Food is rank. Some highlights from our meal - calamari, rubbery, tasteless, greasy and too much batter - chicken burger. Probably the worst chicken i ever had. Gristle, fat, weird texture, I feel ill thinking about it - fish and chips. Average but very greasy - beef Korean salad. Were those burnt bits of off cut beef? Makes pepperami look like fine dining Nothing was cooked from fresh. Even the chips were obviously frozen and dried out Quite a nice pub to have a drink in, but save yourself the money and eat in the chicken shop opposite, you will get higher quality food

A great pub if you like your conversation to be utterly inaudible due to staff blasting ‘Bleeding Love’ by 2000s warbler Leona Lewis at maximum volume, even in the garden, at 3pm on a Wednesday. Drinks above average price and you will wait an above average time for them, especially when they turn the bar into potions class at two for one cocktails time. Food not bad though.

Horrific service. Ignored while at bar and had other customers serviced who clearly came to the bar after me despite me waiting. This happened on a Wednesday night. Can’t imagine the terrible service you’d get on a Friday or Saturday night. Avoid at all costs. It’s a shame I never got a chance to try the beer as they had a decent selection on offer.

This place is fantastic. The staff are great and very friendly, some of the customers can be a bit over the top. The poster below being one of them. She actually started shouting at me when I told her to stop having a go at the bar staff. I will assure you I am in no way connected to the pub and have been coming here for the last 7 years and can count on one hand how many idiots have been in there at the same time I have. The food is amazing and it’s a great ambience and yes they do have a no children after 7pm, it’s widely advertised in the pub. If you want to take your children somewhere after 7pm take them somewhere else, the adults that do go there after 7pm appreciate that there aren’t children there (and so do the dogs!)

Unfortunately this pub has become the least family friendly pub in Colliers Wood and Tooting. Yesterday we had booked some tables outside for a group of parents and children for the last day of school as a lot of our kids were finishing primary school, to have a meal and a few drinks around 5pm. Having gone to this pub off and on for 10 years and loved it due to the park beside, we had our first very bad experience here and unfortunately will not be back. We were met with a very abrasive manager who from the outset made us feel we were not welcome. Our children were not running around the pub, they sat at the tables or played in the park. It was evident from the moment we walked in that she did not want us to be there. We ordered food for all the children and drinks and were enjoying a parent catch up but every time anyone went to the bar they were met with a stony faced manager who said we needed to leave, in spite of the fact that we waited for our children’s food for quite some time and up to their very early 7pm cut off for kids. I tried to speak to the manager but she was very rude, cold and blunt, absolutely the opposite to any experience we have ever had at this pub. I am not sure how a pub expects working parents who would like to go for a meal to be there and out with their kids at 7pm! It was clear from this and the managers really abrasive attitude that families are not welcome, so good luck to the adult and dog friendly pub but we will not be back after this! We went to the Tooting tavern and had a very welcoming experience with our children. This is so disappointing and the end of an era with a much loved pub but we get it if they don’t want kids there it’s fine but they need some better customer service in the very least!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Charles Holden pub, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere! However, what truly sets the Charles Holden apart is the exceptional service provided by the staff. Carrie, Kate, and Lilly were absolutely amazing. Their attention to detail, genuine friendliness, and eagerness to ensure every customer has a great experience is truly commendable. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, and their recommendations were spot on. Carrie’s warm welcome and Kate’s impeccable service, combined with Lilly’s delightful enthusiasm, made our visit unforgettable. It’s rare to find such dedicated and passionate staff, and they truly are a credit to the Charles Holden. I highly recommend visiting the Charles Holden if you’re in the area. Whether you’re looking for a place to unwind after a long day or to celebrate a special occasion, this pub is the perfect spot. I will definitely be returning soon!

