is of the aforementioned batter. Sadly the meat itself was over cooked. None of us were impressed; we cannot believe this has 4 stars. On a plus, the place is very clean and the staff are attentive and friendly. If they re-train their cooks [or chefs if they have them] then this place could be quite nice.

First time visiting Happy Garden and it was absolutely gorgeous. The food was so fresh, tasty and the restaurant was lovely and clean. Beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Nice restaurant and takeaway. Satay chicken is lovely there. Staff sometimes a bit miserable though. Overall nice place to eat.

New menu has been introduced which has prices I would only pay to sit in and eat. They no longer give the 20 percent discount for take away. They have shot themselves totally in the foot as there are several other take aways in the area doing equally as good food.

Fantastic meal for my daughter's 18th birthday. Food was excellent. Good flavours and very fresh. Service was friendly. Excellent experience that made the occasion so special. Highly recommended. Thank you to the staff for their hard work and dilligence.

Don't. Just don't do it. Ordered a crispy beef, egg fried rice, salt and pepper chips, sweet and sour chicken and a chicken chow mein. Spent £30.90 and the only thing that was edible was the sweet and sour chicken. Rice was gloopy and oily, crispy beef was dry and like dust, chow mein tasted awful and looked totally unappetising then even something as simple as chips were soggy and cold. Look elsewhere folks. Its the worse Chinese I've ever had and a disgrace to Congleton.

Been a customer for quite a number of years now. Since lock down we've been having our takeaway delivered. Last Saturday and the previous meals have been really delicious, piping hot and delivered with a smile. Carry on that way please.

It was very expensive at nearly £30 and it wasn't worth the money. The chicken chow mein tasted like boiled chicken in flavourless soup, very annoyed that I have wasted that amount of money for nothing.

We have been to Happy Garden now a few times since moving to Congleton a year ago and overall its been good. The food is good and they do a Sunday special. I have noticed though that on a couple of occasions I've had drinks added to the bill. Also the staff can be a bit slow.Overall though I would recommend.

We had been recommended to visit this restaurant and today was the day. Choice on menu was lovely and they had a separate vegan menu.We visited the Greek Taverna approximately two weeks ago to celebrate my birthday. Sefano and the rest of the staff made this a very special occasion and, the meal was excellent.

One of my fave Chinese restaurants ever...and I only have 2 favourites! The 2nd being in Guernsey. I absolutely LOVE Happy Garden. The food is amazing, the staff are friendly and everywhere is clean and tidy. They do both dining and takeaway. The only downside to me is no delivery.

Pleasantly surprised. Wasnt expecting much from this out of town restaurant but i really fancied a Chinese meal and there are few open on Monday's... but this was. Anyway, glad i came.. food was lovely and tasted really fresh. Portion sizes were very generous and also reasonably priced. Staff were welcoming and attentive and not too in your face... all in all great little restaurant which i will definitely visit again next time i am in the area. One small criticism, one of my favourite dishes is black pepper sauce but this was only available on the most expensive sizzling fillet steak dish.

You need to take the pineapple out of the special fried rice; that’s the first time I have had it come with pineapple, it doesn’t work, get rid of it.

We have not eaten here for a long time but thought we would give it a try. We had the set meal for two. We went in around 6.30 and were shown to a table by Kate and served by her all night she was very pleasont and helpful. . There were quite a few people in and there was a pleasont atmosphere in the room. I had hot and sour soup which was thick spicy and delicious in fact I think it was the best I have ever had!. My husband had the chicken and sweet corn he said that was nice too. The appetizer with ribs wontons, seaweed also were hot and delicious. The service was good. We were asked if we wanted the main or a little wait but we were ok for the rest of the meal to come. Everything was hot pak po rice was really yum. Lemon chicken was really good. We couldn't fault anything we had lychees to finish the meal which are so refreshing. Coffee was included too. Will return. Drinks prices were reasonable

Love the food here. Helpful staff. Could do with an update but comfortable enough. I am a regular visitor with family and friends.

We had a little wait for our food and had to ask for some water three times but the quality of the food made up for other shortfalls. We had been before when someone else’s takeaway had been added to my bill but we all make mistakes and we will go back in the near future.

Had takeaway. Chicken fried rice is awful. Huge chunks of tough, obviously previously frozen chicken instead of nice tender thin strips. Lazy practice. Local to me but won't be returning

Gorgeous food, quick service, lots of parking, a little pricier than other similar venues but don't mind paying extra if the food is as good as it is, thank you, will definitely return.

