Fish and Chips on Alphington Road in Exeter

Ordered through judt eat and was delivered a totally wrong order for wrong person. Just eat say need to leave bad review fof restaurant and just eat refuse to refund as say restaurant fault. My receipt was given to someone else with my order. This receipt had my phone number and name on it. I spent £22 and received none of my order. 252480195

Got a meal for the family tonight and it was the worse meal ever soggy fish undercooked batter and horrible chips maybe it was an off day but still no excuse

Despite being understaffed due to unforseen circumstances food was quick and of good quality staff member was very friendly and even given a few extras in the order due to a slight increase in wait time

Such friendly lady always serving the manager I think, great portions too. Always explains if somethings different to normal so you know before you order! Great sense of humour and a proper chippy atmosphere. Only one I go to in Exeter!

This is now the third time in a month that this restaurant has sent incorrect and missing items when you order through Just Eat the restaurant never answer the phone and after the first complaint Just Eat refuse to refund so you end up paying for stuff you don't get shame as this restaurant was very good but has gone so far downhill since Xmas

Superb haddock and chips! this place is under new management and you can tell. the haddock was so huge it could barely fit in the box! The batter was light and crispy and the fish was cooked to perfection! see you next week! 😊

I have eaten from here multiple times before and have previously always been very pleased with the food. Today was different. My normal order is battered halloumi and chips and my partner has fish and chips. Today, we pre-ordered battered halloumi, haddock and chips as usual and went to collect. When we got home, we realised I had been given breaded mozzarella sticks instead of halloumi. We drove back to the shop to ask for the correct item. The staff in the shop insisted that the mozzarella sticks were their "new version" of halloumi which is smaller because they were losing money on the original size. The woman in the shop assured me it was definitely halloumi as she had cooked it herself. The item I had was 100% mozzarella (it was stretchy in texture and tasted exactly like mozzarella and nothing like halloumi). My partner checked too and agreed. It was also breaded instead of battered. See photo. I would have understood if the staff in the shop had been honest and said they had run out of halloumi, or made a mistake, or admitted to whatever the reason for the wrong food was, but the blatant dishonesty was very disappointing. Drove back home again and ate our now lukewarm meal. Giving two stars because we enjoyed the chips and my partner said his haddock was nice. Maybe avoid this place if you don't like being lied to about what food you are being given, or have any food allergies.

Placed an order on JustEat, my delivery time was pushed back time and again until my order was cancelled!! AVOID!!!

I tried to give this place another chance after several bad experiences but yet again, the woman behind the counter has an attitude like no other! Always negative, always complaining, giving excuses when she’s in the wrong and pulling awful facial expressions and noises to make out she’s so stressed, she is just rude when dealing with customers. Ever since she has started it’s been the downfall of that place, use to be my local but it’s been ruined now. The past two occasions I’ve walked out after waiting 10 minutes of watching this woman behave in this unprofessional way with disgust. I’m not the only who thinks this!

Order placed through just eat Saturday night 28th October. Didn't turn up and said it was delivered . No one at just eat to speak to Have left you 2 voicemails no one has got back to us ! No way of getting hold of yourself or just eat and we are still £25.00 down !!

Never too greasy this place does excellent fish and chips. I never that that feeling that it's too much grease for me - the quality is excellent. Since discovering it we visit regularly.

Having been told about this chippy from a local in Exeter that I stopped. I walked the 13 mins tot he shop. The service was excellant and the portion very decent. Service with a smile. Wrapped up well fro my walk back to the hotel. Next time im in Exeter definately will return. Niece to find a tradiitonal Fish and Ship shop. The fish was really meaty and was delicious.

Second time of coming here in a couple of months, first time the fish batter was all soggy and sloppy, completely undercooked, second time today, i ordered cod again, chips, fosh cake and battered mars bars, again the batter on the fish was disgusting, making me question if the fish was even cooked, same woth the battered mars bars, chips were barely cooked, no crisp at all, luckily i have an aor fryer and whacked it all in there to sort it out! Completely destroying the point of have fast food and paying for the service and their equiptment! £16 completely wasted, the only thing that was edible was the fish cake! So disappointed, this used to be a lovely establishment with amazing food. A customer who had been served prior to us came back from somewhere, the lady behind the till was putting vinegar on, he looked at her as she was dousing it all in vinegar and said she said know its a lot but its all soggy anyway! What even is that comment!

Very good fish & chip shop with nice easy parking right outside. Decent bit of fish and crispy fluffy chips just how we like them.

Great quality food, never had a bad meal and the fish is always perfect, and generous portions. The website is really easy to order from and super convenient.

