¡No podemos esperar a volver!

The waiter said outright that if we were hungry, one dish and a salad would not be enough, to which we had to answer that we do not eat much. There was a mistake in the prices on the menu and in the bill. The food was average, nothing amazing

Esperamos volver!

Nothing to write home about. We recently had dinner at this place, excited to finally try somewhere with such a good reputation. Sadly, it was disappointing and we couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. The service was weird. The waiter we had was over-friendly and poked fun at us, thinking he was being cheeky but it was just rude. The place is small plates only but the portions are unpredictable - some were huge, some microscopic. The food itself was very salty and oily, not well seasoned and most hot dishes came out cold or tepid. The drinks were fine but very over-priced. The bill was astronomical which just made the whole thing more frustrating. Left hungry and had a pizza on the way home. Very disappointing, not recommended.

We had our first time here on NYE for lunch. It was myself my mum and my daughter. We were definitely parked quite far away because we had a child (9yo) with us. I get it, you don't want potentially noisy kids near everyone else. But we did get a bit forgotten. I mentioned to a waitress that we'd had nothing for 45 mins and suddenly we got everything, and the lovely waitress was then super friendly and kind. The food was delicious and it was a great fun place. But if you are parking kids down the far end, show them a bit of love! Will definitely be back, am not whinging for the sake of it!

The Flint House, situated in the heart of Brighton's historic Lanes, has rapidly become a culinary landmark since its opening in 2019. Part of the esteemed Gingerman Restaurant Group led by Ben and Pamela McKellar, this establishment diverges from their traditional "Ginger" branding, offering a fresh and modern dining experience. **Ambiance and Design** Housed in a purpose-built, two-story brick building, The Flint House boasts a contemporary design that harmonizes with the historic charm of its surroundings. The ground floor features an open kitchen with counter seating, providing diners an intimate view of the culinary craftsmanship. Upstairs, a chic dining room and cocktail bar extend to a rooftop terrace, offering panoramic views of Brighton's rooftops—a perfect setting for both casual meals and special occasions. **Culinary Offerings** The menu at The Flint House is a testament to the McKellars' commitment to quality and innovation. Emphasizing small and sharing plates, the offerings draw inspiration from global cuisines while spotlighting local produce. Dishes are categorized under sections like "RAW/CURED," "FRIED/TOAST/SNACKS," and main selections of meat, fish, and vegetables. This structure encourages a communal dining experience, allowing guests to explore a variety of flavors in one sitting. Signature dishes have garnered praise for their simplicity and depth of flavor. The sweetcorn fritters with jalapeño mayonnaise, a staple since the restaurant's inception, are celebrated for their crispy texture and spicy kick. Another standout is the toasted treacle bread adorned with Ortiz anchovies and pickled lemon—a harmonious blend of umami and tang. The inclusion of premium ingredients, such as Hannan's salt-aged beef from Northern Ireland, underscores the restaurant's dedication to excellence. **Beverage Selection** Complementing the culinary delights is a thoughtfully curated wine list, featuring a range of selections available by the glass. Notably, the first-floor cocktail bar showcases local offerings, including sparkling wines from Ridgeview, enhancing the dining experience with regional flavors. **Service and Atmosphere** The Flint House is renowned for its lively and welcoming atmosphere. The open kitchen design fosters a sense of engagement, allowing diners to witness the meticulous preparation of their meals. The staff are frequently commended for their professionalism and warmth, contributing to an overall dining experience that is both relaxed and refined. **Critical Acclaim** The restaurant has received accolades from both patrons and critics. Jay Rayner of The Guardian lauded it for delivering "solid dishes that don't sacrifice substance for looks," highlighting the balance between presentation and flavor. Additionally, The Flint House has been recognized with a Bib Gourmand in the MICHELIN Guide, denoting good quality and good value cooking. **Conclusion** In summary, The Flint House stands as a vibrant addition to Brighton's dining scene, seamlessly blending modern culinary trends with a steadfast commitment to quality. Its inventive menu, coupled with a dynamic atmosphere and attentive service, makes it a must-visit destination for both locals and visitors seeking a memorable gastronomic experience.

