£4.50 for frozen chips! Average sized portion, they wanted £14.50 for cod and chips, the place is clearly for people who have more money than sense, a bit like Darts farm itself.

Frozen chips were hard and dry. The cod was tiny and tasteless. The batter was soaked in horrible thick oil which was dripping out of the box. Bad form using frozen chips! To expensive.

Breaks my heart to write this but the Fish Shed has been my compulsory stop off for the deep fried scallops and chips whenever I’ve been passing as it’s the best I’ve ever tasted. On our recent stop over we were served by a very unenthusiastic lady but to make matters worse the chips weren’t as well cooked and crunchy as previous visits but worst of all the batter on the scallops was soggy and stuck to the box sonot a patch on all my previous portions. Please please can you get back to how everything was cooked in previous visits/years as you’ve been recommended to a lot of people.

Having few other options in the vicinity, we spent £18 at this takeaway kiosk. What did we get for this princely sum? Sadly, no seafood extravaganza, but a small piece of battered cod, a few dry chips and four cans of soda. A more accurate name for the place would be ‘Roadside Piracy’

We visit here as often as possible! It’s really excellent fish and chips, perhaps not the cheapest around, but really fresh fish and they manage to get the chips just right, they are always perfectly cooked, fluffy, crunchy and never greasy. The chips are gluten free, and they offer fresh grilled options. Definitely go here. Even as a greedy bloke, I go for the smaller fish and chips and it’s actually enough.

Wanted to grab some lunch after shopping from the farm shop next door. Rarely see monkfish on the menu of a fish and chips shop so I went for it. Perfectly grilled monkfish pieces with seasonings. £15.5 for takeaway fish and chips (and tartare sauce) perhaps sounds a bit too pricey, but this is with quality. Also thanks to the perfect weather, it was an enjoyable meal with the view of the maize maze

This review is only about the poor customer service I received . I am a regular customer. The fish and chips are fab. However..... The young girl working there today, miserable looking, mucked my order up didn't even apologise, just threw 2 quid back in my hand. Then, when I went to pick my order up, I asked for lemon, poor attitude she said there was already some in there. There clearly wernt because there never is. Her kind, friendly colleague was more than happy to help. *****note to her, don't work there if you going to be a snotty cow luv to customers, get a different job.

I was dubious to go here after the reviews. However very friendly staff, especially as it was so busy. We ordered 1 grilled lemon sloe & chips 1 monk fish & chips and 2 x kids cod and chips and 2 apple juices. It was a half hour wait, but that’s to be expected with maybe fewer staff and the business of lockdown, prove a little on the dear side but when you taste it you understand why. Unbelievably fresh and perfect chips. I’d rather pay a bit more to have this kind of quality! Beautifully cooked fish and amazing chips. The home made tar tar sauce is insane! I would highly recommend visiting this little gem. Friendly close knit staff with amazing fish and chips... would not go anywhere else!

We love it here but when we went in October the sit down area was closed because of extensive construction work being undertaken .All they had was a disappointing little take away window in the car park !. We visited Darts Farm and as running late into the evening decided to grab some Haddock and Chips. It was expensive at £10 each, but the staff were nice and the food was very good. We experienced a decent fleshy fish, crisp batter and perfectly cooked chips. If the quality was not so good and freshly cooked I would grumble about the cost. The queue was small and there was a short wait, I don't know how they cope when busy and suggest they should always have basic fish and chip on the go when busy to keep the waiting time down. We had a a good experience.

Very poor customer service. Staff made a mistake on the order and gave us the wrong food. When they realised they had made a mistake the staff were confrontational and borderline aggressive towards us, even saying that we were “not welcome to come back” because he gave us the wrong thing! The food itself was fine, if a little overpriced, but I would not return as the proprietor of this business ruined what would have been a very pleasant evening by making a mistake and blaming it on his customers.

Stopped off for a quick fish and chips to feed three hungry children. Waited for an hour before being served (yes 60mins!) the had to wait for another 15mins to wait for food. Food: Tasty beer battered cod, nice homemade tartare sauce, average chips. I get the impression the owner cares a lot about fresh fish and cooking from fresh not frozen is absolutely the way forward. However, the business feels disorganised and customer service is sadly lacking. Wait times of over an hour are unacceptable in a restaurant, let alone a take away. £35 pounds for two large and two small fish and chips seems overpriced for the final product and the wait time. No apologies or explanation were given about the extraordinary wait and customers were left hanging at the serving hatch for a long time with no communication. Having only one person serving and taking orders is hopelessly inefficient. The business seemed disorganised from the hour I had to observe. Maybe C-19 has had an effect here on staffing but looking back over the last couple of years of reviews, this theme continues. British queuing power and politeness keeps this businesses going, this wouldn’t be tolerated in other countries.

