Overall the restaurant service was good (very good choice of dishes for breakfast). We ate each evening in the restaurant. Booked table & offered water (it’s bottled so a charge). We also ordered a bottle of wine - on first night server was very professional & asked us to taste b4 pouring fully (not so the latter 2 nights). On first night we had a wait of about 20min from ordering to service (we didn’t have a starter on any occasion). We therefore expected to wait roughly the same time on the following nights. On the Friday however we actually waited almost 1hr & if there had been anywhere else to go we would have walked out. Admittedly our server was ‘in training’ & although she was pleasant & apologetic re the wait it was annoying. The last evening I decided to go for the ‘small plates’ & as I tend to eat more quickly than my husband we asked could his ‘large plate’ of sirloin steak be served first (given that server did tell us that the small plates would usually arrive first). Unfortunately my small plates came first. As we mentioned our request to (different) server who brought food they apologised & brought hubby’s steak as quickly as possible. Am not going to specify specific dishes as e.g. sauce I got with one of my choices was nice but too spicy for me & am aware that others would think it not spicy enough We didn’t think the prices of the food & wine were particularly extortionate but have had similar for cheaper. Given this we did expect some portions to be smaller than expected (especially on the small plates). The ‘specials’ were also generally good value as sides tended to be included.

I found the food very expensive for what we actually received (dinner). I was always taught to wait for others before beginning my meal but unfortunately, all the food came out at different times so some were eating and some weren't which I found very strange especially when some were ready for dessert but needed to wait for others finishing. The breakfast was average and very little vegetarian choice. Don't think i will be back eating there.

On our recent staycation at Lancaster House Hotel, we got the chance to sample this restaurant. We tried the following: 🌟 Foodworks Restaurant (Dinner) 》8oz Cumbrian Lamb Rump served with douphinoise potatoes, sauteed greens, pistachio crumbs, port wine sauce 》Pan-fried Seabass Fillet with tarragon cream 》Longhorn Meatballs, spiced pork and Longhorn beef meatballs with mozzarella, rich tomato and chilli ragout 》Pan-fried King Prawns with garlic, tequila and lime butter 》Sticky Toffee Pudding with ginger snap, clotted cream vanilla ice cream, toffee sauce 》Almond and Coconut Crème Caramel Everything was beautifully presented from the enticing starters to the delectable mains and heavenly desserts. The tender Cumbrian Lamb rump and hearty pan-fried seabass fillet were cooked to perfection with balanced flavours complimented by the other elements on the plate, they were able to showcase the best of Lancashire's local produce which is truly commendable - we really enjoyed this meal. The Foodworks Restaurant brasserie-style menu offers traditional classics with a twist. They are regionally sourced aiming to support Lancashire farmers and artisan producers. The fresh, scrumptious dishes did not disappoint and the stylish interiors with superb service made our dining experience here so memorable. Please do check it out, I highly recommend them.

Mediocre food and slow service. I booked the dinner, went with a large group of people and spent in excess of £2k in one evening. They have installed a parking fine trap (the establishment is in the middle of nowhere and no one told if/how to register the car) and I received the penalty notice. Went back to the hotel to appeal; asked me to fill up a form and appeal in the website. Said they would support my appeal. They did no such thing and the online appeal was promptly rejected and my email about that to the reception was not answered. I have used the facilities over several years without any issues. The poor service, rude staff, and tricking customers into paying a fine is a new development.

Had a really super dinner at The Foodworks this evening. The service was friendly and efficient, a special mention must be given to Callum who was excellent! The menu itself was small but had something to tempt everyone on each course. We opted for the soup, carrot and coriander, always a winner and the duck which were both well presented and tasty. For the main course it was the sword fish and the Sea Bass and once again they definitively 'hit the spot.' Although we were both quite full after the first two courses we managed the Chocolate and Orange Tart and a selection of Ice Creams. A perfect meal!

Came here for dinner on Valentine’s Day. It was easy to create a booking online, which is more convenient than calling them. The food prices are pretty high, but I have to say that the food was good; however, the portions could be improved on as they were pretty preservative with that. Furthermore, they are pretty generous with the salt in some dishes, so you might want to keep that in mind. The restaurant is located in a hotel and isn’t that loud a nice place to go with someone for dinner or lunch. Another thing to mention is that at night there is nice ambient lighting that reduces the strain on your eyes and makes the environment more romantic.