Five of us for a Saturday lunch based on numerous small dishes all of which we enjoyed. Focaccia, sweetcorn fritters, cured salmon, ham croquettes, anchovy toast, pheasant and steak were all delicious. In addition I had the Hispi cabbage and the fried sprouts which whilst tasty might not have been the wisest choice. Drinks are undeniably expensive with modest bottles of wine around £45 and small cans of in-house lager at £6. Service was really very good - friendly and efficient. It’s certainly popular with every table taken during our visit. We’ll worth a visit.

My partner and I recently attended The Flint House as part of their OctoberBEST Set Menu promotion. The staff were incredibly attentive and amicable. It seemed every staff member we spoke to was aware of our dietary requirements, making me feel safe and at ease despite my allergy being a component of one of the dishes. To start we had house focaccia with garlic and parsley butter, a modern twist on the classic bread basket. Both components of this dish were delicious, and if we could purchase either on our way out we would have. We then enjoyed a trio of amuse bouche comprising Beetroot & Goats Cheese Croquette, Ham Croquette and Sweet corn fritter, all served with their own bespoke flavored mayonnaises. We loved these as they were flavourful, light and fluffy. Our only comment was that a little additional salt would set the corn fritter alive and the goats cheese was a funky as a Friday night at Casablanca's! Not for the faint of heart! For our main we enjoyed the Soy and BBQ Braised Short Rib served with Creamy Mash and Red Cabbage Slaw. This dish was impeccable. As a salt loving girly, this ticked all my boxes! However, for my partner, who is a tad salt-averse, he did find the soy braise a little much. I think a larger portion of the red cabbage slaw, or even a braised red cabbage with added sweetness and spice, could certainly assist those who don't have the perfect palate that I boast. The finale was a Lemon and Blackberry Posset served with White Chocolate Brazil Nuts and Cream. The posset was perfectly set and beautifully sharp, with the blackberry and cream there to support. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, the maître d was welcoming and polite, and all other staff we encountered were wonderfully pleasant. Overall, we had a fantastic evening and would very much recommend The Flint House.

French couple visiting Brighton, we wanted to have dinner around 7:30 p.m. in this restaurant but we were told there would be a 40-minute wait even though the bar (10x2 seats) and several tables of 2 or more people were free. The host insisted that the restaurant was overbooked even though it was almost empty and didn't even offer us a drink while we waited. It’s clear that this restaurant that snubs customers when it’s almost empty is overestimating its reputation. It is very likely that the same is true for the quality of its cuisine and wines.

This is usually one of our favourite places to visit as the food is exceptional. A table was booked for my birthday weeks in advance and instead, we were shown to very uncomfortable bar stools and was told this was considered one of the tables. For a resturant where multiple dishes are advised, there just wasn't the space and clearly the restaurant had been overbooked and we were being pressured to take subpar seating. The front of house staff were incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful. What a shame!

We've been many times before and always rated the food and service, but today was a disappointment. Maybe 2pm on a bank holiday Monday is a poor choice of time - it was memorable for the wrong reasons. The food was good as ever, but for the price, this should be accompanied by good service. Our waiter was slow and a bit clueless. Perhaps he was new, but there did not appear to be anybody overseeing him. Despite the fact they were not busy and the waiting staff had time to stand around and chat, every time we wanted another drink or order it was such an effort. At one point towards the end of our visit, I reluctantly took the decision to call out and interrupt two waiting staff who were busy chatting, as we had been waiting for ten mins to order a drink. This was met by resistance and rudeness, particularly by one waitress who was full of attitude the entire time. We also had to constantly request our empty plates and glasses were removed. The staff simply did not have a good eye on their tables - such a shame. One lady who served us once at the end of our visit was great, thank goodness, but it was only after we'd had to ask yet again. The toilets were disgusting - urine on the loo seats and floor and supplies running empty - clearly not being checked. I appreciate it had probably been a very busy lunch service for them, and I am sure some of the staff must had worked very hard, but we didn't witness that. We just received poor service at at high price with a service charge. Flint House, you'll need to buck up a bit in this competitive market as your regulars will walk...

