This was our fifth visit since it has been upgraded by the new management. Food is lovely, but when the sun shines, the service and length to wait for food to arrive is poor! Arrived at 1.30 pm for a booking in the restaurant and waited until 3.00 for starters and mains at 4.00. Everyone was waiting for food in the restaurant for orders, as they seem they cannot cope with the restaurant, bar and then the added garden orders when the sun shines. It is disappointing that this has not improved since our last visit in June. The staff are good and keep apologising but when you have had a nice walk with children, they are hungry.

We have visited this place for years, that is before and after the refurbishment. It is true that the quirky and eccentric old place has gone which is a pity, but its been replaced by a venue that really takes quality as its main aim and for us, it reached it today. My only little grumble was despite the day being unseasonably mild outside, it was quite chilly in the restaurant (although a beautiful log fire purred away in the bar) For those who grumble about waiting for the food (a real issue in a limited such hour), maybe go and get a Big Mac. But I had time and prefer fresh quality food so didn't mind waiting

Nothing special, but really got to me that they are that snooty that they did not even have the decency to respond to a personal job application. Well if you like that sort of snobbery this is right up your street. EDIT: the thing is YOU had no decency, so as is indicated by my review here is that this hotel Is ran by stuck up snobs. In 2024 most employers have decent enough standards to show politeness and respect to future employees and staff as they are your source of income. YOU DON’T, so if you are a future customer that cares about the way hotels treat their staff and employees the message is clear and simple from your obnoxious response: DO NOT STAY OR DINE IN THIS PLACE AS THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARDS STAFF ARE DISGUSTING.

Stunning little find in Henley on Thames, booked the Flowerpot Hotel for a 2 night stay for a charity walk. However, due to an injury I decided to spending the weekend exploring Henley. The hotel is hidden on a very narrow road but it’s nice to be away from the main centre, and yet still close enough to town with a 9 minute drive. The drive to the hotel was a little surreal The rooms were stunning, very modern and clean as was the pub. We had a warm Welcome on arrival, the hotel was cosy and rooms were nicely furnished and very comfortable. Plenty of parking for guests and visitors We had the option of having breakfast, lunch and dinner in the pub, we had breakfast on the first day and bar snacks on our final evening stay. The open fire is lovely, the bar and dining area is spacious with plenty of outside seating during the summer weather. I will be visiting again next year and plan to stay at this hotel.

Lovely pub just off the beaten track. Very large beer garden and there is an overflow car park although it's not clearly marked. If the front car park is full trim left at the pub and immediately turn right....it looks like a private drive 30 meters but turn in to it and the overflow parking is on the right on a grassed area. We didn't eat but the food looked and smelt amazing. A great find and we only spotted it because of a road sigh on the main road pointing do the lane saying "public house" so look out for it

I stumbled upon this gem just a 15-minute walk from Hambleton Lock while out by the river. I stopped in for a quick pint and to see if it would be a good spot for a family visit, and I was thoroughly impressed. The ambiance exuded warmth and friendliness, with a cozy fire adding to the inviting atmosphere. The garden is truly delightful; I enjoyed my Guinness there, soaking in the lovely surroundings. Overall, it’s a great place with a wonderful vibe. I’ll definitely be returning soon for a family meal! I would add it's on the expensive side.

What a lovely Pub and gardens. This Pub is very friendly friendly and has a beautiful beer garden .In the garden they have created a great barbecue area and a lovely space for you to eat your meal. The only downside is the cost of the food which is extortionate. I have no doubt the owners will say the prices are commensurate with local pubs but they are not. It’s a real shame because as I sat in the garden admiring the view all I heard people talk about was how expensive it was which for me and my family spoilt the occasion .the staff were really friendly and when our food did arrive, I have to admit it did taste nice, but it is a big but the cost spoilt day day

