Brilliant service here, absolutely. Was a busy Friday night and we were treated so well, we really felt like they had the me for us and appreciated our business. I had I indian trout, onion bhaji, sag alloo ( little light on the sag) and cucumber coriander salad which was delicious and hubby had the fish and chips equally good. We were too full for dessert sadly. They have a fabulous gin menu, I had one of my faves, Chase pomelo and pink grapefruit but unfortunately for my husband, the freedam zero on draught was playing up and not being served.

The place was nice, and there was a good space between tables, so you did not feel cramped or squeezed in. Service was excellent, and I hate to say it was almost too good. We tend to like at least a few minutes between courses, but almost as soon as you had finished starters, the table was cleared, and the main was there, so overall, the meal felt rushed.

Came with family for a three course meal. Excellent food. Would recommend.

Popped in for lunch and had not booked but our lovely server (Rob) found us a table and gave us excellent service. The food was lovely - we both had the steak sandwich and even though my daughter changed a few things, they were very accommodating. The atmosphere was nice and there was a lovely flower display, which we later found out was done by Daisy.

We had delicious meals with excellent service. We had roast lamb with all the trimmings and salmon/smoked haddock fishcakes and poached egg, all fantastic with generous portions. Desserts were chocolate brownie, knickerbocker glory and a cherry and chocolate ice cream dessert.

Me and my partner came here yesterday, first time we have ever been, we will definitely be back, staff very polite and friendly, made us feel very welcome, I tried a cocktail off the Chinese menu and it was lovely, the food was honestly outstanding! It’s pricey but you definitely get what you pay for! Didn’t feel like we was waiting long for our food yet it was super busy, you could tell the food was fresh and the presentation was outstanding! Definitely be back and definitely recommend to others!

I brought the girlfriend here an early valentines meal, first time for both of us here and it was an excellent night, our waiter was lovely and the food was amazing, the price is perfect for the quality, would absolutely recommend, and will go again.

Good solid pub grub, I had a beef burger and my partner had the venison burger. The spicy sweetcorn soup was delicious to start. There is a really good selection of drinks and nice to see some nice alcohol free cocktails too. I had a lovely ipa which showed how well the cellar is managed, the pint arrived at the table completely milky to the bottom and it took ages to fully settle, a sign of a really good pint! 4 stars for service, because we were stood near the bar looking puzzled for a while and were ignored by some passing staff when we clearly had just arrived and didn't know where to go and who to speak to about being seated. Once seated though, the staff were excellent. Maybe a sign near the door giving some instruction would be good. 4 stars for food, the portion size of some of the starters in our party seemed a bit stingy. Would probably return if passing.

Excellent Pub, staff, food and environment. Worth the expense, you get what you pay for. A well decorated, clean gastro pub for a special occasion. The. Beer is kept really well too. Ample parking, easy to find, lovely location. Nothing negative to say.

I went to the Highwayman pub for my godfathers birthday, as we booked accommodation nearby. We were total of 7 and a dog. I was a bit indecisive in what I wanted to eat for a main and asked the staff what they recommended. She mentioned the lamb and I have to say it was the best dinner I’ve had in a pub in a while. I also had starters and cocktails and other people in my party had the steak, pie and wine but the braised shoulder of lamb by far was the creme de la creme. It was very tender, good portion size and delicious. Happily would return just for this! I thank the chef and the front staff who were very friendly as well as making the experience more enjoyable. Would highly recommend.

The beer is always a delight, and my choice of Venison, smoked bacon, chestnut mushroom herb suet crust pie, colcannon mash was sublime. No exaggeration. Sadly I couldn't manage a desert.

We had an absolutely fantastic meal here- the atmosphere was welcoming from the moment we stepped through the door. Cosy decor and very friendly and efficient staff made the whole dining experience even more special. Will definitely return when we are next in the area and we have already recommended The Highwayman to friends and family living nearby.

Attended a birthday party here was seated in the room with all the books.. very lovely room. There was a pre order menu to choose from with a wide selection and vegetarian options, they were happy to cook something off the menu for the neurodivergent in the family. The good was reasonably priced for the quality of food received. The staff were great and attentive. The pub itself has plenty of parking and a beer garden. It is pet friendly and ideally located near walking areas and approximately 3 miles from kirby Lonsdale. It was busy when we arrived so prebooking especially on weekends is advised

Fantastic service and food. Not the cheapest but you do get a decent helping for your money, unlike many other restaurants. Well behaved dogs kept on a lead are allowed in the bar area. If you're booking a table and are taking a dog make them aware so they can allocate you a suitable table.

Visited for Sunday lunch while staying in a local cottage. Booking was easy. Welcome was warm and inviting and our table for 4 in the window was ready for us. We all chose Sunday lunch options and it was a great meal. Everything served together..piping hot ..extra gravy and apple /mint sauces. No faults and 4 clean plates. Unfortunately no room for desserts so we’ve booked to return for lunch today so we’ll see 😂 how we go.