Very imaginative vegetarian and vegan options, both starter and mains. I had filo tart which was very good indeed. The tofu balls with chilli and quacomole were excellent. Meat dishes also good. Staff efficient and helpful. Also had afternoon tea which was generally very good except the fruit scone which was heavy and had the merest scrape of jam cream. The rest was very good with Lancashire savoury delicacies replacing the more usual finger sandwiches.

The only saving graces here we the pigs in blankets and the fact the AWFUL steal and onion sandwiches were knocked off the bill. First lot was cold and the stale bread burnt. They were taken leaving our sides going cold on the table! We decided to eat those but weren't given a plate to use so ended up with salt and vinegar all over the table. Our replacement sandwiches weren't worth the wait. More limp salad, slimy onions and crumbling bread. The horse radish sauce was missing the horse!!! The restaurant wasn't busy but the waiter was all alone and unable to check on us and we waited 25 minutes for him to return. We had been in the spa and had a lovely time...... Such a shame it was ruined by the extremely poor food!! I'm not a chef and could easily produce better food. For such a grand looking place, the food wasn't even up to Wetherspoons standard but they expect you to pay an extortionate price for the privilege!!! The tables weren't even clean!

Staying at the hotel (Lancaster House) it seemed appropriate to eat pre-theatre here. Having booked for 6 o'clock, we were still waiting for the food at 6:40 (we were the first people to sit down and order). Nobody said upon mentioning going to the theatre that the lamb dish ordered would take so long. When it arrived, it was a generous portion, but the quality atrocious. Refused to pay for it, and the good thing was the manager apologised and did not accept payment even for the wine. I don't know whether the breakfast is administered by the same crew, but it was equally poor: cold scrambled eggs and sausages barely deserving the name.

We booked online , for the Sunday Roast ,having previously enjoying the meal ,so we returned , we received a email confirming the reservation . We arrived on time , to be greeted by the restaurant manager ,informing us that the Sunday Roast had been discontinued, and shown to the table , at this point he also apologising that the air conditioning had been left on ,and the restaurant was freezing . With it now being 6.20 on Sunday ,with a 6 year old , we made the choice to stay , we ordered the deconstructed Hot Pot , Chicken Caesar Salad and the Black pudding and Chorizo Salad , the food arrived , the presentation was poor , the hot pot was 2 pieces of Lamb that was tough ,full of sinus and pretty much inedible , the Salad consisted of a small amount of limp lettuce leaves ,and not much more , the Black pudding Salad was again a few limp lettuce leaves , 3 slithers of apple , a chunk of black pudding ,a porched egg , which was solid , the dish was average at most . On settling the bill we spoke to the Restaurant manager who apologised, not content with his response, we asked to speak to the duty manager ,her response again was not satisfactory, she promised that she would speak to the General Manager , but so far we have heard nothing . We will certainly not be return in a hurry ! Shame because it would the previous standards are dropping , not what you expect from a well established Hotel group like this .

Booked a meal for 5 for a birthday lunch and we enjoyed the food and service. The restaurant was a bit cold so not very comfortable. Two had Sunday roast beef "sharer" which was good with plentiful portions and nice vegetables. Two had steak burgers which were very nicely cooked and tasty. One had a Sweet Potato Roullade (spelling?) which was enjoyed as well. All was going nicely until another table came in with two kids who had tablets or phones on speaker and too loud, very inconsiderate to other guests and kind of spoilt our lunch.

The actual location and restaurant was lovely . I looked at the menu and was surprised at the good prices . The toilets had Elemis products ... my partner , brother and I ordered the steak sister in law ordered the salmon , children had burgers etc and our mother ordered the pork . The steaks were the worst we have tried to date . We had to ask for some sauce to be served as they were very dry and bland . The whole table ordered a different sauce with their meals as this was not offered at the time of ordering so we assumed our food would be served with sauce . By the time the sauce arrived the food was ate and we had to order more fries just to use up the sauce ! The portion size was very small as well and the whole table ate every bite . The staff were incredibly lovely and very good with the children . We asked for our steaks to be medium rare steaks and all got medium well done . The steaks really were terrible . I would not eat here again . We did however see Tyson Fury which was quite good however , he was eating with his family so we didn’t get to speak to him really . All in all I wouldn’t go back ... I think they could charge double what they do if only the food was good !

