The Fish and Chippy in Merton

Nearly killed my 13year.old..... Child has a fish allergy, I've previously highlighted allergies to them and suggested that fish should be fried separately to other food products as fish is a common allergy and that separate utensils and boards should be used. If I buy from them, I send the child to KFC. However, allergies are extremely dangerous, in some cases, causing death! Restaurants and take away establishment's should be putting safeguards in place to protect the public and consumers! I will also highlight that other fish and chip shops put these safeguards in place and use seperate oil when cooking fish, as we often now get that meal from the chip shop on Martin way, who take extra care around allergies! Anyway, long story short. My eldest son, an adult, came into the house with food, not fish, something and chips. He had some chips left over which all the children enjoyed. Within minutes my child couldn't breath, Airways started to swell and close up! We administered anti histamine, which didn't work. We stab child in the leg with adrenaline, epi pen, still didn't work, we jumped in the car to rush child to hospital, whilst administering a second dose of adrenaline. Second dose started to ease the breathing, we then had to remain in hospital to be monitored for six hours and take steroids to stabilise condition. Massive thumbs down for the fish and chippy, consumers should be able to eat non fish products safely. My child could have died!!!!!! Please, please, please take allergies seriously and use seperate oil and utensils when cooking fish products to protect your customers 🙏

Great food, good prices with amazing helpful, kind and hard working staff. Always seems very busy but the service is quick and efficient. I have allergies and the staff were more than willing to help and take this into consideration when I ordered my food. Would definitely recommend this as a great chippy

I had fish and chips last night. Staff was very friendly and the food was fresh and very well cooked. It was about a 10 minute wait but was definitely worth it. I would highly recommend :)

First and last time using this chippy .. curry sauce is definitely not a curry sauce the chips are flavourless and that was with salt and vinegar sausage in batter was greasy as all hell the pie was like mush and the savaloy nearly broke my boys tooth as it was hard and crunchy never had one like it before never will I use this chippy again absolutely disgusting

i have been using this fish and chip shop for a number of years and did not have a bad word for them. When it got taken over by the new owners i tried it but was not the same but thought they are new give them time. I have just had some fish and chips from them and sadly to say it has gone down hill even more, very greasy, chips were just off cuts of potatoes and not very nice and the fish had no flavour and was poor quality. on looking at the menue seemed vary sparce and overpriced for the size of portion. I do not normally leave a review but on this occasion i have no choice also i will have to look for an alternative chip shop.

We had recently discovered this fish and chippy I found this place about a year ago a nice old couple who had been there many years the fish and chips were very very tasty but I can’t remember when but around less than 6 months ago it has been taken over We have been here twice since new owners took over The place has been renovated but sorry to say the quality of the food has gone down hill the chips we’re small and greasy the fish was way to crispy the owners did say they had training from the old couple but they have not stuck to the original oils way of cooking it’s Sad because if they had stuck to the original recipe they would succeed the table has been removed the atmosphere is not the same my wife and son were also not impressed food had to be taken home we drive from another part of london to come here To say we won’t back again in any rush is a understatement sorry but the new owners really have lost the taste and experience I’m surprised at the good reviews because we are very honest with our reviews the food is just no where as good as it used to be the fluffy yummy chis no longer exist the mushy peas where tatse less and we paid £35.00 for nothing. We were very disappointed and now are hunt for the best fish and chips has to continue any recommendations. Sorry to be writing this poor review but we must be honest !!! The staff are professional and polite !!!

My first order following the closure of a fish & chip shop I'd frequented for 33 years. The cod was perfect: generous portion, light batter, served with a lemon slice and very fresh. The chips were solid, cooked in fresh oil and of a perfect consistency. A 9.5/10 . Friendly service and a good choice on the menu. I will revisit soon!

Sadly under new management. Previous owners were fantastic. Not a place to go anymore, especially when they don’t take credit card on a Friday - WTAF!!

Very bad takeaway packing. Impossible to carry, hard to take the food out of packing without scattering every bit around. Chips are decent, the cod is very good. But pricey.

Must be under new management not very nice tinned mushy peas and dry chips rushed service asked twice for plenty of viniger on chips percificly to get none at all

Last review I did was 5 years ago, so time to refresh under new managment. Meal tonight portions were a good size and Food was excellent. Cooked to perfection. Updating the walls etc too and looking good.

Always great service and great food. Lovely local chippy. Been going here for 15+ years, the new owners (as of Aug) are just as friendly and reassured me that they are changing nothing about the food they provide. I've already had fish & chips twice and both times lovely.

We came from Crawley to visit our family and dropped in to buy fish and chips. Absolutely lovely. Fish was perfect. All very generous portions. We were struck by the 5 staff all smiling at us as we left. We look forward to coming again 😊. Highly recommended.

Lovely food ,reasonably priced.

The best fish and chips in the area. Lovely seasoned batter that's not too thick, cooked perfectly and not oily at all. Chips are great too, not a soggy one in sight. They also do pies, burgers and fried chicken but we've not tried them to comment. Everything fresh. Family run, very friendly and welcoming. They have a couple of tables for dining in. Prices reasonable.

gone down hill very expensive for the portion sizes also had a pukka pie before and the lid of the pie was like breaking through concrete said to the man are they microwaved he said not yours yesterday was the last chance never again problem is prices have gone up but the quality has gone down never again chips were disgusting

When they say fish and chips this is what I call the best fish and chips I have ever had we just stopped off by chance and I have never been here before so to be surprised with the very best fish and chips ever was a big surprise chips where Chrispy on the outside and fluffy and cooked on the inside and fish was yummy no skin no bones yummy crispy batter originally I was only buying chips but after seeing the fish I had to buy one to my delight.

Love the fish. Bit tight with the large chips compared to round the corner. £3 a little bit on the expensive side.

Excellent, best fish and chip shop I've been to in the U.K., very clean, friendly staff. The wooden decor was very fitting. I had a large haddock and chips and I loved it, (I think it was £7-£8 and it was very big so good value for money) I will definitely return (probably getting a medium next time 😉). Overall great place and food, highly recommend as a fish and chips shop this good are hard to come by.

I have been a regular customer for the best part of 40 years & the food is excellent but this evening after queuing for quite a while outside I gave up because all the moped delivery men were arriving & just going straight in to collect their orders.I totally appreciate the need to social distance but what I don’t appreciate is that the customers who have been loyal for years are now being overlooked & it wasn’t just me there was a couple of people in front of me who also walked away because of the situation. I went to another local shop and was served really quickly & the food was excellent

First used nearly twenty years ago when we moved into the area. We regularly try out other chippies but always return to this one as the best we have found. Never any smell of stale oil. Always clean. Often have to wait whist your fish is cooked to order. Family run and they remember their regulars and make you feel welcome.

It was my first I went in there yesterday. Best fish and chips I had in long time and you you get slice a lemon with your fish and chips(you hardly get anywhere in London including highly priced places). Highly recommended.

Always good quality . Fish cooked to order but fresh battered and fried is preferred to holding fish on hot tray . Family run business 20+ years. Also run the cafe next door which is usually packed weekends which indicates popularity .

We have been going here for over 30 years. In fact since they opened 31 years ago. This is despite having a nearer chip shop to us. The chips are always excellent and while I don't eat buttered fish my friends and family do and have always said how good it is. I enjoy the chicken which is always nicely cooked and has a lovely taste. Certainly recommend it if you live in the area.