The staff were sensitive to us being let down. Despite this they brought us plates ready for our main course - they went cold before our food arrived - but were replaced, We were upsold broccoli but thus came with a horrible spiced sauce. Ordered food from the bbq outside, mess up between staff who handed the same order number to ourselves and another customer. Came back with the food (that wasn’t ours) and explained this was more than we ordered/not our order. Man behind the bbq quite aggressively grabbed the ticket and said we wouldn’t be getting any food then and told another customer to go away. Eventually found our ticket with our correct order no apology. Bit blown away if it alright to talk to customers who are trying to rectify a fault by the staff. Very odd confrontational behaviour

The only reason for giving two stars and not one was because the staff member, Will, saved the day. Having booked a table more than a week before, we arrived at the restaurant to find that our booking had erroneously been booked by the restaurant for a week later (I have emails confirming this). Rather than trying to make a plan, Sasha (one of the most pathetic front-of-house individuals I've ever encountered) simply shrugged his shoulders. No apologies or attempts to find a solution, despite the fact that we were the first patrons to arrive. Even when HE pulled up my emails, with the Flower Pot's confirmation that the booking had been made, no apology or anything more than a shrug of his shoulders. Will (another staff member) arrived and immediately apologised when he saw that this was a Flower Pot mistake. He really tried to find a solution. And just the acknowledgement that there was a problem was a relief. My advice - Dismiss Sasha immediately as he's a liability to The Flower Pot! No customer-facing skills at all! Thank you Will for finding an amicable solution.

The pub by which all others will be judged. I'd run past this place on the Thames Path Ultra some years ago and thought what a charming place it looked. I finally made an excuse to book lunch as part of the beautiful National Trust Hambledon Lock to Henley River walk. The pub is beautiful: charming without being kitsche or 'Olde Worlde' cliche. The menu is short enough to allow the kitchen to focus on quality, but long enough to cater for all tastes, food intolerances and preferences. We skipped starters and went right to mains, having Cornish sea bass with a side salad and chips and a Nicoise salad. Each were exceptional, with my Nicoise's tuna steak still pink on the inside, beans and potatoes perfect done and eggs beautifully soft boiled. The localish Brakespeaks Gravity Drop was excellent and the impressive Dog Menu a first for me. In skipping the starters we'd made a conscious decision to leave room for puddings, which were were also exceptional. The warm flour-free brownie, with mandarin wedges, a reduced mandarin sauce and and vanilla ice cream was excellent. Even better was the playful and creative carrot cake, which came in a flowerpot with edible flowers, cinnamon infused baby carrots, and layers of sweetened marscarpone and gently spiced carrot cake. The garden was lovely and dog-friendly, the loos spotless and the service superb. In summary, flawless execution by a superb team. Expect London prices in these Shires, but the quality and value were well worth it.

I was really looking forward to celebrating my 70th birthday with family in August. We first booked the meal last December. We have confirmed the booking several times, including whilst we were there enjoying a meal a couple of weeks ago. We were asked to pre-order our meal choices 2 weeks beforehand as there were to be 19 of us, which we duly tried to do today. A manager has just phoned my wife telling her that they couldn't carry out the booking....making all sorts of excuses, including the fact that we hadn't made a deposit, for which we had never been asked. It was almost as if they were blaming us for them having to cancel. Very unsatisfactory. The Flower Pot used to be our favourite and goto eatery when we were in this area. NOT ANYMORE.

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at this pub. Despite their nice beer garden, I was not allowed to order from the menu after securing a table simply because I did not have a reservation. This policy is utterly ridiculous and ruined what could have been a pleasant visit. The staff were unhelpful and inflexible, showing no consideration for walk-in customers. It's a shame that such a nice setting is marred by such poor service. Avoid this place if you don't want your day ruined by arbitrary rules and unfriendly staff.

One of the worst luncheon experiences I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing, propagated by an incredibly rude staff that refused any form of accommodation. I am a local to the area and with my son visiting we wanted to share a Sunday roast. On arrival, there was a plethora of free tables; however, the "manager", Alexander, denied us seating in a very hostile manner, instead placing us on a small metallic table not suitable for a party of 3. For the remained of our stay, not only did all the tables remain free of occupation but we were also treated with extreme disrespect from all staff members, reflective of their neglectful disposition towards my family during our meal. One of the waitresses slammed the food on our table and the rest refused to even speak with us until we were forced to go to the bar to complain... The food was mediocre and the location was good, though for all those intending on visiting for a family meal please heed this warning of the Flower Pot's egregious service toward paying customers !

