Five of us for a Saturday lunch based on numerous small dishes all of which we enjoyed. Focaccia, sweetcorn fritters, cured salmon, ham croquettes, anchovy toast, pheasant and steak were all delicious. In addition I had the Hispi cabbage and the fried sprouts which whilst tasty might not have been the wisest choice. Drinks are undeniably expensive with modest bottles of wine around £45 and small cans of in-house lager at £6. Service was really very good - friendly and efficient. It’s certainly popular with every table taken during our visit. We’ll worth a visit.

Went for a late lunch and ordered all the sides to share...absolutely delicious food. Such a range of interesting flavours. It looks like the menu changes regularly which makes sense as it's not a big menu but everything looked fabulous. We were all happy with our food. The shaved cauliflower salad was amazing, as were the green and confit potatoes. Friendly service and a very small voluntary charity contribution, which is great. Very happy.

My partner and I recently attended The Flint House as part of their OctoberBEST Set Menu promotion. The staff were incredibly attentive and amicable. It seemed every staff member we spoke to was aware of our dietary requirements, making me feel safe and at ease despite my allergy being a component of one of the dishes. To start we had house focaccia with garlic and parsley butter, a modern twist on the classic bread basket. Both components of this dish were delicious, and if we could purchase either on our way out we would have. We then enjoyed a trio of amuse bouche comprising Beetroot & Goats Cheese Croquette, Ham Croquette and Sweet corn fritter, all served with their own bespoke flavored mayonnaises. We loved these as they were flavourful, light and fluffy. Our only comment was that a little additional salt would set the corn fritter alive and the goats cheese was a funky as a Friday night at Casablanca's! Not for the faint of heart! For our main we enjoyed the Soy and BBQ Braised Short Rib served with Creamy Mash and Red Cabbage Slaw. This dish was impeccable. As a salt loving girly, this ticked all my boxes! However, for my partner, who is a tad salt-averse, he did find the soy braise a little much. I think a larger portion of the red cabbage slaw, or even a braised red cabbage with added sweetness and spice, could certainly assist those who don't have the perfect palate that I boast. The finale was a Lemon and Blackberry Posset served with White Chocolate Brazil Nuts and Cream. The posset was perfectly set and beautifully sharp, with the blackberry and cream there to support. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, the maître d was welcoming and polite, and all other staff we encountered were wonderfully pleasant. Overall, we had a fantastic evening and would very much recommend The Flint House.

French couple visiting Brighton, we wanted to have dinner around 7:30 p.m. in this restaurant but we were told there would be a 40-minute wait even though the bar (10x2 seats) and several tables of 2 or more people were free. The host insisted that the restaurant was overbooked even though it was almost empty and didn't even offer us a drink while we waited. It’s clear that this restaurant that snubs customers when it’s almost empty is overestimating its reputation. It is very likely that the same is true for the quality of its cuisine and wines.

This is usually one of our favourite places to visit as the food is exceptional. A table was booked for my birthday weeks in advance and instead, we were shown to very uncomfortable bar stools and was told this was considered one of the tables. For a resturant where multiple dishes are advised, there just wasn't the space and clearly the restaurant had been overbooked and we were being pressured to take subpar seating. The front of house staff were incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful. What a shame!

Decided to try this restaurant for lunch … what a find! We ate upstairs … very spacious eating area … very attentive staff. The food is very different. Starters were a series of very interesting small plates … the raw courgettes with pine nuts with roasted garlic was very refreshing. The lamb and steak mains were excellent and check the fried greens! We also had a few carafes of wine … a wide set of options. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for a desert. Not the cheapest but … you get what you pay for!