The duck main was overcooked despite being described on the menu as 'served pink'...it was grey. The posh fish and chips was served nicely but one of the pieces of fish was so undercooked it was practically still swimming. The desserts were a mixed bag..creme brûlée was delicious, creamy and lush. The Crepe Suzette however was appalling. Raw alcohol was poured over the crepes and set alight, it was served with a pot of marmalade straight from a jar and some ice cream. The ice cream was nice but where was the warm orange sauce? My partner and I have eaten here twice in the last few months (we live quite close): the first time as a 'treat', the second time because we got a 50% discount as a result of joining the hotel's leisure club. The surroundings are pleasant (but can be noisy), the service generally friendly though quite slow (the exception, on occasions, to the 'friendly' tag is the restaurant manager). My partner has enjoyed two good steaks there, and I had a nice risotto dish the first time around (not on the menu the second time). So generally the food seems good, if somewhat over-priced (but it is a 4-star restaurant). However, I wrote this review mostly to share the humour inherent in the 'posh fish 'n' chips', which I made the mistake of ordering on our second visit. For £17, I got three small pan-fried fillets (one wasn't quite a fillet), two of which were slightly over-cooked, six chunky chips, a couple of spoonfuls of mushy peas, some tartar sauce, a slice of lemon, and some 'scraps' (albeit not as you would normally know them). I've posted a photograph so you can share the humour. If this is how posh folk eat their fish and chips, they ought to visit Yorkshire Fisheries in Blackpool (for instance) and see how fish and chips really should be done.

It was my friends birthday and we were looking for a place to eat that was reasonably priced and would not be too crowded. This restaurant at Lancaster House Hotel offers a good choice for Sunday lunch. They do a sharing platter for £20 for 2 or £30 for a family of four. The choices are beef, pork and chicken. This is carved at the table with dishes of roast and mashed potatoes, and an assortment of vegetables. More than enough for two and lots of meat to go around. We had the beef which was delicious as not a meat I generally have. We had no room for starters or pudding and there is a reasonable choice priced around £6 - £7. There are also single dishes on the menu from around £13 upwards. Service was very good and the atmosphere was reasonably quiet and spacious. Would certainly recommend and might go back next Sunday before I return home.

So have been once before for Sunday lunch and the food was really good! This was back in November. Was back again this weekend though as my family were staying in the hotel. We had Sunday Lunch as well as an evening meal Saturday. On the Saturday Night we technically ate in the bar, despite being after 6pm and so part of the menu becomes closed, I really wanted to have the Vegetarian Platter, when asked the waitress was very, very nice and said she would see what she could do! Which was very impressive, because despite asking I assumed it would probably be a no. The other two in the party weren't as awkward though mum is a coeliac and throughly enjoyed the burger and chips she had (as they had gf bread). When the meals came I was very happy with mine, was very tasty and very nice! It was missing a few things advertised from the description but I assume because I ordered after 6pm this is probably why, and so while it was a shame I think it was fair enough, what I did have was very, very nice though! And there was plenty of it. Next day we ate Sunday Lunch in the restaurant we were joined by my Aunty (fellow Veggie) and young cousin. Both my aunty and I had the goats cheese salad though because she isn't much of a fan of goats cheese she asked if a different cheese could be used instead, to which she was given a list of all the cheeses they had and said she could take her pick, which we were very impressed by! Fantastic customer service! The goats cheese salad was very, very, very nice! lovely beetroot in and the cheese was really good! We ordered deserts too, my young cousin was very happy with her chocolate Gnochi claiming it was the best desert she had ever eaten, the Creme brule, cheesecake and lemon tart all looked good as well. I had the sorbet, which was really nice, very soft and refreshing, only disappointment here was that again it came not as the menu specified and was missing the strawberries which was a real shame as it was a big factor in why I ended up choosing the sorbet, because I really wanted the strawberries. Apart from the two minor discrepancies with the menu, I cannot fault the food quality, or more importantly the staff, who were very attentive, very welcoming and very accommodating of 2 veggies (who were messing around with the menu), A coeliac and a hyperactive child!