However, we could sit outside and buy from the BBQ. Considering we hadn’t made a booking this was disappointing, but fair enough. However, after we bought our drinks we went to order food at the BBQ and were told they’d ‘sold out’…Neither the staff member at the bar or at the BBQ seemed to care that they weren’t organised or communicating and then letting customers down. It’s pretty TT poor management to run out of food so early in the day…I’d recommend booking, but also heard people with bookings that items on the menu had sold out.

I like the new layout and the improved bar area. Let’s discuss our lunch … We had open sandwiches from the bar menu. My beef sarny was truly outstanding, and I’ll order it again. Angela’s salmon likewise. But it kind-of unravelled when charged 12 .5% service by default. I’d picked up our beers from the bar, and ordered food at the bar. My mistake was to ask for the bill at my table. It leaves an unpleasant legacy. Maybe I’ll try again, but I sure know to refuse “service” next time.

Also, we were told the rooms were fully booked so no chance of moving rooms. Disappointed!

A lovely venue for Sunday lunch. We ate in the bar. Drinkers apologized for the noise, but actually we enjoyed the camaraderie and the atmosphere, but if you did want a more formal atmosphere the dining room is more sophisticated. The meat was satisfactory, but the vegetables were cooked very well indeed - including Savoy cabbage which was not in the least overcooked or slimy - full marks. Highlight of the meal however was the dessert. (This reviewer never thought he would write that sentence.) Photos show carrot and clementine cake and passion fruit and banana Eton mess, both of which were delicious in an interesting, spicy and not oversweet way. Decent wine list. Not cheap, but nowhere in the Thames valley is if it's half decent. An easy 2 mile walk from Henley along the river which is a pleasant option on a Sunday when it's not raining.

Mr Chris Ballard has created a atmosphere of Traditional English County Pub. I truly enjoyed my Sunday Lunch with Roast potatoes and Gravy that will keep me coming back for More. Locals are friendly and service is Great. I Highly recommend The Flower Pot for any occasions.....!

NOW OPEN. Very happy with the renovation. Not taken away all the character inside and the outside is lovely. And Johny and Giles are still here doing an excellent job! Had food and it was really good. Best burger and fish n chips we've had in a long time.

Loved this pub before the renovation but now it’s even better. Had a fantastic sandwich and beer in a lovely location, definitely recommend combining with a walk along the Thames nearby.

Really busy on a summer day and maybe too busy for the number of staff. Roast was OK but nothing special. Shame...

We had pre-booked as a large walking group. The field at the back hadn’t been opened so parking was somewhat challenging. The place has undergone a refurbishment but has kept its authenticity. Although we were a large group we weren’t asked to pre-book lunch so we’re impressed that the food came out quickly & efficiently. Whilst it was more expensive than other venues it was tasty. The frustrating part was that the server refused to split the bill for each individual & when we painstakingly divided it up he still overcharged one of the members. It would have been more efficient if each member were able to pay at the time of ordering as lots of other venues do. That said, it is a lovely location for lunch after a riverside walk.

We were looking for a nice place for lunch for a group of seven. One of us found the flowerpot and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. The decor is pleasant and we found the service to be very good. Haven’t stayed there so can’t comment on the B&B, which is where there appears to be a few negative reviews, but if you just want a nice spot for lunch, then this is certainly one of the better options in and around Henley.

Loved the interior - the Flower Pot has new owners and I really like what they’ve done. It was a busy Sunday so I was a bit concerned that the kitchen might be stretched as there were even people sitting outside - in October - but I needn’t have been. My goat’s cheese starter and roast chicken was Delicious! Can’t describe it other ways. I even had a dessert which is unlike me - strawberry knickerbocker glory - I only managed half of as it was so big - sad to leave the other half . My hubby and friends were equally delighted. We will definitely be back.