Positives - The fish was a good size and would have been perfectly cooked had what followed not occurred. The negatives - The chips were pale and portion tiny, we have always managed to share one portion of chips with two bits of fish and been quite full in every other chippy we've tried in the area (6 or 7 others over the years) but one portion, shown in the photo, was just about ok for one of us in this case, I went without. The fish was badly battered, one thick and greasy, the other coming away from the fish. Tried to order scallops but would not sell individually like other places nearby, £9 or nothing. Perhaps we'd not have felt so ripped off had we not waited 40 minutes standing in the cold, in which time people came and ordered and left before us (not including the phone orders). 2 men also waiting a long time enquired about their order, they were told they were waiting on chips, but then the order miraculously was ready. We then asked the same, we're told the same, then a minute later our order was given to us. The person serving was almost afraid to talk to people, mumbling and seeming unsure of what he should be doing, I'm not sure where the communication broke down, but 1. The three lots of people had their order before us and those guys had ordered chips, so where did those come from? 2.chips do not take 20 minutes to cook - which is how long I watched our fish under the heat lamps and was probably why it was a bit mushy. Were they digging the potatoes from the farm? I would also have expected after that wait to not then be served underdone chips. Oh and the gherkins are sliced sweet burger gherkins... Never seen the like in a chip shop.

This though was not the case, the chips were dry and well over cooked and not very tasty. The fish was nice and fresh tasting but badly let down by the horrid tasting beer batter which was also on the greasy side. Tried to make them taste better by drowning them in salt and vinegar but this failed. The curry sauce was vile and tasted like some kind of Indian curry not chip shop curry. Over all very disappointing considering they are using good quality fish they should not get it this wrong. Would not buy from them again.

Coming from a catering background, I never feel good when reviewing somewhere else but the fish and chips I had was so poor I had to make a comment. I asked what oil it was cooked in and was told rapeseed although to me it tasted like olive oil. The chips were actually quite good but the fish was absolutely saturated in fat to the point where it was dripping off it when I held up the fish to let it drain. I made a comment to the guy who served me but he just looked at me blankly. I had hoped the chef would come out to speak to me as this is what I would have done in my business had someone made such poor comments about my products. It's such a shame as I've also heard good things about the fish and chips although my experience was very poor. You can see from my photo about how oily the fish was.

No tea or coffee was available from the drinks counter as that till was closed at 5.30. So 2 bottles of soda and then off to the main tills on the other end of the shop to pay for the meal and drinks while we waited for the fish to be cooked. The chips had obviously been already cooked and reheated - they were actually tough ! The table next to ours had debris on it when we sat down - it was still there an hour later once we had eaten. There were no extras such as lemon or sauces unless you paid extra. The tartare sauce however was really good. For the high prices charged we expected waitress service and tables that were cleared and clean - noticed there was a lot of mess around which was a shame. Sitting upstairs you get great views and the place obviously has good points but there's a lot to be improved.

Very expensive for fish and chips. Curry sauce was terrible. It was a very thick consistency, certainly not a sauce . The fish was loverly. the chips OK. Eaten from a card board box with a woodern fork and a plastic knife. Extremely difficult for a no so mobile person to sit on the benches. Only two sets of salt and vinigar. You queue to order and then enter the shop to pay. Here you queue with customers buying all sorts of products with only one assistant taking payment. It took ten minutes to pay. This establishment certainly needs sorting.

Once a upon a time the Fish Shed would have got a great review from me, however after today's experience I'm afraid I'm giving it a "poor" score. We tried to order local mussels to be told they had run out. This was at 12:20! Very early during the lunch service. We ordered battered fish and chips. The very small fish was cooked "skin on". No problem for pan fried batterless fish where the skin can crisp up and add to the dish. But in batter it becomes flabby and encourages the batter to be soggy and tainted. There was no sign of any seasoning at any stage of the cooking process. Although the chips looked good they were very poor quality. They were dry and uncomfortable to eat, instantly drying the mouth and making the whole dish unpalatable. The outdoor eating area was grubby, with greasy condiments and empty vinegar bottles all over the dirty tables. One other item to note is that the waste points are actually in the eating area, encouraging flies. The really disappointing thing is that we have eaten here many times and while not perfect it's usually acceptable. Nothing stunning but ok. Would we eat here again. No. To get a "national dish" so badly wrong is a sign to me that the Fish Shed has lost something. Sorry Fish Shed but you have some work to do if you want regular customers.

This was once out go to place for fish and chips in Topsham. Not any more after a very disappointing visit. Now we prefer to wait until Tuesday night and visit the mobile La Cantina which is parked up outside the hall on Fore Street. Freshly cooked 5* fish and chips, or delicious burgers if you prefer.

Lovely fresh fish and chips with plenty of selection. Open later most nights and everything is cooked to order. Reassuringly pricey for a decent serving. Also do children's smaller portions. Nice outside seating area during the summer as well.

Always love Darts Farm fish and chips! Pretty pricey but really tasty! Wide selection of fish; they also do children's portions of cod and chips.