We had booked a table for an early evening meal, having travelled from North Cumbria, Lancaster & Manchester to meet for Mothers Day. The bar was full due to s local celebrity (!!) & we sat in the dining room. We all chose the roast platter, 2 beef , one pork. Pork ok, beef ok for two, rest fatty. veg were soggy & yorkshires chewy. Staff polite but service slow. I rang 10 days ago to say how disappointed we were as the meal was only like warm..due to slow service & all having to travel we left without dessert. No one asked if everything was ok. I was advised that someone would be in touch within a few days...telephone & email left....NOTHING..obviously more concerned neither keeping he bar sorted than guests..we couldn't even get into the bar!! Disappointed that you haven't responded, so won't be back in a rush

I have visited the Lancaster House Hotel twice within the last year and been very impressed with the consistently high quality of the Foodworks Restaurant. The menu is changed seasonally which ensured I had some new choices to make on my February/ March visit this year, compared to when I visited in November. Same exceptionally high quality though, and I really do recommend the fillet steak with peppercorn sauce! Good choice of desserts too! Very friendly and efficient service by all.

Had pigeon breasts, overlooked, best served pink, not brown. Had the Lancashire Hotpot, an old favourite but it was a heavy gravy casserole with mint, not at all like Hotpot. A shame because it was well put-together but just wrong.

We found some interesting items on the menu - including a wood pigeon starter which was very tasty. Everything was well presented and tasty - however the service could have been a little slicker.A good menu with lots of choice we all enjoyed our foodWine was reasonably priced and very quaffable. As we were staying at the hotel we also had breakfast. Plenty on offer but the porridge was dried up in its self serve container and well past its best.Very pleasant restaurant but not really 'special'.

We had an evening dinner and lunch. Our dinner was booked for 7.15 but it took until 10.30 to finish being served, although we enjoyed what was served in between the long waits. Lunch was little better. Although we had a table of 8, the restaurant was not overly busy but the 3 course lunch stretched over two hours and the food quality was poor. Laughably, a complaint that a bowl of soup was only half full was met by it being returned to the kitchen and seemingly watered down. Complaints to the manager only drew a half-hearted apology

We went for lunch on my son's graduation day. As it is December there was a festive lunch menu with a very good selection of choices for starter, main and dessert. I had winter soup, which was delicious, followed by turkey. My husband had duck pate to start and my son had smoked salmon - both very good. They both had butterfly steak which both said was excellent and perfectly cooked. We all had the same vegetables which were nicely cooked, including honey roast parsnips, carrots and sprouts. We did not have desserts as the first two courses were plenty, but the lunch also included tea or coffee and mince pies. Another nice touch was the Christmas crackers and a little gift box containing little festive surprises. The bread served before the meal was also warm and was very tasty. The service was excellent. We will definitely go back. It really added to the enjoyment of the day. The restaurant was tastefully decorated for Christmas.

Having stayed in the hotel many times I usually eat out in Lancaster, but this week I have eaten in the hotel. Simply because the food is just so good. The steaks are excellent. The salmon and tasting platters are too. Nothing better than on a rainy night in October having a fresh pint of local beer while relaxing in from of the old log fire crackling away. Try either the bar area or the main restaurant you won't be disappointed.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I really love this hotel, I have reviewed it before and have always rated it highly. I have to only rate it as average this time as there were a couple of disappointing issues that spoiled what should have been a nicet lunch. When I looked at the website it stated that Sunday Lunch was available from 12 till 3 pm. This was perfect for our party of 6 as my daughter and her partner had an appointment helping out as 3rd years at a Fresher's fair for a society they have been involved in. They had committed to be there at 2pm so we thought just under two hours as their meeting was just across the road should be more then enough time for a two course lunch and catch up. When my daughter tried to book the table it was pointed out to her that lunch didn't start until 12.30 which shortened the time scale for us but after considering I still felt we should have enough time to do this in preference to the bar where we have eaten many times. I looked at the menu and noticed that their delicious fish and chips were there, a firm favourite with my youngest daughter. We arrived early in the hope we could get things started but having been presented with a very much shorter version of what is online the disappointment came when I was told that because of their rosette, fish and chips was no longer available in The Foodworks restaurant. My youngest daughter was a little embarrassed and said she would have the salmon instead, her least favourite but she didn't want to cause a fuss. I pointed this out to a very nice gentleman who greeted us and also that the time scale was a little rushed due to the misleading website but we still would like to go ahead with our reservation. We ordered quickly with very polite staff and then sat and waited for quite a while. Other people who had arrived later, who had possibly ordered starters were served before us and I was a little anxious by 1.15pmOur lunch finally came. The two Sunday beef roasts were a sight to behold but I was more then a little dissaspointed to see that the 3 salmon lunches that were ordered were not accompanied by any veg or potatoes other then a tiny sun blush tomato, a couple of chopped green beans and a handful of rocket. If potatoes and veg were offered as an extra I would have happily paid extra. A waiter came over to ask if we had ordered cauliflower cheese, I said no we hadn't but also said as he walked away that it was a shame we weren't aware that side dishes could be ordered. Because of the time factor I realised that to try and supplement the lacking lunches now would cause a further delay and by the time desert was served my daughter's partner had to literally wolf his down and head off to make our daughters apologies. She hot to her meeting half an hour late and I was left feeling that things didn't go to plan......the food we ate was delicious but rushed, the attention to detail in the possibility of further sales was lacking and the website is definitely incorrect and needs updating. I share this experience not to complain, only to give a constructive criticism of how things could be improved.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the food and the service. We all had different main courses and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The staff were extremely attentive and polite. The lounge in the reception area and the toilets could benefit from some TLC. The log fire added to the cosy atmosphere of the establishment. The food was somewhat overpriced but usual hotel prices.