Overwhelmed and unable to cope. A long wasted drive for lunch... they could not serve us lunch... because they could not cope on a sunny Saturday that had been projected to be a nice sunny day for at least a week beforehand. Even more annoyingly they put menus out so you could choose something that they obviously couldn't take orders for. It's way off the beaten path is this pub, so you have to make a special effort to get there. I doubt if I'll be making that special effort again anytime soon.

We have just returned from three nights stay at this lovely hotel. The rooms are lovely comfortable and clean. The owners and their staff are very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, a great choice of croissants, cereals, charcuterie board, fruit, yogurt, fruit juices and coffee. Dinner and Sunday lunch was equally good and the quality of food is excellent. Would definitely recommend and we will return.

Cute hotel and pub but the B&B experience was not up to guesthouse / hotel standards. Rooms are fine and modern, but pillows are too hard and too big. Most hotels have 2 pillows for guests to choose . A thin flatter one and a fat one. These were both fat, I woke up with neck pain. What ruined our experience was the fact that we came down for breakfast at 9:15 as agreed with staff the night before and there was no one there. No food served, just darkness. We had to wait for the manager to show up as he got caught in traffic. If you run a guesthouse you either live in the guesthouse or you show up an hour before you agree to serve breakfast to your guests. It was careless and lazy, not the British punctual hospitality one tends to find in the UK. When the manager finally showed up, it took a While to get the food which was served in installments, we had to wait for coffee to be served one by one, we had to ask for water, had to ask for bread, there was no butter no jam just pastries , fruit and cheese and charcuterie. How are we expected to eat these with no butter or jam or bread? Photos online show yogurt and cereal. We were not served these. We should have asked for some sort of refund for the breakfast unpunctuality and shortcomings. Definitely not worth £200 a night after that random poor breakfast experience. Disappointed as the place is cute and has a great vibe but the owners have no clue how to run a guesthouse. They should stick to the pub.

Avoid staying as a bed and breakfast. Hosts unwelcoming and no show for breakfast. When hosts eventually turn up despite agreeing time, no apology. Poor breakfast choice, no water or juice offered. No butter or jam with croissants. No cereal. Had to ask for bread. Don’t be fooled by nice decor - service counts for everything. Hosts very non plussed and need to rethink B&B proposition to be on hand for guests. Shame - it could be great.

Had a lovely walk on the towpath and ended up at this pub which is normally good for some pub food and a pint. Seems pub has changed hands and had a makeover. Looks good but unfortunately my eagerness was soon quashed by the completely disinterested bar manager - who once he’d taken his eyes away from the Ryder Cup on the TV - was reluctant to serve us and said no food today unless you’ve booked. It was 1pm and barely anyone was eating. Did not see any covers leave the kitchen and loads of families, hikers siting in garden eating crisps and drinking pints. Total attitude was ‘can’t be arsed’ and what a shame for a lovely pub in a lovely spot. Decent pint 8/10 Bar staff 1/10 - he needs to visit charm school

I was very excited to come here after the recent renovation, and rarely write reviews, however I am sad to report that the atmosphere is extremely unfriendly. In 2023 it is frankly unbelievable that there is still essentially a mens’ only bar at the front of the pub which gets preferential service. Many of these men can only be described as thugs. One of these clientele (grey slicked back hair, brown boots and a black jacket) was incredibly nasty and deliberately trod on my dog (which had done nothing to provoke him) saying ‘get out of the way’ under his breath. I understand that not everyone likes dogs but being deliberately cruel to animals is frankly unforgivable, especially in a rural environment where many people have dogs. I will never return which is a great shame as this is a beautiful newly-renovated pub in a wonderful location.

Me and my family dropped in for dinner for a quick pint and dinner. We were promptly seated with no booking straight away with excellent service. Not only was the food amazing with the service, we were given a 20% discount!. We only noticed after we left and didn’t get a chance to thank the serving team. Thanks guys we had an amazing time!