Have just visited The Highwayman and had both an excellent meal and excellent service. We were greeted warmly, as on a previous occasion, by the man behind the bar and shown to our table. The food was first class and the service both friendly and professional. We hope to soon sample the Christmas menu and would heartily recommend this establishment..

Great place , but to many dogs, dogs should be in own area.

My daughter arranged 14 of us to go for my 60th birthday. We had varied dietary requirements including a severe nut allergy. From speaking to the manager to arrange our meals and the reception we received on the day I cannot praise them enough. Everything was excellent well organised and the food was amazing. Staff were so lovely made my birthday so special. Thankyou so much.

It's very pricey, staff are very attentive. Very good with allergens. However any issues their not great at explaining things.

Had tea here at 5pm on a Saturday, initially when we walked in, it was really busy and noisy. However, we were shown to our table in a quieter area, which was great. All the staff we encountered were very polite and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious, as was the German large. Can not wait to revisit. Perfect service and lovely produce.

We went here two Sundays on the run - first with friends and then as a couple. We really enjoyed it. The food was excellent and well presented. Crab arancini, sea bass, chilli beef salad were really delicious. Also the Sunday roasts looked lovely as they were being served to other tables. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful but a shout out for Tim who is so friendly and cheerful to everyone. Burrow is a couple of miles from Kirkby Lonsdale and it’s definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the area.

The Highwayman is a super country gastro-pub with great décor, nice food, beers and wine. Also very well organised, with slick service and charming staff. It was just the right Sunday lunch venue for our group of friends after doing the St. Peter's Church loop. It was also excellent value and having been there in February and June this year is highly recommended regardless of the time of year.

Meeting with a friend brought us to The Highwayman and what a good choice it was. Although it was busy when we visited, the restaurant has spacious, homely feel. Our mains included the shoulder of lamb and the chicken coq au vin and Appleby Cheshire cheese pies. All were beautifully cooked and very enjoyable. As a mark of good food we had space for desserts and once again our pavlova, hot waffle and sticky toffee pudding were first rate. Most of the service was excellent, the exception to this was the guy behind the bar (seemed to be in charge) who lacked the professionalism displayed by the other members of staff. However this wouldn't put us off returning again.

We loved this restaurant, the service was excellent very attentive staff the food was amazing we could not fault anything highly reccomend. Also it is dog friendly and they sold lots of doggie goodies so your fur baby could eat with you.

We visited a few days ago while on a holiday (stayed in Bentham 20 mins away) We didn't book, we were able to get a table, 2 adults, 1 child and dog. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, interested in our visit and super kind all the way through. The food was incredible and it's the first place I've ever visited where they sell "dog food bowls" with their own personal menu. It was a lovely touch and our pup was very happy 😍 Myself and my partner both commented this is by far the most friendly and best service restaurant we've ever been to and if we were local, this would be a top choice each time. Thank you guys! Can't remember the guys and the young lady names who looked after us but you were both lovely!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch with friends. We all enjoyed our food my fish pie was excellent. The service was very good and there is a good choice of drinks including beers .

Friendly efficient staff and lovely food

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here today. From the moment we entered we were warmly greeted by a man from the bar ( even though we hadn’t booked it was the perfect welcome) and showed us to a table. A lady then served us (I believe the manager) who could not have been more helpful. I would definitely recommend the sirloin steak and the steak burger. The service was a masterclass and the food was delicious. I definitely will be returning.

My partner and I highly recommend the Highwayman. Great service and a fantastic meal. We had the prawn and the calamari starters, which were delicious. We both had the Sea Trout for our main and that was incredible! The best fish dish I have had in a UK restaurant. Loved it! Our waiter was brilliant as well. We will definitely eat here again.

We come here regularly, one of the best eatery around, great food and great service, went for my sons birthday and the waiter was great, put candles in his pudding and wished him a happy birthday, it’s the small things which make a big impact.

We visited for a birthday meal and couldn't have been happier. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were spot on, and the service was brilliant. For a family with allergies, the allergen menu was so helpful - no need to go backwards and forwards with the kitchen to find out what isn't suitable. Already looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu.

We've eaten here before, a while ago, and it's as excellent now as last time. My other half is vegan and he loved the freshly made, quality food. The vegan choc cherry tart for dessert is superb, as a meat eater I loved it. The menu here changes regularly but the food is always well thought through and varied. I had a pie, this time, truly delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere and thoroughly recommend for a quality meal out for any occasion.

Just been for a lovely meal and couldn't quite fit a dessert in so asked for a takeaway. What a great surprise on the presentation when settled down in our camper. Definitely recommend and young staff very polite, nothing was a problem.