We had a very enjoyable family dinner on a Friday evening and all commented on the quality of the food. Whilst it was a little expensive, it was still good value. I would particularly recommend the Lancashire Hotpot Deconstructed. Only thing to bear in mind is that if there is a wedding reception underway at the same time, the food service may be a little slow - but it is worth the wait.

Food and choice very good. Had to order vegetables separately which was a bit of a nuisance and got persuaded to try sweet potato chips (which were lovely but didn't really go with the fish I ordered). Otherwise our service was very good but did notice a family in front of us getting pretty poor service when the very awkward front of house person couldn't find their booking and asked for the same information 3 times. Would have given excellent but for the music. Female singer covering lots of styles of music and "murdering" each song. Hard to stomach if you are a musician.Breakfast brilliant!

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. There was plenty of choice on the menu and it was reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. We found the service at dinner a little slow at times, but when the food arrived it was well cooked and tasty. There was a good selection at breakfast, although keeping the hot English breakfast selection replenished seemed to be a problem on the morning we were there. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The meal was lovely and cooked just right . The staff were friendly and the service was good. Even though the meal was nice I don't think it was value for money .

Stumbled upon this restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat on the English Lakes Hotel website. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and was nice to have a piano being played in the background. We had a few nibbled of Lancashire Parched Peas and the selection bread which was a nice start to the meal. The food was amazing and of a very high quality, i had the pan fried duck which was lovely and very tasty! Desert was the best bit, i chose the trio of chocolate which was to die for, the drama of the dish is the best, i won't spoil it but it's well worth ordering if you can stomach a very rich chocolate desert after dinner!Fantastic restaurant and staff, would definitely recommend giving it a try.

The food was excellent, fillet steak perfectly cooked and reasonably priced at £25 for the larger option. Prawn salad also very nice. Service was attentive with frequent check backs on the table. Only four reds to choose from by the glass which was disappointing, and the only other moan - menu prices are in words rather than figures which we found rather irritating e.g. "Five pounds fifty pence". Apart from that a very enjoyable dinner.

It is the same kitchen that runs the evening service, and the breakfast service that is also available in the hotel bar. Check with the staff to see if you can eat in either area, they seem quite relaxed about this which is cool. So, having had the excellent English & or Continental buffet type breakfast as you wish in the restaurant area and also eating in the relaxed bar area as well in the evenings, I must say it was a very enjoyable experience on all occasions. The quality of meats which are all locally sourced and very tasty, the staff were friendly and professional. The chef I hope gets the recognition that they deserve.Great northern hospitality and an enjoyable time had on a business trip, thanks to all the staff!!

Used the restaurant while staying at the Hotel it is located in. Despite the decor being totally different to the rest of the hotel the food and service was very good. Lots of local specials in seafood and meat dishes and some interesting vegetarian options too. Saddle of rabbit was on for one of the evenings I stayed and it was very good. Also had a local smoked platter on a different evening which had sausage, mackerel and salmon on and was really refreshing.

Can't believe the prices e.g. a pint + a half of Strongbow cider for £5.70 - very good value for money. Great location on the seafront opposite Eric Morecambe statue.