We've been many times before and always rated the food and service, but today was a disappointment. Maybe 2pm on a bank holiday Monday is a poor choice of time - it was memorable for the wrong reasons. The food was good as ever, but for the price, this should be accompanied by good service. Our waiter was slow and a bit clueless. Perhaps he was new, but there did not appear to be anybody overseeing him. Despite the fact they were not busy and the waiting staff had time to stand around and chat, every time we wanted another drink or order it was such an effort. At one point towards the end of our visit, I reluctantly took the decision to call out and interrupt two waiting staff who were busy chatting, as we had been waiting for ten mins to order a drink. This was met by resistance and rudeness, particularly by one waitress who was full of attitude the entire time. We also had to constantly request our empty plates and glasses were removed. The staff simply did not have a good eye on their tables - such a shame. One lady who served us once at the end of our visit was great, thank goodness, but it was only after we'd had to ask yet again. The toilets were disgusting - urine on the loo seats and floor and supplies running empty - clearly not being checked. I appreciate it had probably been a very busy lunch service for them, and I am sure some of the staff must had worked very hard, but we didn't witness that. We just received poor service at at high price with a service charge. Flint House, you'll need to buck up a bit in this competitive market as your regulars will walk...

We've just been to The Flint House for my birthday lunch, and what a wonderful lunch it was. I'm wheat intolerant and often wary about eating out, especially in nicer restaurants. The waiter made adjustments to the chefs menu so we could still choose that and I didn't feel like I was missing out. My husband's favourite plate was the BBQ mackerel and mine was the slow cooked lamb shoulder. All of the plates were delicious though. Thank you to the waiters for making my birthday even more special. Second visit: It was a busy Wednesday evening at the restaurant. Service was slower than it had been previously and the room was noisier. We felt the dishes didn't live up to our expectations from our last visit, but were still very tasty. It was a lovely evening but unfortunately not as good as our last visit

Been here a few times and enjoyed very much. This time found some of the dishes rather greasy. Corn fritters were greasy and tasted like the oil needed changing, a bit like a bad doughnut from the pier. Some of the dishes were a bit slimy. Chicken was just cooked and a bit bloody in places. Lamb was nice but again tasted a bit greasy. On top of all this was mistakenly charged an extra, wait for it, £100! I nearly paid this but decided to check the bill. Mistakes happen but the staff seemed to take offence at my questioning this. I got a rather sarcastic bye as I left from the women behind the till. There’s a lot of other nice restaurants in Brighton. Coal shed, salt room, burnt orange. Try these instead. Just to add, the waiter we had to start with was excellent. He was attentive and friendly. It’s these dedicated people that make or break these restaurants.

Hubby arranged a secret day trip to Brighton (from Loughborough so quite a trek for a day but doable by train) including lunch here. It was fabulous and we would definitely be regulars if we lived closer. It was certainly my type of menu as although I’m not veggie I don’t eat a lot of meat and like vegetarian dishes, of which there was plenty. We had 7 dishes between us for mains and 2 1/2 puds - the 1/2 being the fudge which we couldn’t resist trying. Stand out dishes were the sweet corn fritters, croquettes, hispi cabbage, chicken thighs and the white chocolate mousse (from the specials) which was imo a perfect pud! We also had a carafe of English rose (gorgeous and really appreciated being given a taste first when we enquired what type of rose it was) and hubby had a mocktail. I’m always a fan of the carafe option which you don’t find very often in England. £118 including service charge which we thought was fair given the quality of food and drink. Top notch service too from the whole team.

Each one is presented beautifully but without too much fuss, and all tastes very good. Our surprise favourite was the salted cod dish. Also, the corn fritters had the best corn taste I’ve ever had in fritters. I highly recommend the Sea Breeze mocktail too. Had a fantastic lunch here on Saturday. A great wine menu too. The lamb was succulent and the aubergine was very tasty. Only disappointment, and the reason for me not giving the service a 5 star was that we booked a table on the outdoor terrace weeks before our reservation and was told that that they would book a table for us outside and inside too just in case the weather was bad. However when we arrived we were told in a rather unapologetic abrupt manner that we couldn’t sit outside because there wasn’t a table available out there, even though we’d booked one. Surely a simple reserved sign on the table would have been a simple solution. The reason we had booked this was due to it having outdoor dining. We would have gone elsewhere.

This is a very romantic setting with low level lighting and intimately placed tables with a view of the cobbled street below. The bar is a definite eye catcher. Each course serves two different dishes for you and your partner to share. The wines were perfectly matched. I wasn’t keen on the celeriac dish but inly because I am not keen on celeriac, the dish itself was beautifully presented and my husband enjoyed it. Favourite course has got to be the cajun prawns, so tasty and no fiddling with shells. I also surprisingly enjoyed the wedge salad- it was so refreshing.