We came here for lunch on a Bank Holiday weekend, randomly picking it from Google maps as we were in the area. The 5 stars speak for themselves - the staff were attentive, the food was excellent and the atmosphere very cosy and welcoming. The burgers in particular were nicely done with freshly-made coleslaw and cooked just on the right side of medium rare. It did start to get busier later in the day, but I'm sure if you book you won't be disappointed. The place has some good board games, too.

Meant to visit this place for ages since I've passed it cycling to work couple hundred times few years back. And then the day has come: we had occasion with my buddy to take pictures of just released statue based on 2000AD character. What we didn't think of was the fact it was Mother's Day and everything was busy but we were given small table next to the entrance and Steve has managed to get few great pictures of Alpha. Great looking pub, kinda traditional but with more space and staff would welcome you at the door. Even staff got interested and governor was fan of 2000AD in his younger age. Good - and fast - pour of Guinness, polite service, would visit again, just in less busy times.

I will not be going back… Me and my boyfriend are regular customers, we used to love going to this pub until last Thursday night, we went for a couple drinks around 5pm and were rudely told by I believe a Polish woman called Anna that we must leave around 9pm. When my boyfriend asked her why she is asking us to leave she was very hesitant about what to answer. We were absolutely not drunk as we only had about 4 drinks each and a meal each. We were sitting in a corner and not disturbing anyone. We were very surprised as there were other customers which also came at 5pm and they were not asked to leave. I am extremely disappointed with this service. I would not recommend anyone to go there and I will definitely not be going back.

Great local pub! The Holden is a great local friendly pub which serves good food. The bar staff and Patrick the manager are always friendly and helpful. The food is very tasty, including their fish & chips and meaty sausage rolls which are made on the premises and have a warm spicy bite from the Nduja sausage meat. The hot chocolate and Christmas mulled wine are good too! The pub has a new name- The Holden (previously The Charles Holden) and has just undergone a refurb, which has given it a warm, welcoming, calm, cosy and rustic feel in sharp contrast to the busy urban life of Colliers Wood outside! We will be back for a drink and more sausage rolls soon! Suggested area for improvement: Excellent beer and wine menu, but we miss not being able to have a Bacardi rum with our coke. Would be great if you could bring it back. Well done on your fabulous refurb. Keep up the good work guys! Best wishes Billy & Trish XX

Went past this place many a time en route from tube station to Premier inn. I visited on pie and a pint night, which came in at £15.50 excellent value but without sounding rude about the establishment I wasn't expecting much. I was allowed a glass of wine in place of the pint of lager/beer. The food took 25mins to arrive indicating it was freshly cooked and not just microwaved. The Beef and Guiness pie was excellent, a small slice but deeply filled. The meat was tender and had a rich taste, the pastry was really nice. accompanied by mash, greens and gravy, I cleared the plate. Desserts sounded tempting but I declined one. Motto is never judge a book by its cover. Staff were friendly and welcoming and genuinely appreciated me thanking them for the lovely food. I shall return on my next London trip.

Wonderful staff ( we met two - an Irish woman and a English woman) whose attention to detail and helpfulness to two passing travellers was second to none and quite frankly better than you would get in Ireland. Warm and friendly atmosphere that is designed tastefully inside and outside with the customers relaxation to the foremost in their design. Get there - ask for a Pims and watch the effort made to make your drink a special one!! Irish lady (possibly manager) was very rude and aggressive towards me and my family that were dining in. We order two plates of ale battered Fish and chips which was delicious along with a pint of Guinness, Johnny Walker and Old Mout. The male bartender was friendly and accommodating . Such a shame for the poor service from the female bartneder, as the Irish lady was like an aggressive pit-bull that refused to let us eat our meal in peace and focus on us the entire time approaching us on two occasions. She even threatened us by warning she will ask us to leave. We were not rowdy or disturbing anyone on the premises yet she decided to focus on me and my family that were visiting London. I would say that this was borderline racism and it’s such a shame as me and my friends are regulars at this pub, I just won’t be returning again.