We've just been to The Flint House for my birthday lunch, and what a wonderful lunch it was. I'm wheat intolerant and often wary about eating out, especially in nicer restaurants. The waiter made adjustments to the chefs menu so we could still choose that and I didn't feel like I was missing out. My husband's favourite plate was the BBQ mackerel and mine was the slow cooked lamb shoulder. All of the plates were delicious though. Thank you to the waiters for making my birthday even more special. Second visit: It was a busy Wednesday evening at the restaurant. Service was slower than it had been previously and the room was noisier. We felt the dishes didn't live up to our expectations from our last visit, but were still very tasty. Been here a few times and enjoyed very much. This time found some of the dishes rather greasy. Corn fritters were greasy and tasted like the oil needed changing, a bit like a bad doughnut from the pier. Some of the dishes were a bit slimy. Chicken was just cooked and a bit bloody in places. Lamb was nice but again tasted a bit greasy. On top of all this was mistakenly charged an extra, wait for it, £100! I nearly paid this but decided to check the bill. Mistakes happen but the staff seemed to take offence at my questioning this. I got a rather sarcastic bye as I left from the women behind the till. There’s a lot of other nice restaurants in Brighton. Coal shed, salt room, burnt orange. Try these instead. Just to add, the waiter we had to start with was excellent. He was attentive and friendly. It’s these dedicated people that make or break these restaurants.

Hubby arranged a secret day trip to Brighton (from Loughborough so quite a trek for a day but doable by train) including lunch here. It was fabulous and we would definitely be regulars if we lived closer. It was certainly my type of menu as although I’m not veggie I don’t eat a lot of meat and like vegetarian dishes, of which there was plenty. We had 7 dishes between us for mains and 2 1/2 puds - the 1/2 being the fudge which we couldn’t resist trying. Stand out dishes were the sweet corn fritters, croquettes, hispi cabbage, chicken thighs and the white chocolate mousse (from the specials) which was imo a perfect pud! We also had a carafe of English rose (gorgeous and really appreciated being given a taste first when we enquired what type of rose it was) and hubby had a mocktail. I’m always a fan of the carafe option which you don’t find very often in England. £118 including service charge which we thought was fair given the quality of food and drink. Top notch service too from the whole team.

The chocolate parfait was superb, nicely accompanied by smooth praline and pears. Other dishes weren't quite up there, but we finished every scrap. Good service and wine suggestions.

Had a fantastic lunch here on Saturday. A great wine menu too. The lamb was succulent and the aubergine was very tasty. Only disappointment, and the reason for me not giving the service a 5 star was that we booked a table on the outdoor terrace weeks before our reservation and was told that that they would book a table for us outside and inside too just in case the weather was bad. However when we arrived we were told in a rather unapologetic abrupt manner that we couldn’t sit outside because there wasn’t a table available out there, even though we’d booked one. Surely a simple reserved sign on the table would have been a simple solution. The reason we had booked this was due to it having outdoor dining. We would have gone elsewhere.

Reservation for 3pm. Not busy restaurant. Food arrived 3.45pm after we requested status. Ordered the chicken with potatoes. The chicken portion was tiny and the potatoes huge. Would have expected some advice before taking the order. No apologies or offers of a discount. Have been here on quite a few occasions over the years since it opened and it's definitely gone downhill. We would have ordered a second carafe but decided to go somewhere else . Rarely request gratuity removed but sadly felt like it was necessary. No reaction but the usual have a nice day from staff on the way out!

We visited as a couple and went for the chefs 5 course taster menu with wine. This is a very romantic setting with low level lighting and intimately placed tables with a view of the cobbled street below. The bar is a definite eye catcher. Each course serves two different dishes for you and your partner to share. The wines were perfectly matched. I wasn’t keen on the celeriac dish but inly because I am not keen on celeriac, the dish itself was beautifully presented and my husband enjoyed it. Favourite course has got to be the cajun prawns, so tasty and no fiddling with shells. I also surprisingly enjoyed the wedge salad- it was so refreshing.

This is a good looking place and should have been a joy but a combination of food being cold and slow service took the edge off. Staff were friendly enough but overall if you are serving 'small plates' aka posh tapas then bring the dishes out as they are ready and maybe they won't go cold. I won't be rushing back.