I must express my profound disappointment with the dining experience at this establishment, despite the positive reviews it has received. Our group of six, gathered to celebrate a friend's birthday, encountered a series of unfortunate incidents that marred the evening. To begin with, the waiter's demeanor was nothing short of passive-aggressive, bordering on deliberate annoyance. His insistence that we order all courses simultaneously, despite our preference to start with appetizers and decide on mains later, was exasperating and unheard of in any reputable dining establishment. My personal experience with the food only exacerbated the situation. Upon ordering the slow-roasted lamb, I was dismayed to find a strand of hair on my plate. While such mishaps can occur, the manner in which it was handled was wholly unsatisfactory. Bringing back the same plate within a mere two minutes, clearly indicating that the offending hair had not been properly addressed, was utterly unacceptable, particularly for a restaurant purportedly of higher quality. In light of these experiences, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone. The combination of subpar service and food hygiene issues renders it unworthy of patronage. I would strongly advise others to seek dining alternatives, as I have no intention of returning, even under the most dire circumstances.

Dinner in a modern bar and restaurant situated within the maze of the Brighton Lanes. Upstairs is the bar where you can have a pre-dinner drink. Downstairs is what we have come for Obvs. There's a counter-level bar that gives you a front-row view as plates upon small plates of dishes are prepped, made, and walked from the kitchen to the table. Their menu has quite a varied choice, from snacks and small plates to a five-course Chef’s menu. For 2 to share 50pp / 70pp with wine pairing. We couldn't decide what to have, so we went for the Chefs menu. Just to be awkward,we asked to change one of the dishes to a preferred alternative. After the server had a little discussion with the chef, he nodded. We didn't have the wine pairing as we both have different tastes. Instead of having a glass or a bottle, you can have a 375ml carafe. One white, one red, please. This also saves on having to catch the eye of your server to order another glass. This is a great way of dining out as you get to try different dishes off the menu that you probably wouldn't have ordered or would have missed. Speaking of which, the very first dish was a very pretty looking Sweet Potato Crisp, Courgette, Sage, Pomegranate followed by Bream Ceviche, Orange, Coriander, Jalapeño. Then comes a couple of tasty snacks,Sweetcorn Fritters & Ham and Gruyere croquettes. Next up is the dish we swapped to Roasted Cod,Thai Green Curry Sauce,Vermicelli Noodle, Thai Basil. That comes with a Radicchio, Anchovy, and Parmesan Salad accompaniment. The main dish was Slow Roast Lamb Shoulder, crushed peas, feta, mint,Satay Squash, picked chilli, Peanuts, Coriander with the most outrageous Confit Potato, Black Pepper Aioli. Dessert of Chocolate Parfait, Vanilla Poached Pear, Praline Crème Diplomat. Dark Chocolate and Brown Butter Fudge, Cocoa Nib. Service was very friendly, and the food was spot on. All dishes were served at pace from an open kitchen. Time flew by as we were mesmerised watching all the busy chefs prepare the dishes.

Soooo good. I’m honestly quite hard to please but the Flint House was really great. Went for an early dinner with a friend and all the staff were lovely and welcoming, they happily switched out the gin for tequila in my negroni with no fuss. Great guidance on food selection and quantities required. Good wine list, and good knowledge about it on the part of the staff too. If you like oysters you have to try the gochujang ones they have on, so so tasty. Although to be fair every dish was really good. Creme brûlée doughnut was spectacular. My only tiny gripe is that they had a miscommunication about the dessert wine we ordered to go with it so we needed up not having that but they were so lovely about it that it didn’t matter. Plus that doughnut was so good I’ll almost certainly pop back in just for a lunchtime treat of that and the Riesling at some point so will get to try the pairing anyway!