We order via deliveroo this evening the order turned up in good time, but had a missing item, the shop blamed deliveroo and said they couldn't refund and we would have to come and get the missing item. The 1st lady we spoke to was incredibly rude and put the phone down on us. The 2nd lady was better but could not offer any solution but to contact deliveroo for a refund or to come and pick up the missing item, which does defeat the object of having it delivered. To make matters worse the veg spring roll which was delivered had meat in it. Please be aware of what you are ordering and God help you if anything happens to be wrong.

Ordered online for a group of 4 of us as our local was closed, and having been here before knew the food was decent. Partner submitted the order online & went to collect. Spent £30 on a variety of meals. On collection, he took the food to the car and checked it, saw one bag of chips was missing. He went inside and asked about the missing bag, and the young girl at the till accused him of taking one bag of chips out in the car and attempting to fraudulently claim another. My partner then offered the staff member to come to the car to see for herself, which was declined. Another member of staff then set things straight issuing another bag of £3 chips without charging again. Got home & a curry sauce was missing as well :-( Overall 5* food with 0* service. And accusing customers of lying without any evidence is offensive and unprofessional.

The worst fish and chips I've ever had in exeter!! Fish was cooked fresh but was well over cooked ,batter was dark and hard fish was dry .chips were also hard and chewy .not at all enjoyable. Fryer was unkempt with great long hair hanging down from his cap,unhygienic.. girl serving was great and apologised for the 20+ minutes wait.l won't be going back!!!

Just passing and picked up sausage and chips, staff very friendly and food delicious!

I have been in twice within the last week, on my first experience they were only serving chips and one member of staff was rude to customers, tonight I went in again, a customer asked for there number so they could pre order and was rudely told “just go online”, the same member of staff was then smoking out the back, came back in and instantly started serving food without washing there hands, also my chips were undercooked. The only reason I have given 2 stars is because the first time I went in the young lady serving with dark hair was very polite, respectful and apologetic that they were only serving chips. YOU COULD ALL LEARN FROM HER.

Popped in on a Friday afternoon at 12:15 and was very impressed. Staff were really lovely, the food was well priced and was cooked to order in good time. Chips were great, burger was tasty and the fish cakes were moist and not dry like other places. Will return and do recommend

When ordering was told that their card machine wasn't working. Returned with money and offered a scottish £10 note. They refused to accept it and laughed that they expected a response of being 'legal tender'. Totally unacceptable bordering racist. Why is this permissable is this day. Food OK but small portions for cost.

Perfectly cooked cod and batter not too greasy. Chips excellent too. It was all freshly cooked while I waited. Staff very friendly and helpful. I’d definitely stop here again and will recommend to friends.

Found this fish and chip shop by chance the day after Boxing Day - starving hungry and trawling Plymouth in the car. Only ordered small portions as you often have to chuck the whole lot away in a chip shop but this was exceptional fish and chips - fresh fish , crispy batter and lovely crunchy chips with no nasty aftertaste of old fat. Couldn’t recommend highly enough, Plus very lovely helpful staff. Thank you for saving the day!

The service at this chippy is shocking. You order online for a certain time and don't leave until 15-20 minutes after this time. Staff are quite rude as well. Saving grace is the food is really decent.

Waited outside for shop to open, first in placed order for food, then had several customers come in and order and leave with food, the food is good but the lad serving is dead slow and stop, finally got food after 30 mins wait.

Always order online for collection. Despite them being busy my order is made fresh for when I arrive.

If you want very good fish and chips this is the one, placed in a cardboard type food box and the in a paper bag ( no soggy chips), fish cooked to perfection in a nice light batter chips nice light golden colour proper chippy chips ,good well presented friendly staff. Will definitely visit again when in area and if open at the time

Just had some lovely cod and chips , surprise because I am often let down with some fish and chip shops , either with batter or type of potatoes used. In this case it was really good on both counts.Nice crispy batter good flakey cod and soft chips.

This place has gone right down hill I stopped here last night to get some tea on my way home from work, I ordered a burger and a battered sausage, there was 1 lady in front of me who had already ordered but very frustrated as she had been waiting along time, I finally got served myself no hello nothing it was like everything the staff members had to do was a huge effort, after being served my burger was ready within minutes and chucked onto the hot server I opened the box to find what looked like a rustler burger which had been microwaved and a slice of cheese slapped in the middle there was no sauces or salad added to it. I called to the chap behind the counter and said I wanted a refund as the burger was never worth over £4 he kept muttering to himself as he was annoyed I asked for a refund which once again was a effort to process. I took the battered sausage hoping it was going to be ok it was awful the amount of grease dripping off it was hurrendous, I couldn't be bothered to go back to the shop and complain think this place needs a serious shake up such a shame won't be returning again.

