Unfortunately this wonderfully situated pub seems to be no more. There is a fir sale sign on the building and it's closed. Did some online sleuthing and it was bought by someone who wanted to do it up a d reopen it. But that seems to have fallen by the way side. When a contact email was sent a query about what was happening the reply was when we are know, we will update on all media. Such a shame. There is a pebbly beach there, a car park and public loos. When it was a going concern it served lovely fish and chips. So don't go on the off chance as presently it's not open. I guess wait till they update their media.

The worst location and such a nuisance to get to. The photos of the accommodation does not look like the rooms. The shower is tiny. It is a child sized door you have to get through. Ok too if that, squeaky floor boards and no option for food unless they are hosting an event. Breakfast, they give you a form to fill out asking what you want, but it’s the same thing. Don’t bother asking for extras as you’re met with ‘ I have to see my stock.’ Really poor service. Please don’t be fooled by the ‘lovely reviews’ as I genuinely feel they are not genuine. Parking is NOT available and you have to pay per day to park on the beach however, you can’t park on the beach overnight, so then you have to find somewhere else to go. For £135 per night, for ALL room types regardless of size and number of occupants. It isn’t worth it at all. The host Lou seems to make efforts in making her guests comfortable but is very patronising and makes you feel really small. Definitely wouldn’t recommend or book here ever again.

Second visit in a week. Pizza night! The pizza was amazing, we all agreed better then many Italian restaurants we've been too. Staff sofriendly and accommodating, locals lovely. Honestly not the best. We tried to visit a week before, to find the doors closed up. This was 1pm on a Saturday afternoon!!? Despite online and their company facebook site saying open! This seems to be regular. The current manager only seems to open when she feels like it. We did return, to be told they’re only serving pizzas. Which were pretty standard, absolutely not worth the £12.50 I paid for it! Staff seem miserable and the manager just rude. Would not recommend visiting. We will be taking our custom to a much better restaurant/inn we found nearby!

We were staying locally and thought it would be good to get a takeaway, we ordered a pepperoni pizza and was shocked by the cost at £11.50 but accepted it as we are on holiday, the next night we ordered 3 portions of chips to take away and couldn’t believe it when we came to pay as these were £5 a portion! and it was a very small portion! I appreciate that the cost of things have increased but £5 for chips is ridiculous, I think they are charging whatever they like as there is no where else to eat in Porthallow so if you don’t want to drive you have no option. We will not be visiting again with those prices.

What a terrible service, made to feel like a burden by a landlady who clearly isn't coping albeit less than ten people in the pub and there was a waitress as well. Atmosphere was soulless from the pub we remember from some years ago- total destruction of what was an interesting, friendly and proper seaside pub. Hoping this changes back by our next visit- we come down every few years. How to wreck a pub...strip it of its antiquities, friendly staff and fun atmosphere and replace it with cold paints and bright lights (as if it were a city pub), add rude and aggressive staff (who's language is foul) and bingo, you have the pub as it is today- someone rewind the clock please as this was one of the few pubs left on the lizard that had character and soul. one Star just not deserved

A proper pub. Fabulous location right on the beach. There is something heart warming when you see an old village pub with the locals enjoying a drink and a natter with the landlady, treated as a friend. That sense of community is something Cornwall always seems to do so well. We visited 3 times during our holiday, and every time we were welcomed warmly. Cosy bar area with lovely open fire...what more could you ask for.

The staff, David and his team, did everything to make us comfortable and offered us delicious apricot crumble and cream despite the kitchens being closed! Once we found it (we came the long way round!) what a lovely place, what food and what a location. We booked our evening meal in advance and were shown to a comfortable table in the main pub. Delighted to see that the pub had gone to great lengths to make itself 'covid' friendly. There was a great selection of four different local ales and my wife was driving! We both had the pilchards to start (when in Rome...) which were exceedingly good. I had the faggots for main course which were worth the five-hour drive to Cornwall on their own. We had lots of lovely meals in Cornwall, but for me, if I could give the food six stars I would. After our meal, we decided to make the long walk from the pub to the beach and enjoy the breathtaking view as evening fell. Delightful evening, good beer and great food and I can fully recommend this lovely Cornish pub and location.

However, on the beach was a sign pointing to The Three Pilchards, Beach Bar....we investigated-the villagers had set up a "pub" in the village hall (on the beach - what's not to like) as they wanted a pub! We had Cornish Tribute Beer and the best Crab sandwich for miles around. Go and support these guys as they are trying to keep the fantastic community alive. We were lucky as we called in at last minute but the management took order with no quibble. as its local, independent and quite cut off you should expect to pay a little more with meals at £10-£12 each, more of course for items such as steak. But sitting almost on the beach it offers shelter from the wind or the sun while feeding you with delicious fresh crab sandwiches, a great spicy pasty and two enormous 'child's portion' fish and chips with beer and glasses of wine, all for £30. It is a character of a pub with a history, serving this small community of pilchard packers and lifeboatmen over the centuries. Really wanted to have something here as it was more than likely that my husbands ancestor visited this pub as his home town was Porthallow before he emigrated to NZ. Although it was a drizzly day we did enjoy looking around the pub and the village.