We had an absolutely stunning meal here for valentine's day. We did the chefs menu. Each course was spaced out and there was a lot of food but it was such a relaxed and elongated service that we didn't feel like we'd eaten too much at once despite it being a big meal. We were at our table for two hours, it was such a lovely experience to not feel rushed. The stand out course was the BBQ mackerel with the radichio, anchovy and parmesan salad, and also the desert was outstanding. Can't wait to come again - a new favourite for us, for sure.

My girlfriend and I visited for the first time for Valentine's Day having heard good things. We went for an early dinner, lovely service and attentive staff as soon as we entered. They answered all of our questions about the menu and offered recommendations. We had a completely vegetarian meal, there were lots of options. We ordered for starters: Corn fritters - These went down a storm, my favourite dish of the night Focaccia - Delicious For mains: Cauliflower with pistachio pesto - Girlfriend says "scrumptious and unusual." Hispe cabbage - The flavours were delicious, if a little lost in the bulk of it, the crispy onion is a great addition Confit potato, black pepper alioli - Both of us loved these, they were just the right size as they're quite salty, they have a delightful crunch Fried greens, padron peppers - Another favourite of the night, really great flavours and the nuts work brilliantly For dessert we had: Blue cheese crumpet - This was thoroughly enjoyed by my girlfriend, she raved about it Chocolate parfait and poached pear - This was a bit too salty, with big flakes of sea salt that were overpowering. The menu should say that it comes covered in hazelnuts as I may have chosen a different option if I'd known. The pear was tasty Though and the parfait itself was nice. Overall we left really happy with our experience. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere lovely though maybe next time I would ask for a table upstairs rather than by the front door.

Service and atmosphere great. Let down a litle on the food - lots of fried bits - careful ordering recommended.

Very nice food and friendly service, comprehensive drinks menu and a nice atmosphere. Expensive, but no more so than equivalent spots in brighton. However, the menu (specifically the portion sizing) needs much simplification. Our lovely waiter took at least 90 seconds just to explain the different types of plates and - despite all members of our party ordering from the same part of the menu - we all ended up with vastly different quantities of food. Is it small plates? Is it fine dining? This part just felt a bit confused. Nevertheless, it was very tasty.

All around great restaurant in the Lanes in Brighton. Large menu with a variety of delicious dishes. I had the radicchio salad, bream ceviche, and pork schnitzel -- all were very well made, delicious, and I would order again. Definitely a strong recommendation for this place. You'll enjoy!

Very good quality food but the main dishes have the size of starters so ends up being totally overpriced. We ended up having to buy a sandwich and fries as we were still very hungry when we left. The portion of cod they put in your plate is about the third of what you get in a pub for the same price.

This restaurant is superb. We ate at the bar, food was quickly supplied but the quality was out of this world. One of the nicest things we had was confit of potatoes. That was amazing. This is small plate modern Spanish tapas. Service was impeccable. Its a real treat.

Visited The Flint House after moving to Brighton, having heard wonderful things. We had the chef's menu to ensure we got a wide range of flavours and it did not disappoint. The bream ceviche was sensational and I'd go back for that alone, but of course I wouldn't be able to resist the other gems on the menu like the ham and gruyere croquettes! The cocktail selection was great and the location couldn't be more central.

Still our favourite restaurant in Brighton. I am a vegetarian, my partner flexi - so many choices and nice to have delicious thought through vegetarian dishes that aren't just meat substitutes (thank you Chefs!). VGO and GF options too. Always a better visit when we get to see Leo the manager. Staff are friendly, its informal but superb food and drinks.

I visited in Dec for dinner. The food was fabulous. I liked the small portions with the emphasis on quality vs. quantity. The service was excellent. A significant number of the seats are bar style hence if your party is more than three make your you book a table

I never ate here unfortunately as the manager messaged me at 9pm the night before to say the system hadn’t reserved our table. Obviously system failures happen, and I appreciated that. He offered 2 other available times so I called back the next day to move it to the time offered, just to be told over the phone that there was in fact no table reserved for us still! A group of 6 came down from London especially for it. Very disappointing.

Food was tasteless and they brought it barely warmed, also you cant swap anything, non existing service but the service charge already included in the bill, table felt sticky , cutlery full of fingerprints and sticky