I am hugly dissapointed!Fish and Chips used to be part of the great British culture.Not this one. As a support worker looking after people with severe disabilities I preordered food for them to follow Friday Fish and Chips tradition and simply cheer up my residents. I discovered that one portion is missing, so I back to the shop to explain the situation in the hope that I am dealing with genuine people..Mistake, staff including the owner were abrupt and very unefriendly.Just to say that you are not cheating on me you are cheating on disabled people! Shame on you! I will never back there in my eyes enyone cheating on disabled people is moral zero! Stay away.Dana

The fish and chips were good, but they still have a glitch in the the online ordering for my particular bank card.

Having just ordered a regular cod, medium chips, regular curry sauce and a small battered sausage I was disgusted at the portion size. I would compare it to a kids meal from the chip shop I usually buy from and at £9+ I was expecting a bit more for my money in all honesty. Flavourless fish and a soggy battered sausage.

I have always been happy with the food but I was seriously let down with delivery on more than one occasion so I stopped using takeaways. However when I heard that Alphington Road Fish & Chips had started doing their own delivery I decided to try again - and I am glad I did. I have had two deliveries to date. The first arrived ten minutes early, no problem with that. The second delivery was two minutes late, and I received an apology from the gentleman bringing the food. Keep this up and I will be ordering on a regular basis.

Placed order online and given time for collection in reasonable time. When I arrived confirmed my order and as it was cooked freshly it was ready within a few minutes. Very efficient polite service. Fish and chips good sized portions and tasty. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Staff who are prepared to serve you at closing time & without any complaints, welcoming your business, are to be highly commended. The fish & chips I've had there several times is hot, portions are good to generous, the fish is superb, the standard of the cooking & service is excellent & staff are so friendly. Just finished the nicest fish and chips I’ve had in ages. Got home and my wife said we should have fish and chips as not had them in months. Remembering this place as I often drive past I googled them, 2 mins later because of a really slick website I’d ordered and selected collection time. Arrived to collect the order, very friendly pleasant staff, all COVID compliant etc. I was in the shop less than a min, came home and enjoyed the food. Fresh tasting, reasonably priced. Cannot fault. Will be ordering again but won’t leave it as long this time. Top marks all round.

Disappointed again each time I ask for cod and chips I get charged different prices. Asked for small cod and chips tonight and their must have been about 10 chips in the box which were cold. Won’t let me upload a picture which is annoying but I think now I’ll be going to another fish and chip shop.

Excellent food, very friendly staff and very quick service (even during these slower periods due to Covid). I couldn't recccomend this Chippy enough. I used to live local but about 2 months ago ended up relocating 15 minutes down the road, however I still make the trip every week! I refuse to go anywhere else

I've had many fish and chips from many places but this place, hands down wipes the floor with them. Staff are really friendly even through these difficult times. I'll be back tomorrow for my large fish and chips with mushy peas, maybe even get curry sauce and push the boat out.

Not so good this time for food! The Mr had a chicken burger, well, piece of overcooked chicken and stuck in a bread roll bap and £4.49!!!! Plain. Nothing else. Not even butter. For that price we expected sauce, salad garnish, ridiculous. I had fish n chips and little en had a kids meal. Won’t be in a rush to go back , and as ordered through just eat the burger was refunded. So it should be aswell. Avoid the burgers

Awful experience. Ordered cod, chips and mushy peas. When waiting for the food the employee in the kitchen was shouting and screaming which was quite shocking as a customer. Lady at the counter looked embarrassed. Didn't get the mushy peas that I'd paid for and chips tasted burnt. Won't be returning.

Do not hope for the battered chips, was told they were off menu as 30 mins before closing time. Would not have gone out of my way to go here if I'd have known. Poster still up in window on arrival. Chef shouting and screaming behind the counter. Wholely disappointing both in cooking and service.

Pre-ordered so could just pop in and pick up. When i got there they told me they just had to cook it. Waited 15 minutes for 2 large chips and 3 large sausages. Portions were small. Cost over a tenner for some very low quality food. Will not be returning.

Had lovely fish n chips last week

One of the best chippys we have found since moving to Exeter

Ordered ahead of time for a 1700hrs pick up. Clearly a popular place as got busy quickly. Sadly there was on the job training (which I know needs to be done) but this meant I was only just getting my food handed to me after a wait of almost 20mins. The Just Eat type couriers were an issue upon exiting (not the shops fault and the lady behind the counter advised them a couple times to get back) as were all congrating right outside the door, couple with no masks on even when trying to enter. Anyway, food itself was very, very nice. Best curry sauce I've had probably ever from a chippy! Will use again, hopefully they won't have the staff issue, probably should train when not so busy next time, sort out the speed of service and will easily be a 4 star, sort out the couriers outside the door and would be a 5.

I had a lovely fish and chips here, both were beautifully cooked. My partner had hallumi and chips, which again was really nice. Very happy with the quality and size, a proper English chippy.