A lovely treat! Quirky and fun, yes it was a little wait for our food but at least we knew it was fresh and prepared there and then. Great homemade tasty clips!

My fish and chips last Friday were awful and the 40 minute wait just tipped it over the edge. We waited in the cold for 40 mintues while we watched the new girl become ever so flustered as she had very little support from the two chefs mucking around in the shed. 40 minutes we waited in the cold while we watched two people have their order mucked up and one forgotten completely. I checked ours to make sure we recieved the three cod and chips we asked for. Thankfully we did. Thankfully we didn't bother to drive off before eating - we were starving and fed up by this point - so we ate them in the car. I had to go back since boring and rather cold potatoes (they weren't even chips) don't taste great without salt and vinegar (wasn't asked or assumed) and the fish was as bland as anything. Go to your local greasy chippy and have a much more enjoyable and reasonable priced experience.

I swang by earlier to grab a large portion of chips on my way home after an eight hour shift on my feet. Once in the car, I opened the box and inside were the palest, tasteless, "kabab shop" chips I've ever had the misfortune to eat. I can genuinely buy this shockingly poor quality of chips from any cheap, nasty takeaway at a fraction of the cost. This is a wholly unnaceptable abandonment of even basic food quality standards and if they cannot be bothered to maintain the quality of something as basic as their chips, then the whole proposition becomes untenable and I for one, won't be rushing back, beyond disappointed.

This place is living on past glory. £9.35 for average fish and chips. Batter was an insipid colour and fish barely cooked. The chips were unpeeled and rather tasteless. Sorry but no where near as anticipated.

Love these fish and chips. Their homemade tartare sauce is yummy, the fish batter lovely and the chips gorgeous. You do have to wait but everything is cooked to order. The only real downside is the price, I'm not convinced that the meal is worth the price tag.

My wife and I visited at the weekend and we had been here before. She had lemon sole which she thought was quite nice. I had the Thai fish cakes and within 10 minutes of leaving the restaurant I had a terrible stomach ache which lasted a coupe of days. The fish cakes were undercooked I think as they were rather wet inside although hot and crispy on the outside. My chips were lukewarm and a disappointment. I wont be going back after this experience!

When you visit Darts Farm shopping complex it can get very busy and the main restaurant can take you a long time to get a table, so the fish shed is a great place to top up, the fish selection is wide and very fresh and the service is as quick as it can be as all the food is cooked to order.

Went here has had heard good reviews. Arrived about 13.20 for take-away cod and chips. Although it seemed busy and there were 4 staff in the shed, there was no fish cooked ready to take away. So I was told I'd have to wait ten minutes. I don't mind a wait normally it's worth it! Whilst waiting I heard all about the love life of the staff, saw them standing with food that was ready in their hands whilst they finished their story and started to think this was not such a great idea after all! I paid £18, so top dollar for my two portions of cod and chips and tartare sauce. Finally after around 15 minutes it was done. Got home and was soon disappointed when I opened the box! The cod was no bigger than a fish finger..the batter was grey looking! The chips had more black holes in them than I've seen in a sack of potatoes and were burnt - I reckon they had been cooked two or three times and although I'd had to wait the whole lot was bordering on cold! Will I go back, no chance I'd have to be desperate!

Small portions for a large price tag, which I don't mind if it's good food. But it isn't.The chips were very nice, not greasy, good taste but the fish; oh the fish; greasy and bland. I had cod in the beer batter and it was just tasteless. The owner/cook clearly doesn't taste what he fries. There was no seasoning on the fish or the batter, it was like eating slime. The fish hadn't drained and the box my meal was in must have had 4/5 tablespoons of oil/grease in....not pleasant. Despite eating from the box, we weren't offered forks or napkins. The only reason I didn't give it 1 star is because the chips were good and the server was friendly.

We visited early evening with one person ordering before us. Cod and chips are £8.50 each and you have the option of having the fish in a beer batter or grilled. Both my wife and I ordered the battered fish. After about 15 minutes they were ready with both served in boxes. The chips were actually ok to good. Well cooked with a decent colour. The cod in batter was tasteless. My fish wasn't too greasy but unfortunately as my wife moved her box, oil came out of the corner and blobbed on her trousers. Not too happy and her fish didn't seem to have been allowed to sit for the oil to drip away. Also my cod had a slightly strange after taste as if it was on the turn. not impressed and won't be back.

Popped on the offchance after a busy service at the Cathedral for the enthronement of the new Bishop of Exeter (CofE). We really wanted a decent fish and chip takaway, and though this rockfish really just looks set up as a seafood restuarant they were happy to oblige with a Meal.to go. Hake and Hadddock as the mains today, and fresh steaming chips with lashings of salt and vinegar. The home-made tartar sauce is amazing as was the anchovy mayo; and I never say no to mushy peas, although fine beans or garden peas were also on offer. I really felt welcomed even thought the restaurant was heaving and booked full; they still had time for a drop-in takaway customer. Hats of to you all and thanks.