A very enjoyable meal in a lovely country pub. We popped in on the off chance and were told straight away that they were booked from 5:30pm until 8pm so we could eat outside of those times. We booked an earlier slot and were looked after well by all of the staff who took time to ensure we were comfortable and that our dog was provided with water. The pub is a nice place to vists being large and welcoming with plenty of room around tables giving space and privacy. We ordered chicken and chorizo pie and featherblade of beef. Both dishes were exceptional, and the accompaniments were also perfectly cooked and delicious. We ordered cheese board for dessert and this was just about ok for the money but the size of the cheeses was a little stingy so I wouldn't recommend. Beer was good and we were never rushed

Very friendly place, excellent staff food lovley. 10/10

Called in for lunch, not booked, and first call was the bar with its great choice of cask ales. Once our food was ordered it arrived within 15 minutes and it was well cooked and presented and very enjoyable. This was topped off by great service and all in all a very pleasant hour or so.

Dropped in on our travels, looking for somewhere to enjoy a Sunday roast. However, the gentleman behind the bar turned us and another family away. He said, "we have tables, but we won't be able to accommodate you because we need to be prepared for who might come through the doors in the next 20 minutes." This utterly insulting and very poor form by who I assume was the floor manager. The other family was also extremely unhappy with the welcoming (or there lack of) we received that afternoon.

We went for our first visit with our friend who is local. The service, food & atmosphere was perfect. I had the cheese, onion & potato pie which was excellent and my husband had the boar, pork & apple pie which was delicious too. The coconut rice pudding was a dream as was the cheese. Also dog friendly as well, our dog Scout appreciated that! Overall, a lovely evening. Would definately recommend to people visiting the area!

The only relative high spot was the very courteous young blond waitress. The food was atrocious - bacon chop tasted of a burnt grill, hard egg and some stupid concoction on the rocket. Fish and chips were OK but so what and a chicken burger...

We came as a group of 9 on the off-chance that they might have a table for us. They went completely out of their way to pull tables together and make room for us. The man who seated us and the women who took our order were absolutely wonderful. A member of our party has a gluten and dairy allergy and we were so shocked at how many things on the menu which she could actually eat.

Food is magnificent, staff are friendly atmosphere is good, all round fantastic.

Our 2nd visit to The Highwayman. Saturday evening... Packed! A superb country pub/restaurant that hasn't been spoilt by football on flat screen T.V's. The art of conversation is alive and kicking here. Ample parking with blue badge spaces. Outdoor seating has really been thought about with quality furnishings and protection from weather. Inside is so easy on the eye, not an assualt on the senses, most welcoming, the 'at home feeling' very few places offer. The barman was exceptionally attentive, chatty and quite charming, he certainly knew his craft. Every customer was treated with the same respect and consideration. We were seated in a quiet corner for which we were thankful for and having chosen our meals they arrived relatively quickly for a busy evening. The servings are ample in quantity, attractively presented and very tasty. I had the salmon 'cake' for a starter this was smaller than I had imagined but it was sufficient considering the upcoming main course. The baked camembert was the other starter which also was enjoyed. The slow cooked lamb shoulder fell apart with the highest of touches and melted in the mouth. The rump steak recommended by our waiter was more medium rare than the medium ordered but that was far from an issue as the meat was succulent (their steak knives needed sharpening, we requested to try another but that was no better, with thanks we accepted a serrated fruit knife which easily did the job). It's nice to see that people are prepared to think outside the box to resolve the issue! This is my favorite 'expensive' restaurant and therefore rarely visited, a pint of ale, double G&T, 2 starters, 2 mains a bottle of Tattinger Rosé and a coffee came to £135 wholly worth the money. Great atmosphere, experienced staff (99% of whom smiled), a superb menu of favourite food cooked to perfection and pleasant co-diners. We're likely to return early December for another celebration. A beautiful country pub with high class clientele and best of all, they allow dogs in the bar area for food and drinks. Food is of exceptional quality and great selection of wines, beers and spirits. 10/10

I called in here today on the way home from Devils Bridge. The food was delicous, the best I had eaten in a long time and the service was imeccable. Very friendly staff, making sure I had everything I needed. I can highly recommend the Wild Boar pie and the divine warm chocolate with caramel ice cream. Lunch for 4 today - booked for 1.00 pm. We were not immediately shown to our table, but encouraged to purchase drinks at the bar first - which we did. All chose main courses - 2 chose Roast pollock wrapped in pancetta, clam and mussel...

What a fantastic place, what polite people, what incredible food! We came here for my wife's birthday a few weeks ago and I had to come here to say how amazing this place is, it's worth the travel, it's worth the cost. Our waitress was amazing (I think she was new and a little unsure on some things but I've been there and know it can be a little overwhelming at first) she was a little nervous at first but opened up by the end and was quick to get whatever we asked for. The food is perfect. Good portions and very well presented. I can't wait to go back!
