Had dinner here with my partner. It’s a real locals pub but with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The steak and kidney pudding and lamb shank were both really tasty and very reasonable in price. We will definitely be coming back here and will recommend to friends if they’re in the area.

We've visited here before for evening meals and absolutely love it , food is amazing ,staff are really attentive and genuinely lovely people . The owner has told us before their Sunday lunches were good , so this year we decided to get booked in to try , and wow what a lunch it was . We love the place anyway , so much so that we've booked in for Thursday night too , and possibly any other time while we're down here on holiday for two weeks . Definitely a holiday tradition now ! Thank you 👍🏻

We were staying quite close to East Allington and fancied a Sunday lunch out. We were not disappointed with our choice of venue. Lovely ambience, obviously popular with both locals and tourists which is always a good sign. I had roast beef which was delicious and my husband went for the Lamb Shank after he had a starter of king prawns. Loads of vegetables were served separately and lashes of rich silky gravy. The bill came to £39.95 which is incredibly good value. Get booked in soon as it's an absolute delight! 😊

Lovely pub hidden down some narrow lanes. We found a warm welcome in this dog friendly pub with really very good food indeed. They were kind enough to let us park our van overnight (we did phone ahead) and we left with happy smiles. Definitely recommended

Superb - like pubs used to be (and should be). Food is outrageously good value - high quality home cooked meals at a price comfortably lower than anywhere else we ate out in a week’s holiday in the area. Waitress was brilliant - really friendly and good with the kids, and the landlord was very friendly as well. Little touches were great - after dinner mints for the adults and a little packet of sweets for the kids. If you are in the area and looking for somewhere to eat out or go for a friendly drink in a traditional and atmospheric pub, don’t miss the chance to come here. You can tell they are doing something right as the pub was packed with locals having a good old chin wag over a drink after work on a Friday.

An absolute gem. Excellent food and a friendly welcome. Plenty of vegetarian options along with a smile and friendly service. My wife had the vegetarian curry and I had fish and chips . Both were equally excellent. The second evening I had a burger and the wife requested a collection of vegetarian starters to make up a main course. In all instances the food and the service were outstanding. A big recommended from me.

We had such a lovely time visiting this gorgeous country pub. There were 10 of us altogether having dinner and all 10 of us said it was the perfect place to come for our last day of our holiday because of the delicious food and the lovely, smiley welcoming staff who were attentive and on hand to give us advice about the local spots. All 10 of us left with a full belly and we are excited to come back next year and many years after as our holiday pub (hopefully you will still be serving that lasagne which was to die for) Thank you for the excellent service and yummy food. This is a great spot for a Sunday roast dinner. The pub is very sweet, the staff friendly and helpful and the portions generous. My only gripe would be the very small wine list, a european red or two would have been a nice option.

Featured in Devon Live for their Sunday roast. Well worth the drive from Torquay. A proper locals' village freehouse pub in the glorious Devon countryside. Cosy bar areas and doggy friendly. Log fires. An excellent Sunday lunch. Perfect roasties, which are key don't you feel dear reader. Plenty of veg including a generous and ubiquitous cauliflower cheese. Perfectly cooked lamb shank and pink beef. Greated by Ian, cheerful and engaging. We shall return one evening mid week for the steak and kidney pud. Also featured in the Good Pub Guide. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Family group of 12 (plus baby) had Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago and it was fabulous. We can be a fussy lot when it comes to food but between us we had just about everything on the menu and we all agreed we couldn't fault it. Portions that arrived on the plate were very generous, tasty and with properly cooked meats and were supplemented by dishes of extra veg including broccoli & cauliflower cheese. The Vegetarian dishes were also worthy of high praise as were the puddings which we just had to try even though we were about to burst! On top of that service was friendly and very prompt even though we didn't pre-order our meals and to round it off we thought it was excellent value for money. Would highly recommend a visit here.

Nine of the restaurants nearby are open Monday and Tuesday, the days they are open they won’t take bookings or even answer the phone. We got there within 12 minutes and was served by a polite gentleman who showed us which tables were available. They were very attentive, we got our food very quickly and efficiently, the food was delicious, the price was very good and the pub style was charming. Had a really lovely meal at the Fortescue, for a small pub its got a really great menu, including an entire veggie menu if you are that way inclined. Delicious Halloumi and prawns for starters, nicely presented and then a great steak and lamb shank for mains. The only slight let down was the chips which were a bit pale and slightly hard for my liking, but this is only a very minor note in what was overall a great pub meal. It seemed the pub was being run on one chef and one member of front of house staff, but the lovely barmaid was entirely unflappable and very attentive and the food cooked to perfection. Would definately reccomend =)

Ian and Adrian were outstanding in every way on an occasion that needed to be just right. Their attention to detail is outstanding and all areas of the pub looked perfect. The formal part of the ceremony was in the dining room and it was beautifully laid out with plenty of seating for all that needed it. The classical music that my father had requested was playing in the back ground as everybody arrived and after the ceremony people could sit in the bar area which looked inviting and homely as well as the dining room. I attended my nieces wedding reception at the Fortescue Arms recently. The owners did everything possible to make it a memorable day. The food was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you for helping to make a special day even more special.

This really is a proper country pub, it is charming, relaxed and very welcoming. There are decent beers, served by a genuine, friendly barman. It’s nice to go somewhere new and to be made to feel so comfortable.

We were staying elsewhere and didn’t fancy their menu so came to the Fortescue instead. Really friendly welcome for us and our dogs. Excellent pub grub at great prices. Plenty of choice. So good we came back the next night. Highly recommend.

Visiting the area and booked lunch in advance. Really lovely roasts ( beef and lamb shanks) , very tasty and superbly cooked. Roast potatoes and parsnips spot on, a wide variety of vegetables including lovely cauliflower cheese. Really generous portions, we were all more than satisfied.

As a family of 8 we were staying nearby at Pitt Farm (not to be missed) and we had a pre booked Sunday lunch for 6 adults and two children here.

Ample good quality pub grub. They were very accommodating and went out of their way to help out with food intolerances. Though there wasn't anything obvious for Gluten Free .

Coming from a pub free village in Scotland I appreciate this proper local in many ways…so come on East Allington, give it more attention. Good bar with welcoming fire, social environment, welcoming hospitable friendly staff, well-kept beers, and as “ginisin” a great selection of gins; bargain lunchtime menu with good food and even better homemade desserts. More extensive evening Menu which I have not had the opportunity to enjoy. Events hosted including great value wine dinner, quiz nights, French lessons! and a winter fayre

Emma provided a FABULOUS spread for 120 people following a funeral at Stoke Gabriel church. Everyone was catered for and the food was exceptional, most notably the crab cakes, samosas and scones, with jam and cream of course. Aunt and uncle have lived in the village for more than 50 years and have dined at Emma’s many times, always speaking MOST highly of the restaurant, food and Emma herself. Thank you!

Great wagyu burgers whatever the time of day! Fantastic friendly service by someone so enthusiastic about burgers. Not normally a burger fan but these... other worldly. I am yet to try the Halloumi burgers but I'm sure they are also awesome.

Very clean, organised barn stop offering a good selection of cakes and snacks. Also a great variety of drink choices. Clean and tidy tables and toilets. All offered on an honesty basis. I hope people respect this trust and pay for a lovely place to stop and refuel.

Simply the best. 7 starters , 3 mains and 3 deserts of superlative quality. The best £49 you could ever spend. Just look at the photos.