This was my first time at this restaurant and will be my last! It was rather busy when we got there being the evening of Mother’s Day. The service was very slow however. It look almost an hour for the starters to arrive – no matter how busy a restaurant is, a well run establishment should not take that length of time. The main courses didn’t arrive for another hour – over two hours after arrival in the restaurant. The gap between the starter and main course was ridiculous and I’d gone past being hungry by then. Two ladies on a table nearby chose to leave after their starters asking to take their main course home – as they were so cold sat by the window. Warm plates were brought to the table but about 25 minutes later there was still no sign of the main course at all so of course the plates had gone cold. On complaining about the length of time the food was taking we were promised that our order would be the next out. A member of the party pointed out that the plates had been there so long they had gone cold and asked for new warm plates to be brought. The waitress dutifully took them away but returned a few minutes later saying there were no more hot plates and so placed the cold ones back on the table. It was starting to feel like “Fawlty Towers” by now. I really don’t like hot food on cold plates. Very poor indeed! The food was quite good but the service was a huge disappoint. On challenging the manager on the poor experience and negotiating a discount on the bill she said that two hours was reasonable on a busy night. Reasonable to whom? Not to us at all! If you read back other reviews many others have also had similar experiences including the cold plates. I don’t think the restaurant management are taking any notice of feedback here. The problem is made worse by accepting take-away orders that they can’t seem to cope with and also run the restaurant efficiently. During the lengthy waits it also got irritating to kept being asked if we wanted more drinks – more potential profit for them from their own inefficiencies and no mention of free drinks on the House to compensate for the delay I might add. I cannot recommend this place at all – do yourself a favour and go somewhere better.

As a pretty reasonable person I expect Mothers Day to be busy in most restaurants so anticipated the possibility of waiting longer than usual. I hadn’t however expected it take take almost 2 hours to be served our starters and main course. Just to top off the service:- we had to clear the table of our own empty glasses (on to an adjacent empty one - it wasn’t particularly busy) - The warm plates we were given for our main course were cold by the time the food eventually arrived. We asked for more warm ones to be brought but they didn’t have any....?I have no criticism of the individuals serving but would suggest that management need to plan better for busier nights (although the fact that they thought a 2 hour wait was acceptable is may be a root of the problem) or possibly consider their capacity to serve both the restaurant & take away orders. Sadly we won’t be planning a return anytime soon.

I have eaten well in the Happy Garden in the past but last Saturday was an exception. It was not very busy but we waited ages to be served and even longer before the drinks arrived. The starters were ok but nothing special... Prawn phoenix rolls and chicken skewered with satay sauce. The main course was not the best: Pak Fa Duck (Deep fried duck with prawn meat stuffing) with an Egg White sauce - a froth that had a most unpleasant taste and a rather nasty off egg smell. We complained. The waitress noted that different people have different tastes... which was a clever way of dismissing our concerns. We gave up and left. Would we go back? Not in a hurry...

One of the best in North west Hard to choose between here and chopstix in Congleton both are off the scale in lushness never been let down tbh that's a lie but I've always been over compensated Guess if your having a takeaway it's Chopstix (love this place can't get enough box B and box C 🤤 lovely guy who runs chopstix) If you're eating out treating the Mrs or celebrating a special occasion this place is the real deal Happy Gardens expensive but that's reflected in the exceptional standard and quality of the food Highly recommend the phoenix roll Enjoy

Despite living 11 miles away and having to collect takeaways from here (they don’t deliver) there is absolutely nowhere else I would get a Chinese from. I have tried many a place over the years and always come back to here. The food is incredible and the prices reasonable. Portion sizes are generous and besides the usual busy periods the wait time is completely fine. Would never go anywhere else.

1st time visit this evening. Found food and service excellent. Seen reviews that stated the service was slow. Found quite the opposite. Service perfectly timed. Very friendly. Certain to return.

We have been to this restaurant several times recently (sept 2018 to present) and have also made use of their take away service. The surroundings are not luxurious, however, they are of a pleasant, good standard and comfortable. The food is well presented and delicious. We have never been disapointed either eating in or take away. We had not been to this restaurant for many years as I had been avoiding chinese food altogether as I always seemed to get a bad headache afterwards, however, no headache from this restaurant!! This restaurant is certainly worth a visit for single diners to large parties. I am glad we gave it a try after so many years. This is now our only place for eating Chinese food!!

Fabulous meal last night for my birthday, all 4 of us agreed it was the best Chinese we’ve ever eaten!! The only negatives were starters took forever to appear, OK they were worth the wait in the end, but mains also a bit slow and didn’t arrive all together. Definitely will be back though as it was delicious 😍

Visited with friends that live in the area - love Chinese - was put off slightly by the outside and it was modern and a little rundown, more like a cafe inside than a restaurant, However the food was fabulous!

Beautiful food but food came out in dribs and drabs. The chips/rice came out and 5 mins still no main. Had to ask when the main was coming to the table. Sometimes one person got served and no food for the others turned up for another 5 mins! 2 stars for beautiful food.

The food was gross and undercooked. We stop going a few months back because of the drop in quality, we went back today and had to throw half the food away due to it being raw. Thanks!

Came with my partner and grandparents for grans 92nd birthday. Staff were brilliant, held the doors open, took their coats and helped in anyway they could. We had a set meal and it was all lovely and came out in a timely manner. Will definitely return. Thank you for the delicious food and all your help.

Visited here with a big group of friends for my birthday ... service ok , did have to ask for them to take orders for starters and mains but it was a Saturday so was very busy! Food was gorgeous as always! Probably my favourite Chinese in Congleton.

Service was slow and staff were eating at the bar whilst working. Waitress had to be reminded several times about items we had ordered that we hadn't had. Food was nice and well prepared when we got it.

The food was excellent- best crispy beef I’ve had in a while but, while the service was good,the waiting staff themselves need to tidy themselves up- stained clothes and thigh high skirts don’t present a professional image. Attention to detail is important- we had to move tables because of grubby tablecloths .