We booked a table for 8 for a family lunch. We had visited the pub before so were looking forward to it. On arrival we were just not made to feel very welcome, almost told to hurry up and order drinks and then told our table was out the back. More compact lunchtime menu with very few options outside ciabata. My daughter went to the bar to change her order 3 mins after ordering and was rudely told no way. Food was ok, setting is great with seafarer theme. Went to order coffee at the end of our lunch and was rudely told that kitchen was now closed and there was no Coffee. Surely they can boil a kettle? Not sure whether they had staff problems or were just fed up with customers after a busy summer. Go and spend your hard earned money somewhere else, as its not appreciated here.

We didnt find this pub particularly welcoming or helpful. We booked a table and were told where the table was, and went to it (werent shown to it) and waited.... The waitress came in due course to ask if we had decided what we wanted to eat but we said we hadnt seen the menu. It was only then that we were told that the menu was on the board on the wall and that we were to get our drinks from the bar... Not sure why we werent told this on arrival. There wasnt much choice of meals. However, the cod and chips were excellent as was the loin of hake. Having said all this, we may well go again, now we know the routine, and the food was good.

Very friendly family run establishment, nothing too much trouble, good range of real ales and the menu changes everyday in line with the catch. All local produce used.

Great selection on the menu and behind the bar too - was given a taster of their own cider before deciding upon that despite thinking I fancied a g&t lol - a busy pub with packed tables, we had a buggy which could've proved difficult but everyone happy to help out and move when needed - friendly atmosphere :)Must try the salted caramel ice cream

We were a hungry group of about 25 from our scuba diving club (Bury 601). We had all pre ordered as requested, I was surprised how quick the service was and all the food came out more or less the same time. I don't know how they managed it. What's more it was all hot and tasted great. Well done to the chefs and staff. The steak was particularly praised by those who had it, but there were no complaints by anyone and plenty of clean plates. I had the baked cheese and hake cassoulet and would recommend both. The beer is good too with good choice.

Had a few meals in here during our 2 week stay in the area. Good beer and good food. I can honestly say that I have never had a better battered fish and chips anywhere. We loved the food and the atmosphere. Make sure you book about 24hrs in advance as this place is very popular.

Good menu if you like sea food. Can be very busy with local divers and advisable to book to guarantee a table. Dog friendly but a little cramped with 3 dogs

Staying nearby and have visited a couple of times this week. Hubby has tried out the local bitter and approves. Had an evening meal one night and the fish stew was very flavoursome. The garlic ciabatta was over garlicked if that is a word!. Daughter had the brie as a main course with some chips to dip in and loved it. All the main courses were very good. Puddings - Brownie for other daughter, which received a thumbs up. Lemon tart for us.... not great. Serving it with lemon icecream and a lemon drizzle does not make up for the lemon tart not being sharp and sweet lemony goodness. Sad end to the meal. We would go back though, as the service was great and the locals full of chat and recommendations for places to visit. Sitting outside the front in the evening in the sun was fabulous. Recommend a visit for anyone staying locally

Stayed here when walking the south west coast path. A very comfortable and welcoming stay with sea views! A great ambience and delicious food. We had baked Camembert, roast hake with bean and chorizo cassoulet and delicious desserts. Would definitely recommend staying here and eating dinner- the lunch menu also looked great. We will definitely return.

Close to the beach but wildly overpriced for really basic fare and their “artisan gelato” is disgusting. We tried three flavours and they were all terrible, but the chocolate was so atrocious we couldn’t finish it. Ask yourself when the last time you didn’t finish an ice cream was!

On holiday for a week and we visited 3 times. First time was for a drink only, second for an evening meal and thenthirdnfir Sunday lunch. On all occasions, service was friendly, attentive (without being in your face or false) and courteous. Our evening meal was a beautiful piece of grilled haddock in a very tasty sauce with vegetables and potatoes. We also ordered a side of truffled mac n cheese. It was absolutely amazing. Sunday lunch was probably the best I've ever eaten as a pub dining experience and I've eaten a fair few in my 59 years. We opted for the 3 meat version of beef, pork and turkey. The vegetable selection was interesting and perfectly cooked. The giant yorkshire pudding was delicious but for me, the roast potatoes and gravy were the jewels in the very large crown. There was no room for pudding but on our evening visit, we did share the amaretto chocolate torte, which was fantastic 😀. For the quality and portion sizes, I would say The Pityme Inn is excellent value for money.

The staff were very friendly. The hot drinks were alright and the cakes were alright. They didn't rush us. The whole atmosphere was really nice and lovely. I didn't have to raise my voice to speak to my boyfriend who has a hearing impairment which is a hearing aid.