This was my 4th or 5th visit to The Flint House. The food is delicious and never disappoints. Service is very professional and the small plates somehow all manage to come out in the right order and intervals! Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Brighton.

The two of us had the chef’s tasting menu with wine and mocktail pairing (I don’t drink at moment!) and it was amazing. We were well looked after by the friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

Had a really lovely evening in The Flint House. The food is top notch and the service is friendly and professional. Everything we ate was delicious. The chef’s menu is a well balanced set of dishes that left us feeling full, but not stuffed and very happy. It’s complemented perfectly by the wine pairing.

Can't fault it at all - all the food was beautiful, and the Welshman I dined with declared the lamb to be the best he'd ever tasted.

Absouletly incredible non-alcholic cocktails, hit the spot for those pregnancy cravings!! I had an alcholic bloody mary and honestly, you couldn't tell the difference. The front of house team were so attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Next time we're in Brighton we'll be back for sure, as we only had a couple small plates so want to try some more dishes.

I must express my profound disappointment with the dining experience at this establishment, despite the positive reviews it has received. Our group of six, gathered to celebrate a friend's birthday, encountered a series of unfortunate incidents that marred the evening. To begin with, the waiter's demeanor was nothing short of passive-aggressive, bordering on deliberate annoyance. His insistence that we order all courses simultaneously, despite our preference to start with appetizers and decide on mains later, was exasperating and unheard of in any reputable dining establishment. My personal experience with the food only exacerbated the situation. Upon ordering the slow-roasted lamb, I was dismayed to find a strand of hair on my plate. While such mishaps can occur, the manner in which it was handled was wholly unsatisfactory. Bringing back the same plate within a mere two minutes, clearly indicating that the offending hair had not been properly addressed, was utterly unacceptable, particularly for a restaurant purportedly of higher quality. In light of these experiences, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone. The combination of subpar service and food hygiene issues renders it unworthy of patronage. I would strongly advise others to seek dining alternatives, as I have no intention of returning, even under the most dire circumstances.

I visited this evening with my partner for his birthday. I exchanged a few emails with a lovely lady called Nefeli who was so helpful. Our food was delicious - we were served by two ladies. One in particular (I believe she was Spanish) was chatty and attentive (but not too much). We have a wonderful evening and we will certainly be coming back.

Part of the Ginger Group. Small plates, but mains are actually generous! All the dishes were good but the sea bream carpaccio and the cod main were standout. Roast cauliflower was plentiful. Worth a detour! Carafes of wine available.

We stumbled upon the Flint House and we did not have reservations. They set us up at the counter which provides a full view of the kitchen. We decided on the tasting menu with wine pairing as it's a small plate menu. The menu was outstanding. Each dish presented a new set of wonderful flavours. My favorite was the lamb over smashed minty peas. We tried to take pictures of each course before starting but got ahead of ourselves on a few of them. We travel a lot and always seek interesting places for dinner. This was one the top places we have found.

Have had the pleasure of eating here several times a year since they first opened. The food never fails to delight. Always fresh and very tasty. But the thing that amazes me most of all is the staff. I don't know how they recruit or train their staff but whatever it is that they do they have absolutely nailed it. Without exception I have always found their staff welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Special shout out today to Javier - enjoy your trip home to Cadiz.

Lovely, lovely cafe to go and have breakfast lunch or tea in. The people who work there are so nice and the service is great as is the food. Had a bacon sandwich which was the nicest have ever had as the bread was fluffy and the bacon cooked so nicely it took it onto a whole new level. They always have beautiful cards and artwork and things for sale ~ reminded me that I need to go there for Christmas gifts as it’s so lovely to get a handcrafted local artist item for not a lot ~ and it makes for such a personal present Bought a Brighton calendar and also a piece of framed art of the pier for a friend as a gift and am so pleased with them both. Note to self to go there for presents as well as a yummy stop off for some delicious food and drinks. Thank you 🙏

This guy pub looks a bit shabby and smells like a grandma’s house but the food was super delicious, very hearty.
